[Q] Unknow device driver error, mid flashtool firmware, Flashing Red - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, and thank you in advance for any and all help you can give me here. I am going to attempt to give you all the info I can to the best of my ability.
r800at GSM 12W05 - purchased unbranded / sim unlocked about 1 year ago Locked Bootloader
I almost immediately flashed new firmware and rom Gin2JellyBean -
i dont recall for sure specifics but I am pretty sure it was 2.3.4 version running on the 4.0.2.A.0.42
I had no issues with this install and everything went flawlessly. I do know that in my phone info after this it was recorded as a r800i.
This worked well and I liked it quite a lot until recently most of the new games would lag/ freeze/ crash.
After a great deal of reading I found [Rom][PLAY][PORT][MULTIBOOT] AtoMic GB 7.0 [ The Ultimate Dual Core Experience ]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219154
and thought it may help with some of my issues.
So yesterday I downloaded -
- Flashtool Windows Edition - v0.9.10.1
- CWM Recovery Installer v.5
- Firmware 4.0.2.A.0.58 Enhanced
I installed the flashtool, fastboot and xperia play drivers from the install folder of flashtool, and installed the USB Flash Driver(Gordons Gate)
I activated debugging mass storage and followed the tutorial 100%. I am running win7 64 on my pc
Upon launching Flashtool I selected the firmware for flash and proceeded to connect my phone while holding back. Everything seemed to be fine, the flashtool began doing its thing and progressed to 40% completion before freezing up and my phone disconnecting from the pc. Windows reported Unknown Device, driver error.
Now a little info on my recollection of the flashtool info, i wish I had taken a screen shot but at the time I didnt know I would need it. So what I recall from the info was that it had progressed to a system file install of some sort, it had completed about 6-10 files and that I found it interesting that the phone info it reported seemed to show a 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware. That is if I was reading it correctly.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flashtool, drivers, pc companion, I tried older versions of flashtool, but nothing seems to be correcting the unknown device problem. I did multiple restarts/ reboots of both the phone and pc in the process, literally trying everything I could to get it to re connect properly. To no avail.
Now the phone itself, when i try to power it on i get a flashing LED, I am color blind unfortunately But I am 90% sure its a flashing red light.
If I attempt to plug it in my pc installs the SEMC Flash Device driver and I get a green steady charging light. After approximately 30 seconds my phone displays its logo for a few seconds followed by what appears to be a picture of a phone with a triangle warning sign with an exclamation mark in it. That displays for maybe 10 seconds and my pc errors flashing an unknown device - driver issue and the phone led goes back to flashing red.
If there is any other info you need please feel free to ask, ill do my best. And again, thank you so much for the help.

Just figured I would add that I would like to get the bootlader unlocked as well. So if there is any way to incorporate fixing my issue with getting the bootloader unlocked that would be fantastic.
Also I found this from another persons post and made some edits to it so it is as close to what mine said as possible! Besides date time stamp that is.

Also I had found this thread before I posted but the information included is extremely vague. I PM the OP in hopes for some help as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252038

Ok so I picked up my phone and tried hitting the power button and I got a different result now.
For some reason, after letting it sit untouched for almost 24 hours the power button now causes a small vibration and logo screen very briefly, but then flashes that phone and exclamation sign symbol and goes dark again.
To be honest im rather scared to try and do anything with it without guidance at this point now.
I really dont want to brick this phone permanently. And am too inexperienced to feel comfortable just randomly trying to reflash.
Is this normal for it to just stop showing red led and seemingly sort of fixing itself?

Any thoughts? Ideas? I just need some guidance so I dont brick this thing for good.. I miss my phone!!

[Q] Bricked Phone, Cannot Resolve Problems

Hi,
I've searched and found a few threads with information, but I'm unable to make any progress with resolving my issue of a bricked phone due to SEUS 2.3.3 update. The phone is unlocked and rooted. The update process started but didn't finish and no on-screen instructions came up so I assumed it hadn't worked, but the phone won't turn on since.
I'm trying to use binary's flashtool to resolve the bricking issue, however I'm unable to make any progress as the device drivers are incorrect. I've uninstalled them and tried to re-install manually and automatically and both of these methods fail.
I'm using the same desktop running windows 7 which I originally used to unlock/root the phone successfully but windows is now saying the S1 BootLoader device driver cannot be found or installed despite having the correct files on the computer and trying several times.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Driver problem resolved.

