hello guys and gals,
i have a little problem. my s2 power button recently broke, and after an unsuccessful attempt on fixing the matter, the company provided me with a simple work around solution which is to software remap the power button to one of the volume buttons.
but here comes the problem, me being careless, upon receiving the phone, i was too anxious and proceed to upgrade to stock jellybean 4.1.2. thus wiping the software remap. so i am stuck with a phone with no power button, unrooted and dont know what to do.
i did ODIN clockwork recovery mod on the phone but since i dont have a power button, i was unable to boot into recovery to install superuser and root the phone. the plan was to root the phone and install one of the roms and ask the developers on how to remap the keys in the rom.
also i am wondering if it is possible to ODIN a custom rom with UVLE1 radio in it so i can unlock it via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024514
but it seems like i have it backwards, in order to install custom rom and i would need to get my device rooted first.
i am stuck in a pickle that i have created for my self. so any ideas and suggestions would help. thanks guys and gals!

Hello,
I recently got a brand new DHD from T Mobile UK. Naturally, I wanted to get rid of the bloatware that came with it. To cut the long story short, I tried to install the cyanogenmod software and ended up bricking my phone. At first it would not get past the cyanogenmod start up screen (spinning smoke thing). Now it will not boot past the T Mobile logo.
I am desperate and any solution to give me back ANY funstionality of the phone would e great.
Kind Regards.
Sena.
Can you get into the bootloader? Try turning it off, then holding the power button and volume down - I think the easiest method is to hold volume down, press the power button for a few seconds (still holding volume), then let the power button go and after that the volume button. Seems to get me into the bootloader reliably.
If you can get into the bootloader, you should be able to flash back to the stock rom by placing a file on the SD card - not certain of the exact method there but someone will know
I wouldn't worry too much unless you were flashing the bootloader (hboot) to get s-off - as I understand it, the only real way to brick these devices is if you corrupt the bootloader.
What exactly did you do? I agree with the previous poster that you probably did not brick your phone you just need to get into the bootloader and flash a backup, if you made one. Also what ClockworkMod Recovery are you using. I know that if you flashed with 3.xxx you will need to flash an older version of CWM something like 2.xxx
If you give us more info we could prob help more

Also try taking the battery out first.

If you have cwm / rom manager install to your phone just turn off your phone and charge it now you are in recovery state you can flash rom again or restore backups
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
well i rooted my inspire, and i had a custom rom installed, but my friend got ahold of the phone and factory data reset it, and now it doesnt seem to be rooted and i cant flash a stock rom, anyone have any idea on how to fix it?
After 'restore', are you back to stock ROM? It is very unlikely. But if you are, then re-root and play with it.
I believe that if you factory restore from a custom ROM, your phone can only be used in recovery, everything else is lost. But I may be wrong.
For DHD, we power off the phone (take the battery out) and then while holding down the Vol- button, we keep the power button pressed will the Recovery menu appears.
For more help, please switch to the thread/forum of your phone model.
Or you can install official RUU via PC.
so i will start with the main problem of the phone
the down volume is not working.
so i rooted the phone, flash recovery, and flashed rootbox rom
but the rom isnt going up and stuck on the animation screen
but now i cant go inside the recovery since if want to do it via the toolbox so i need the phone to be on,
and i cant do it the normal way- down+power because the down volume isnt working
its really important please help??
Help someone???
It's really important
I believe you have two solutions, to fix the volume key or to buy a jig. As I don't believe there is another way to boot into any of the helpful modes (recovery, bootloader, odin) without adb, a working OS, or the volume key(s).
I have a rooted I747 with an android 4.3 rom. The LCD is broken and I am looking to sell it as is. I am wondering if it is possible to factory reset the device with a PC (possibly with kies, odin, or adb). I have seen a kies tutorial but it bricks devices running android 4.3. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

If the phone still has a stock recovery you can boot into it and factory reset the device. Getting into stock recovery and using it is all done with the volume rocker and power buttons, so the broken screen won't be a problem.

Thanks, I've found that method elsewhere;
Enter recovery by holding the volume up, home button and power button simultaneously while booting. Wait 20 seconds after first vibration. After 20 seconds push the volume down button three times, then press the power button, wait for vibration and reset should be complete.
I am still somewhat curious to know if it is possible to do it remotely with a PC.
Best method I can think of from a PC would be flash this with Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52341560&postcount=227
Only flash that if you're sure you were on stock 4.3 with MJB firmware, or you'll brick. Did you have ADB enabled before the screen broke? It would give you a method to check firmware without the screen.
Sorry about the post above. You said broken LCD, but I heard broken digitizer. I thought you could still see what you were doing. I still think stock recovery could work in a pinch; just find a Youtube video and mimic it. Sounds like you've already got the button presses down. Good luck
Hi Guys
I am writing here because I fighting with little problem (or maybe not so little if I write here) but back to case.
I got this phone GT-i8160. With stocked rom, and path for 648 ram, but i can't find a way to root it. I know for now that just look like veryyy dump question, but my main problem is that Power button don't work, so a lot of menus to boot is just unusable for me because they need boot option. I am looking for now a way to make this phone root by Odin or somethink like that. I try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881964, but still unluck. If anyone have any ideas how to root without power button please give me a sign, and btw What rom is the fastest for that phone ? Stocked one ?

You can't use the power button at all? or is it temperamental?
The stock ROM is actually decent for most people but the only drawback is the partition style as you'll need a custom ROM to run a different partition layout as the Stock ROM needs the layout that it has.
I've never seen any way to root i8160 via Odin in the past 2 years, as we've already got a flashable zip method that doesn't trip the flash counter, and a custom recovery flashable zip that even works in the stock recovery!
I can maybe help if you can sideload zip files to recovery.
Power button is broken, not signal, not sign, not anything, Dead.
I would like to try your ideas, but I don't know anything about this "sideload". Could you describe this method little more ?
Download mode

Can you get into download or recovery mode by doing this:
1) Power off and remove phone and the back cover
2) Remove the battery
3) Hold down volume down (for download mode) or volume up (for recovery) and the home button
4) Re-insert the battery
5) Plug in a charger cable
This should work as plugging in the charger mimics the power button for key combinations while off.
If any of these work, select the 'reboot' or 'restart option'
If they don't then you may need to buy a new phone!
