Google Text forwarding to SGIV - Inconsistent - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Friends,
I use google voice for text and forwarding to my SGIV phone.
When I forward a text from GV to SGIV phone, the recipients number does not match
my contact list. It displays that the person as a obscure number in no relation to my
phone contacts.
Has anyone experienced this? I did read up with google that this is a problem in their faqs.
Would there be a way around this so my texts match my contact list?
Please advise and Thank You,
tvos

That's normal. Depending on your sms app you may see the contacts name in parentheses. If you call from the sms it'll call the right number.

It's the bridge number that Google voice uses... Annoying but at least with the S4 if you're using GV to make outbound calls the called number appears correctly in the call logs. On the S3 the call logs also showed the bridge number.
Someday maybe they'll fix that as well.

Is there a sms/mms app that can be used with google voice (besides built in gv one)?

I changed my real number today and am still in the process of trying to get everything connected to the google voice number.
Here's the situation,
I would like to use the vanilla mms app in cyanogen 6 for sending and receiving texts. I've been testing and haven't figured out how to do it yet. With the mms app, I can send a text to the gv number and when I receive it, the from number is the gv number. I have conditional call forwarding from my real number to gv and nobody has my real number. I have the phone set up to use gv for all outgoing calls. If I send a text with the vanilla app to my real number, the from field, when I receive it, shows my real number.
I've tried looking on the market for a replacement mms app that is compatible with gv and I can't find any. There doesn't seem to be a setting to set the mms apps outgoing number to a different number. I would like to use the vanilla mms app to send texts to people but when they receive it, it's showing my gv number in the from field. I know I could use the gv app for mms, but I prefer the vanilla one.
Anyone have any suggestions ?
Thanks

Google Voice

I have the option to pick 10 friends which I can call without burning up my minutes with Verizon. I wonder what would happen if I put my google voice number to the list, and start making/receiving calls from now on with my google voice number. Will I be able to call within the US and Canada for free?

If you google how to do it then it should work, but might only work incoming or outgoing calls, not both. Most likely incoming I think. When you USED to dial out, it would always dial the same number, but now, it dials a different number to dial out and isnt always the same. Google it and I am sure you can find a tutorial somewhere.
Add your GV# to FnF then get Flex Dialer Pro from the Market. Once setup it will call out using your GV#. That way all calls coming & going are free.

It works for outgoing calls if you have the old google voice apk. the new one on the market uses multiple numbers instead of connecting to the same server everytime. here you it is. this is the one I use it always dials out the same number http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7628419/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice.apk Do NOT UPDATE!

This is correct for outgoing calls.
For incoming calls, you can add your google voice number to your F&F and then set Settings -> Calls -> Caller ID (incoming) to "Display my google voice number."
You then lose caller ID, but the calls are free.
More hassle than its worth imo.
Using the older .apk you'll have to add 2 numbers to your FnF. One for outgoing calls & your GV#. The outgoing number does sometimes change depending on your location as far as I can tell. If you set it up as I suggested earlier you'll use only your GV# in FnF.

Google Voice + Messaging app integration issue

When ever I get a text to my Google voice number (I use native Google messaging app) from someone I know, I can see their name but number has changed. Its kinda annoying because it starts a new chat thread. I end up adding that "weird" number to my contacts to make it work properly. Has anyone been able to figure this out or adding server number to contacts is the only way to make it work?
There is no way around this issue, turn off text from Google voice and just text from the voice app.
When using the standard Messaging app and not the Google Voice app, messages are sent by proxy via a "Google Voice Access Number". The GVA number is that weird number you're seeing. You can call that number to connect to your friend's number, and they will see your GV number on the caller ID. As far as I know that access number is semi-permanent... so you can add it to your address book. It may change after several months at which point the call just won't go through.
To avoid this, disable "Receive text messages on this phone" under the Google Voice settings page from your browser and use the Google Voice app.
I just use the GV SMS Integration app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mdrtools.apps.gvintegration&hl=en
Works flawlessly. No crazy numbers or anything. I just see their names as if I wasn't using Google Voice.
Quick trick

One thing i do to avoid this problem is save the google voice port number to my contacts i usually text the google voice created number or initiate the text via google voice app to avoid this problem.... hope this helped!
Thanks for all the info guys I really appreciate it.

[Q] Can you make text received to Google Voice number display your contacts real #?

So I'm trying to figure out how to make texts I receive to my Google Voice number display my contacts actual number as opposed to the Google number they are assigned. I understand that it was meant to allow you to send a message back to that person that would still display your GV number, however, with Voice+ all my text's are sent from my GV number so it seems unnecessary and has the annoying effect of creating two conversation threads with one person. Even stranger is I will receive the same text from their actual number 10-15 minutes later (I'm assuming from the "receive text messages to this phone option in the web settings) which usually isn't that much of an issue as if I'm texting it's probably not that urgent, but makes text conversations almost impossible. However, this leads me to think that it is entirely possible to force texts sent to a GV number to seem as if they are sent from your friend directly.
If anyone has any solutions, I'm all ears.
I should note that when I do receive text messages that were sent to my GV number that eventually do come through with the senders real number, they all come at once. That is, if I had a 10 text conversation with someone, I will receive all 10 of their responses all at once (and usually two of each) from their actual number. So it seems like its syncing messages on some time interval. Maybe there's a way to decrease that time interval?
Here's a screenshot illustrating what I'm talking about in case I wasn't clear.

Dialer Calls Wrong Number When Using Google Voice For Outgoing Calls

I recently purchased a Z1 Compact and have discovered that when using Google Voice to dial all calls, the wrong number is stored in the call log. This makes it hard to track who I'm calling. From what I've read, this is the number that Voice calls before connecting you to your contact. The way it's worked previously on other phones is that the contact number is stored in the call log and the go-between number is called in the background. This is the proper way and what I'd like to get back to. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm on 4.4.4. If anyone has Lollipop, has this issue been fixed? The one workaround I've seen is that you should store these numbers in the contact information (as each number is specific to a contact) so that you'll see your contact in the call log, but I'd rather just fix the issue. Ultimately, I believe the issue stems from Sony modifying the stock dialer such that the Voice app doesn't hook in properly to show the contact phone number in the call log. I've seen that some Samsung phone users have the same issue. Please let me know if you have any advice.
Whatever the issue was, it has been fixed in Lollipop.