19/053/2011 12:53:47 - INFO - turn on Unknown Sources and Debugging
I'm unable to turn the phone on (the green light will flash for a second at around 1/2 normal brightness). Debugging and unknown sources were on when the phone was working before the update but I presume the update has changed this.
Is there any way for me to resolve the issue?
1.) You are using the right package?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126358
This package was updated, so please re-download to be sure you have the right package.
2.) if this doesn't work, please be sure that you don't use a USB-HUB etc. If you use a desktop PC i advice to use the BACKSIDE usb ports.

I had that problem flashing Xperia Neo. I uninstall all Adobe Flash Player and install last version and X10Flashtool worked ok.
I bricked my phone today. But it's solved now. I used Jarpelea's unbrick pack. I use fastboot instead of flashtool because I find that it is easier.

Ah k, thought he had same problem like me, sorry then.

triangle with yellow exclamation mark

hi guys i need help asap been trying to research for three or four hours now and i am completely stuck.
The story is i have an arc s generic uk model which was on .42 firmware. however obviously being rooted and stuff i removed system apps etc and i recently i got the ota notifcation for the newer update which obviously cannot be installed unless the firmware is untouched.
now i backed everything up so thats not a problem. I decided to flash .42 firmware via wotanclient and well my phone was fully charged. after flashing had finished i disconnected the usb switched on my device and i got the yellow exclamation mark with the triangle. I found a thread whereby SEUS solved this problem but for me SEUS is saying installation failed please ensure battery is fully charged.
I tried to flash a generic us .42 firmware and well im having no luck. Ill attach the log to this post. im not sure if this error is because of the lt18a and lt18i differences or if it is something else. I also tried doing a straight flash to .62 firmware via wotan but i keep getting errors and im trying to download the ftf file but im having no luck. i dont care about root anymore as long as i can get my phone running again. help me please ive been trying for hours and im stuck. even if i put my phone on charge im in a boot loop to the exclamation point and back all over agian.
thanks in advance.
willing to donate to anyone that helps me solve my problem.

I've got my phone running however all I did was root my phone and now I can't install the .62 ota update. It keeps failing and I haven't done anything at all apart from root.
Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk
Hey,
When you say it's failing, are you still getting the sin error?
Which version are you using?
I was getting the exact issue on my UK (tmobile) Arc, but I managed to get it working after using the top .62 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330314
If you've unlocked your bootloader, OTA updates won't work.
Geef
That happened with me once, I accidentaly flashed an LT15a firmware on my LT15i. Just flashed the right firmware again and it worked tho.
dude try the old flash tool

Is My Xperia Play DEAD? BRICKED? SAVABLE? HELP!

