finding the right OS recomendations? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

i am trying to find an OS with great battery life, the best possible cell reception, that i can copy and paste easily between all screens and that has neat features for usability.
I have used dark side and jedi mind tricks ICS and both had great battery life, i liked jedi better.
i tried AOKP V3 jelly bean and it was very fast and worked great but battery life was half that of ICS, there were days i would have the phone unpluged for 3 hours and it would be down by 60%.
i am running jedi mind tricks jelly bean right now and its much better on battery life than AOKP was but the messaging is slower, the flash light is a bit glitchy and the cell service is much weaker than AOKP was.
what OS should i try next?

I prefer jedi mind trick jb. But embryo 6-11 (Touchwiz 4.1.2) is also great. I got great battery life with it and there are so many settings to play with (i.e. statusbar transparency, overclock, etc...). Its really fast and stable and is a good rom overall. Plus I think you meant custom rom instead of a OS.
Don't forget to hit thanks

i am using jedi mind trick 4 jelly bean right now. its fast in some areas but slow on teh txt screen, has graphic glitches in 3D games, is a bit slow when searching contacts and turning on the flash light makes the camera crash untill i reboot. perhaps i should try version 5?

im installing version 5 tonight and ill see how it runs. i am seriously thinking of just going back to ICS, i love some of the features of JB but i just cant find a good version of it.

As far as OS goes I'd say Android
As for a Custom ROM I'd say try them all and make the choice your self..(I know I hate that answer too.. But its the only way you'll find what's eight for you.. )
I personally love AOKP and Cyanogen as they are the only truly custom built from source ROMs. Have many features. And if set up and tweaked have awesome battery life..
But lately I've been using Jedi Mind trick and its a pretty nice mix between battery and performance.

Stock JB is actually very nice...much better than stock ICS, which was awful. Just root it and debloat however you like.

Galaxy Nexus LTE Roms

Hello, im thinking about flashing a new rom on my phone but just wanted to get some input on which is the fastest / stable rom for galaxy nexus LTE version.. any input would be great thanks
I'm using the latest ARHD and love it. I haven't tried anything else so can't compare but I have no reason to flash anything different considering this is pretty perfect.

I'm running GummyNex 0.2.9. It has great support (updated every night that I've been running it so far) and includes a few minor tweaks that add to the experience. Probably my favorite thing about it is that it includes an OC/UV kernel (that is kept updated, as well), so it makes installation of everything even easier.
I'm running zygotes 1.9 . Tried gummynex and arhd both excellent roms as well. Bench marked highest with zygotes so I am sticking with this for now. If you want stability #1 I'd say arhd.

Which ROM is has great battery life and is the most stable/fast. I do like mods too and stuff I just don't know which to flash to get the SMOOTHEST and fastest experience plus better battery life. I'm on a 4.0.2 right now I should probably go to a 4.0.3?
Sent from this GN on 4GLTE!
Personally, I'd go with ARHD. I've used it on my Transformer, and once I finally get around to flashing my device, that'll be the first (and most likely) only rom I put on it. Mike does a great job with his ROM's, and I haven't found one (especially on my Transformer) that I like more.
That's just my opinion. As usual, YMMV, but it's what I'd use.

can't go wrong with Peter Alfonso's Bugless Beast 4.0.3. His roms are always stable, he has a lot of experience. His roms are also on Rom Manager, which makes it easy too. He also has 4.0.2 & 4.0.1 builds
Galaxy Nexus Bugless Beast 4.0.3 cdma
What's the best overall? I'm on arhd and its pretty good just want to really know what's best. Arhd needs a 4.0.3.

The best IMO is Zygot3 v2.0 its really smooth and great on battery life. 2nd runner up is Android Revolution HD v2.1.2. I chose Zygot3 because battery, life the T9 dialer, notification toggles, advanced power menu and modded launcher that has a settings button.
I was using RootzBoat v4 from and it was great. I got the urge and flashed a CM9 kang.
IMO the CM9 kang is iffy. Works well but getting issues where apps just randomly close. Maybe a memory issue. It comes with notification toggles and the CM9 T9 dialer which is sweet.
Rootzboat was pretty smooth. I have a backup of it. I had a battery percentage mod and CM9 T9 Dialer. No notification toggles though.
Widgetsoid toggles are flaky. They work better in CM9.
Honestly just backup your current from and start going hog wild. Almost all rooms work with 100% functionality except MIUI. Some are just more stable then others.

I installed Android Revolution HD yesterday and I'm liking it, I'm noticing a bit less lag when scrolling between screens than I was on stock. I'm also seeing a little better battery life, I'm guessing 10-12 hours, where I was seeing 5-8 hours before. This ROM is worth checking out as there aren't a ton of options at the moment. This should hold me over until CM9!

Jedi mind trick or Jedi knight 2?

I noticed the same dev makes both roms and from screen shots I can't tell a difference.
Does anybody know the difference between these 2 roms?

Honestly I had the same question in mind.

