Is there an easy way to pin music in Google Play music? In the older version of the app, you can go to you library, press menu then press "select in device music" (something like that) and it would give you a menu where you can easily select albums to pin. That option is gone in the new version of the play music app.
Click the three dot button. Then theres an option to keep on device with the Pin icon.

Yeah I know that. There used to be an easier way. Looks like the took that out.
I made a "thumbs up" playlist that I pinned the playlist.
Then, whenever I "thumbs up" a song, it gets auto downloaded and, well, has a convenient play list.
Of course, if you go hog wild with the thumbs up, that might not work for you.

Just wondering for those of you who have the device already, have you guys found some neat features/tricks using 4.0 that haven't been documented or heavily advertised?
I would love to make a list of these features for other users to explore...
Lets get this started
List:
Reserved........
I know it's documented, but it was still a surprise to me - you can now finally delete apps straight from the app drawer, by dragging them just as if you were going to place them on the desktop, but then putting them in the recycle bin on the top.
No affiliation with apple. Or siri.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 which is in the wrong country.
Nobody's talking about the search app. It's way better than the one in Gingerbread. Much easier to find stuff in your phone : music, app, sms, docs, etc. The old one was returning web search suggestion in 90% of the result... useless.
Search in browser let's you edit suggestion if you want to add something to it. But we lost popular web site suggestion
Just read it on Pocketnow but you can make folders in the favourites bar. Apologies if obvious.
When in the stock browser and you change orientation, tap the screen to make it rotate.

which runs TouchWiz, so it's not stock Android
Rotate the phone to the right whilst in any stock app (so the speaker grill and front camera are on the right). Notice that the back, home and task switch buttons have moved to the top of the screen so that they stay on the right.
When using an ics app hold down on an icon in the action bar to get a description of what it does

Not heavily advertised, but it should be:
The quick control in the browser. Almost the same as on honeycomb. Activate it in the labs settings of the browser. Love it!

NICE find! Thanks!
This is known about, however you said undocumented and I haven't a single document for the Nexus/ICS apart from on one which came with the phone, telling me how to fix the battery.
Hold the volume down and power key, and you take a screen capture. Which is very handy on occasions
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
If you tap the volume button which makes the volume bar appear, you can then press the icon to the left of the volume bar and it toggles between ring and vibrate.

In settings/about phone. Tap repeatedly on the android version number (4.0...) then a little android appears. Keep ur finger on it and it grows into a screen animation.
If u didn't know about this,I guess u r now thinking this is a joke. Or is it?
Need someone to test; try swiping the web pages up/down using 2 fingers

Me and my girlfriend started using kik because she gets bad signal in her house.. And I was wondering is there anyway to mod it to where the screen will come on when you recieve a message?

there might be a way to use a tasker script to do it. I wouldn't know where to begin on trying to mod the apk to make that work.

Man, this is new territory for me. I bought Tasker ages ago but never really played with it. It really is powerful! Anyways, I'm trying to figure this out for you and I think I have something that'll work here. Let me describe what I've got so far and we can see if it works with you.
There is a plugin for Tasker called Secure Settings. Install that, 'cause you can't use the Tasker "ScreenOn" task with 4.1.X or 4.2.X ROMs.
When you're in Tasker, under the "Tasks" tab, click on the plus sign (bottom middle).
Type in a name you want to use for the task (I chose "Screen On").
Click on the blue plus sign to add an action. Click on the "Plugin" button, then on Secure Settings. Click on "edit" on the configuration section.
Choose "Wake Device." For the wake type, I cose Screen and Keyboard Lights On. For duration, that's more of your choice, but I'd say 10 seconds would give you plenty of time to see the screen light up.
Click on the floppy to save and bring you back to Tasker interface. Click on the check mark, then on the other check mark, and now you have a task called "Screen On."
Ok, now this is where I can't test this function, but you can see if it works for you. I don't have Kik, so I can't test this. but you do, so you can! What I'm doing is setting up Tasker to check for notifications for Kik; here's what I did to set it up:
First off, you need to enable Tasker's Accessibility Service in settings. Go to Settings --> Accessibility. In the Services section, you should see "Tasker - JB." Click on it and enable it.
Go back to Tasker, then to the Profiles Tab
Add new profile (plus sign at bottom middle)
Insert Name (I chose "Kik Starter")
Choose Event
Choose "Notification" under "UI"
Click on the Icon next to "Owner Application," then scroll and find Kik Messenger.
You can also click on Title. Modifying this will make sure the screen only turns on for GF1 and not GF2, you just have to see what Kik gives in terms of a notification message "New message from GF1" or whatever. If the notification text is the message itself "Ur so hot honey," you can't use this function to distinguish texts between people.
Now you choose which task you want this condition to invoke. Choose the "Screen On" task you created in the previous bullet-point list.
Save all the changes and you should be good to go.
Now, I got held up on the fact that the Tasker notification (which you can disable in settings) says "No Active Profiles." I tried toggling the various Tasker settings for about 20 minutes before I searched online (should always be my first solution to any problem). What I found in this XDA thread is the following:
Basically event based profiles will activate but won't stay activated , unlike non-event based profiles
Click to collapse
So that means that Event based profiles (like this one) aren't considered "active" in the same way that the "on from 2pm-4pm" profiles are active. It should still work (have your GF send a Kik message), but it won't show up as "active."
I really hope my instructions are easy to follow. I'm now going to try to think of more fun things to do with Tasker.