Noob here.
I have tinkered with my Play many times over the years and think I may have finally killed it. I signed up on here to see if anyone has any ideas as to if it is savable.
Here are the facts so far... (at least what I can remember that I've done?)
I have a US Verizon Xperia Play. (I think r800x maybe?... I don't know for sure?)
It's a little over a year old. (Bought around February 2011 or so.)
I found a way to root it just after I got it. (Don't remember if I ever unlocked bootloader or not?)
Enjoyed the phone up until about a month or two ago and then it started to really lag. (Too many apps, etc.)
A found a method somewhere on the Web about using Link2SD and partitioning my SD card with a 1 GB partition for apps, etc.
I performed the partitioning and used Link2SD and the phone seemed to perform quite a bit better.
After a week or two, my phone really started to lag again.
This time it appeared that GO Launcher or one of the GO apps/widgets that I like to use might be causing it. (Possibly due to Link2SD, or not?)
I downloaded ADW Launcher to test and it seemed to perform better. (Though I do like the GO Launcher and related apps/features)
This is where the problems really started... (I know... I'm an idiot in advance!) :silly:
I decided that I WANTED the GO "stuff" so...
I backed up all of my apps using Titanium Backup
I backed up both partitions (1GB partition for Link2SD apps and 7GB partition for data) of the SD card to my Mac HD.
I then went to the privacy settings on the phone and chose to wipe the phone back to factory (or whatever the terminology was)
The phone went through a process (don't remember what exactly) and then started up asking for activation, etc.
The phone activated and then force quit because of the setup wizard. (I think I remember de-bloating the setup wizard with TB in the past)
I then had a black screen with a status bar showing I had 3G access. (I think because there was no Launcher installed after wiping the phone?)
I even got a couple of notifications from my Google calendar during this time and could dismiss them but could not access any other part of the phone aside from the notification bar.
I think I was able to get only part of the Google features working before the setup wizard force closed because I could get the calendar notifications but could not send a Launcher to my phone from the Google Play store (it said my account needed to be accessed from the phone in order to push apps from the Web).
From here I started to freak out a little, and began researching threads here on the forum and elsewhere on the Internet.
I've tried EVERYTHING I could find and have only made the matter worse.
I tried using the Sony PC Companion. Since I have a Mac, I installed it on a Windows 7 virtual machine and set the VM to accept all devices plugged into the USB ports. I clicked the repair phone option in PC Companion and went through the steps. All seemed to be working fine until I plugged my phone in holding the back button and the program ran for a second trying to do something and then stopped and popped up a message saying that “There is no software available for your phone” and “Sony Update Engine doesn’t have software available for your phone.”
I then tried using WotanClient/Server. I registered with the Web site and purchased a 1.99 EUR credit so that I could use the software to flash my phone to stock. Unfortunately, the Client software continues to show 0 credits when I in fact DID purchase the credit online. I sent an email to the WotanServer support email.
I then tried using flashtool and downloaded several diffierent stock/generic .ftf files and none of them would finish flashing the phone. They would all hang up at “ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="SECURITY_CLASS";ERR_STATIC="SIN_HEAD_VER";ERR_DYNAMIC="Failed to verify sin header";” and then the flash would abort.
About this time, give or take a few more tries at fixing the phone, the splash screens would no longer show up when the phone was on, and I could no longer access the "launcher-less" phone. However, I could still hold either the back or search buttons and plug in the phone to access the different modes (green light/blue light).
Reading that it might be the OS I’m using (Windows 7 in a VM), I switched to my wife’s Windows 7 laptop and had ALL the same issues described above. Thinking maybe it was Windows 7, I installed Windows XP in a virtual machine on my Mac and still had ALL the same issues.
In addition to trying multiple versions of Windows and multiple computers, I downloaded, re-downloaded, installed, and re-installed drivers on all of these machines thinking drivers might be the cause.
After all was said and done and tried on my slightly inexperienced noob part, now the phone will only flash a red light about every 3 seconds when I try to connect it in either of the flashing modes. If I try to normal power up the phone, I get three red flashes every few seconds. The only way I can get the phone back into flash mode (green light) is by running repair on the PC Companion (and this only works sometimes). When PC companion asks me to plug the phone in with the back button, it recognizes the Xperia Play, goes into download mode for a brief second, and then pops up the same message of “no software available for your phone.” And the phone still does not work. If I unplug the phone and then try to plug it back in, it goes back to the blinking red light.
I did get a response back from WotanServer saying that "everything should be fine" and "there was a connection problem" and to "try again." Unfortunately, PC Companion is the only thing that can access my phone (kinda) right now, so I cannot try the WotanClient again. Although, I have a feeling that since the email basically said that “they don’t know why” and “it should be working now “ and to “try again,” that it likely will still not work.
So finally to my Q?…
Is this a completely dead phone now? Is there a chance of resurrecting it? Is there a place that someone could direct me that could help in resolving this issue? I have been everywhere on the Internet, so I would appreciate help that would guide me in a solution that actually works! Lol!
I have seen LOTS of similar situations all over this forum as well as others, but for some reason, I don’t seem to be having the success that others have had.
HHHEEELLLPPP!!! :crying:
And once again, I know I'm a noob and probably did something horribly wrong, so please... take it easy on me! Lol!
EDIT: If I try to connect in flash mode and leave the phone plugged in, the phone will randomly connect in flash mode (green light) after a few minutes and then after a few more minutes, it will disconnect and go back to flashing the red light avery few seconds.
Also, during this time (while in flash mode), I DID manage to get the WotanClient to see the phone again and started the process, but the Client still says that I have 0 credits even though the email from support says that it might have been a connection problem. Does anyone have a WotanServer credit I could log into with and try?

I seem to be able to leave the usb connected and remove the battery and while holding the back button, putting the battery back in and after several attempts, it will connect in flash mode (green light).
I still can't flash with anything though (PC Companion, flashtool). and after a few minutes, the phone automatically disconnects from flash mode and goes back to the blinking red light.
And I still cannot get a credit to show up in WotanClient so I can try that method.

