Hey everyone. I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to use Link2SD. I partitioned my 32G SD card using Mini Partition Tool. I made a 1 gig partition. I've tried FAT32 and EXT2. After partitioning, i rebooted and tried Link2SD. I keep getting the error "Mount script cannot be created. [1] Segmentation fault mount ..."
Is there any solution for the xperia play? I manually moved my apps but still ran out of space keeping system tools like Titanium Backup on the internal. Maybe I should make them System Apps?
I use the following on mine setup:
64gb Card (Fat32 - Primary)
5GB for EXT4 partition (Make sure when you partition it to set it as primary.)
300mb Swap Partition
I had an issue with Link2SD too ad it was because I was not setting the EXT partition as primary, oncei formatted it again as primary Link2SD had not issue with it. Try that.

Hey thanks for the reply. Just tried what you said. My FAT32, ext4, and Swap are all Primary and sill no go. I get the same error (segmentation fault mount -t ext4...). When Link2SD opens I've tried selecting all the options for the parition type too and none of them work.
Anything else I can try? Does the order of the partitions make any difference? Right now I am Primary, ext4, Swap.

Ah.... okay, I should have clarified this, only the fat32 and EXT partition are set to Primary. Swap Partition is set to logical, setting all three to primary causes issues.
Reformat only the swap and format to logical. Then in Link2SD force it to reinstall the scripting and see if that fixes it.

Okay then. New problem. Now Link2SD says "No SD card present" and android doesn't mount it either.
This is killing me slowly.
I'll try to reformat the whole card via a reader...
Didnt work. SD card still not recognized.

OK. If your willing, lets start fresh. I am guessing you have your SDcard files backed up. Using Minitool partition delete all partitions and format as FAT32. Then create another partition of your size and format it as EXT (I prefer 4, EXT4) and set it to EXT(2,3,4,etc) and Primary. Then just for kicks, do not make a swap partition. I read that its not necessary, however I always do it..... well necessary only if you use a swap manager. So after the fat32 and ext partitions are made and minitool has created them. Take out the card, put it back into your pc and see if windows sees the fat32 partition. If good place it back into your phone and see if it upon bootup sees your sdcard.
Just in case as a reference here is the tutorial from the developer of Link2SD on how to set it up.

PC sees the FAT32. Phone sees the card now. Link2SD shows the partition but cant mount it and create the script for it. Also tried as ext2. Thanks for your help. I am going to try to update the ROM.
After updating the ROM to 2.4.0 and waiting 10 mins and rebooting as usual. was able to successfully link the partition! Thanks for your help!

Got all my apps installed! Woot! Also, something must have been messed up with my previous flash.. I wasn't able to restore apps the newer way from titanium backup. I had to do it the old way one by one.
phone is going to make a great gaming alternative to my SGSII.

Hi sorry if this has been answered but couldnt find it.
i recently purchased a a bigger size micro sd card for my htc desire. The phone will not turn on with the card in, nor can i format it in the recovery memory. Can someone tell me what i need to format it as on computer. GPT MBR, FAT 32. etc etc. Thank you
I used Gparted in Linux to set up the standard layout:
- 32MB SWAP
- 512MB EXT2
- Rest FAT32
You can download a livecd of Gparted, or use "Partition SD Card" within ROM Manager.
You can download GParted for Windows aswell. Google it.
Or you can flash amon ra recovery and use that to partition within the recovery.
Also rom manager allows you to partition the card as well. I personally use 0mb for swap and 768mb for ext3. Do note rom manager only allows you to use an ext partition no bigger then 512mb. I assume it only formats it in ext2. My opinion is amon ra recovery is the way to go. Use version r5 as the latest is quite buggy according to other users. Or you can use gparted as mentioned earlier.
Misunderstood your post, use gparted. I didnt read that you cant turn on the phone with the card in it.

I'm also having a little problem with the partitions...
I have a 32gb card, but when i remove it from the card reader after making the partitions (or after disconnecting the phone from the computer) the only partition remaining is the FAT32...ext and swap become unloccated space :s
how can i fix this?

You do realize that you can't use the SWAP and EXT partitions as drive-space, right?

they are not accessable within windows
i know, i used gparted. but when i remove the sd card/disconnect the phone from usb mode the partitions are gone :|

yes, but i'm not talking about the space...the entire partition itself dissapears. for example, if i'm going to flash a rom that need an ext partition it won't flash...the ext partition is gone
one question,
should the ext partition be in the front or at the back of the FAT32 partition?

