Tv Remote, does the cable box not let you use the guide? - LG Optimus G Pro

I like the remote app, but I can't figure out how to use the guide on my directv menu. The blue button does a mini menu, but nothing else seems to pull it up. My dad's samsung s4 has an actual button that says "guide" on it and it works fine....WTH LG?...this is basic functionality stuff here. That just seems retarded that they wouldn't have included a way to view the channel guide. Am I just missing something?
I did find a directv app, that looks like it might work....but that amounts to having several remotes in the livingroom....irritating. ....just tried it and it does work, but it only controls the directv box...no volume...no input selector....no dvd.
Anyone have a solution or a better app that will work on all my devices? DVD, Directv box and Samsung TV?

I had the Samsung version of the TouchSquid app on my S4 and it was very feature rich, although kind of expensive! I'm not sure if the "guide" will work, but it has a 30 day money back guarantee. Here is the link for "other" android devices: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=remote.home.squid&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsInJlbW90ZS5ob21lLnNxdWlkIl0.

Thanks.
I prefer free offerings, but I may give that one a go.

I had to select "menu" then "menu" again on the following screen. It put me into my U-Verse STB menu where I could select "guide" on my TV with the navigation keys.
I know it's AT&T and not DirectTV, but who knows. Might work for you or others.

[Q] Bluetooth keyboard

I have been reading some of the reviews on amazon about some of these mini keyboards, and I'm still adjusting to the onscreen keyboard as I came from the D2 then the TP2 before that, so I would like to know what ones are compatible with android? Does anyone have one? Most people in the reviews say that they can't get them to work with android, so I don't want to waste 20-30-40 bucks just to find out its not compatible with our devices. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Curious about this too, if don't remember seeing anything about bluetooth keyboards working without some hacking.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I guess you and I must be the only ones who care about this.
No...I very much care about this, too. I just tried to pair my Thunderbolt with my Apple wireless keyboard and it did pair. Now, however, it says "paired and not connected" but when I click on the keyboard name it does not do anything. When I press and hold the keyboard name, my only option is to unpair. Not sure how to proceed...
Reading a lot of the reviews on amazon it seems to be a running theme that not all of the BT keyboards are compatible with android. Now, whether that is true or not, I don't know. I was hoping to find someone who has one and can provide some insight. Supposedly, according to the reviews, there are two different protocols for BT and only one(spp, if that makes sense?) works with android. That's the best info I have gathered, but this is strictly based off of reviewers, so I don't actually know anything. So I thought I would bring my question/problem to the smartest community on earth.
I will play around again with my Apple keyboard tonight and see if I can figure this out for you. And for me!
I'm interested as well. Like you, I haven't been able to find any hard info either, and don't want to waste money...
hello, I've been interested in this for a while now…*
here's the BT keyboard i'm considering:
Spider E-BTKB-B001 Black Bluetooth Wireless Ultra Slim Keyboard - seen on newegg ~ $40
although today I tried this app:
market.android.com - Remote Web Desktop
its wifi keyboard feature gets your foot in the door with real keyboard text entry…*haven't tested this for my use case - notes in audible bookmarks - but i look forward to the future development of this Remote Web Desktop application
oops, i can't include links yet
So, if I understood your post correctly, you have already received this and it does work correctly? Can you post some pics to show how big it is compared to the phone? Thanks for the post.

Can you provide the keyboard model that worked?

Intrigued, I would really like to know also. Is that the one for the Xoom?
I've got one of those no-name (actually a company called magic-pro) bluetooth keyboards, and I've tried every app/driver out there that I've been able to find to get the danged thing to work. So far the most useful thing on it is the laserpointer, it's a great cat toy. The bluetooth dongle does work pain-free with a Windows 7 machine, but that's not why I got the thing. Going to keep on trying new revisions, hopefully I'll hit something eventually that doesn't require rooting.