I have gotten different ERRORs from different ftf files that I have tried to flash. But collectively, NOTHING works except the Xperia_2011_FreeXperia_ALL.ftf flash
Am I just flashing the wrong ftf files. I have tried probably 6 or 7 different ones. I just wish the WotanClient thing would work as that seems to be how many people have fixed their bricked Xperia Plays.

As a matter of fact I can [get into fastboot].
Funny thing though is that in order to get into either mode, I have to remove the battery while it is plugged in and then hold down the corresponding key while inserting the battery and the corresponding light will then light up. That seems to be the only way to get into the modes. And sometimes this does't work, but it seems to work more than not.
Is there something I can do from the fastboot mode?

And I don't know if it is still considered a boot loop since I can no longer get the Sony Ericsson or Android splash screens anymore. But I still can access both flash and fastboot modes (green and blue) which I assume is a good thing?

If your phone still shows reaction like fastboot mode and flashmode is Working then you can save your phone
Change your phone for 30 minutes, go to flash mode, flash an ftf using flashtool.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!
I do have insurance on the phone but I don't want to have to pay $99 bucks to fix something that appears to be fixable for free.
Here is a screenshot of a log file while trying to flashtool. This is similar to what I get every time I try to flaw no matter the system or .ftf files used.

Sorry the screenshot came out so small. I'm still learning how this forum works. Hopefully someone will still be able to help me? I'm getting real close to giving up and claiming the phone on insurance. I need a new phone ASAP and the only phone I have as a spare is my old Cchocolate Touch "dumb" phone and Verizon wants me to switch data plans in order to temporarily use it. And that would get me out of my "grandfathered" unlimited data plan.
Very frustrated!!!

Here is a successful flash using flashtool to flash Xperia_2011_FreeXperia_ALL.ftf which is supposed to relock a bootloader, if I am correct? This ftf flashes just fine and says to unplug and start my phone, which obviously doesn't work because there is still a problem.
Yet no matter what I flash, I get errors. I flashed two different r800x ftf files from this post and this was the result.

I have gotten different ERRORs from different ftf files that I have tried to flash. But collectively, NOTHING works except the Xperia_2011_FreeXperia_ALL.ftf flash that I posted the results from in this response (above).
Am I just flashing the wrong ftf files. I have tried probably 6 or 7 different ones. I just wish the WotanClient thing would work as that seems to be how many people have fixed their bricked Xperia Plays.
I am about at the end of my wits. I am 75% of the way through with an insurance claim, just holding off on the submit button to see if I can still save $100 bucks.
Tried another USB cable just in case. Still no luck.
well if you havnt effed it up to bad from all that flashing you can adb push a launcher to the phone
Just wondering, can you get to fastboot? Turn off phone, hold search, plug in usb. It's a blue light.

As a matter of fact I can.
Funny thing though is that in order to get into either mode, I have to remove the battery while it is plugged in and then hold down the corresponding key while inserting the battery and the corresponding light will then light up. That seems to be the only way to get into the modes. And sometimes this does;t work, but it seems to work more than not.
Is there something I can do from the fastboot mode?

I probably could have when I first "factory wiped" the phone because I could still access the notification bar, received Google calendar notifications, and had 3g connection.
Unfortunately now, whenever I try to start the phone it just gives a quick buzz and the red light flashes three times. I'm thinking that I'm beyond launcher problems now.
I also had some problems with flashong ftf files, then i tried the 0.59 enhanced ftf and that worked

Do you have a link to that file by chance?
So if flashmode isnt working correctly you should try it with fastboot mode.
There you can try out different things like push an update.zip to the phone

As I said, I am sort of a noob. Sorry for the inexperience. If you could point me to that ftf file you mentioned or a thread discussing methods of recovering the phone using fastboot, I would really be a happy camper!!!
Okey I found the 0.59 enhanced, that worked for me. I tried other ftf files, but when I tried flashing them my device also disconnected.
EDIT: oh sorry you jave a r800x

[Q] Xperia play stuck on SOny Ericcson screen needs to be flashed with stock rom.

