Is there any way to make regular widgets persistent? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Does anyone know if there is a way or an app that allows regular widgets to be pinned in place, like the google search bar at the top of the screen? I want to create a custom background with certain spots designated for certain widgets, but I want them to be present on every page, without having any transition effects when I swipe from page to page. Does anyone know if there is a way to make this happen?

[Q] ADW Launcher EX - Hidden dock bar purpose?

Hey folks,
I've been wondering what was the purpose behind the hidden dock bar really? I haven't been able to find a use for such a feature. In most case I'd something like FileCrypt...
Wanted to know what you guys thought?...
It's an extra dock bar where you can add more app shortcuts and not clutter up your home screen

Yeah I get that part also... But I have way to many apps I access on a regular basis so... no real usefulness.
Different strokes for different folks.

That doesn't mean it's not useful to someone else.
Hidden doc
I used it to keep my desktop clean looking. No apps in the main doc and kept my apps on the hidden doc. That way I could have a really niche desktop pic with maybe a clock on it and one or two other information widgets and no other icons. I could just swipe and there's my doc.
I'm looking to download the previous version any ideas?

[Q] can the search bar be removed ?

Nearly every picture of this phone I've seen it has a rather large search bar at the top of the home screen. Can it be removed? If not - could it be removed with root ?

P3Droid has done it...
by far my biggest gripe with ics
Hum. But he didn't say how Hopefully google rethinks this feature of the software. I mean I don't mind it being optional and default but ...

If you remove that ... you need another hack to enable "search".
Because there is no search "key" (virtual key).

They could bind it to long-press task switcher key for example. My x10 did also come without search button but it was bound to long-press menu key. Should be possible with software keys as well, right?

I wouldn't mind so much if they let me resize the damn thing. I know it's important but I really want it a quarter of it's current size.
I think P3Droid did it by modifying Launcher.apk and pushing it back to the device.

thye could let us at least be able to move it.. say to one of the other 5 screens, so its not on the main one
I believe its constant across all 5 homescreens, but I understand what you mean. I assume you mean have only one, and make it available to move around right?
If you are willing to root, then you can do many UI customizations as per P3Droid's mods or Paul_Brian's ROMs. You need root because most involve editing the launcher or framework-res.apk and other system components.
Yea. For me anyways I would rarely use search; so stuffing it in a place where it doesn't take prime space would be nice....; alternatively it could just be an ap that you can put on a screen as desired; or a menu option to enable / disable. Lots of solutions that doesnt' require it to be on every screen at the top...

Considering that you can't use the space that is left when you get rid of the search bar, I personally don't see what all the fuss is about.
You cannot place homescreen shortcuts or any other widget there, since as soon as you pick up an icon or widget to place on the home screen, that area is reserved for the Remove/App Info/Uninstall prompt.
So the only result of getting rid of the search bar would be a blank space that can serve no function at all. If I had to choose between a blank space that cannot be utilised, over a search bar...I'd choose search bar.
Or just download a different launcher. My HC tablet has the Google Search widget at the top-left corner that is static. A quick ADW EX download and bada-bing, bada-boom.
I'm running ICS CM7 theme on my G2x and I kinda like the search bar's location. Eventually I'd like to replace it with a clock or weather widget, but I don't stick with the stock launcher very long.
Ack I though the space could be used (I do not yet have the phone). That is also sad

When you disable google search it doesn't remove the permanent widget?

Your absolutely right but the trouble is it just looks ****e so I'd rather it wasn't there.
I'm sure someone will work out how to reclaim the space.

I find its design rather pointless, as soon as you click in the search box you're taken to another slightly smaller search box which has none of the transparency of the first...

How about a complet transparent search bar? You couldn't see it but it's there and if you know it you can use it.
The search bar should remain a widget, as it used to be. That would give users the most options, which is what Android is about.

Prevent phone from adding shortcuts after install

Hey guys,
As the title says I am looking for a way to disable that stupid function when you install an app there will be automatically a shortcut added to the desktop.
Didn't find any solution for that, even using different launcher and no sense launcher.
It really ****s up my beautiful desktop screens.
Thanks in advance.