I'm running Cyanogenmod 7 on my HTC Desire with Apps2SD.
I was deleting an 800MB file off my phone when it was mounted on my PC and then my PC crashed mid-way through deleting the file and now I can't see the file that way being deleted but the space shows it's not deleted...
And I've also been getting a lot of "SD Card Damaged" notifications on my Phone (reboot fixes it) that were unrelated to the above.
So I wanted to reformat my SD Card (or fix disk errors or something).
I've got a 14GB FAT32 partition and and a 1GB Ext3 partition for apps.
Is it as simple as copying the contents from the FAT32 and Ext3 and then using gparted to erase and format a 1GB Ext3 and the rest FAT32?
(I'm running Linux - Ubuntu 11.04)
Should I do it by MicroSD>SD Card Adapter>PC
Or MicroSD>Phone>USB Cable>PC?

Either would work fine, though I have heard of some folks having issues with the SD>Phone method...
What If I change the size of the Ext3 partition?
If I change it from a 1GB to a 700MB will it adjust and work fine?

Should be fine... as long as you don't require a 1gb partition on your rom

With a card reader micro sd card adapter, ubuntu sometimes complains the sd card is read-only. If it's so, start nautilus with root rights:

Maybe you should try to reformat the card exactly as it was, play back the contents and pray.
You wrote, that you had a read/write error with a 800 MB file and multiple error messages.
I would have saved my data per Titanium and Nandroid, formated and make a fresh ROM install. But alas - that´s no option at the moment.
If the above doesn´t work maybe the folks in the CM7 section have an idea.
It won't even turn on with no SD Card in it.

first of all i would like to point out that i have searched for this topic and have tried a few solutions, but it didnt work..
here it goes..
so im switching to a new sd, and just tried to swap the cards but when i do that im either stuck in bootloop,
or if i reflash i have nothing installed on the phone (and i dont mean apps, bcs there isnt a lot of them and i dont mind reinstalling),
for example when i press settings it says it is not installed lol..
there is also nothing on the homescreens, and when the screen locks i cannot unlock it bcs there are no buttons..
Its a 16GB class 6 card with a fat 32, and ext3 (1024mb), and a ext4 (768mb), as is requred by some roms (feel free to correct me if im wrong)
The formatting was done by minitool, as i cannot go into disk drive mode to do it with gparted (with the new card inserted almost nothing works)
the old one is a 4gig with a etx3(1024mb) and works normally when i put it back, although sometimes it needs reflashing..
i have tried mirroring the old cards folder to the new one, via sd card reader, but it doesnt solve the problem...it stays the same..
any and all help is appreciated
You should do a nandroid backup of your rom, copy entire FAT32 over to the new card and then do a nandroid restore.

It was used by scripts which are not developed for about a year and thus obsolete. No mainstream script requires that.

It is enough, but the question remains whether it will work if you used that same dual ext partitions setup on your old 4GB card. I'm not sure, but maybe someone could clarify that. Ext partition is needed, otherwise you'll end in a bootloop - especially if some vital parts of the rom were symlinked there.
I presume you have cwm recovery installed.
If so format your card with SDformatter V 3.1. TO FAT 32 with size adjustment on.
This will format all your card to fat32,
Put the card back in phone and partition the card from within cwm recovery,
Select size of ext partition (1024kb is usually big enough) select 0 for swap.
Ext partitions are used to save on internal memory by moving apps ( (and sometimes data and dalvik cache aswell) to the ext partition and using it as if it was internal memory.
Hope this helps...
i have used only ext3 on my old card...so i guess the same would work on the new one....
so if i got this right, i can restore the old rom via nandroid...and i guess flashing something else in the future should also work...
CWM Recovery is at version 5.0.2.6 at the moment this partitions sdext with ext3 which works fine on nearly all roms. There is a 4Ext Recovery available which can convert ext3 to ext4 if required, just do a search for it if you need it, but you should be fine with ext3.

The restore thingy didnt help, ima still stuck at boot logo, or if i try another restore, i manage to boot, but again nothing is installed (settings and stuff)

