I've been searching, reading, and aging questions for a week and I just can't seen to find the answers I'm looking for. Everyone I've spoken to has tried to help, but still, I'm a little lost.
I'm running RhythmicRom in my one v and I really want to add sound to the bit animation. I've read a few threads about making them, and one involves installing a script. I'm willing to attempt it this way but I don't understand the script. I don't believe it's standard copy and paste. Being inexperienced in scripts, I asked for some help 3or4 days ago in that forum, but I still haven't received a reply.
I'd like to think it's as simple as renaming an mp3 clip to bootsound. Mp3, and dropping it into system/media, but i can't get confirmation. Can anyone help me out here?

ok so im trying to figure out how to edit the htc clock widget to open a different clock like desk clock. can this be done?
def's uncommon rom is the only one that i know of that does it. good luck getting him to tell you how. def is one of my favorite dev, i'm not calling him out. all the dev keep there findings to them selves really.
question... how come people don't share there tweeks and hacks anymore?
i remember full threads on reg edits, tweeks, and hacks, that people would share with the world. I actually had threads where i would take requests, and cab them up for people to be able to install easily.
big difference between the WM day to the current droid days.

That is a very ****-headed thing to say. I am MORE than willing to help anyone out with reproducing ANY of my mods. I keep nothing secret, and I literally JUST replied to the OP's PM, just before reading your completely asinine comment. My PM box is FULL of questions AND answers with guidance on duplicating mods. Truth be told, I do not POST these modifications and how-to in their own threads for one reason only. I do not have the time to support them.
ok so i can find where the activity is and change it but when i push to the phone nothing changes...

Def, I was not trying to be a **** head and don't see that my post directed anything negative towards you. I was iust stating that a few years ago, members in the Windows mobile forums shared everything. Infact, there were http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/windows-mobile-hacks-tweaks/ forums just for regedits and hacks. I don't find that on the 2010 Android forums.
I didnt mention the guy who posted a zip file that was able to put the 6 bar signal meter in the task bar. He clearly stated that he pulled it out of your Rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8758884&postcount=22 Then your reply saying something about you not liking what he did. To me that said the Android developers didn't want the secret out of the bag. It's not just you. I have ran quite a few roms and really liked certain parts, but didn't keep it for the fact that I didn't like other parts. I have searched for ways to get just the good hacks and tweeks, but there just not there.
For the record..... I am sorry Def. I was not saying that your bad for not posting everything you do. I was just trying to say that there's a good chance he will not get the information he seeks. That's just the way Android forums are going these days.
here is a couple thing i would like to add to my roms, but cant find information on them. correct me if i'm wrong, but people just dont share this stuff.
1. 6 bar signal
2. htc clock widget launching vanilla clock
3. app drawer 5 icons wide,
4. battery percentage in battery icon
yes, def's roms have all of these. that is why i run his rom. at least until he bans me from his roms due to this thread.

Well I would like to say he got me started and I found where the attribute is for opening world clock and I have changed it to deskclock but I think I'm doing something wrong with the apk tool because when I push it to the phone and launch it still opens world clock but in the files its self it says deskclock. I wish I knew more about the Android language but sadly I don't and I'm going to keep trying.

i am am really glad to see people like def who is trying to help others instead of just posting there roms.
I am 38 years old, married with 4 kids. i have been on the forums for a long time and know what and how they work. i was not trying to start anything, i love helping people and learning. that is why i like the forums.
i have made 2 apps for windows mobile and never thought of charging for them. one of the apps had over 20,000 downloads. my favorite thing to do was help people learn to make there own.
back on topic....
i would really like to have a zip to flash this htc clock mod. it is one of my favorite parts of def's uncommon rom. i dont have the time anymore to learn a lot of coding. at least i don't think so. kind of new to android so i dont know if it's easy or not. flashing zip files is easy. lol.
^ That would be pretty sweet! Wish everything was easy as flashing a zip.

