Hello all,
This is the first time I have posted to this forum, but I have used it to learn a lot of things. I have rooted my Galaxy s3 without any problems at all. I received my new Galaxy S4 form T-Mobile today and I wanted to to move all data over to the S4 from S3 using Titanium. I used the motochopper root method multiple time but I continue to receive the sane error each time.
"the superuser binary (su) must be updated. Please choose an installation method.
When I choose install it fails as well.
PLEASE HELP ME
thanks in advance I appreciate it.
Robert
Flash a custom recovery with odin and then flash su.
I'll post more detailed instructions in a bit.

If you have updated, use that guide.

Same problem I had. This is the thread I started http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288234
I got everything answered there.
Additionally, from within titanium backup, if you're putting your TB stuff from the GS3 on your GS4's external SD card you'll have to point TB to it.

First time rooting a phone. This is of course very different then my hd2 using the sdcard to load a ROM. I tried to do a lot of reading on this and make sure I really understood what I was getting in to but I have missed something, I'm hoping small.
Here is the thread I am using to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311194 .
I have android version 2.3.6 towards the end (last 2 pages) of this someone says that 2.3.6 needs to download a different cwm and a different su version. I have downloaded these and am now trying to root.
I got the cwm to work made a backup and then installed the superuser. Every step is confirmed complete with a message that appears to be successful and then I reboot. I now have a superuser icon but when I click on it it opens and is blank. I then try to update the su binary and it tells me its legacy. I tell it to update and it tries to install busy box and then fails on gaining root access.
After writing all of this I realize they said I need su-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip and I have Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed. Before I go any farther is this my problem. Sorry this is so long I just don't know what step I messed up and thought all the info possible was best.
Not sure if this is what your looking for. But since you have the custom recovery installed, you could always down load and flash a custom rom. They are all rooted.

yep if you want to stay stock, just flash a stock deodexed rom or something. Should be the easiest solution.
I just used the instructions in that thread you referenced to root my brand new T-Mo GS2 this morning and got it to work. I did use su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip instead of what you described you used.
I also used the CWM version that one of the posters referred to in the later parts of that thread.
Thanks guys for answering. I was very tired when I posted so I just went to sleep. After taking a fresh start today I found it was the su version. I found it after a couple of mins did it over and was rooted. Lol so close on first try.
Hello People..Having recently traded my Galaxy s2 (sprnt) for the Note 2,(At&t)
I am leaps ahead in capacity..however, I too discovered the dreaded Modified status.( after rooting with toolkit by mrskip- thank him for great method.).and having searched for several days when time allows..I havent found any successful method that we can utilize.)( I still have same status )I have tried triang. away, unrooting( saved root on voodoo )..uninstalled the custom recovery installed by mr skips great toolkit. ( I didnt use cf autoroot if that clarifies..) and so I'd like to be able to: 1- preserve my warranty 2- get ota updates and hopefully
retain root with no custom roms. I'm sure many feel the same way..perhaps we can brainstorm on a clearcut procedure and share the benefit..I'm willing to donate, give a hundred thanks,( and avoid bricking as well..in the process)
It was my fault for not being aware of this hidden ware to trigger the status..
but with all the knowledge present( of developers, and others.. ) I'm sure the answer can be -put together somewhat challenging to accomplish.but user friendly to install or flash.(w/o hard wipe).obviously --I'm no expert ...Help is requested !!:fingers-crossed:
Hi There.
I am not sure if this has been posted in the right place, Care to move if needed
I tried rooting my S4 mini 19195. And I am having issues with it. firstly I get
1.Device detected an application attempting unpermitted acces. This has something to do with SEAndroid and I don't know how to get rid of it.
2. There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSu cannot install it' Help!?
3 If I go into About device / status and scroll down to device status, it says my phone is "Custom" and I cannot do a software update.
Would I need to do this "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980" to correct these issues
Thanks

Well, this isn't the S4 Mini forum so you should try to post there to get better help.
Did you by any chance try using a regular Galaxy S4 root method? If so, that's probably why you're having problems.
Also, the link you gave goes to the forum where you need to be. And yes, that link you gave is the right one to root your device. Just follow instructions and you'll be good to go.
Don't worry about the Custom info in About Phone as that is what happens when you root the device.
There are well-explained threads in the S4 Mini forums to guide you through the rooting process.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980
to sort out nr 1
To get rid of the the warnings about applications doing not permitted actions, delete the following files from system/app

KNOXStore.apk

Not sure about nr 2 i had same message but my superuser managed to install binary.
I rooted my T-Mo Galaxy S4 with Oden through my PC, downloaded the root checker app, and it says I'm rooted. If for any reasons I have doubts of it truely being rootes (as in I did everything correctly), can I reroot it with no problems, cautions, and/or unexpexted possible variables? Or should I unroot then root again? I appreciate anyone taking the time to read and answer my question. Thank you.

Don't become a victim of root - paranoia, just do all that "rooted " stuff like getting rid of your bloatware and installing custom roms and don't worry about re-rooting. Life is too short.

You can root as many times as you'd like. All rooting does is copy a file into a protected part of the ROM - usually SuperSU.
However, if Root Checker is saying you are rooted, you are.
You can also open SuperSU, and look at the settings and see what it says. Or, if you open an app that requests root access, you should get a notification, where you can give root to that app, or deny it. And, if you already have given it access, you will get a popup showing when SuperSU give the root access to that app. If you haven't already done so, the important root apps to get are file explorers. I like ESFileExplorer available in the Play Store. However, since you seem to be a newbie READ, READ, READ before you start deleting, changing anything with your phone.
