So, I turned my phone off to charge it one night and realized I left my charger in the car. My G2x charger was still in my room. So, I plugged it in. To my surprise, instead of charging my phone, it put my GS2 into download mode.
So, now instead of messing with the buttons trying to get it right, I just turn my phone off, plug it into that charger and then plug it into my computer to use with Odin.
I have no idea why it does this, but hey, I kind of like it.
And, that is my dumb story for the day.

Maybe a pin configuration diff in the charger. That's about the only thing I can think of that may be able to pull it off. Good to know. Thanks
I would not trust using a wierd cable in Odin, good thing it didn't disconnect or anything during the flash or you could of very well bricked the device
just words of caution

Weird. I wonder why mine doesn't. Do you use it with the phone off?
My g2x charger does the same. There have been threads on it already.
Here's one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314284
This also means that we now can have a jig for bricked phones, right? Figure out what's the pin configuration that forces it into download mode?

My dog bit mine, at the LG sign. It turned it into a jig.
My phone has been charging all yesterday and now its only at 36%. Last night it was at 99-100%. Before I went to sleep I put it on airplane mode (if that has relevance)
Also, is it normal that the device reboots when I try to turn it off while its charging?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
no thats not normal...i occasionally. get a reboot here and there...im using Juggernaut 5.0 with some scripts..and the kernel for Juggernaut ...what setup do you.have? have to be more specific when trouble shooting?

When your phone is charging, your battery is not in use.
If you see it drop, then your phone is not charging
Sorry. I'm unrooted (stock). This phone is less than a week old. also I was using a external battery pack that was plugged in. I switched to.the USB charger that came with it and its fine. Could it be the battery pack,.even though I've charged many devices with it and haven't seen/noticed it before
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Try this...plug it up to the stock charger..then plug pinto an outlet..if it don't have any issues then bam there's your answer
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Sounds like your phone may have gotten wet recently. Best thing to do is remove the battery and let the phone sit over night next to a low heat source. After you pop the battery back in in the morning, let it charge back to 100% first.
Use the phone as normal. When it's time to charger the phone again, it should charge again with no issues
It hasn't gotten wet, but it was really moist once. I didn't notice any, problems after I charged it again with the stock (is that the term?) charger

if you are on AC then that's not normal
if you are on USB then that is normal if you have the screen on or using the phone while charging

Lol your either using the wall charger or your not.
If you are using it, and your battery is going down, then it is time for a warranty exchange.

How old/new is the phone? I hope you have warranty. If not, you might try to Odin a stock image on to it. If you can't go into download mode, try the jig solution.
You may had a bad flash. Hopefully this advice will help.

OK guys not sure whats been going on but i had around 8% left its been 4hrs or 5 and its only up to 78% thats a bit crazy if you ask me. Im running a custom Rom 4.2.1 i believe i feel like going back to stock...
Where did you get 4.2.1? The kernel in something that for off from what is in the usual development channels may have an impact on charging. I'd stick with 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 for current kernels.

I had this problem also when I had the note 2 for about a month...happened twice only though, not every time. I ended up returning that phone because the mic kept cutting out. I haven't had this problem on a new note 2 yet (been about 3 weeks). So there might be something wrong with the device, i don't know.

When you plug in the charger, double check that it says "AC Charging." I have plugged mine in and gotten mixed results:
1. AC charging
2. USB charging
3. Nothing
If I get #3, I restart and usually get #1.
You can also install a battery monitor app and check the log to see how much charge you are getting.

Was your phone just charging or were you doing stuff?
More importantly, what does it say for mA in the log.?

If you were flashing a new rom or any big file. You should never flash below 50% percent. I did this the other day and it was just charging so so slow. So what I did was turned it off and let it charge. While that was happening I guess when it hits a certain percentage it automatically turns on. It turned back on and it was charging just fine. And also when your on the phone while charging the percent goes down for me as well.

Something is wrong there. Easy candidates are:
Your battery
your charger
your cable
Do you have any way to swap out any of the above to see what it may be?

Random input.....
I just happened to be charging my phone while browsing the forum yesterday when I came across this thread. I'm not having any issues I was just killing time and being lazy..
It made me check my battery and I noticed it seemed to be charging kinda slow. (I had been plugged in a while and hadn't gone up much) I checked battery in settings and it said charging USB. I was plugged into the wall outlet. Strange indeed!
I unplugged the usb from the phone then plugged it back in and it switched to AC. It definitely started charging faster after that.
I never would have thought to check this so I'm glad I was snooping around.
Just figured I'd share my experience.

I've had the same problem with slow charging every once in a while. I think it has more to do with the kernel and/or rom. I had times when it took overnight for the phone to charge. Now it charges full in about 2-3 hours.

I came home from grabbing a bite to eat. About 30 minutes had passed and I was wondering why I havent heard my phone in a few. Checked and the notification light was blinking. Tried to press the power button to turn it on and nothing. Pulled the S Pen out because that would make it come on and still nothing. Pulled the battery and now all i get is the "Samsung Galaxy Note 2" screen. If i leave it there, after about 2 hours it will make the T-Mobile jingle and go into a boot loop. The boot loop lasts until i pull the battery again.
My phone was not rooted, no ROMs or anything. Only apps I had that did not come preinstalled on the phone were, Facebook, Tweetcaster, Instagram, Hill Climb Racing, Subway Surfer and my banking app.
My Galaxy 2 did something similar but i blamed it on the ROM I was using and figured I had bricked it some way. My faith in Samsung products is declining....
Are you able to connect it to a pc and is it recognized through ADB?
If so, I would try using ODIN and dumping the stock firmware and start from fresh.

Similar scenario/solution except never a bootloop.. just went from 6% battery to completely dead.
I didnt try to turn it on, but pressed (tapped power button) and the phone wouldnt do anything. It also didnt respond to a charge, plugged it in to several wall outlets in various rooms, until I pulled the battery for, like ive been trained through older droids, 30 seconds...
Replaced the battery, plugged it in and got it charging, waited til 20-30% before turning on phone to verify, and yes everything was working fine!!