I've searched and searched and searched and can't find this info. anywhere. I found lots of post where people say they have fixed wimax in their ports, but of course they never share how. I assume that all the dev help was done in PM. All the PMing of dev info. around here makes it very hard to search for help or "how tos" on issues. I'm hoping that someone will be willing to take the time to help me out here.
I've been working on a Speedy port. I know it's old software at this point, but since this is my first port, I figured I'd start out with something easier than 3.5.
Because Speedy is a Sprint phone and naturally has 4g capability, I assume that all the needed files are already in there. I further assume that I must just need to edit the correct file/files in order to get it to work on an EVO. Just for ****es and giggles I've replaced all the Speedy wimax files with Supersonic wimax files, but still a no go.
These are all the files I've switched out so far:
From system/bin:
dhcpcd
sequansd
setWiMAXPropDaemond
getWiMaxPropDeamond
wimax_mtd
wimax_uart
wimaxAddRoute
wimaxConfigInterface
wimaxDhcpRelease
wimaxDhcpRenew
wimaxDumpKmsg
wimaxDumpLastKmsg
wimaxDumpLogcat
from system/etc:
the entire "wimax" directory
from system/lib/modules:
sequans_sdio.ko
wimaxdbg.ko
wimaxuart.ko
I think that's all of them. I read somewhere that it involves changing some code in a few files, but of course, again, they didn't mention which files to look at to make these changes.
Can anyone tell me where I should be looking? I've done lots and lots of comparisons on different files between my ROM and a couple other ROMs that have wimax working, but I'm just missing it somewhere.
I don't think I need someone to explain it detail, I just need someone to tell me where exactly I should be looking.
Many thanks in advance for anyone will to help me out on this.
Alot more to it then the files. Alot of its hardcoded into framework and jar files. If it was easy enough it would be done. A few of us have been trying to get into 3.5 but no luck has really been made yet. In time we will figure it out.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Yes, I realize that it's a lot more than just replacing files. I only mentioned that because I assumed somebody was going to mention those files. I could also list everything else I've looked into, but I figured I probably wouldn't get any help anyway so why bother.
I'm not a noob to this. As I stated I'm working on a speedy port in which most everything works except for 4g. That in and of itself should be enough to show that I would at least realize it's not going to be as easy as replacing files. I've had to open things like framework.jar many times and mess with smalis and what not. This why I didn't ask for a detailed explanantion but more of a where should I start looking.
As stated, I'm not using Sense 3.5 at the moment, but Sense 2.1. There are many 2.1 ROMs with working 4g, so the answer has already been discovered. It's not in any public forums or anything that I can find.
If I need to post a link to my ROM here so that someone will take me seriously, I'd be more than happy to.
Sorry I wasted your time then by answering your question.

What is with all these people getting pissy when people answer questions? You asked. You got answer. No need to try and artfully flame someone.
Boo
If you're talking to me, there was nothing remotely close to an answer to be found in his reply.
WIMAX incorporation
Couldnt this be done by downloading the source from HTCDEV and just porting over the wimax driver?
I am trying my hand at flashing to other carriers and I am so lost and stuck. I spent the last 4 hours searching all over the place and have yet to find an answer so.
I am wondering if anyone can help me with this problem. I am try to put my Sprint Epic 4g touch onto Boost mobile. I am using a ZTE Warp to accomplish this.
I am so I pretty much understand what needs to be done but, I am stuck in a place where I cannot retrieve 2 NV files. I am trying to read and save 466 and 1192
IN cdma workshop it shows that it reads but when i go to open the files and look at it inside the .txt file its says just for those two files access denied. I can open the two files and browse the contents ok enough. But there is no hexadeximal numbers in there. I would post what they look like but I am not sure if that is against the rules. But I would be so eternally grateful if anyone who knows about this could teach me a way or show me a way to access these two files so that I can get this phone working.
To summarize :
1.) Epic Touch 4g to Boost
2.) Stuck on the part where I grab the NV files from the other phone I own.
3.) My other phone is a Zte Warp
4.) The files I need seem to be locked and unreadable
5.) Looking for some expert advice on how to accomplish getting those files because I have searched under all the rocks I know of.
I don't like asking for help unless I have knocked down all of my doors. But I am out of options at this point and my brain is about to explode.
6.)Thankyou in advanced.
Wrong forum. Click the triangle with the ! in it in the top right hand corner of your post to report it to mods, and ask them to move your thread here. You're more likely to get the help you need there.
Neither of those phones is a gti9100... wrong forum?

That is the exact walkthrough I am following. It's fairly simple to follow and easy to understand. But, unlike in that tut, I am not using the incognito I am attempting to use the warp and I am running into problems getting two of the NV files mentioned. Both of the files I am refering to have access denied as the output. So I am basically stuck until I can afford to purchase the exact phone used in the tut or someone smarter than myself decides to help me out a little.
But I will say this. Getting stuck like this has taught me soooooo much so thankyou guys for all of the wonderful posts and guides you write. It is people like this that keep the world turning

THANKS to you I was able to figure it out. I dont know your name on here to give you proper credits but thanks man you are awesome!
Hey everyone, I have a couple of questions. First off as you can see from my post count I'm a lurker. I can remove/install ROMs, the basics, but never have I tried to add/remove apps or functions to one. So I've found a ROM I love, but it was designed with inactive phones in mind, to make them into second life usable music/video players. It has no phone functionality because of this. The one I'm interested in is by frickinjerms - Ubersonic - I hope I can modify others work for my personal use. Guess that should be a question too.
Would it be ok to add in phone functionality or would it be easier to find one with that already and just remove the fluff I don't want and add what I do?
As I understand it, I can just add it back in, but I'm unsure what files go back in. Is there a resource that outlines that anywhere, or can anyone throw me a bone?
Is it ok to modify the work of others for your personal use without asking, or should you seek approval first out of proper etiquette?
I've been searching through XDA and other sites looking for some basic beginners stuff for cooking up ROMs, but have only come across limited collections. I'm toying with dsixda's Android Kitchen right now, but would love to find other resources. So any pointers to learning resources would be great too.
Thanks!
For the last one, I personally believe that its not necessary to ask before modifying a rom thats for your personal use because only you will know about it anyway, and people do it all the time
You only need to ask for permission if you're reposting your personal version of someone elses rom

I figured that was likely the case I just wanted to clarify it for myself. I know people put in a lot of work on some of their ROMs and don't want to step on toes.
Thanks for the response.
You know you could use a rom that does have phone functionality. Just throwing that out there.

Whats the point of flavors if you're forced to pick the one you don't like? Just throwing that out there.
I don't think my questions were unreasonable either. I'm not asking for someone to build me something, I'm asking for the fishing pole, not the fish.
Hello
How do you set up a custom alarm tone for Jelly Bean 4.2?
....seriously please stop creating a new thread for everything that is going on with your phone, you have post so many new threads in the past few hours that could have either been handled by searching or just just trying things out.
now i get it that what may intuitive to some may be hard for others but a quick little post in the roms thread would suffice "hey just flashed this rom, seems great, just having an issue adding a custom alarm! an help?"
not trying to be a **** but you really need to pause and think, does this qualify for a new thread? am i creating clutter, is there a better way to ask/find out for my self?

Hello there I completely understand where you are coming from, but let us remember that we are here to help one another, although I know your intentions are only to notify and inform the OP of his/her actions. I know it's kind of hard to believe that the OP, despite their numerous posts, have yet to pick up on it, but hey, what can we do? Show them the proper path.
To the OP: Hello there, to answer your question, you will need to create a certain file path and place the mp3 in a certain folder. The folder pathway(is this correct?) is /sdcard/media/audio/alarms. You should put the MP3 file in that respective folder. If your SD card does not have that path, create it. You can also try putting the mp3 in the "Alarms" folder, although I've heard it doesn't always work and for the file to show up in the alarm sound selection, you need to reboot the device.
On a serious note OP, before deciding on posting a new thread, try searching within Google first, then XDA if it boils down to a certain ROM. Your question is pertaining to Jelly Bean, not Flinny's ROM or Andromadus (catch my drift?) I know it might seem tedious at first, but please search first. I hope this helps.
