I searched around for a fix, but nothing I have tried so far has worked.
I am running CM A3, FD19 Modem, and the FD19 kernel. The ROM runs like a dream; much better than I was expecting. There are, however, a couple of major issues I am having.
The dialer codes are screwed (such as *#*#8778#*#* and *#*#INFO#*#*), stopping me from doing any kind of service programming on my SPH-D710 (I flashed the phone from Sprint to MetroPCS.) That being said, I cannot get mobile data because I cannot edit any of the settings on the phone, including my APN (supposedly due to a mismatch with build.prop? That's what I dug up, at least.)
I would love to be able to continue using CM9, but I cannot be without mobile data. Any ideas?
I would have posted in the Dev section, but I am under my 10 posts.
Much thanks in advance!
So I flashed my nandroid backup...
I wiped the cache and performed a reset. I restored my nandroid backup of my previous setup using AnaKonda ROM v.1 using the FC24 kernel and the FC22 Modem. I am having the same exact issue as with CM9. When use ##3282# and go to edit any of the settings, I get a modem error. I am totally stumped. Please help!
I thought you couldn't edit modem settings from CM ROMs. You have to use Touchwiz-based ROMs.
I thought your changes would have to be made through software and not directly on the phone, QPST I believe. Also your question is in the right place since you would of gotten lit up if you put this in development. Have you tried using the software recommended in so many convert to MetroPCS threads?
edit: Just saw that you do have to do those codes on one tutorial but I know I seen other tutorials that were more software driven... Hope you get it done Good luck
Mobile data is back!

In order to use QPST or CDMA tools, the phone has to have UART and USB set to Modem, which when I try to change these settings from PDA it doesn't stick.

I honestly wouldn't know one way or the other. I can VIEW those settings as if I was on a TW ROM so long as I don't need to enter my MSL. I have the correct MSL, the sofware just won't progress any further.
Mobile data is now working! I used Calkins Format all, wiped the cache, dalvik cache, and /Data. I then restored my nandroid backup, wiped the cache and dalvik-cache again, followed by flashing the FD19 AOSP Kernel.
After a good power cycle, it work, and the data speeds are reporting twice as fast as they were before from speedtest.net.
I would like to be able to set my phone back to modem, but I won't be greedy. Thanks for the help!
Hi guys.
So. Yesterday i backed up everything and downloaded a few ROMs to try them out. Usually i don't experience any problem when flashing, atleast not anything i can google or read my way out of. This time however i am having problems troubleshooting where i went wrong. Well i have a pretty good idea, but my problem is rather how i get it working again.
The first thing i flashed was the EmotionMIUI Note II V2.5 MIUI ROM with the Aroma installer. After a successful flash my first option was to choose between two different modems. i tried googling the different file names really quick without luck, so i thought that if nothing else, i could just flash again choose differently if it didn't work. i set up the ROM, take a look around and decide to keep flashing as i was anxious to see how awesome CM was on my Note 2. After CM10 and at some point while trying out Urban HD ROM as i would like to keep some Stock functions, i need to make a call. Up until this point i have not noticed if the GSM network has been down since i have been on WIFI this whole time.
So where the problem first started out is hard to pinpoint, although my guess would be all the way back when i first flashed the MIUI ROM and was asked to choose between 2 Modems.
Question is how do i get it back?
At this point i have tried to restore to my Nandroid backup from before i flashed anything but that really did nothing. i am guessing that i need to flash the right radio/modem/baseband for my region. (Nordic / Scandinavia) But i am having a hard time figuring out what to do. i am messing around with Odin and the official stock ROM from sammobile at the moment. But i was hoping that someone here knew of a better way?
Thanks

I will try that out thankd
Well I ended up using Mobile Odin to flash the md5 firmware file from my region. That brought back the cellular network.
I recently unlocked and rooted my LGOG to the Dirty Unicorns 4.2.2 aokp ROM. Since installing the ROM I've been having on and off data problems, as in sometimes my data works but for days at times it doesn't (in the same areas as when it previously worked). My WiFi is working fine but this data problem is irritating especially since I'm out of contact when I leave WiFi range.
I searched the Dirty Unicorns 4.2.2 thread for possible solutions but no one else has reported this problem. I also have searched this Q&a thread and saw people suggesting to update the PRL but I am unable to find how to do that with this new ROM (I knew how to do it on the Stock UI).
So any help would be greatly appreciated. I love everything else about this ROM except for the data problem so I would prefer to keep it for daily use.

have you tried to swap out your apns.xml
http://d-h.st/Xin
try this one ... download extract use a rootfile browser replace the apns.xlm in system/etc giving it the same permissions as the other on rename the old to apns.xml.bak just in case the outcome is worse... reboot into recovery wipe cache and fix permissions... let me know how that goes for you...also can try restoring efs .... and can try going back to a stock based rom update prl and profile the reflash and check again
Thanks for the advice Spleef but unfortunately the apns.xml file did not work, so I guess the next step would be restoring efs. How would I go about doing that?