One thing that annoys the crap out of me is constantly having to choose "what app would you like to open this with". I select an app and choose "always". Yet going back to my S3 the damn dialogue box opens up again. It seems to happen whenever an app is upated and in many cases after a reboot.
YT links , Tapatalk links , Shortcuts with launchers etc. Is there any way to make these choices stick ?

Go to the application manager in settings and scroll down and find all the apps
which don't save their default settings properly and click "Clear Defaults".
You can also click on "clear data", "clear cache" and reboot the phone for best results.
Good luck!
On Play Store there is an app called Default app Manager. It works well and easy to use. Instead of going to each app to clear or set default, you can do it all from the app.

Don't know but mine is silly loud on alarms and tones.
Sound definitely comes out of both speakers during incoming calls and notifications. However, when choosing a sound in the settings, it does only come from the bottom speaker.

I have attached my prj.xml I have literally never shared a Tasker project so I hope this is sufficient! If you have any questions, let me know! Just remember to set the ringtone in Android settings to "none".

Sure thing! If you haven't already, you're going to want to download the tasker app. Once you've installed that, open it and (like the previous post mentioned) go to its preferences and disable "beginner mode" under the "general" section. Then go back to the main screen and long press on the home icon in the bottom left corner. Tap "import" and then navigate to wherever you downloaded my profile and click on it. That should import the project. Once the project is imported, you should see "Phone Ringtone" next to the home icon on the main Tasker screen. Tap on that and it should bring up 4 profiles. At the top, tap on the tab that says "Tasks" and that should bring up a list of 4 tasks. Tap on the one labeled "Play Ringtone" then click on "Music Play". To the right of "File", tap the icon that looks like a magnifying glass, then navigate to the file you want to use as your ringtone. After that, make sure all the profiles are enabled on the main screen, then go to Android settings and set your ringtone to "None" so you won't have a ringtone AND music playing each time someone calls you. Hope this helps!

As I commented in another thread, I imported this project, made a test call to my cell phone with Google Voice/Hangouts from my PC, and it works and sounds great! Thanks again!
I believe there is an actual issue here.
If you play music and have the notification selection for SMS or phone calls open, and pause the music and select a notification or ringtone, it will play from both speakers and be loud and sound great.
If you play it again, it will suddenly only play from the bottom speaker. If this is intended, it's not a good decision in my opinion. It's way too quiet.
so this XML fixes the issue and makes ringtone play via both speakers?
because i rooted my phone, didnt find a solution, restored back to stock. just want to make sure this works, to go through the rooting proccess again,.
I've been wracking my brain over this one. When I install new apps, they aren't sorted in alphabetical order, they're just thrown on the end of a list. When I uninstall apps, the blank space stays there until I manually tell it to sort things alphabetically. I've never seen this on an Android phone, but there must be an option for things to be sorted automatically. It seems quite frankly dumb that they would remove that feature and relegate it to a 3rd party app instead.

If you are using Home without app tray, long press on any open area and when you see the red X next to the icon, you can move the apps in and out of folders at will. When you are done, hit home. If you are using Home with an app tray, open app tray, hit the three dot menu in the top right and select Arrange Apps, and move apps a will, when completed, hi the check mark in the top right and your good to go. :good:

There's a lot of complaining about this. I see it both ways, and think auto-arrange should be an option, not default behavior.
I've spent the last week slowly installing apps and arranging my home screen. I do a lot of multitasking, and having the last installed app at the end really helped me find that app I just installed an hour ago before I got that phone call, whose name I forgot and am very happy it's not automatically burried with the rest.
My workflow has been to install the app, then drag it into the most appropriate home screen folder. It's really nice to quickly check the end of the drawer for non-alphabetical new additions, drag them to the correct folders, then finally manually toggle the re-sorting. Once I check the end of the drawer and see it's alphabetical, I know I'm totally organized.
Everybody's different. This is one 'bug' that I kinda prefer.
