Hey Guys, I am in the process of unrooting my phone. What is the "Newest" best, and safest way to do this that works? Also I have a Mac now if I could have any steps to do on a Mac. Thanks
I tried QBKings way but alot of the links no longer work. I did try a method from android central and these are my results
-Windows XP 32
-Removed old Samsung Drivers (restarted computer) and installed the latest ones (restarted computer again)
-tar file is already downloaded on my computer
-Right clicked Run as Admin for Odin 3.07
-Put my phone in download mode, plugged in and I got a com with a number
-Chose PDA and chose the .Tar file from Android Central Samsung-Updates.com-SPH-L710_SPR_1_20121019105628_mflxsj3ffx.zip
-In the box in the lower left corner I see message that says added and as and please wait then my Odin says not responding, every time
-I have downloaded another .tar file that was posted but I got a not responding again
-I then unplugged my phone restarted the phone with recovery so I have a phone to use. I unplugged the USB Cable, re ran as admin Odin again without anything plugged in at all... I added the .Tar file under PDA and immediately it says added, please wait, do not remove cable and then not responding at the top of the application
Any fixes for this?

I would just find a stock ROM tar and flash that with Odin or heimdall
Look for sextape thread, he has the stock ROM tar file. I think you have to use stock recovery as well, I maybe wrong on that.
Edit: Found this, it might help since you said you are on a Mac. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41603428

Wouldn't the easiest way to unroot be to install Voodoo Rootkeeper and hit the Temp Un-root option. As a bonus, if you back up the root using Voodoo you can re-root with one click later.

I need to downgrade to 2.1 but I've found nothing useful as to how to do it
I factory reset my phone but that didn't help
all it did was mess up my USB connection from my epic to pc
I tried re-installing the update zip file, but it aborts it halfway through
can someone PLEASE help me?
Flashing back to 2.1 has been covered extensively, please use the search button next time!!
1) Installing this will erase all of your saved apps (unless you back them up). Any PURCHASED apps will be saved in the app market and will be available for re-download once you sign into your google account.
2) If you are having issues with 2.2, or don't like something that changed, or want to go back to stock 2.1, or just want to complain about this leak version, then here are directions to flash BACK to 2.1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700#Odin_Stock_Flashing
This will let you download Odin and the included victory.pit file that you place into the ".pit" section in Odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794138&highlight=DG27
This allows you to download various versions of roms. Download the DI18 file.
Put your phone in download mode (according to directions in first link), and open Odin. Then connect the phone to the computer, Odin should then recognize it. Place the .pit file and the .tar files into their corresponding areas. On the left the ONLY boxes that should be checked are "Auto reboot" and "F. Reset Time" then press start and let it go, should take about 5 minutes or so.
Then there you go, you have 2.1 again. Depending on what you want to do you can either re-install the update.zip or Odin flash to Dk28, or just keep 2.1
see, the thing is. I CAN'T connect my Epic to my PC
there's something wrong with my Samsung drivers
I uninstalled the drivers, rebooted my pc, re-installed drivers, rebooted Epic, connected Epic to PC, and it STILL couldn't identify my Epic
I wasn't having issues with 2.2 (except that horizontal calibration)
this sucks, I really have no clue what to do :'(
thanks for the reply though
No Prob, if you have clockwork and are running the rfs file system which is the default, which you probably are, unless you've changed it. If you have clockwork mod 2.xxx, you're good to install this and flash.
Here is the link:
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/stock.epic.DI18.rom.update.zip
Instructions: Put on the Root of your SD card, and turn off your phone. Hold Camera, Volume Down, and Power and format data and cache. Then install zip from sd, and then click the stock.zip file on the root of your SD.
You're done .
One more thing:
**If you notice that your orientation sensor is off or not working properly,
Fix for orientation/auto-rotate problem in Epic 4G
***MUST BE ROOTED***
1. Download a terminal app from the market - (Android Terminal Emulator)
2. Enter one line at a time.
su
/system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha
3. Follow the onscreen directions, while making sure you device is flat.
pay attention to the bump at bottom on back.
After you're done, reboot.
I can't root clockwork b/c I can't connect my Epic to my PC :/
This might sound crazy but did you try ALL of the different usb ports on your computer? If not then try everyone of them it's a common problem my phone only works on one out of five.

