Hi guys,
I'm using the I9250M for work, and attempted an update through Kies with usb debugging off. The update failed, and now I'm left with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark.
I've tried holding both volume up/down buttons and power, but cannot get into download mode or any other mode. I've taken out the battery and held the power button down for 30 seconds, then replaced the battery, but still nothing.
It seems that there is no communication between the pc and phone regardless of the drivers being found and installed.
Things I've tried:
Connecting with Kies - Installed drivers through device manager using windows update. Kies is stuck on "Connecting". Only the OMAP4440 driver could not be found so had to install the OMAP4460 driver.
OMAPFlash - this seems to work ok but not sure what to do when it says "Press any key". There is no mode change after flashing (I still have the yellow triangle).
After looking through the stickies and other tutorials I've tried using the Galaxy Nexus toolkit, PDANet, Odin and WugFresh tools, but they all seem to need usb debugging on, which I can't get to.
From past experience (with windows mobile), I've usually been able to unbrick a phone if it is recognized by a windows pc, so even though this is an android phone, I'm hoping that I can do something to get this phone back in working order.
Further info: The two Samsung usb drivers installed on my windows 7 64 bit machine are modem and CDC. I've also tried using a couple of the adb interface drivers in device manager with no luck.
If I can somehow get to the download mode, that would be half the battle won.
Any suggestions.
Cheers!
You need Odin.
Beamed from my Grouper
Thanks for your reply Mach3.2.
As mentioned in my first post, I tried Odin 1.85 and 1.87 already but the phone wasn't recognized. So, I decided to try Odin 1.87 on XP, and hey presto, the phone was recognized.
So that was my problem, I needed to use Odin on Windows XP. Hope this helps someone.
Thanks!!!

Does anyone know why a win xp computer would recognize the debugging mode, I'm rooted and the one click root worked fine, but not recognize my phone when in download mode? I have the drivers installed and java sdk installed. Every time I go to download mode and plug in I get a pop up (on computer) that my device is malfunctioning and the device manager says unknown device.
I know it's not the cables because I used my brothers laptop to flash eb13 from the froyo install tool before installing syndicate. But three computers including mine have failed with this same message.
I'm confused why this one lowly laptop that is nothing special worked fine and my computer along with the other 2 give me this "usb device malfunction try connecting device again, if fails replace device". Not an exact quote.
It's a long drive to my brothers, and I would like to use odin with out having to wait a couple days til I can drive out their. It's been putting a cramp in my rom flashing mojo. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have done a bit of searching and haven't found a solution yet, among,
Trying different usb cables
Every usb port tried
Have it in download mode and plugged in while booting computer, (doesn't
Give message just doesn't connect. Then unplug replug gives message.)
Every combo of debug, unknown source on/off
Java sdk installed
Try downloading the XP drivers from Samsung and installing them fresh. I had a similiar problem. My computer took almost 10 minutes to connect all drivers the first time with new drivers. Then Odin worked fine after that.
BONSAI 4 and loving it!
Title pretty much says it, I have myself in a bit of a situation here and it is driving me crazy. I have tried reinstalling the drivers several times,5 different cords, and many battery pulls and pc restarts all to no avail. My pc says that the device has malfunctioned and Odin won't recognize it either. I desperately need a fix for this and any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Try a different usb port, and odin without the battery in at all
And try with the sd card out too. You may also try going into control panel>device manager, find your phone and update the drivers from Windows Update.
reinstall samsung usb 1.3.08 running in xp service pack 3 compatability mode, then close. Download and install Heimdall, run zadig.exe, install drivers and close (if heimdall does not see epic try pda net) then close. restart computer, open Odin then try batt out, vol up and vol down held plug usb, after 5 secondnds slide battery in while keeping vol pushed. Odin should com again now'
I swear people make these threads to drive us crazy. They don't come back to update what they tried, if it worked.....
So I have done something to my epic, I don't know if it would count as bricked soft bricked or whatever but when I turn it on it bootloops on samsung logo but I can still enter download mode, So I figured I would flash a stock rom with odin and start over.
I went to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
downloaded necessary drivers
installed and tried to connect to odin
I've tried every combination of powering the phone with the computer, then putting in download mode
I've tried powering on with battery booting into download mode opening odin selecting pit and tar and then pluging it in and nothing.
when the pc does recognize the phone it says device not recognized or device malfunctioned.
I saw a post somewhere with someone saying I needed to "advanced install" the drivers. So whatever that means I tried to uninstall the device from device manager while plugged in in download mode and updating the driver to the 64bit samsung usb driver and it says "unknown device already has best driver installed"
the computer I'm using is an HP DM1-4010us not that I think it would matter.
If anyone has anymore suggestions, or can suggest a method or pattern of step by step what I need to do
maybe install the drivers in a different compatibility mode?
what about odin compatibility?
System UAC is turned off and firewall is off too just in case it may be blocking odin from communicating with comm ports so I know that can't be the issue.
Thanks for listening to my overly detailed and confused ramblings and thanks in advance for any advice or help offered.