Tried Lifeless which turned out to be a horrible choice because the phone now randomly reboots. Upon flashing the ROM, it wiped my SD card and in the process deleted TWRP from my device. One solution I have found is to flash another ROM (I'm going to go with Vectus) but without FreeGee I cannot access recovery to flash the new ROM. I cannot keep my device from rebooting long enough to access the Play Store and combined with the fact that I need to sign in the Play Store to enable my Google account on my device (therefore eliminating the option of installing any programs online), I am unable to access FreeGee.
I originally started this process to just fix my data (by installing a Stock ROM to update my PRL) but using everything I have done has exacerbated or created more problems. If there are any solutions or suggestions from any of the more experienced users I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.

Just to reenforce what sleef said. LGNPST with the ZVB.bin. That will definitely fix your phone. Another option is use teeny bin. Then in recovery, flash the stock odexed ROM by TheShadow1. It might not cute your problem, but it's a shorter way that might work.

Thank you everyone for your help (including you, spleef lol) I used LGNPST and got my phone back to stock then re-rooted and unlocked it. I'm going to try Dirty Unicorns again with the updated PRL and hopefully that fixes the original data problem. I just can't find the GAPPS 4.2.2 file now for Dirty Unicorns, when following the link on the OP the file is no longer available.
Nonetheless this was a great learning experience and thank you again!
let me know how that goes. as im also having data issue. im in the city all day and my reception/data would go from 4 bar to nothing in a matter of minutes lol. I would have to off/on data to get back my bars and data which is odd

Hi all,
I've recently rooted my phone as per mrRobinson's thread and used TWRP to flash Liquidsmooth 2.9 my phone. It worked beautifully for a night and then a day later, while I was receiving/typing a text, the phone went into ~2 cycles of reboot loop. Later during the day, while I was reading on the browser I would get random reboots after the phone seemingly freezes.
I tried reflashing the ROM after wiping everything (except for the internal storage) a few times.
Has anyone had this problem or experienced a similar situation? I tried searching a bit and reading the Liquidsmooth 2.9 thread but nothing about random reboots seems to occur... yet.
Thanks guys.
Experiencing reboots as well, after upgrading from 2.8 to 2.9. Primarily only happens when plugging in my phone to charge. This wasn't happening when I was on 2.8.

Unfortunately when I was posting this thread I was (and still am) under the 10 post limit, lol. I've decided to just stick to CM10 for now. I might try to reflash 2.9 again. If that doesn't work, I might try different settings for the CPU (eg. on demand? mine was set to interactive). Additionally, I think the liquid team is moving towards 4.3 so I'm not even sure if this is going to matter to them...
This didn't happen to me, but I upgraded from 2.3. Got a little behind on the releases lol. Also, which kernel are you using? With liquidsmooth the stock kernels don't like my phone so i have to flash another...

Well i meant the kernel that is automatically installed when you flash Liquidsmooth. I am using the ATT S3 at the moment. The kernel that came with liquidsmooth always caused random reboots and similar problems for me. Now i use the BMS kernel (here) and have no more problems. I didnt really mess with the CPU settings on the liquidsmooth kernel, just set max frequency to 1242mHz for some extra battery life. With the BMS kernel, I have it undervolted -105mV and again set max frequency to 1242mHz.
Sorry for the confusion.

The thread you listed there confused me also... To use that USSD code you need to be on stock. I will try the gscript thing mentioned and tell you what happens. I also explained below what I did to backup.
Not sure what you mean by basic backup... but i will try explain everything anyway.
Method 1 -
This uses samsung's built-in NVRAM backup/restore function. I won't go into detail, but type in the following in a terminal-
Code:
su
reboot nvbackup
It will then boot into the bootloader, with some text telling you its copying the NVDATA to two partitions - fsg and backup .
to restore, type in
Code:
su
reboot nvrestore
DO NOT use the restore command without backing up first!! DOING SO WILL WIPE YOUR IMEI!!!
More Methods-
Method 2 -
.The devs of SynergyROM developed this - just download at the bottom of this post and flash in recovery.
This will generate some zips in sdcard/SynergyROM/backup. To restore, flash the one that begins with "keybackup".
-
There is a third way, called QPST. I would not use this unless you have balls of steel, and also it requires stock rom. Couldn't find anything about this, so i guess you could google it if interested.

