I dont really know what to title this, so ill try to explain the best i can. Whenever i hook my phone up to my PC, there seems to be 2 same yet separate storage. If i go straight into my internal, there are the normal Music, pictures, podcasts and those type folders, but then there is a golder named 0 and it has the same exact files but it seems like those are the ones my phone uses.
So to recap, my internal storage is copied into a subfolder of the normal files...Any clue as to what is going on? Im running Lifeless btw.
Here are the pictures of what im talking about. Notice the firsts contents, then the second. Nearly identical, yet i use the 2nd's files.
First picture is the normal folder, and the second is the subfolder.

Have you had AOSP before? I noticed that after moving back. If I helped don't forget to click the Thanks Button
That would explain it. Would it be bad to delete one of them?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
It has something to do with the fact that 4.2 can support multiple user logins users I believe. I'm sure there is someone that can explain this better than I. I deleted one of them without any real trouble, but if you go back to an AOSP ROM it will just create it again.
Does it matter which I delete? Should I just delete the one not being used?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Just move everything over to the "0" folder. When you reboot it'll create what it needs in the other/regular folder.

does any one know of a way to speed up media scanning of external_sd and usb storage upon reboots?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
in ROM toolbox app they have a tweak for that but ive never tried it to be honest but its located in the peformance tab when you open up the app and of course you must be rooted running a custom ROM
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Try sd booster or sd speed increase in the market. Raise value to 2048 and set on boot . It made a slight difference on mine when booting up.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
most the custom roms already increased the size of the cache for the sd cards...i might be wrong but from what ive read its the cache size that determines the speed ...but as someone posted earlier speed increase worked great when i had my evo...especially if ur on a stock rom

thats because the evo's was defaulted to like, 4. it helped SO much lol. i used the sd booster in rom toolbox on both my evo and e4gt and set it to 2048. worked GREAT on evo. but imho, the speed increase is only slightly noticeable on my e4gt. not so much that i swear by it like on my evo. but, i still run it lol
i'm not really speaking on speeding up the process itself, im more or less wondering if we can get it to trigger faster. upon a fresh flash its always fast, but as time goes by and more and more apps get installed it starts to initiate 20-40 seconds after phone is up and running and lock screen hss already been opened

Add a .nomedia file to folders of any files that you dont need scanned on boot up. I do this to my folders with all my Roms and kernels and anything else that I dont want scanned on boot. This will save a good bit of time if you have alot that it scans. Sorry just read your last comment and i am not sure on how to make it start sooner. I dont know if that is possible.

Weird thing I noticed after playing with that setting is SD card bench marking apps, the read and write speeds slowed down after raising the value.

Sure. Use a file explorer app like astro or es file explorer. Pick the folder u want to do it for. Open it up and create a new file. Name it
.nomedia so for instance if u did this on the root of your SD card nothing would get scanned (btw I don't advise that) hope that helps guys.

This sounds like a dumb question but I've never had this happen to me before. The other day I switched to Eugene's MIUI Patchrom. I was on it for about ten minutes when I realized I couldn't access my pictures. My gallery was showing a couple hundred when I have over 2000. I assumed it was the rom since it's not super stable. I restored my backup or Juggernaut and I just realized I can still not see my pictures. Surely they didn't get deleted, right? Please help because those pictures mean a lot to me. Thanks.

I don't know of any ROMS that will wipe the sdcard. Did you check the DCIM directory with root explorer or via USB from your PC?
Yeah I did. Like I said, the folders are still there with the names I gave them, they're just empty.

