[Q] Power button unresponsive with PA ROM plus other issues - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've had this problem with my Galaxy SII before and now experiencing it with my Galaxy Nexus GSM.
Basically what happens is whenever i decide to install a ROM onto my phone it always starts out fresh and fast but after a while, say a couple of days to a week, it ends up being unresponsive to touch (at times) and generally laggy. Recently, i've also noticed that my power button fails most of the time wether that be turning on and off my phone's screen. I've had to use the volume rocker instead to turn on the screen and use my phone.
Problems i can think of include:
Slow response to touch commands
Laggy app launches
Lag between screen swipes
Power button is unresponsive
Random restarts
fails to boot (constantly restarts)
My phone is running ParanoidAndriod 3.50 with Kernel version 3.0.31
Many thanks for your help in advance
*update* After exhausting the battery the phone now fails to turn on. The power button simply doesn't work yet works flawlessly running stock 4.2.2

I think i may of bricked my phone the phone fails to turn on now, even after a full charge. i can see the battery icon displayed while charging showing me its full.
any ideas?
cheers !

I had started another thread similar to this. I have the same problem. I rooted using the 2, 4, 1 method and all was fine. Then I started having the same problem you are experiencing. The power button would not turn the phone off and all screens are frozen. Only removing the battery works.
I have since booted into recovery (CWM) and fixed permissions and that appears to have solved the problem for now. If anything else comes up I will update my post.

[Q] URGENT HELP:Phone won't boot

I've had they Hercules for just over a year now but have only been using it for the past four months. I have only downloaded educational apps. However, yesterday i was not using it and came back to find it vibrating every 2-3 seconds. I removed the battery and left it out for an hour. When i replaced the battery, the phone began to reload but stopped during the boot, made a noise I've never heard before and began to vibrate as if going into recovery/download mode. I have been running ics for the past 4 months. The phone does not boot at all and is very frustrating . I have also tried charging it with no luck. Can anyone assist me with this problem??
sounds like you have the dreadful power button fail it gets a little jammed up try sticking a toothpick or something skinny in there and wiggle it a bit see if that works for you if not check if your still under warranty are you rooted or stock ICS?
u have a bad power button. try unsticking it.
Agreed. A friend had a similar issue and his power button was stuck.
I'm rooted and the warranty is up

Strange enough this just happened to me 10 minutes ago. I did manage to get the phone to boot after slapping the hell out if my power button which gave me the only means to get into recovery so now I can comment from experience. Ive been running pac for 3 weeks. Just yesterday my phone started doing really weird ****, dont know if it's just coincidence, calls would go through to random people, every time I clicked gallery I got a random reboot, I couldnt call voicemail, and trying to change wallpapers gave a reboot. Today I was changing a wallpaper and boom random reboot then began the loop and vibrating. A few things I noticed while this was happening, if I attempted to go into recovery the samsung splash screen appeared followed by the stock kernel splash( samsung and the blue bar at the bottom) which made me believe it wasnt the power button but indeed rom or kernel problem, also my led flashed once while going through the vibrate loop and I know the power button has nothing to do with that. I did manage to get pac to boot about 4 times by slapping the hell out of my power button but it went back to the loop after a few seconds so the next time I managed to get it to boot I held the power button and booted to recovery. Once I was able to get in to recovery I restored a liquid smooth back up. Ive powered the phone off and on with no problem. Now I'm just waiting to see what happens through out the day. I was running pac with cerux when this happened. I truly believe this is not a hardware problem at all until I get it again with another set up. If you need help I getting your phone to boot I could possibly be of assistance so pm me unless you want to keep getting responses from people who haven't experienced this at all. This was the single most scariest experience Ive had since I ve been flashing, even worse than my brick because I knew I bricked immediately.

[HELP] Screen off, vibrating continuously

Hi,
My phone has been working fine since I did S-off and installed a LeeDroid 2.3 ROM a year ago. This wednesday I had to install another ROM because of boot loop problems with the previous one. I used VJ CM10.1 v5.3 which worked amazing for almost 2 days. Yesterday at night while the phone was charging I couldn't unblock it (black screen) and the orange led kept light event without usb cable. I removed the battery and since then the phone only vibrates continuously when I turn it on. Even without battery if I use an USB cable it starts vibrating inmediatly, of course with any screen response (in the dark you can see a very light attempt to start the screen but nothing else). The PC don't detect anything when I plug it and I can't use any key combination to get to Recovery.
I wasn't doing anything dangerous, only charging but the ROM was only 2 days old. Does anybody now what is happening or how could I fix it? Sorry if It has been responsed but I think not (It's no the 7 vibrations problem).
I can provide more information if needed. Thanks a lot.
Take out the battery, hold the power button for 10 seconds, then try to boot.