Allshare just works on the local network. Allshare Play registers you through the internet and connects with all devices registered always which I assume means always connected because the services are running always.
I prefer simply allshare as it keeps access to my device local to just my home network. Using allshare play gives a third party "Samsung" complete access to my device or registered devices anytime which I'm not really cool with. Just 2 cents from a member of the 1st tinfoil brigade =)
Edit: Oops I didn't answer your question. So to get Allshare Play devices to all see each other you actually have to register them using the Samsung Allshare website. Login to your account, ect ect... there's a demo to show you what to do on it.
it looks like DLNA/Allshare is integrated with the phone. To access other devices media, open either Gallery or VideoPlayer and access nearby devices. Other DLNA devices should show up.
I have a Tab 8.9 and S3.
On the Tab, in AllShare, under settings you should see the device name for the Tab as a media server. You can select which content you share. In the main window you should see a list of local devices, including My Device and, presumably your S3.
On your S3, in AllShare Play, use the menu button and select nearby devices. Your Tab should show up in the list.

Ian

Information on Samsung Galaxy S3 Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (Smart Bluetooth)

5. Say what? uhh i dont think so.
Unfortunately, there are no Bluetooth 4.0 (which Bluetooth LE is a part of) libraries built into android right now. In order to connect an android device to a Bluetooth 4.0 connection, you must do it for a specific device, and that device's manufacturer must have released a bluetooth 4.0 SDK. There is an open bluetooth low-energy SDK for Android

"I want my gb 6900 g-shock watch to pair with my GS3!!! UGH"
I am a app developer and I need Bluetooth 4.0 in order to develop hardware for my own phone. As of now i'm using Apples Iphone 5 " Samsung's Competitor" to develop my apps and Hardware. This does not look good on Samsung's part. I really hope this gets figured out. The Galaxy S3 is the top selling phone as of right now. It is also my favorite in terms of use but. The fact that they advertised 4.0 support this sucks!
I am with you on that bro. Got the gb 6900 on my wrist right now but no application to really take advantage of the ble. Just in case you dont know, you can always check that the SGS3 can see the GB 6900 using the "Bluetooth Smart Scanner" application tool found through play.
I also have a Moto Droid 4 which can natively see the watch using the Bluetooth page in settings but I am afriad I have to perhaps look into the developing my own app.

The nRF Utlility from Nordic, i couldnt even download from the Play Store because my phone is marked as "SAMSUNG-SGH-I747" which is at^t's SGS3. I wish there was a way i could download the .apk file from Play Store or even somewhere on the internet.
I am going to check if Nordic has put it on their developer site.
The application i mentioned only just discovers the Bluetooth 4.0 devices and doesnt connect to them. At the moment it is just good enough for proof that Samsung indeed has a Bluetooth Low Energy module in the SGS3.
If you can give me more info on your SGS3 such as network carrier, what rom and kernel you are using, perhaps i might be able to figure out why it is not working for you.

Hi! yes. You would first need to make sure you have the JB official ROM upgrade from at&t through Kies or rooted and unlocked bootloader SGS3 running JB. Unfortunately, there is no official app from Casio for SGS3 as G-Shock+ exists for iOS yet, but you can download nRF Utility from market and then use the watch as a proximity device.

have you tried to clear the bond between the casio gb6900 and nRF utility and Bluetooth smart scanner or other android apps? I believe you can do that by going to the setup screen on the watch and then keep the split.reset button pressed on the watch. What other apps other than Bluetooth Smart Scanner and nRF Utility have you found on android/for sgs3 that use BLE to connect?

I have yet to try the official G-Shock+ app for iOS. I try to stay away(physically and mentally) from any iOS device. You may be right on the on the "better connectivity " as i know Apple did screw up the Dual Mode Bluetooth chipset on the iPhone 4S...which they might have carried on with iPhone 5.
Yes, you would have to wait untill casio develops something or untill there is a API from Samsung for BLE development for Android. I think the latter one is more important as once there is a API, not only Casio can develop a full fledged app but also many individual developers. Samsung is the real sucker in this.
You hafto go into setup in watch menu then hit "start stop" twice then hold in reset. Then search for the watch again.

