[Q] Buying SGS II from USA - question - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I'm going to order manufacturer refurbished Samsung Galaxy S II from USA, but I'm not sure will it work on European (Croatia) network?
If it is unlocked is there any other obstacles?
And if it is not unlocked, is it a problem to unlock it to work on European network?
Thanks in advance for reply, and sorry if it is OT.

What kind of USA's S2 ?
Keep in mind that americans don't market I9100.
Check out the model in order to move this thread to the right forum.

It will work outside the u.s. but overseas frequencies are different so you probably will not get 4g capabilities 3g at best.

[Q] Using the TM GSII on other Networks

Hello guys!
I have a international I9100 and I live in Brazil. I'm looking forward to buying the TM GSII for a girl to use here, since it is cheaper then the I9100 and has a bigger screen.
What I know:
It is technically capable of running here, both the GSM and 3G frequencies.
I can install CM7 (when ready) and forget everything about something locked.
You can unlock the olders USA's Galaxy S.
What I want to know:
Is it locked for T-Mobile?
Can I unlock it using a Samsung ROM?
Can I use a International GSII ROM and only the Kernel from the TM GSII?
I will update this post with the answers to properly share with everybody.
I really appreciate it! Thanks!

US vs International version?

Any differences? I know the quad processor was a big difference on the note 1. I think thats been taken care of. How about the home button? Are they soft on the international version?
No differences buddy. It will be released to all 5 major networks here in the US by mid-November. With LTE (except T-Mobile, HSPA+) and with a Quad Core.

Appears the N7105 will be international and support European LTE bands, which is different from USA. Appears the N7100 will support LTE bands (ATT etc) in U.S., but not totally confirmed. Just pointing out, still a question. if you just wait to get from ATT, as an example, previous post is totally correct, no differences at this point.

Well I hope the international bands are the same for LTE, Cause I wanna plan on buying the international one, Upgrading my N7000. The reason why is cause By the time I pay for TAXES to pay retail at AT&T It would be about $50 dollars cheaper to buy the international one
Wonder if the international one will have more support?

This is interesting I am in the market for new phone and services. I would think that having the international version would be nice for being able to switch carriers

Traditionally the international units tend to get software updates sooner.
Does anyone know if the exynos will have SVDO support like the us versions of the gs3?
At least the sprint version will have cdma, GSM, and LTE.
No details so far about the Verizon model.

I don't see it said anywhere that it will be a world phone. Yea it will support GSM but that alone doesn't make it a world phone.

if it supports GSM when it's a CDMA phone then it is a world phone...... reading the info from the link it's a world phone without a doubt. unless they have the wrong info posted.

Support for GSM is just a part of it. It need to be able to use multiple frequency bands(which it does) normally it it's tri/quad band it's ok, But also it need to have a SIM slot which you can replace SIM card from carrier outside the US then you can call that a world phone.

I definatly think so, international variants always have in the past anyways, that's why im getting the international one plus LTE isn't a must for me.

It's because the chipset has been different. In this case, Note 2 will have the same Exynos for all models. It means compatibility across the board is a possibility.

Nope it means nothing at all.
All of the Major US carriers have already leaked pics of their Note II's.
They are all the same no difference at all.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy S3 on AT&T possible?

I am planning to buy an used Sprint Galaxy S3, but I am using Straightalk (which is using AT&T network).
Is there any way I can use this phone with AT&T? I am searching this forum for more than week now and could not find a definetive answer, so I thought it's time to post. I am novice on android but technical person, so would be able to grasp (or google) technical details.
Looking forward to quick response on this query.
The Sprint version is CDMA. The AT&T network is GSM. They are not compatible.

How would you expect to stick a Straighttalk sim in a CDMA device? CDMA and GSM are completely different. They are not compatible.

I thought S3 is world phone, it supports GSM and CDMA both but carrier do disable either based on what they are not intended to use.
Here is other useful information about how to do it.

That is the Verizon S3 (I535). Also different than the Sprint S3 (L710). The Sprint S3 is most definitely CDMA only.

I keep seeing over and over members telling people that sprint and verizon phones cant work on gsm carriers because its cdma phone. That is wrong it can be done it does have the bands aometimes you have to flash gsm radio on sprint and verizon phones. It can be done. Members if you dont know what ypu are talking about please dont tell people things that arent true. Im tired of seeing false info on such a reputable site. Id u dont know. Dony say you do.
Check amazon for an ATT S3 phone. The one I got was classified as good, and it looks brand new, no marks nothing. I may have gotten lucky. I bought it from Amazon warehouse, not one of the other sellers. The price was a bit higher but it appears worth it. But with amazon if it doesn't meet your standards you can return it.

[Q] Can I use my AT&T SGS3 When I visit China/Hong Kong?

I have a US sgs3: SGH-I747 that was bought/used on AT&T.
I want to be able to drop in a new SIM when I go to china and Hong Kong, and use the Voice/Data Networks over there. Is there a way to do this? Must I root the device?

#1. Wrong forum. You're looking for the AT&T Galaxy S III SGH-I747 forum.
#2. No. Your phone has a receiver/antenna which can only send.receive AT&T signals. Sorry, man.
Edit: Reported it to a mod, she/he will move it shortly.

Lol there's no such thing as "ATT signals", there's just certain frequencies. And as long as your phone support the frequencies that the Hong-Kong carrier uses, it'll work. check the specifications

Lol. Sorry for writing it n00b friendly.
I have a compete datasheet for it.
But AT&T has specific signal strengths and lengths that are specific to that carrier. And that is because they don't want 'their' phones to be used on other networks. It's the same with Verizon and Sprint...

My understanding is that the new Sprint phones operate on GSM and CDMA. There's more to it than just that though. Each company operates on different frequencies and sprints new phones operate in 3 different bands so you'd probably lose out on coverage even if you could connect to some of the bands.