Well it begins as always.... with a borded guy inside his house on a weekend tinkering with his old phone. So i decided to root my phone since i would be replacing it in 2/3 months any way, and i managed to succesfully zergrush it, and it was unlocked. So being as happy as i was i got greedy and decided to flash it with 4.0.3 beta for xperia play. In retrospect that was not my smartest move yet. So i got clockworkmod and the zip file which was
DooMLoRD-PLAY-GSM-ICS-4.0.3-ROM-LEAKED-v01
I than proceeded to flash it which was also succesfully (using the clockwork recovery menu flash from zip file). BUt than after restarting my phone it just stays at Sony Ericsson and does nothing else (left on for 10 hours) while sleeping last night.
So when i woke up i decided to give it a shot at fixing it and installed FLASHTOOL. I downloaded the stock kernel.R800i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic. And tried to flash it. Now first of all Flashtool would keep telling me to install the drivers. I somehow managed to finally get them installed at which point it would continue to flash except it would reach a point giving me an error. CASE IN POINT bellow.

AFterwhich nothing happens.
Also tried to reflash it using fastboot boot command which keeps giving me (waiting on device message)
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play R800I
Had: 4.0.2.A.0.42
CLockworkmod 5 i believe
FLashtool 0.9.7.0
So now can anyone help me with getting this phone working again. Assume i don't have USB debugging in which case give me an idea on how to flash it without the usb debugging. Thank you all in advance for the wonderfull gift of knowlidge.
Best Regards.

Indeed
Indeed you are wise to suggest such action. It appears as if that was my problem. However i am able to get 4.0.2 a 0.58 Enchanted on my play but i cannot get the stock 0.42 version to run. Interestingly however the doomlord root works on 58 even though it should only work on 42. And for the life of me i cannot figure out why i can't get the ICS to work on my phone. I am thinking perhaps the kernel is not flashing with it since i keep hanging on boot :S At any rate my phone is useable again but not with ICS

[ArcS] Processing of loader.sin finished with errors

I know, there are plenty of topics for this error, but I didn't found a solution.
I tried the following...
- repair option in PC Companion --> error 2003 (even if I could repair the unlocked phone few weeks ago)
- FlashTool (newest version) stops with this error:

I can flash new kernels (Lupus & CM12.1 kernel), but if I want to go back to the .587 ROM, I can't flash them through FlashTool. Any idea? Bricked?
I always connected the phone after the popup which told me to do so. I also installed all the drivers - the phone is recognized in flash & fastboot mode (using Windows 7).
i have the same ****
try to install an older version http://www.mediafire.com/download/2ut97v5aszylr4w/flashtool-0.9.18.1-windows.exe

You got an error because of latest version of flashtool.
Use only flashtool
18.5 - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8q4pCAugmPgZWk0ZkFSTHk4a0E/view
or
18.6 - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzVQf67OZ9NtSnlHZEtWTnZ1LWc/view
or
8.0 - http://www.mediafire.com/download/ucczmw37815j2gv/flashtool-0.9.8.0-windows.exe
It worked! Note that Avast thinks that these versions of Flashtool are infected with some malware. Avoid that somehow
I can confirm this worked for me too. I was in the same situation.
My buddy in Canada mailed me his 2011 Xperia Arc as he wanted me to gain root on it. I did that, then unlocked the bootloader (this was carrier branded to Rogers). I had to go the long route for the BL unlocking (the whole "install this program, buy these credits, touch terminals under a panel with a paperclip, etc"). Then I installed CWM Recovery, then installed CyanogenMod 10, Android 4.1.2, but it was buggy as hell and was randomly rebooting. So I decided to try some new ROMs, hopefully more stable. BUT all the ones I wanted required I flash build 4.1.B.0.587 first. So I got the FTF build file needed, got Flash Tool 0.9.19.8, but kept getting the exact same error message, "ERROR - Processing of loader.sin finished with errors." So I tried Sony's Flash Tool, Emma. Then that told me the phone had a locked BL! WTF! I double checked, and that was not true. So then I tried Sony's PC Companion, and their server went down RIGHT after I started getting somewhere... FFUUUUUU!!! So then I found this thread... Got Flash Tool 0.9.18.6, got it all prepped to go (FTF file, drivers, etc), and fired it off... FAILED again. Tried again, this time with phone plugged in from the GET GO and NOT from when Flash Tool tells me to. And guess what, I was able to flash this stock ROM WITHOUT the phone actually being in Flashmode. LOL! What I mean is, when Flash Tool prompted me to hold Back and then plug in the phone, the phone was already plugged in... then BAM, it started working!
Either way, I'm now happy cos I can try out some more stable ROMs.
I hope anyone else in that situation finds this and gets some joy too.
Thanks for all the answers. I ended up installing Legacy Xperia CM 12.1. The only system beside .587 which has an acceptable speed on my Arc S - and up to date!