Since you don't specify, I am going to assume your using the stock usb cable that came with the phone. The stock cable is good for almost nothing except for hooking it up to your wall charger (even though some may get it to work). I would suggest getting another micro usb cable and try again. I bought one online from monoprice.com for about $2 along with a cheap car charger, also about $2, and they both work fine.
Oh yeah restart your computer and phone too.

ok, first, thanks to everyone who replied
second, I bought a gigaware male USB-B wire and now my Epic connects to PC
however! I'm still trying to remove Froyo
I've tried rooting clockwork, but when I go to "RUN" to root
I get a message saying my phone isn't connected
If your goal is to remove froyo, then you need to follow whats in the second post by djbacon06... download odin, the DI18 tar file, and the pit file, making sure to follow the instructions

ok, I'm going to do this, thanks
I am running srf 1.2 with genocide. It has never really run good, I have had alot of buggy issues. I want to go back to stock eco5 and start over. I have the galaxy s drivers installed and when I plug my phone into the computer it recognizes it and it says removable disk f. So I know my computer sees it because I can transfer files to and from my computer.
My problem is when I put my phone into download mode and connect it to odin, odin never sees it. Also the windows wizard finds new software and installs it only when I am in download mode, but it never helps the issuee that odin can't see my phone.
Anyone have any ideas?
Did you try taking out your battery and then putting it back in then going into download mode.... also try a different cable
Take out ur battery and sd card
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yes i can get into download mode, then i plug in my phone and odin does not see it/no yellow square with a comm number in it.
i have to take my battery out to get out of download mode, so yes i have taken my battery out.
What is the point of taking your sd card out? Can you use odin with no sd card installed?
I don't think this matters but i am using an old laptop from 2002 it is a pentium 4 with xp on it.
Every time i plug the phone in the install wizard finds new hardware and installs something. That seems a little odd if i already have the drivers installed.
any one else have any more ideas?
I've never had any luck using a old computer...were u able to use odin in the past????....use the wiki and search for hardware reset and do it basically u press the small dot right underneath the camera but look it up for full details try it worked for me....aslo maybe try a new pc

Turn USB Debugging mode on. Plug phone into computer. Do not connect USB storage or charge yet. Your computer makes the connect noise. Now go to control panel>system>device manager and look in USB or Other for Samsung Android or unknown device. Click it and hit Update Drivers and choose from Windows Update. It will take a looooong time to find all the drivers. Reboot after just for insurance. Use that same USB port for Odin. Before that try all the ports. Odin on most computers only works on the port you used to install the drivers on.
If that still doesn't work grab Heimdall and I will walk you through that.
Ok so i tried a newer computer and let the windows wizard update all the drivers and yes it did take a really long time. But Odin apears to see my phone now!! the litttle box is yellow and it says comm 3.
So i have a few questions, I am kind of scared to press the start button because this is a fairly new phone and I don't want to brick it. I watched qbkings video on how to use odin to go back to stock. It seems pretty straight forward. I also downloaded the files provided in his links: The victory 8g pit file and the spd-d700-eco5-8bg rel file.
Do I need to be in usd debugging before I shut down and boot to download mode?
So when I hit start what happens if it hangs and doesn't move, what do i do?
If it says fail what do I do?
Will my phone be screwed if does not go through? Do i unplug the usb or take the battery out.
Will I have to reflash in cwm my custom rom?
Sorry for all the questions it is just I don't think my wife would be to happy if I told her I need a new phone.
Thanks

Its pretty straight forward once u press start don't touch ur phone its almost impossible to mess it up in odin I have never had it hang.....usb debugging doesn't matter cause ur in download mode....yes u will need to root again but with all the one click methods it should be easy...qbking makes great videos literally u can follow it step by step and u should be good hope u get it working..also it only takes about 1 to 2 mins in odin