Well thanks for the effort. Many people before you have done that and got the same response. I dont know why Samsung is not at the top of the matter on this..especially if they really want to seal the deal for SGS3.
It could be that android/google is really pushing for NFC and not so much on BLE because iOS is pushing more on BLE and not so much on NFC.
I tell you these corporate battles just are hindrances to potential opportunity to many technologies and developers. Shame on them!

DoubleTwist?
I thought that DoubleTwist is only for receiving music from iTunes; not for sending music and video and such to remote devices. Or can that be done?
I'm also looking for something like this. I'd like to be able to send what I see on the display of my Android device or Linux notebook to my TV. In Apple land, that would be done with AirPlay -> http://www.apple.com/airplay/; "Mirroring" is what I'm after. I'm not looking for something which would allow me to send just a video or music file to my TV - DLNA works.
Can someone suggest a solution? Those AirPlay apps that I found in the Play Store only seem to be able to send music, .or at best also video files. Oh, and I'm also looking for an AirPlay "receiver" for Android, that I could put on some Android USB stick or such which I'd connect to my TV via HDMI.
Oh #2 - it doesn't HAVE to be AirPlay. Something else altogether would be fine as well, as long as it does what I "need".
Thanks,
Alexander

In Apple land, that would be done with AirPlay -> http://www.apple.com/airplay/; "Mirroring" is what I'm after. I'm not looking for something which would allow me to send just a video or music file to my TV - DLNA works.

Well then we can close this thread now because AirPlay mirroring isn't going to happen from your Android device. Hell the native Android solution to mirroring (Miracast) isn't even going to happen. That was just Googles way of saying "Look we had a half ass thought about it, now leave us the hell alone. No you cant have mirroring. Sincerly, Google."
You say you are familiar with DLNA and it works well for you, the end.

voice not working on air mouse T3 and shield tv

I've got two of two of these from two vendors. Both of them have mics. Everything works out of the box but the voice search. Anybody here with the same issue? Solution? Thank you.
FYI- Most of those t-3's and mx3's do not have the mic I would test it on another system .
I have bought about a dozen plus from ebay trying to find ones with mics that worked.. It was a no go.

I use one of these same remotes (possibly different vendor, lot of different versions on Amazon) with my Shield TV and am able to use the voice input and searching. Out of the box it was also not working as others described, but then I installed MKR (can be installed from the web version of the play store directly to the Shield. See link below) to map the keys on the remote and was able to get it to function perfectly. Can use the voice search just like the standalone Shield remote and gamepad. Plus you can configure every other button as well. Example, I have the Red button open Netflix, yellow button launches Plex, Green button Hulu, ect.. Remote is pretty damn awesome with the shield after mapping the buttons how I wanted. Give it a shot.
**I was unable to post the direct link, but just search for "Multilanguage Keymap Redefiner" on the Play Store.

Thanks for your reply.Voice on the remote is not a function that is assigned to a button. I'll give it a try but it is possible that your remote is more capable than mine.

On my version of the remote when you are prompted for voice input i have to hold down the mic button while i talk. For example if im on youtube and i go to the search section it will prompt me to say somthing then i hold down the mic button talk and then release the button.

Not to sure about the shield ir as i have the 1st gen. I have programmed the IR for my tv and sound bar.
I also recommend to remap buttons in android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
Alot of buttons on the remote are pointless and i never use so i have remapped them to quick launch apps red=youtube yellow=iplayer green=all4 blue=terrarium/kodi and i have also remapped the search button to bring up google assistant. You can also remap as long press our double tap. Thats what i did for the blue button press=terrarium long press=kodi.

i can guarantee that this control does not operate search by voice on the shield
what happens a lot of times is that staff speaks and the voice is captured by the shield's original controllers
there is no voice control t3 and yes the original control that is capting your voice
if you remove all original commands in shield settings you will see that the t3 voice command does not work