Mind Trick is based off 4.0.3 and Knight is based off 4.0.4
I prefer Mind Trick because its been around longer and feels a bit more stable and agile (because the dev had more time to work on it).

Jedimind is just quick,Prefer mind than knight because of lag experience with battery saver.
thanks
glade some one asked, i was wondering the same thing and i did notice when i was using mind trick it was smoother, and knight had some lag to it...think im going back to mind trick...

May be with his experience built a better ROM than JMT
Ive used both as a daily driver and while both work great, i found myself leaning to the JMT. Both felt stable but the JMT ROM was [email protected] vs stock for JK. great ROMS both of them.
Jedi Mind Tricks. Jedi Knight 2 on the full is hardcore bloated but runs with no stutter and the Jedi Knight 2 Slim seems to stutter more. If you want the official note pop up video player, go Jedi Knight.
Jedi Mind Trick is a NICE ROM! Great battery life and REALLY stable! The Jedi Knight ROM is not as stable but has better BATTERY life!
Hope this helps!
I used both and for me both are great, no stutter or fc on them.
I lean toward JK2 just because is 4.0.4.
In the end, just try both of them and see if one it's better for you.

Koodo V3 has been the best for me as it is pretty much as close to stock ICS as you are going to get. People also rave about Jedi Knight and Jedi Mind Trick although I have not personally tried the latter two. All three are from the same great developer and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

I agree with the above... Koodo V3 is great. Might have something to do with being in Canada but I'm not sure.

Use the Jedi mind trick ROM. Its smooth and acts like a sgs3. Perfect for every day use. Also try the aokp build 2 jb ROM. Its better and faster. More customizable.

New to the Herc here and I went with JMT v9. Running smooth, no complaints and the dev is a good guy.
Try Darthstalker I like a lot more than the Jedi roms and it the rom with the best battery life that I've used.

[Q] Need a good ROM for my wife

My wife and I both have Galaxy S3's, mine from Verizon (Work) and her's AT&T. I'm running the Jelly 'Beans' ROM with Imoseyons 1.8 Lean Kernel and the phone is great with excellent battery life.
What I need for her phone is a stock-looking ROM on the front end with a fast and stable back end with GREAT battery life. She came from an HTC OneX and her only complaint about the S3 is battery life compared to the HTC. I need something that I can flash and forget, doing constant flashes on her phone isn't feasible. So, what's the best ROM and Kernel combo for her?
For battery life and simplicity Liquid Smooth beta with KTOONZ kernel is what I'd run excellent battery life. Its my back up rom. I've had 4% battery drop in five hours. Very fast and stable no glitches at all.

If you want a ROM where you dont need to flash constant updates - stick to a TW based ROM.
Like CSRom or Dandroid
If i had to recommend a good rom i would say Vanilla Rootbox, it's stable with a good amount of features.
Team Venum Wicked Sensations.
Sent from my SGH-I747M
Another vote for CSROM. Great battery life (especially with Ktoonsez's kernel) and it's TW so she won't have much adjusting to do.
I think I'm going to go with CSROM with Ktoonsez's kernel. Thanks for the replies!
CSROM or i747z are great.

If you want to keep it simple, try Task650's AOKP 4.2.1 rom. Great battery life, extremely stable, no ridiculous theming, tons of setup options within the rom. Would be perfect for your wife, sir!

I'm running Task's AOKP on my AT&T S3. It's fast and I get great battery life, up to 2 or 3 days sometimes without heavy use. With average use, you can still easily get through the day.
CyanogenMod is a pretty good and light rom to start with.
but if you dont like constant updates, i'd say just stick with TW rom, the Samsung apps on there are pretty sweet, especially S Memo
Rom (Blackjelly): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883845
and
Kernel (KT747): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
Both combined give me a fantastic battery life along with great performance.

I don't know if you've made your decision OP, but most of these people recommend TW based roms. I agree with them. AOSP roms are constantly getting updated which is not what you want, so touchwiz based is the way to go. CSRom is an excellent choice and KToon's kernel is superb for battery life in my own experience. Just wanted to let you know that AOSP roms are not really what you should choose if you don't plan on flashing her device a lot.

Actually, you only have to flash a lot if those updates are important to you. I've been on the same version of tasks 4.1.2 rom for months, no need to update... most of the updates are tiny tweaks and updates, like lockscreen options, and things like that... as long as it's stable and fully functional (which tasks builds are infamous for being) just grab the latest version, flash and forget.

At this point 4.2.1 is still in early stages. I would wait a while until most things are fully functional and the only things being worked on are additions and minor minor bugs that don't affect performance to much.

Do believe slim is also not aokp
There are some older TW roms running GB and ICS might wanna check those out. I dont know about battery life but I would believe a close to stock GB rom would get better battery then fully fledged TW UX jelly bean rom but thats just me. Id experiment a bit because im sure everyones battery status is different depending on the manufacturing quality or how the battery was used. Good luck! :good:
