Hello,
Whenever I use the camera button on my ZL to open the camera (which is of course what it's for ), the settings I last used are reset and I end up back in (the crappy) superior auto mode!!
When I use the camera icon in app drawer it goes back to the correct settings that I set.
This is very very annoying because:
1) Superior auto sucks
2) I want to use multi auto focus mode because all the other modes have auto-focus (so there's no use for the ZL's button).
When I open with camera button and press settings, it also goes back to "good" settings.
Any help?
Thanks
Well, I can only say that this is by design.
Camera launch by camera key called "quick launch" and generally itended for situations when you need to take picture in a hurry, without time to fiddle with settings, in any possible situation - hence default to full auto. In camera settings you can also make it to instantly take picture, without even requiring second press.
If you want to launch camera in "leisure pace" with custom settings and all, you have to use camera app icon.

I understand. However with the ZL, for me, using the hardware button is by far easier and faster and I don't necesarlly use it to "quickly take a picture" but more to open the camera all the time.
It would be OK if superior mode was in fact any good

I've used this site for a long time for help with my phone (thnx btw), but this is my first post....
I have a tmobile g2 rooted running cm7 with go launcher ex and here is my problem: I wanted to installed camera 360 as the default camera when the hardware camera button is pushed. Upon installing camera 360 and pressing camera button, option was not given but instead opens default camera.
I thought that maybe the app didn't override the system controls and downloaded Vignette as well. This time when I hold down the camera button, it gives me the option to make vignette, camera 360, and regular camera default option of this button. Great. So I set it to camera 360 and test it and it worked.
So...I uninstalled Vignette. I don't much like it and it slows down my phone so I didn't need it. After it was uninstalled, I pressed the camera button again and the default android camera launches instead of camera 360. Checked settings in manage apps and camera 360 is still set as default option.
Installed Vignette again and pressed camera button and camera 360 launches. I have tried this process while testing the settings in camera 360 as well. All result in same result. Also tried freezing Vignette with Titanium but that doesn't work either.
So.....I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to have Camera 360 launch with hardware button without having Vignette installed. Ideas?
Manage applications > Camera > Clear defaults...?? possibly.
One thing that I liked about ICS is quick access to camera from the lock screen - but it wasn't secure. You can only select one method of locking from the Security list in Settings.
Is there a way (current, or can someone create) to use some of those locking mechanisms in serial instead of selecting just one?
Current from Lock Screen:
Camera <--Swipe --> Use Phone
(no security) OR
Face Unlock --> Use Phone
(no camera)OR
Pin --> Use Phone
(no camera)
Requested:
For example using on the lock screen:
Camera <--Swipe --> Face Unlock -> use Phone
(the camera can start to load as soon as the power button is hit, so by the time you swipe either direction, it's loaded and ready)
I tried Go Locker but it was too heavy and created a lot of lag.
Wouldn't do any good, once in the camera app hitting home would take you home even if there is a lock screen password/pin/other lock mechanism

BUMP.
I also REALLY miss this feature. Just think of the advantages.
I use my phoen a lot just to see what time it is, because I don't where a watch every day. Everytime I turn the screen up it fires up the front cam which can't really be that good for the battery. Plus, it's such a burden having to choose between fast acces to the camera and NO security or any kind of security but no fast access to the camera.
Anyone know of an app that can do this? Slide left: Face Unlock. Slide right: Camera.
And to vlx600d: that's not true. Phones with ICS have the same feature. Unlock to camera, take pictures. Press the home button and you get back to the unlock screen.

This needs framework changes that deal with security, etc. No app can change how the os handles the face unlock process. You can try posting in gummy/aokp/cm9 threads. Maybe one of the developers would accept to make this mod.
I really dont think this would work without some serious reworking of the OS.
i remember there being a bug with a phone (cant remember which one) where, when using a secure lock screen, they could press the "emergency call" button, then just hit the home button and they were in. same concept here. if you could do this, once in the camera app, all you would have to do is hit "home" and you would be in.
The whole reason is fit fast access. Its no longer fast if you have to put in a code or wait for it to recognize it. Thus defeating the purpose to have the option. I understand the complaint though, its definitely not fair that you can't go straight to it if you want your phone safe.

Usually when I want to capture something on film (camera or camcorder) by the time I've got my phone unlocked and the app opened the event I wanted to capture is long over with.
So what's the fastest setup you guys can come up with for activating the camcorder (or alternatively the camera, but if I had to pick one I'd rather it be the camcorder)? Also I should add that I still want a lock screen for halfway secure general access to my phone.
The best I've come up with so far for camcorder access is a desktop action plus the "mashcord" program. This sequence clocks in at
power button
unlock pattern
double tap anywhere on desktop -- loads camcorder
press record button inside camcorder program
As far as some details as to why I like "mashcord" so far vs various other camcorder shortcuts:
always opens directly to camcorder, not just "camera or camcorder, most recent of the two"
when it opens the camcorder, it still has the "switch to camera" option available, not grayed out
But when operating in a hurry the above is still a very long sequence. Another thing I found is "Photo Button - Spy Camera" which manages to activate the camera with a double press of the volume button (when the phone is off and locked). This is very close to what I want. Negatives of this program are
no way to set what camera options are used: for example it always takes the pic with the flash on
is camera, I'd like camcorder
One last thing: I am rooted, so if a solution involves something like editing /system/usr/keylayout/gpio-keys.kl etc (which I did to keep the home button from turning on the phone in my pocket) I'm okay with that.
Thanks for any and all recommendations.
it's possible to unlock straight to the camcorder if you get widgetlocker.
assign the right slider to a launcher shortcut>activities>camera>camcorder (assuming you use a touchwiz rom) and the left slider to unlock.
if you use an AOSP based rom the camcorder is under "gallery" instead of "camera"
this way it would be power button> slide to unlock> record button.
if you really want to use an unlock pattern it's still not going to be very fast.
Could you not use the xposed module which allows the camera to be accessed from the lockscreen even with a pin/password? Then you should be able to use the motion thing where you put a finger on the screen and rotate the phone to landscape to launch the camera.
I haven't tried it myself as I'm not on a tw rom (which I assume you are) so I can't say for sure if this works, but there's no harm in trying.

