What is the absolute best ROM for battery and speed? It's a very simple question.
There's a million ROMS to choose from, AOSP vs. TW roms and all that, but just give me your top 3 ROMS and I'll do my best to flash them.
And by speed, I just mean no lag, and by battery, I mean extended life (with greenify, and DS battery saver and all that).
I've already tried Deviant Xone but I'm having 3G issues.
THANKS!

It's up to you to find which one works the best for you. These personal opinion questions with no answer really anger the moderators. But I really liked AOKP. It got good battery life and had good performance. I just prefer TW ROMs to AOKP/AOSP. Liquid smooth was appealing, but it had a lot of bugs for me.
1. Freeza's Deodexed Stock MD4
2. Chemistry ROM (Wait until they update it to MD4 base though) It's currently 4.1.1 with multiview.
3. AOKP

No there isn't. Just try them all. Devs here put amazing time and effort into each rom that gets put out. There isn't a best one. They all are absolutely amazing.

Hi guys I'm pretty new to the world of Android after going through several generations of iPhones I got bored and love my GS2. Now I see that there's a bunch of roms to choose from and I was curious if there were any websites that specifically review them. In a non biased way. In reality I'm looking for the ROM that has the best battery life but is hard to know based on the individual room descriptions. Thank you in advance and thank you developers for giving us so many options.
Your best bet would be to skim the ROM threads and make a decision on which rom will suit you best based on pros and cons that users report. The number of hits each thread has gives you a vague idea of the popularity of a specific rom. Really the only person that can make unbiased reviews on these roms is you because in the end the "best rom" is entirely up to you and your specific needs

FLASH THEM ALLLLLL
Honestly, all the roms here are quick and smooth.. my DD (daily driver) right now is dewizzed + faux kernel + gideon's script (incredible battery life)
I chose dewizzed because of the simplicity of it.
people say that synergy has good battery life with dewizzed, but you might encounter a few lag stutters here and there? not sure.. im actually testing it right now.
Okay now if you want it to be more stock, i recommend Juggernaut rom, that's probably the best touchwiz rom out right now.. battery life good but not as good as dewizzed.
If you want to see what an android is capable of in a theme category, check out thursday's rom, Tuesday. I played with it for a couple hours but the purple was too much for me. great rom though.
Haven't really tried any of the rest. good luck and welcome!
Since i got my gs2 about a month ago, i flashed the bombaridier 3.5 rom and i never look back.
If battery life is ur top priority this rom iss for u. I easily get 18-20 hours with moderate use everyday. Plus its stable and fast. All i have done is put the ics theme and thats it
Give it a try, u wont regret it

If you want a site that reviews roms and gives some good advice and tricks for the gs2 then go to galaxys2root.com they have stuff for all versions. Btw i am not afilliated with the site at all, i just use it to see the roms before i flash them

I have been using FreeGS3 ROM from Clark44 for the last few weeks and I love it. I started at .0.6 and been updating ever since. Clark44 is constantly working on this ROM so you know it will always be up to date and he is always open resolving any issues with the ROM. The first ROM I flashed was Blazer ROM from PhantomHacker and that was also a great ROM. Ive only tried v1.5. I was wondering your guys opinion on the two ROMs and how they differ if they do. battery life. speed and such.
I have both roms waiting for me when i get home from work. I will definitely give them both a test drive and will report back. I just got this phone so I'm definitely loving touchwiz so I'm glad both those roms have touchwiz with some tweaks.
Are you kidding me?
Freegs3 ...
No slight to any other dev, ...but right now, Freegs3 is class of the field.
FreeGS3 is clearly the best ROM out right now. No other Dev is doing what Clark44 is doing. Updates regularly. Installing stuff on ROM no one else has. FreeGS3 is in it's own class.