O well, have fun finding the pictures/ taking them again.
Besides the attributes getting changed by accident to hidden, I'd cough it up as a loss unless you can manage to do a file recovery program to scrape them off somehow

O&O Software makes a really good file/folder/partition recovery program. I'd imagine it would work on sd, but im not 100% sure.. It never hurts to check
That's always my biggest worry when switching to a new ROM, because all my videos and pics are of my kids for the most part.
I personally don't know the best way to get them back, and the position you are in really sucks. What I tend to do is backup all my photos and pictures to my external SD card (32gb, so I have the space). Also make a backup on my computer and make another backup through a cloud storage program of your choice, I am currently using Drive.
I know that is a bit of overkill, but again, they are pics and vids of my kids growing up so I want to be 100% certain they don't get lost.
Hopefully you are able to find those pics, if not, perhaps my suggestion will help you in the future. Peace.
Thanks for the help, those who actually suggested something. I used some app from the gay store and it was able to recover some of my pictures, but not all. I suppose I'll just have to be more careful and make backups in the future.

I seem to be having an issue which started just recently anytime I flash a new rom or nightly release of AOKP or CM10 all the content in my DCIM/Camera seems to be gone the content in the thumbnails folder is still there but the photos at completely all gone any ideas what could be causing this issue? Thank you in advance.
The photos are gone in your internal sdcard?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
well I just checked all images are gone... internal and external photos.. images..wallpapers... just gone very strange plugged into pc and I see some of the files there for the images and the file size but can't copy any of them and on the phone the folders are just empty
Maybe you could get lucky using a data recovery tool on your sdcard. There should be some free/trial ones on the net. You just gotta search em out.
As for why....no idea. Obviously it shouldn't be doing that! Maybe the updater-script does something like format data or something...though tgat diesnt make sense either....has anyone else in the rom thread reported this too?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Actually someone said that they had the same issue with AOSP roms and started using quickpic instead and solved the issue
I don't understand how an app could stop the files from getting deleted.

Indeed I mean my new pictures I'm taking seem to be staying but everything all of my 700 images and pictures are gone nothing left which is very strange how only all the image media got wiped on external and internal sd
I don't see why or how but is it possible they were somehow actually stored in the apps data/cache folder and just linked to the sdcard??
It seems far fetched but its the only real explanation I could come up with other than something being corrupt and not working as intended.....
That's an odd one man.
Have you looked into any data recovery tools? I've heard of some success with them dealing with flash media like sdcards.

What is changing to a new rom going to do for him? If his music is gone it's gone... Unless I'm missing something? Why isn't your music on your computer or somewhere else? How did you get it on your phone, lol? If it some where and you can't find it, pull everything from your storage places and put them on your PC and search both files with in your computer search index and see if you can find them... If they are there, then create a folder named /music and you will good to go. If they aren't there then get new music or however you got them there in the first place.

I would start putting the music somehwere other then only on phone storage, just in case. I've accidentally wiped internal storage once, and I've had External sdcards go bad or just randomly out of no where lose all data in it. make a dropbox and do TiBu once a week and move them there your self with some type of file manager if you don't wanna pay the money for Titanium Backup pro. I also bet all your stuff is there you are just looking in the wrong places. What file manager are you using to look for your "lost stuff"?

Aokp is awesome ROM. I dont mean to be rude but if you think those files are still there (in your phone) ;install different ROm or restore backup and pull al data from it. And wipe both internal and external cards. Amd install aokp and enter those files again via PC.

As the title mentiones, my device is out of memory. Like none. Even if I install a new rom the phone storage is still low cant even update all my apps because there's no space on my device. I tried apps to see whats taking up the huge space but there all worthless really cant delete from the app. Dont want to delete important files either so question is how can I get ride of all this crap the phone doesn't need?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
silly question, but once it was done calculating did you tap on one of the sections to see the individual files and there sizes? i was coming close to having this issue, until i went through each of those sections with a fine tooth comb. it was then i found piles of old downloaded files just stock piled....ended up clearing 3 gigs.
Let that screen sit for a minute to let the calculations finish. Then select a category (like miscellaneous). Then check which files you like to delete. The hidden thumbnail folder can get big, much like other app folders that cache info.

In my screenshot above, that 2+GB TWRP folder has only 1 backup of the data partition. Moving these backups to external SD can open a lot of internal storage space.