It's in the market settings ('Auto-add widgets')
you can also just long press and drag the widget up to where it says "remove" at the top of the screen. i prefer downloading the widget and then deciding if i want it visible or not.

thanks for the clarification. as i said, i prefer deciding whether it should be visible or not, rather than having them all not visible (and maybe having to hunt for it).
I normally use a blank page for this: First navigate to that page, then install the applications.
Now this page has all applications I have to try out.
It's some sort of todo page.

Is there an app or widget that can do this?

I am trying to find an app..or see if its something I can do with UCCW. Id like to have a "folder" on my home screen that can scroll through the apps I put in there. For example, if I make a folder that goes across the home screen and label it games. I can put my games in and swipe through to see them. I guess best way I can explain is something like Nova's dock how you can just have a few pages to swipe through but your still on home screen.
You're able to swipe to open folders in Nova Launcher There is a possibility that you may need to purchase the premium version of it however.

You're going to need to elaborate on it. I tried to understand your question, but I myself am having some difficulty understanding you.
If I'm understanding you you want a widget that you can customize with apps to scroll thru that's how I interpreted that. If you find a solution please share

Pretty much that's it. I think you got what I meant. I don't explain it to well. Anyone ever use stardock Fences for windows? Guess that's the closest I can think of. Just picture placing 4 or 5 icons horizontally across your home screen. Then I can label it games. Then I can scroll left or right to scroll through all my games but I'm still on the home screen. If I find one I'll let ya know. There has to be a way with UCCW I just don't know how to use it well enough

In the Play Store look for Folder Organizer by Fabio Collini. I was able to create a 4x1 folder for games. I can swipe up and down to scroll through. However I could not swipe left and right and the swiping is not in an endless loop. Closest thing to what you are looking for that I know of. I have the paid version and do not know if the Lite version can do the same or not.

OmniSwitch only appears in Omni ROMs. Hence the name OmniSwitch in the title. If you want to get that, you could always look at the unofficial OmniROM thread in this subforum here. If you don't want to lose your current ROM that you're using, OmniSnitch is the alternative that you're looking for.

Using V10 Second Screen App Shortcut for Quick Popup Widgets

Using the app called Popup Widget, I'm able to quickly place any kinds of widget directly on the second screen, since we can easily move back and forth app shortcuts from the second screen and home screen, but that mainly applies to the stock launcher only, tried with Nova, but didn't work. Anyways, here's a video showing an example of creating widget and placing it into second screen and works fine.
https://youtu.be/mX-diQEANw8
The app is called Popup Widget, and can be found on the Play Store.
Credits @klark1kent for the idea of implementing custom widgets on the second screen using Zooper and Tasker apps. If you want, you can head over to his thread in the link below for an in-depth guide using Zooper Widgets
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/themes-apps/screen-custom-app-icons-widget-t3269726
Update: So, I've created a new video that actually allows you to add more icons/shortcuts to the second screen. So take a look over at the link below.
https://youtu.be/nuo0IAhwUR0
The app is called SiMi Folder Widget, and can be found on the Play Store.

Usually what I'd do since you can easily toggle between different launchers via settings, just switch to the stock launcher, place it in then change back.

The idea was actually from your thread, so got to thank you for that idea that you actually came up, and I was looking around for other alternatives instead of using Zooper and Tasker, and Popup Widget sort of solves the issue for me. And also having to place any kind of widgets on your second screen really helps in situations where you wouldn't want to get kicked out of other apps, let's say if you are messaging and you want to quickly see some new tweets to freshen up.

That's exactly what I said in thr original thread. I used popup widget also but hey I'm happy you liked the idea and clearly I didn't create a guide initially because I wanted to get it out to the community as soon as possible anyway I agree the options are endless... The only thing about just using popup which I alluded to in the other post is that it wasn't working with other launchers and zooper allows you to create your own widgets and add them to popup instead of relying on system default widgets. Let's keep the innovations coming though but yeah I was surprised you essentially jacked the idea with zero credit. Thanks for making it right

I haven't tried, but would think you could make a widget from Zooper, then use Popup widgets utilizing your custom zooper widget

As those are LG-based Widgets, which is lockdown only to stock launcher, Popup Widget can't recognize it as a proper widget, only universal ones work.
Hence sadly it's not possible to actually get those into the second screen.