Same result. It only vibrates. I'm considering hardware fault (is 2 years and half old) but as I changed the ROM this week seems to be somewhat related.
Before we come to a conclusion, let's try all the stuff we can.
Does the phone boot in hboot?
No, all key combinations apparently have the same result.
The last thing i'd like you to try is putting your phone in the freezer with the battery taken out. Who knows, maybe it will boot afterwards.
If not, then send it to a service.
Thanks a lot, I will try. By the way, I've started saving money to buy the Nexus 4

[Q] Anyone experiencing powering off and troubles switching it back on (charged)?

Hello guys,
I tried to search for a similar issues but I couldn't find anything similar so please bear with me.
My KF sometimes shuts down overnight. In the morning then I have troubles to switching it on again (clicking the power button, holding it for longer periods of time...). It usually helps for the tablet being connected to the charger, but it takes a few tries to turn it on. After I managed to turn it on again, for example yesterday, it had 80% of battery left.
I am using CM nighties and this is happening already for some time.
I am also using juice defender, I am not sure if that is relevant.
Do you have any suggestion, what could be the cause of this? Maybe a suggested alternative rom? Or some logs I can check? I think the powering on troubles bother me more than the shutting off overnight since I always think it won't come back on anymore.
Also, not sure if relevant. If I try to turn it on and it doesn't, sometimes the button flashes orange. After a few tries it turns green and powers on. Not sure if I am now not only confusing times, when it was simply out of juice.
P.S. On a different note, just curious, does anyone know how if there is a rom with working mic already?
Thanks in advance.
jkb
Yes, I sometimes have the same issue with the power button - in fact it happened to me this morning where I went from about 60% charge to 16% with a sudden power drop.
Not sure why this happens. I thought it was a bad battery so I changed it but am still getting the problem every now and then.

the only thing that i can think of is that during the middle of the night a soft-reboot happens and it cant boot back up into the system. this would cause it to sit there and continually try to boot up. this would use a lot of cpu and a lot of power. as for why that drains battery while being plugged in, well i cant help you on that.
Thanks for the input. I've wiped dalvik, cache and the system and installed hashcodes AOSP Jelly Bean (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2041694) and at least it survived this night without shutting down so maybe this helped. If I come across the same issue, I will update this thread with new info.
Thanks again,
jkb

Sounds like a hardware issue, and Amazon has been replacing those of customers who buy new from them.
Mine has this issue too. I KNOW it has battery power, and is still on, but the screen won't turn on. Only solution is to plug in power, then hold down the power button until it shuts down hard. Then turn back on.
I'm returning mine because of it.
Thanks for the info. I am still hoping this is a software issue.Regrettably I am outside o the US and thus replacing it is nearly impossible. I will see, if the issue returns with the new rom and will update the thread if it happens again, just for your information.

Try going to the WiFi settings and selecting 'never' for keeping WiFi on during sleep. This seemed to work for me.... So far it hasn't happened again.

I think this is the bug I am experiencing:
Shutdown bug stalls out the shutdown. Looks like the device is off, but it's still powered draining battery. Currently requires long power button press to fully shutdown after the screen is black (about 15-20 seconds).
from the 3.4 kernel thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2264563). I am not sure if cm 10.1 nighties contain this kernel, but the description is pretty much spot on.I couldn't test the fix (holding the button for 15-20 seconds), since I already changed roms, but if someone experiences the issue again, he can post if this works and which rom and kernel they are using.
This happens to my Kindle Fire device as well. It just randomly shuts off and it won't come back on until I do a hard shutdown then turn it back on. I currently have AOSP Jelly Bean 4.2.2_r1 on it.

Yes, it happened again to me with the same ROM, but it happens less often. I will try the updated kernel once it is finished.
On May 27, 2013, Hashcode listed the known issues of the current kernel on his website:
Sound / MIC debugging
Deep sleep issues with “omapdss_dpi” device
SmartReflex shutdown loop fix.
Charging driver / OTG improvrments

[Q] Nexus 7 Lit Black Screen when Trying to Awake

Hey,
I have been experiencing a bit of weird bug with my Nexus 7 2013. Basically, when I go to use my Nexus after it has been idling for a little while, it will often be on when I open the tablet from its case. However, it does not display any typical Android elements but shows only a lit black screen...I have to hard reset it to get it back to normal function...
Any ideas? Very perplexed....I have tried different kernels and factory reset several times.
--Android 4.4.4 (Rooted)
--Kernal: Faux Kernel 22u/Franco R17
One thing to note: I can replicate the behavior by quickly pressing the power button several times. It goes right into the 'lit black screen' and needs to be reset.
Thank you!

I have the same problem with my nexus 7 2013. It happens very often. When the screen was turned off for a while, it won't react to anything and the screen stays black, but the notification led is still active. The only thing that helps is pushing the power button very long. Then the Google logo shows up and it boots up normally. The tablet is on original Android 4.4.4 not rooted.
I will ask for an exchange in the next couple days.

Great haha. I know that I am not the only person with this problem now ...So you think it is hardware related and not software?
If so, UGH! I've already had to sent this POS in twice now .