So what happens if odin hangs up? What are the procedures for unhooking the phone? Is there a process that you are supposed to do?
If you're hung up on something like "Connecting to Service" before it starts pushing anything (boot.bin, sbl.bin etc...) then it should be safe to unplug.
If it's in the middle of flashing anything and you've forgot to uncheck re-partion, you're going to be screwed.
If you get a "phone-\ ! /-computer" icon, you can re-enter download mode and try again.
Odin takes an average of 3 minutes to flash. So give it time to complete.

Thanks guys, the file I downloaded from qbkings video is the latest eco5 tar file. When it was done downloading it was a compressed rar file. I am guessing you just leave it alone and don't uncompress it, right? Just plug it into odin as a rar file.
Yea don't unzip it or mess with it place it in a spot u can find it like maybe ur desktop once u click on the "phone" tab should see the tar file click it ....make sure the f reset is uncheck and hit start
Welcome let us kno if u have any problems

If its a .rar file don't flash it with odin download winrar and look inside the rar file before you extract it..... if there is a .tar or. md5 file inside then yes you need to extract it and flash the tar or md5 through odin ...... if it has stuff like "system and metainf" then you flash that through clockworkmod....
Ok now I am confused again. In the video he just puts the rar file in the pda section in odin. I tried that and it has the extention tar. So odin sees it as a tar file.
I also extracted the rar file to see what was in it.
There is a boot.bin,cache.rfs,datafs.rfs,factoryfs.rfs,modem.bin,param.lfs,recovery.bin,sbl.bin and zimage.
So now I am so confused. Do I just drop the rar file in odin? Or do I use some file in the rar archive in odin? The rar archive does not have a tar file in it, so that can't work. When I select the rar file under the pda section of odin it seems like it converts it to a tar file.
So now what do I do?
I'm new and I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong place or re-posting an old question, but I have been searching on this and other sites for days and haven't been able to find anything pertaining to my question, so sorry in advance If I'm not posting this correctly.
I have a rooted epic touch with rogue boot loader installed and UnNamed rom installed. I really liked the way it was running until I had some kind of malfunction happened and now the battery charge light won't shut off and the battery drains within a couple hours of standby time. the phone is only a couple months old and would like to take it to the sprint store as I'm assuming this is an obvious hardware issue. My problem is that my pc doesn't recognize my phone anymore so I can't flash back to stock and get rid of root, voiding my warranty. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling kies and stand alone drivers multiple times with no avail. I've tried with the battery and sd card removed and have also tried on multiple pc's (2 win7 and and xp machine). every time it says the drivers weren't installed successfully and to replace the device being connected.
My question: Is there a way to revert to stock off of the internal memory of the phone? I know there are zip roms you can flash from the boot loader but I was wondering if there was a way to flash a rom from zip and install the original boot loader as well as get rid of root? Any help I can get would be extremely appreciated and again I apologize if I am wasting anyone's time by asking in the wrong place or re-asking a question.
Ok so I downloaded the Calkin's_Stock_Rooted_EK02_ROM_v1.0 and got it on my sd card via dropbox. Flashed and now have a stock rom on it which I think is a step in the right direction.
The only thing is now I have clockwork boot loader and still rooted. and still not recognizing on pc. anyone know of an unrooted zip with original boot loader?
I couldn't get my PC to recognize either of my 2 E4GT's, each due to a different reason, both issues were resolved by going through each step in sfhub's debugging checklist:

This post is for the FAQ section:
Why is the install stuck waiting for device to be connected?
Your phone isn't being recognized by your PC as an Android device.
When the drivers are installed and the phone is properly recognized, you should see the following in start->run->devmgmt.msc
Code:
Android Phone
SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface
Modem
SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem
Until you get the SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface to show up, neither ADB nor this script will work.
Here is a debugging checklist:
1) dial ##UPST# (##8778#) in the dialer and verify AP (or ALL) is checked (if CP is checked, phone won't be recognized as an Android device)
2) restart the ADB server (choose Option G to stop the server, it'll get started automatically by the script)
3) verify USB Debugging is ENABLED
4) verify USB drivers are installed (Win7-64bit see below)
5) try a different usb cable
If you are in Win7-64bit try changing the default install location for the drivers:
If you see an error like this:
Try running the CMD prompt (or e4gtauto-sfx.exe) as Administrator. Right-click on the CMD icon (or e4gtauto-sfx.exe) and select "Run As", then select Administrator.
If that doesn't work, try disabling windows firewall.

I went down that list and everything seemed to be in order but still no recognition by pc. I kept uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and switching usb ports and it finally installed the drivers successfully long enough for odin to recognize it and to flash back to stock. As soon as it was done the machine stopped recognizing it again. Lucky break I guess. So I can now return it to sprint and deal with the hardware issue.
I would still like to find a zip file like the tar that I flashed that installs stock recovery and non rooted ek02 rom and kernel from cwm, if that's even possible.
Thanks Godswrath, for helping me out.
You could use wifi explorer to get files on to sd card and mobile Odin to flash the tar file back to stock....

the odin will detect your device anyway if you are willing to come at the shop ill fix your SGY
Make sure you have installed KIES
then connect your phone via USB cable to pc (MAKE sure it showed your device is installed and ready to use)
Next thing to do is.
exit KIES
meaning press CTR+DEL then go to process tab look for KIES and hit end task
exit all Active application in system tray and also Anti virus.
I'm always stuck at the boot.img or connection or NAND write. My phone doesnt show the bar showing the process completion. Stuck in custom ROMs. x(

last Q. my com have a recycle .exe if ur familiar, can this be harm my SGY,
cause it broke my SDcard,
My experience on flashing
Since now its my second time flashing an SGY , first i unbricked my classmates SGY on Android 2.3.5 (B'coz she tried flashing another custom ROM with her custom ROM(Very common sense but she still do it so she end up bricking her phone, then she ask help for me ) )
Before i flashed i charged my SGY to 100 % (Fully charged)
Then i wiped my micro USB connector with a soft cloth
Then i turned off my phone
Then i pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del(Windows task manager) then i clicked "Processes"
then i ended up the Kies and ADB Session(i don't have it with my family PC)
Then i logged off my user then i logged on my dad's user account (Since he's only the one that has the administrator priveleges)
Then i downloaded Odin v 1.85 from SGY FAQ's here
Then i downloaded Doky's DXKK4 Wipe Pack for me (Since its the factory firmware of my phone)
Then i opened up Odin
And i pressed Power+Volume up+Home(i waited for 2 seconds before i release home button)
And i pressed Volume up on my phone (ODIN MODE)
Then i started selecting the valid DXKK4 files like PDA,PHONE/MODEM File,CSC
Then after that all i pressed "Start"
Then it stucked a bit on system.img file but after that all a green "PASS"surprised me then i started to jump jump jump (becase i successed flashing my phone)
Then the last message in the message box is "Successful 1/0 Failed"
Then my phone restarts,Then after i setup the phone i setup my CSC , for me i select XTC because ,my phone is an open line then it factory resetted again , then i set it up again , Now my phone is in the DXKK4 firmware again YAY ! Refer to Doky's thread on the Development section for full instructions before flashing
Try vaccuming your USB Ports or try an earlier version of Odin for our SGY
if you're running windows 7. You can type the combo button ctrl alt del and you will see "start task manager" and click on the processes and find all programs kies named like "Kieshelper" i think there's three different kies running in the processes. End process it and find your antivirus in the processes. Example is "egui" for eset, "avg" for avg, and many more. If you cant find your antivirus, just disable it, or if it can't be disabled, just uninstall it, and reboot. After reflashing, just install it again. Please note that KIES and ANTI VIRUS must be completely closed. Make sure that you have kies installed in your computer, if an antivirus is open, there might be chance that you'll receive a fail in odin.