I've always been a fan of Phantom and Blazer Rom since the Epic Touch days.....although I admit he just hits my personal sweet spot with the features he includes....I like Clark's rom too....I kind of don't like the Aroma feature though. It's cool, but for an extra 200MB when I have to download my roms at work?
Anyway, I'd give Blazer's 1.7 a chance. I like Clark's a lot too but to me Blazer seems a little more polished.

blazer 1.7 is superfast. No lag, battery last almost 2 days
this message brought to you by my GalaxyS3 running Phantom's Blazer
Just flashed FreeGS3 v.0.0.9 its so sweet....
I started with Blazer 1.5. So far its been great up until the latest 1.7 update. It broke a lot of things even AFTER being released with a 100% chance of bootloop. No idea how that got past him and the testers. Ill try FGS3 and see how it goes.
On a different note, it pains me to see so many people asking tiring, old or silly questions about their phone (it sounds like half these people this is their first phone). How much faster and cleaner would threads be without every day someone asking a question that can be easily asked in Q&A or using Search/Google or reading the OP. I hope our GS3 userbase matures a little bit faster.
Pro-Con? Cyanogen?

As forum regular, you'll always encounter that from those of us who don't come here often. The fact is, stuff is hard to find from scratch because people don't always title their posts for clarity, major issues are discussed via thread-creep, and the search engine just doesn't deliver.
I looked today for a concise, simple pro-con comparing some of these ROMs to each other and to stock, and I didn't find one. I imagine the topic's been discussed in bits and pieces within multiple within threads here, but I couldn't find it in 10 minutes via search. Unless you're a regular reader, stuff is just hard to find quickly.
On the general topic, what's the consensus about Cyanogen 9? I ran C-7 on my GX2 and really liked the extensive customizations and features. I've seen lots of vague posts about the pros of C-9 on GS3, but no one's done even a basic con piece that I can find. It DOES look like the C-9 ROM has a very basic camera app with significantly fewer features than the stock ROM. What else do you lose with Cyanogen?
It looks to this non-expert like the ROMs you're debating here are relatively minor tweaks of stock ROM, while C-9 is an entirely different animal. I'm not such a hobbyist that I'm likely to flash a ROM for cooler animations, quicker transitions, or better menu transparencies. I see anecdotal claims that battery life is improved. How much better is it? Anyone tested it? What real functionality do you gain with these ROMs vs stock? What do you lose? I watched a video or two, and I remain unmoved.

It looks like you've been lurking here for a while. I can't really answer your CM9 question because I haven't tried it because, well, CM10 is actually very stable. I can't give you exact battery stats, but it can go for longer than twelve hours with a few hours screen time for me. You lose a lot of Touchwiz motion features compared to stock, but you get smoother animations and Google Now and just plain stock Android. You do lose a lot of extra camera features but the camera is fully functional.
I've been reading up on both, trying to figure out which one to flash on my phone. Am I right in thinking that FreeGS3 is more feature-filled with mods (like the custom notification toggles and Google Now), while Blazer is closer to stock?
Has anyone written (or YouTubed) a good comparison of the two?
Running blazers 1.7 rom. Seems kind of fast. What's the whole thing about "jelly bean" The anjmstions? I is that suppose to be like project butters improved frame rate? Sorry for my noobness.

Personally I prefer clarks. Why not just take it for a test drive, try it out for a few days and see what kind of mileage you get
Hello everyone,
first post since I got a Note 2... and I really like this phone... people seem to have a laugh at me since it is on a larger side, but then I have my own laughs when i see them trying to properly view web pages etc...
I have decided to go the custom Rom way, however, I would like some help.
I would like to have a decent ROM which gives good battery life and decent performance....my usage is pretty normal, email, Facebook, browsing, etc, not much games... so the ROM does not need to be performance oriented.
Any tips please on where to start... Tried searching here, but got a bit mixed up...
I like the stock looking TW Roms and would like Snote and the basic stuff such as calendar etc..
also which kernel would be suggested with this ROM.
Any help will be appreciated I know that I will have to try some ROMS to see which is best, however any help will save me a lot of flashing ROMS, kernels etc..... I know that usage is dependant on user patters etc, but some direction will be appreciated.
Many thanks to all...

