[Q] Complete action using - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Question:
I searched high and low with no helpful results. I am running (place your favoite ROM here) and updated it to the latest release. I would like to have Google Maps Navigation as my default for driving directions. Before this update, Google Maps Navigation was one of the choices in the Complete action using selection. Now since the update, it no longer shows as an option. I did nothing different with the update and I restore all my apps from Google so nothing there has changed. How do I add the Navigation function of Google Maps App to the Compete action using list?

Go to settings->apps->[what ever app you need (in this case maps and navigation)] and press clear defaults. This will remove the defaults saved in your phone, the next time you perform a task that can be done with both apps (like clicking on an address in your browser) it should ask you which app to use as your default.
Not sure if that helps, but if it does please slap that thanks button

Thank you for the reply but I tried that already with no results. This seems to be something else.

Double click or gesture to bring up Task Manager?

I don't like to hold the home button to get the task manager. Are there other options like double clicking or maybe a gesture? I'm using Go Launcher EX.
I had Apex Launcher on captivate and saved my settings from there where swipe up would bring up my task manager. It worked on my S3 as well but if i reset my settings to blank i wouldnt be able to save it...
the best thing to do that might work which im gonna try since i just switced to Go Launcher is to bring my settings over to my captivate and then use the task manager as the swipe up gesture and then load the settings saved from there back on my device.
I'm using nova prime and I have double tap to open up recent apps works perfectly

BEST RECOMMENDATION EVER.
Back in the Nexus S days I'd always hope that a dev would switch out the search key for recent apps, but this app totally makes up for the lack of that hardware key!
THANKS

So this is how I run my phone. I gesture everything from the right side of the phone since my thumb is always there. Lower half leads to 12 shortcuts that I always use. Swipepad beats going to the homescreen. And top half has multitasking options. Remember to hit the thanks button if you use either of these apps. Both are free

try apex. I have double tap on homescreen to open facebook. Should work for the task manager too

You could always put a shortcut to the taskbar onto your desktop.
I put all my favorite apps into folders on my launcher.
The stripe at the top left is a slider for my screen brightness.
This keeps my desktop clean for when I use my animated fishtank desktop.
You can also use wave launcher btw. You can just swipe to bring it up

Thanks everyone. I went with Wave Launcher. Very easy to set up.

The app is called Task Changer, and search for it by:
"task changer"
With the quotations. Otherwise the stupid play store doesn't give you the exact hit.

I'm not sure if its considered a task manager, but my newest app does contain a Recent Apps feature.
Here's a link to a preview video I made http://youtu.be/UIEIqQYU0ZI
You basically create gestures to do all kinds of things and you're also able to move the little Trigger to quick-activate a gesture.
In the video, you'll see that if I drag my Trigger icon up and release, it'll launch out Recent Apps even if I didn't create a Recent Apps gesture. You can customize that part however you want.
Besides Recent Apps, other features are
Launching Apps
Changing Settings, including a whole Profile
Creating and launching App Panels (In the video I set the drag right action to be launch an App Panel that holds all my apps, so I can access all my apps no matter where I am)
Pulling Notification Bar
Opening a Webpage
And just... a whole lot more. The beginning of the video is a preview of the gestures that can be created.
The app will be released as soon as I am able to fully test out all its features on my Galaxy S III that is arriving tomorrow. Release date should be in the next 2-3 days and no later than the 15th.

What you can do that i did is you can save your Launcher settings to your SD card and go back to your previous galaxy S and load it there.
I had Slim ICS on my Captivate and had gotten Task manager to install on the phone. Since it became a actual app it showed on my list for gestures. I saved the settings back to the SD and transferred back to the S3 and works .. just dont remove the gesture in the options in your launcher on your S3 or youll have to reload the settings again !

Hi Mr "Task Changer Titanium" Developer
I just bought a license and gave 5 star reviews on the app and the license app .... I got the thank-you pop up with the license number, telling me to enter it into the settings ... but I don't see anywhere in the TCT settings to enter it and I am still getting the periodic pop-up saying "you need to buy a license to run this ...."
JUST SO happy to have a touch/capacitive HOME solution again !!!
Thanks for you help

[Q] Google Search as Home-key Double-press

When I was on stock 4.1.2 and on Josh Beach's JellyBombed rom afterwards, you are able to choose what app will launch the first time you double-press the home key for the first time after updating Google framework services from a factory restore or something - Google Search (Android's Siri) or Samsung's S Voice. I noticed this happening earlier this year after their major update for that.
Anyway, in stock 4.3 and 4.4, you can even have Google Now enabled and you aren't able to choose that option even after making sure S Voice isn't set as default anything in application settings.
Is there a workaround to getting it working again in at least 4.4.2?

I use a program called home 2 shortcut. It lets you set one for double home press as well as two other shortcuts. You just set it as your default home and then choose your normal launcher inside the program. I know there was a way to do it on 4.3 with xposed but have zero idea if it is available on Kit Kat xposed. I have mine set to open an autovoice prompt until the Google API is working again for me which I will then go back to Now as the launch. I am only just starting to study programming from the ground up (C then on to C++) for school so anything on the development end is still out of my league.