before flashing its either format your SD Card using your phone..
How to ? Go to Settings>SD and Phone storage>Unmount SD Card(Wait for the status on notification bar if SD is safe to remove)>Then the "Format SD Card" option will be available, Tap on that >Format SD card>Erase All
Then Your SD will be formatted, so Backup first
Before flashing perform a factory reset
How to? Go To Settings>Privacy>Factory data reset>Then it will prompt you if you want to format the SD card , Just put a check on that but don't forget to backup first>Then follow the next procedure for factory resetting then after that, Power off your phone then Press Power+Home+Volume down then a warning will appear , Press volume up to proceed to ODIN MODE then connect your phone then select the appropiate files for your phone then click "Start" then see your message box on the left bottom to see what's happening on flashing your phone

you dont need kies its a waste of time
you just need to install samsung usb drivers
full instructions on how to use odin on my firmware thread at the top of the 5360 dev section
Hi,
I have downloaded odin 3.09 on my laptop with Windows 8. Also the two files I need to use whilst rooting. Then ticked usb debugging box. Got tablet to odin mode and plugged into laptop. When I press start to root nothing happens. The com port sign is blue, I have kies 3 installed with usb drivers.
Totally lost now, I followed the instructions of what to do but my tablet won't root. I am in the uk and was hoping to root my note to the upgrade to kit kat instead of waiting ages for samsung to do it.
Has anyone got any ideas to please help me get my note rooted. Is there something different using windows 8. I have inserted usb drivers that was on the instruction page as well.??

I tried to root mine as well. Started Odin and seems all went well, but after reboot, "Rootchecker" still says that the device isn't rooted. I'm lost here as well. I hope someone with more experience can help. Thanks in advance.
root solution
hello i use to have the same problem,im runing 4.4.2 kk here is the solution pd,im not the the one who did this
here is the original thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2719750
Root Download Links:
TWRP: http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/lt03wifiue
Super SU Zip: http://download.chainfire.eu/396/Sup...erSU-v1.94.zip
After cf root:
1) Download TWRP 2.6.3.3 img.tar file and DONT unzip
2) Put tablet into Download mode and connect to Odin (You should already have Odin).
3) Un-tick the auto reboot option only and press the AP button and select the TWRP you downloaded and flash.
4) Once successful, power off tablet and reboot into recovery manually and flash Super SU zip.
5) Reboot...........
To flash new update:
What you need:
• Correct Drivers installed
• Odin: http://android.sc/download-odin-3-09/
• A good, solid USB cable
Thanks to @scrosler for the following guide:
1. Download Odin from the links
2. Extract the the .md5 file from the zip file you downloaded above.
3. Boot tablet into "Download" mode. You can do this by holding Power and Volume - (down) when the device is shut off. I note on this device it can be a little trickier so you may have to try a couple times. You should now see this on your tablet
4. Connect Tablet to PC using known good USB Cable
5. Start Odin and Press the "AP" button to load the tar.md5 file. This may take a while as it is also calculating the MD5 to ensure you have a good file. A bad file means bad issues and it wont let you flash it (good fail safe).
6. Once Odin sees the Tar and loads it completely AND Odin sees the tablet press the Start button to begin. Can takes about 5 to 10 minutes so be patient. Do NOT check or uncheck mark ANY other Options in Odin unless you know what you are doing!
7. Once it complete you will have a factory image on your tablet. Yay!
8. But we are not done. You may also want to, at this point, reboot to recovery and do a full data wipe. This method of Odin leaves the SD card and user data intact. To get into recovery hold Power and Volume + until you see the stock Android recovery. Select format Data, reboot. Boom, your tablet is like brand new!
Can anyone direct me to a site where I can download the correct usb driver?
I have an SM-P600 running 4.3 and I’m working with my wife’s Windows 7.0 tablet. Odin 3.09 is installed but I haven’t been able to find the correct drivers.