Yeah, sorry. What I meant, was I used Samsung's backup--was that enough for you? Just worried about flashing another rom. Interestingly from what I read, the new versions of the IMEI format (3?) isn't supposed to cause problems--I guess that was wrong?
Additionally, the SynergyROM didn't work for me because apparently my bootloader is locked? I'm on AT&T and I thought AT&T had unlocked bootloaders?

Samsung's backup was enough for me, but I did the other stuff just to be safe. AT&T's bootloaders do come unlocked, otherwise you wouldn't be on CM10 From the errors it gave me in recovery that im assuming you got also said something about unlocked EFS. The EFS is where the NVItems are located, and it might require an unlocked device, as in you can use any carrier's SIM. I will unlock my GS3 (or atleast try) right now.
I will report back on that later.
EDIT: I need to go to the store right now, so it might be a while.

Oh dear.
I believe there is some miscommunication
The bootloader has always been unlocked. I'm not talking about the actual ROM (synergyROM), I'm talking about the IMEI backup thing they created.
Now, when I said unlock my phone, I DID NOT mean the bootloader, I meant carrier unlocking it, so I can use any sim from any carrier. I'll try to screenshot it later.
Sorry for the confusion duke.

Sorry, I think I'm being vague and not specific.
I'm wondering which IMEI back up steps you took. From what you've told me, it appears that you were able to run the Samsung backup, as well as the other ones (including SynergyROM backup?"). If you were able to run the SynergyROM backup, how did you do it? I was unable to run it because I got an error message saying that something was "locked" so I'm not sure how you got around to successfully flashing the SynergyROM.
Thanks for all the help.
I am posting this as a new topic because I don't have enough posts to post my concern in the thread of the ROM I use.
I have been using PATB ROM for a while now without any issues. Since updating to the newest version I have run into severe issues trying to flash anything besides doing Restores. Every time I try to flash something new it fails immediately and this includes trying to flash a new recovery. I did some reading and thought I had found the answer in restoring the system to stock firmware via Odin. However after trying this a short while ago the process failed as well as soon as Odin showed Recovery in the process bar. This screwed my phone pretty bad, but I was able to Odin a new Recovery on to the phone which seems to have taken it back to functioning normally. I am still unable to flash anything and the only stuff I can do inside Odin is to put different Recovery zips on the device. But even after doing that I am unable to flash anything, and it jumps to Failed right away.
I am not much more then slightly experienced when it comes to rooting and flashing but I have never come across anything like this before. I was using Xposed Framework and I unistalled it because I thought it might be causing the issue. But still no luck. This is driving me crazy. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated because I would like to try out some new ROMs. By the way my flash count reads as only 4 when taken into download mode even though I am pretty sure I have flashed more then that; unless it only trips when completely changing ROMs which would make it a correct count. So I am hoping somebody out there has seen this before and knows how to help me get past this. Thanks to those who are able to help.
Have you tried flashing the full MK4 firmware? IIRC you can't go backwards. Try this out: http://www.mediafire.com/download/7viivd985s7cp8l/L900VPUBMK4_L900SPTBMK4_HOME.tar.zip
Use Odin 3.07. If it fails go with 3.09. Please let me know if it works or not. Your partitions may be corrupt but that's a LONG shot. Let's just stick with you're trying to downgrade and the bootloader isn't letting you

After pouring over countless articles, threads, and posts about the same problem I finally got it to work. I used Odin to put the newest TWRP Recovery on to the device and from there I attempted to flash a stock rooted deodexed MC2. After it failed 3 times I unchecked zip verification as a long shot and it took, flashing the stock ROM. At first I was a little concerned because of how fast it flashed but for the most part everything worked fine. My only problem after this was my baseband was stuck on lj1 which was easily remedied by flashing a modem zip. After that I was having issues with calls dropping almost instantly. I could have a full bar reception and as soon as the call connected it would drop and say I was outside of service area. Thinking back to something I read elsewhere I went into applications/phone and deleted the data (after backing it up) and now things seem to be running very nicely. So needless to say it has been a stressful couple days but diligence and studying got me where I needed to be (hopefully).
By the way no I have not gone to MK4 yet because of there not being any custom ROMs with additional features that make it worth it for me to do so. I will do so either once a custom ROM drops with the N3 air view features added and fully functional or when I purchase my Galaxy Gear. Until then I am going to run the MK4 modem which I have read improves reception and data speed. Thanks for the advice.
Mod this problem is officially solved and this thread can be closed and/or deleted.