Alright, this is a guide for those people who need to increase/decrease their size of ext2/3/4 partition or even change SD card as I did from 2 GB Samsung to 4 GB Kingston Class 4.
This has been tested on windows 8.
Windows only recognizes the first partition of any removable device, this is where the problem lies while changing SD card or while making the amendments to your Ext partition. You apps will all be LOST if you format without care. Don't get hyper, this is quick and easy guide.
Things you will need.
1.Minitool Partition wizard home edition (probably the same which you used to create the partition)
2.Ext2 Volume manager.
3.Ext2IFS for windows.
USB mount is strictly not advisable, use a card reader. If you don't have any then use a mobile which is not an android, Nokia as for example.
1. Switch your mobile off, remove SD card. Insert it into card reader and then to USB port.
2.Windows will show you your FAT/FAT32 partition.
3.Backup your FAT/FAT32 partition. This is because you are gonna delete this partition.
4.After backing up open Minitool Partition wizard, delete your FAT/FAT32 partition. Be sure to delete this only, DO NOT DELETE EXT2/3/4. Apply those changes.
5.Go to Ext2 Volume manager and select the removable SD card. Double click on Linux partition. Then click on mount points and done.
6.Go to My computer and you will find your Ext2/3/4 partition as a removable drive. Backup this, be sure to copy all the files. Do not leave any file.
7.Now delete this partition from Minitool Partition wizard, your full card is empty now.
8.Create a new parition as primary and Ext2/3/4. Drag this to the far right. Be sure that all the unallocated space is before this Ext partition. Not even a single MB should be after this partition. Apply changes. Select the size of partition according to your convenience.
9.Copy all those EXT backup files to this Ext partition. Windows will show this partition now. If it does not, go to Ext2 Volume manager and do the steps you did before.
10.Now that you have created an Ext partition of your desirable size. Go to Minitool Partition wizard and create a primary FAT/FAT32 partition in the unallocated space. Apply changes.
11.Copy those backup files on this new partition of fat file system which you copied. Now the Ext partition will not be shown in windows.
12.You are done! Insert SD into your phone and power it on. The first boot will take a little longer than normal.
13.Go to link2sd and check the storage, you will be having all the apps + your partition size is increased/decreased now.
If you have any problems tell me.

I believe that increasing means getting bigger ext partition without the need to re-partition the card. If I were you I would create a guide in RESIZING EXT PARTITIONS, else rename your guide to "how to repartition a SD Card"

I followed all of your steps to the letter to repartition and increase the size of my link2sd partition and after rebooting my phone, I'm getting nothing but error messages and "force close" left and right. I'm not sure at all what had gone wrong. :/ I backed up every single file from both partitions, but everything appears to be borked.
UPDATE: it's apparently not mounting the second partition; that's at least what it seems to be telling me as I'm going through some of the stuff on link2sd

My SD card's 2nd partition is FAT32 and I'd like to increase it's size. How do I do it without losing my apps installed on there?
I tried connecting it to card reader and using miniTools to increase the size but it only allows NTFS partition to increase without losing data.

Hi, just a quick question, can I increase the size of partition 2 without formatting or losing files and data?
Seems I've made a bit of a booboo somewhere. I was recreating the ext3 partition on my sd card. I deleted the existing ext4 partition and resized the fat32 partition to take up the slack left behind. When I checked the partitions afterwards, everything was fine and all my files were present and correct in my fat32 partition. I booted into recovery, formatted all partitions except my fat32 and went to install my rom again. Except I forgot to put it on the sd card. So I copied it back on to my sd card, stuck the card back in the phone, booted into recovery and promptly got a message that pb99diag.zip is missing. I've checked the entire fat32 partition and there's no sign of it. I tried renaming "OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5-2.29.405.2_releasedauhl6jhok5cmdm6.zip" to "pb99diag.zip" but it doesn't seem to like it.
How can I get back into recovery without the pb99diag.zip?

It's because you resized it, I believe it might eventually stop searching for the file and go into recovery, but it's not ideal.
I'd try backing up sd again, and completely reformatting and partitioning again, but using up to date gparted instead.

- And are you trying to install an RUU? In which case you don't need an ext partition at all?

I had 2 2gb ext partitions, ext3, ext4. I didn't need 2 so deleted 1 and just created a single ext3 partition. I wanted to go back to my PA jb 4.2.2 which was working fine until I used link2sd to free up some more system space but because its sh1t it just completely ballsed up my entire install. I installed an RU and this left me rooted with s-off and it was plain sailing from there to reinstall recovery and flash my custom rom again. I'm using a different sd card now (for testing purposes) but I'm still getting the pb99 errors. As you say, it will eventually allow me into recovery and I can continue what I'm doing but it takes ages and I've never had this issue before.
I'm using MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional to create my partitions.

There's your main problem, do not use MiniTool Partition Wizard. More often than not it creates improperly aligned partitions. Link2SD won't have helped either, it's a messy method and you don't need it with 4.2.2 ROMs, follow the instructions to activate A2SD via terminal commands.
I would backup the FAT32 partition of your sd card, and reformat and repartition the whole thing using gparted. Use this video guide to help
Basically you want to remove all partitions and create one FAT32 partition, and max 2GB ext4 partition. You might as well keep it ext4 over ext3, it should be marginally faster.
Then full wipe and reflash ROM, don't use link2SD.
You should also look to s-off, search for guides, much more powerful, and useful if things go wrong.