Help on how to exit google now launcher..

Like many I downloaded google play store and many google apps.
I also activated the google now launcher.
1. How do I revert to fire os?
Double pressing home brings up quick switch which has apps but no os option.
2.. In this mode the lock screen does not have 3d even though low motion is on.
Thanks for any help.
Perhaps you want to know how to have silk use google instead of bing?
Go to settings, configure amazon applications , click on silk and choose search engine from bing, google or Yahoo.

Download home switch application from play store.
Just download any other launcher. Any of them. When it gets installed, press the Home button. It'll ask you which launcher you want to use. Choose any of them, but "Always" must NOT be checked. Then uninstall that launcher. Press the Home Button. It'll ask you again which launcher you want to use. Choose the stock one and name sure to check "Always".
Or go to the Play Store, search for Google Now Launcher and then uninstall it.
Noticed on a phone that I rooted recently for someone else that when I used the kindle app it switched to the fire launcher. Don't know if this works all the time, kindle app would open once I clicked on it in the fire os.

Unable to get rid of Bing floating toolbar

I have A Pixel 2 XL. It is up to date with all patches installed. No custom ROM. I am using Nova Launcher.
About a week ago, a persistent floating circular search icon appeared on my home screen. As I swipe from screen to screen, the icon goes with each screen.
When I tap the icon, it expands to to a transparent search bar showing the bing icon. I can type into the search bar, but it does not link to any search engine. It does nothing. I can type in another search term with the same result.
When I tap the arrow at the end of the search bar, it reverts back to the circular icon.
I can move the icon around the screen. If I tap and hold the icon, instead of giving me the opportunity to delete it like with any other icon, nothing happens.
I've deleted all Microsoft products except Office, refreshed the cache, run AVG Antivirus, and still nothing.
Nothing obvious shows in the Apps and Notifications area.
I'm wondering if it's related to Nova Launcher, but I can't see anything obvious in the settings.
I'm totally mystified.
Any ideas?
Alright, so here we go.
First I'd like to state that any antivirus on Android isn't a bad idea per-se, but with Play Protect it is pretty pointless. All apps are verified upon downloading them from the Play Store. Apps like AVG and Avast are renown for collecting data that they shouldn't be and add a lot of unnecessary features on top. You wanted an antivirus right? Not some app that can also detect through deranged means when your password is being used?
If you want something more effective (totally not an antivirus though), there is SD Maid. It will remove any files that are left behind by other applications, and clear out deprecated databases that are no longer being used. That's all it has ever done, and why I went out of my way to support the developer in their initiative.
Now, on to that bing search bar. I'd imagine that if the only MS app you have installed is in fact office, it may very well be the source of it all. Another possibility is an invasive application that might have been installed after allowing the installation of unknown sources.
Are there any apps you installed outside of the Play Store?
i dont have nova laucher, but i got the same problem.
this search-floating-icon, is always on top of all apps. it can not be deleted/hide.
i got this problem from yesterday,
since i installed some non reputable apps on google play
I have never installed an app outside the play store. Thanks for the detailed answer.

I think this is malware / virus.
open google play store, click the uninstall button in any application that you have installed.
this search-floating-icon automatically disappears, as if it was also uninstalled.
then 30 minutes laters its appear again..

I have the same problem on my samsung tablet and I share your frustration. I think it comes with the software upgrade...chrome version xxxxx143. The icon temporarily disappear when you do an apps force stop but it comes back again. I have chrome on my other android devices but not this latest problem.
Can you post a screenshot of this thing?
Figured it out
Faced the same problem. It was an app Free VPN proxy master com.free.fast.master.unblock.proxy.vpn
After its removal button disappeared

Assist & Voice input

Hi to all!
Simply question: I want to remove the google assistant in the bottom corners of the homescreen, so i go settings>apps & notifications>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app and i select none and till here nothing to say. The problem is that everytime i reboot or switch off the phone, google assistant return as default app instead of "none" and it's a lot weird. There's a way to definitely remove the app? i don't want to uninstall or disable it, only remove from the corners. Maybe a fake app to put there instead of google. Thank you!

If you're rooted, just freeze it with titaniumbackup. If not rooted, use adb to disable.
Edit... N/m Check the launcher settings? I use nova launcher so never seen it.
Which os are you on?
when I follow that route (settings>apps & notifications>default apps>assist & voice input>assist app) I just have Google, no option for "none".
i use the MS launcher and I've never had the Google assistant on the home screen, switched back to the 1+ default and it wasn't there either
I'm on stock oos 10.0.12, I've taken a screen.. and I'm using Nova launcher

I'm not sure.. I have mine set to 'none' as I don't use the assistant. I haven't had any issues. In fact, it's been that way since I set up the phone some 9 months ago.