I just add the camera to my lock screen.
Basically it's:
1) power on
2) swipe the camera icon to get to my lock pattern
3) enter lock pattern
4) take photo
I've tried the exposed mod to get straight into the camera without entering the lock code. It's good for a quick one off photo, but will kick you back to the lock screen if you try to review the photo or switch to camcorder mode.

Hi xda-friends
Today I want to share with you a way to allow any app to rotate the phone 180 grades, as it does in the built-in camera app, to use the front-facing camera in a more natural way for selfies and front-facing video calls. Here some apps where it will be useful to enable this rotation:
- Google Allo
- Google Duo
- Hangout
- Instagram
- Messages Google
- Whatsapp
I want to leave clear that I'm very happy about this device, however, considers this a way to "solve" the deficient location of the camera in some situations.
Download this app and then follow the video instructions:
"Rotation - Orientation Manager"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pranavpandey.rotation
Video/Instructions:

PD: Hope it useful for you, and sorry for the English grammar/spell errors.
This one even works with snapchat, I tried a few which turned snapchat too but in the end the picture was still upside down. With this one you can use snapchat perfectly fine with the device upside down
It's nice and you even can block the annoying "overlay detected" notification with AutoNotification, but still I have to grant app permissions to change system preferences every time I reboot. Anyone knows a workaround?

Ya inside the App > Settings > Disable Toast messages and Notification this will hide this overlay toast messages and also the permanent notification in the notification area.
it's cool and it works even without root. i used it before i was able to unlock and root my device.
be careful, i forced rotation on all apps, even the launcher screen, and then i uninstalled the app. the always rotate was still active and i couldn't turn it off. i had to reinstall the app and disable rotation, then uninstall again.

How did you setup the rotation after you have root access? Is there a module for magisk?

How did you get it to work with snapchat? on newest xiaomi.eu it rotates the app, but the camera image rotates with the app, so in the end I get an upside down camera feed
Still not working for me. I'm using MIUI 9 global version on a mix 2s and it looks like it's working just until I take the photo. Right after I press the button the photo turns upside down. In videocalls I see myself in the right way but I'm upside down in my friends' screen.
Is there another fix? The bug still exists in MIUI 10?

Same problem using miui global dev
I'm looking to find some other solution for Snapchat and probably some other apps, let me do some research first and then I'll go back to all of you with, if possible, a solution.
i tried a Whatsapp Video Call and my image is upsidedown for other people
Nice app, unfortunately there isn't a preset that works with B612 application.
Has any of you fixed the WhatsApp video calls with this app? I was not able to do so :/
Great tutorial. Worked with google camera as well.:good:
It's not work in WeChat:crying:
for those like me who have the problem that when you take the photo on instagram the photo is turned upside down, just activate any filter and take the photo and it won't be turned upside down, I don't know why but it works, I suggest you look for some empty filter if you just want to take a selfie. Sorry for my bad english i'm italian
Its not working for me, imposible to use this phone as this way...
Make sure your Bixby Routines is intact (not debloated).
Steps :
1. Go to 'Settings' then 'Advanced Settings'
2. Scroll down to Bixby Routines, then toggle on
3. Tap on Bixby Routines then chose 'Add routine' tab
4. On 'if' section tap on plus sign
5. Scroll down to 'Event', choose 'App Opened', select 'Camera'
6. On then section, tap plus sign, select 'Notifications' then select 'Do Not Disturb', select 'On'
7. Tap on 'Next' then give the routine a name of your choice and optionally color or icon.
That's it. Do not disturbed will be automatically off when camera app closed. Let me know if there is a more convenient way.
In camera settings, turn off shutter sound toggle.
For some reason, I do not have that option
What's your firmware?
I'm still on this attached version, August security update. I'm aware update is on the way, but still nothing til two days ago.

In some regions, turning off camera shutter sound is illegal which might be the reason why you don't see the option in camera settings.
Shutter sound is always turned off when mute is on with my A52s. So, on the one-off occasion that anyone will need sneaky photos just turn on mute. How hard could it be?

Well, I guess all comes down to intention. For instance if you want to take a snapshot of a page in a library, not a person without one's consent. I used to have a working app for Android 9, which no longer works. So this is just like a workaround so you do not forget to restore your standard sound settings.

If you can't remember to restore sound after taking a silent (sorry if I used the word sneaky) photo, then I can’t imagine how on earth you are able to handle other stuff on your phone. There is an icon in the notification area to make you aware of the silent mode. If the notification sound is of life and death importance, you will only forget it once and the next time you turn it off you will remember the horror and turn it on again after taking that SILENT photo.
