Hi 2 all!
Before somebody claims - I read and searched the threads but I was not able to flash a new rom.
My envoirment:
Win 7 X86
HTC Desire (rooted)
8 GB Memory Card (I copied the new rom in the root directory and named it update.zip)
I tried rom manager (the non-paid version):
I don't know which menu (after my device rebooted) should I take?
applying sdcard update.zip?? (I selected this, bus no new rom..)
I also tried the fake flash method:
Error Message: signature verification failed.
Now, please can anyone tell me how to flash to a new rom?
br,
Chris
Edit: Solved: The zip file was corrupt
Is your handset branded? What rom are you trying to flash. Have you rooted your device? Because it needs to be rooted to flash 99% of the roms available here.
..no, its not branded; its also rooted.
So what rom are you trying to flash? You should be able to flash one if your handset is rooted.
If you use fake flash don't rename it but put it on your sd card root. Then in the menu go to flash zip from sd then choose the rom. Just before you flash make sure to select wipe data, cache etc.
why did u rename the rom?...once in the custom recovery it should not matter what the rom is called...from the menu u just select flash zip from SD then select the rom from the list

...somewhere I read to rename the rom the update.zip.
Now I am following this link: http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-desire/
I am trying the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705606
Will whipe date/whipe cache clear my memory card?
Will any other action clear my memory card?
br,
Chris
Ok so that rom should be fine. Do not rename it.
Wiping cache/data etc will only wipe data form the handset. All your memory card will be still intact. Only repartitioning the card will wipe it so back up any data first if you ever plan on doing that.
If the error is signature verification failed, re-sign the ROM.

hi
I just flashed to cyanogenmod7.
Deciding that I want another ROM instead, I downloaded leedroid and copied it to my sdcard.
Going into recovery, I chose
apply zip from sdcard'.. but recovery tells me that there are no files on the card.
I booted up, went to filemanager, and my files were there no problem.
I tried clicking the new ROM and it recognized it as a ROM and asked my to reboot into recovery to continue..
I did, and got the same result. recovery won't recognize the card? or at least it won't recognize any files or folders??
What could be the cause? and more importantly, what can I do to fix this?
If you apply a zip from sdcard it must be named update.zip
You can also choose "Install zip from sd" and manually search it
hi
yes, I realise that, but since it cannot find any files on the sdcard, I cannot do any flashing nor any updating.
But I did manage to fix this by using an sdcard formatter on the PC.

You should add a [SOLVED] to topic's heading, so everybody knows this problem is solved.
I've installed CWM via ODIN and it seems to be working fine. I've done a nandroid backup from CWM and that went fine.
Problem is I cannot install the Super User Zip file. I can find it just fine, I select it, it seems to be unpacking the zip (I see it Mounting, deleting, deleting, setting permissions, creating System:xbin/su Symbolic link... then
E:Error in /sdcard/su.zip
(Status 0)
Installation Aborted
I've tried with the original name of the zip and read here that shortening it may solve the problem. I get the same results either way.
Any Help?
I've tried from the internal storage also. Same deal.
Can I drag the SU.zip file to the SD card from Window's Explorer? or do I have to use Kies?
When I try to use Kies to copy the file to the SD card it tells me the name is already in use. Regardless of what I name the .zip file I get the same message.
Please Advise
same
i had the same prob as u. go here and install the rom thru cwm...you will get everything.

Make sure you have made a backup 1st or it will not work. 2nd make sure you wipe cache/davlik cache too.
in CWR just go into advanced
and select the option to Fix Permission
Wiped Caches (Cache?) and fixed permissions. Worked great!
Thanks y'all
I think I might have wasted all this effort anyway. I think If I flash the ROM to Eagles Blood or some other that image will include the application I'm trying to install anyway. I thought Installing SU was part of the rooting process.
oops.
help me too
@pairustwo: how did u fix permissions?
Hello all,
First try at rooting my DINC to try and make it more livable before upgrading (gingerbread OTA update SUCKS!)
I should start that I am rooted, just have not tried loading a ROM yet.
Looked at the Ice Cream Senseless and liked it. Downloaded the .zip and put it on the phones SD card. Followed these instructions:
1. Power off the phone and boot into Recovery mode
2. Now Select Wipe Data/Factory reset from the main menu, and on the next screen select Yes-wipe data
3. Now scroll to Wipe Cache Partition and select it. On the next screen Select Yes-wipe cache.
4. Now on the main menu, click Advanced, and then Select Wipe Dalvik cache. On the next screen, Select Yes-Wipe Dalvik
5. Now that you have completed the full wipe, scroll to ‘Install zip from SD card‘
6. Then Select Choose zip from sd card and navigate to the ‘IceCream_Senseless_v1.0.zip‘ file you transferred to the sd card.
The phone spends about 5 seconds trying to load the ROM, then says "loading update; update failed; installation aborted"
Tried to see if it worked at all and rebooted the phone into a boot loop. Had to flash the recovery and go back to what I had.
Did I miss a step? I looked through the thread for this ROM and didn't see anyone else with this issue that downloaded from the same spot.
Much appriciated!!
If you get that error its probably a bad download and the flash failed as well. Try downloading again. If the OP of the ROM page has an md5 then compare the md5 of the ROM you downloaded to the OP's.

What tiny said, I hope you made a nandroid or at least have one to restore to in case this doesn't work!
I did at least have a backup to restore too, so I wasn't totally lost!
What is an md5? What should I look for to make sure that the ROM is good?

I don't know exactly how to define an MD5 sum but it is a long string of characters that is unique for every file. It wouldn't be to check that the ROM is good, so much as to check that your file is good. If you had a bad download that corrupted a part of the .zip file or something during the transfer to your sd went wrong that corrupted part of the .zip then it will output a different MD5 than the one that would be provided by the developer. that is why it is wise to always check your MD5 Sums from your phone before flashing them. This is especially important with things that you would be flashing through hboot because you can permanently damage your phone by flashing a bad file, just one time. However, it is still wise to check MD5 sums on ROMs because after a long time of flashing bad files you can corrupt your phone's file system and that would be less than ideal as well. There are several MD5 checkers in the google play store but I like the one by Fabien Thalgott because it allows you to compare two files or compare one file to a sum that you copied from the internet or a sum file.
For the case of this ROM, I found a link to v1.3 which i would guess would be a newer version than 1.1.1 but if you see here
http://d-h.st/4scnusnddy2u/signed_IceCream_Sense_v1.3.zip
Dev Host provides you with the MD5 sum: d382a06889f856eb4256e3239eec9318
so that is the number you should compare with on your phone before flashing
I got the above link from this thread, just so you know:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359264
As for v1.1.1 I found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478349
With this link to the ROM on devhost
http://d-h.st/zBw
and this MD5 sum

Best of luck!
hello, I've got a problem with flashing custom rom (4.4 beanstalk one) on my gs3 i747
TWRP keeps saying failed to open .zip file.
Now I havent tried other ROMs and maybe my guess could be a bad download
Any help would be appreciated
P.S. I also used TWRP manager to try to install zip directly but it does not show my sdcard, only the internal memory