You must have misunderstood me...
I want opinions on a custom rom (with all the benefits of a custom rom) that gives good battery life... not one which improves battery life...
been flashing many roms so far and all of them are good and yea battery life depends on your usage, before i use aosp rom specially slimbean, the only reason i use aosp because it doesn't have any lag for me, not for games but generaly everything. even i use stock and rooted samsung rom i got lag wheb browsing even just the settings when sliding it down and even the gallery and messaging, it's just a slight lag. but after trying omega v18 rom it doesn't have and im surprise coz i dont have to use aosp rom with some minor bug and now im happy using samsung custom rom with no lag and enjoying all stock features. so battery is not a problem really on our note 2 just pick whatever that gives better performance. but whatever it's your personal taste on what rom do you want.

cheers... will also try the ROM you mentioned... and thanks... it has to be a TW Rom ideally as i like the interface.... plus some of the samsung apps I use, so will to have those....
its normal to be concerned about battery life
amongst stock sammy roms the battery performance is also going downhill unfortunately, MG1 being the worst,
taking cue from tamirda i went for mf2 and the best one i feel was the chinese release, but it has chinese bloat and no play store,
its malaysian version is defintely one for keeps
me6 is also better than mg1
i like to root with cf auto -root and use xposed framework for customisation so i can stay on an odexed rom.....
tamirdas mf2 custom rom v13 will give a good combination of customisations, rooted deodexed experiences and battery life.
i wish someone would make a rom on the chinese mf2
i also love aosp and its looks and features but battery wise -- well im still testing with various kernel/rom combinations on 4.3
If you have a 7105. Then I'd recommend Jedi x17 with the newest saber kernel. Battery for me is better than stock. It also comes with nice eye candy and a lot of built in goodies.

I need some help choosing a new rom. This would be my first custom ROM on my GN2.
Currently in running 4.3 stock and it has terrible battery life and is slow. Stock 4.1.2 was actually way better.
What I'm looking for is:
- touchwiz features. I don't want to lose s-pen
- stable for DD usage
- good battery life. At least a day on moderate usage
- good performance. At least equivalent to stock 4.1.2 or better
- note 3 features would be nice but not a requirement
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks
You just need to test each and see what you like. Go see development thread and test some.
Touch wiz ones are MeanBean,sky note,ditto, stock 4.3 rooted,alliance

And no one will be running the phone the same way you do, ie: sames apps, same wireless use, same texting, on and on and on.

Research and see what best suits what you want. If you are looking for stability then a stock based rom would be best. If want more vanilla android the a CM based rom is best. Its all about what you want. I personally use the Jedi Roms cause I like the stock stability with the extras thrown in

Agree with all of the above.. Gotta test and see....
I am on Ditto Note 3 with Agni Kernel and it's smokin' hot! Blazing fast and great battery life.
But still you gotta test them out for yourself.
I would say MIUI, after testing many many ROMS which all in the end was quite a like i found MIUI roms to be devoted to appearance and (perhaps mere coincidence) better battery time.
This is really not a question others can answer for you, as eZ says, test and see, you will in the end find a sweetspot.
Miui= ijunk look/Crapple IMHO
What's best there's no best like all the previous posters told you.

Try out Ktoonsez kernel. It seems to be the go-to kernel for TW and AOSP ROMs on our S3s.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946
For governor; Ive had great success with OnDemand as well as Interactive. Good luck!
In the end, this is going to be much like the "whats the best rom" questions. Just like the roms, there is a ton of information about the most popular kernels that you will have to read in order to make an informed choice. Everyone has different needs/desires so just like roms, whats best for me or many other people may be opposite from what would be best for you. No one but you knows your usage patterns to base a decision on.
Regarding kernels and their governors, and other options, there is a lot to read and learn, which I do understand can be a bit intimidating. But if you really are after the best choice for your needs the only way to figure it out is to read, read, read. If you just follow what a few others recommend, theres a good chance you wont be getting what is best for you.
So in short, read each of the top kernels OP's, read up on the different governors, and pick one to test if it works as you expect. Try out several configurations to know for sure what you like the most.
If you have specific questions, by all means ask away! In fact, theres a thread in this subforum dedicated to ktoonsez' kernels, and even if you dont choose to use one, it could be a great place to search for more info. Just remember, other peoples opinions can give you a good place to start from, but will usually not be an ideal way to decide where you should end up.
I know this is not the answer you were looking for, but imo, there is just no way to adequately give one. For every kernel/rom combo, there will be some who rave about it and some who warn against it! Only one way to know which it will be for you!
SSL! I do wish you good luck though! And fun!

Doc is 100% right. That's like asking what the best breed of dog is.