Try a different USB port and cable the stock cable sucks azz try a blackberry cable.
Have you tried a different usb port?
I have always used the cable that came with my epic, are you using it?
I'd at least open odin, put your phone into download mode and then connect it to the PC and see if with the stock cable it is recognized. That will tell you perhaps the cable you're using isn't connecting right for odin's use.
do you have any other cell phone drivers on your PC? I've seen where they conflict. Remove all cells phone drivers, reboot, install the epic drivers for win7 64bit
EDIT: damn i type slow. someone got itn there already

Heimdall fails to install drivers or detect the device, does this with AND without the samsung 64bit drivers installed.
Try downloading kies air to get drivers.

Make sure you downloaded the drivers named "Samsung_Mobile_Drivers_V1.3.8.." if not then that's the problem, if you need it I can email you the the file. Try all the usb cables in your house and all the computers as well, and take out sd card, I've also had this odin problem and I'm also sure it's your drivers since there are like 10 samsung drivers floating around lol.
Edit: nvm I downloaded the drivers from the thread you linked and they are correct.. try different cables, no battery no sd card, and different computers

Hi,
after getting my Note 2 LTE back from repair (they changed the mainboard, speaker, vibrator and USB port) I'm now trying to root it using Odin 1.85 (have tried 3.07 too) and CF Auto Root. The problem is that neither the phone nor the PC detects any USB connection at all while in download mode, ie. it doesn't even pop up with a driver request or anything. Device manager doesn't show any change in devices either. In this case the old "nothing happens" truly applies...
I've tried with going into download mode with voldown+home+power and with 'adb reboot download', with the only difference between the two is that when using ADB it doesn't display the white text in the upper left corner.
The PC runs Windows 7 (I used this same machine to root the phone when I got it back in November, and I haven't changed anything on it, other than the usual software updates). I've tried two cables that both work when connecting the phone while booted normally. The one I'm using now worked fine to transfer about 1 GB of pictures back to the memory card.
It's running the latest 4.1.2 (JZO54K.N7105XXDMC3) and is fully charged.
EDIT: I've now tried with uninstalling Kies and the Samsung USB drivers completely but the problem remains.
Thanks,
Magnus
Note 2 Android 4.1.2 download mode connect to PC
I have the same problem. Although your post is old, yet unanswered, I'm not sure if im posting correctly, or must create a new thread.
I connected my Note 2 to PC-USB during download mode. Also no action, but device manager showed a yellow triangle, while Odin running and pointing to a file for rooting.
I read in a post once that upgrading to Android V4.1.2 prevents rooting. How can I degrade it?
Phone connects successfully in normal mode.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2, SGH-T889 of T-Mobile (locked to carrier). Android V4.1.2
Tried on 2 PCs with Windows 8.
Also tried turning phone on to Download Mode after plugging it to USB.
I tried unlocking it, the unlocking software required phone to be rooted first!
Completely new to android. Regular mode, pc recognizes easily. Download mode, not at all. No unknown device. If on the Note I pick "upgrade from adb" then the pc devise manager shows a samsung device adb device. So, it sees it. but still Odin does not see it. Tried USB debug mode on/off on the tablet. Restarted PC and tablet several times. Using original usb cable, tried various usb ports. Am I missing something obvious? I feel that I am.
I would install kies from samsung. Completely reinstall drivers from with in kies and go from there. You could actually push the recent update from kies to your tab and that will do it in odin mode. Give it a try…

Using Windows 7,
Uninstalled Kies 3, reinstalled, updated, uninstalled/reinstalled all drivers. Tried usb debugging on/off (which changed the drivers) Odin perfectly detects the tablet in regular mode. In recovery/download mode I still don't even get an unknown device. It sees the Samsung Adb device, but neither kies (though maybe it shouldn't) nor odin "see" the device. Tried various usb ports, multiple computers. I am on most recent firmware for the P600
Working with tablets (first ipad 2, now the new note) make me feel like I know nothing about computers.

Recovery and download mode are two completely different things. If you are in recovery then Odin will not see the tablet. You have be in download mode. Power the device off and restart it by holding down the power button and volume down at the same time. If you hold power and volume up you will go into recovery which does you no good for Odin.

Thank you, that is exactly what my problem was, as I said, I knew I was being an idiot, thank you. *slaps forehead* I had asked "that guy" at work and had been told recovery mode and download mode meant the same thing, so I didn't google it.

Samsung is the only manufacturer I have used that does download mode. Most others have bootloader mode that works with adb. Though using Odin is easier for beginners than adb.

For me, I had to use the old Kies, not Kies3. I didn't even get a device showing up in device manager when USB Debugging was enabled, though if i switched USB mode from MTP to Camera, I would get a device Samsung_Android that looked like it wanted ADB drivers, but manually pointing it to the drivers included with Kies3 didn't work.

I have a sm-p600 that has been rooted and had a custom rom on it. I went to change the resolution and it rebooted and then i got a bootloop and now i am unable to get into my custom recovery and i cannot connect through adb or in download mode with no unknown device message as well. any suggestions to fix this would be appreciated.
Make sure Kies isn't running in the background, it screws with ODIN....
