One of the most popular features introduced Monday with Android 4.2 was a revamped camera/gallery app (that we got a peek at early). The camera introduces a new focus/settings UI (popping up with an "options ring" only when you need it), a refreshed gallery interface, and of course – Photo Sphere.
Photo Sphere, for those who missed it, allows users to capture 360° images of their surroundings a la Google Maps, using XML data in concert with an enormous JPG file to help you save an immersive photo experience of where you've been.
The interface, which is activated from the camera app, is an ethereal grid plane that will guide you with helpful blue dots to each frame needed for a full sphere. Besides viewing your spherical creations on your handset, you can upload the images to Google+ for a web-based 360 experience.
As I mentioned earlier, the downloadable camera/gallery app also comes with editing options. Many of these are options we saw debuted in Ice Cream Sandwich, but it's still worth taking a quick look.
Users can add general filters, frames, and contrast effects, in addition to custom cropping, rotating, mirroring, and a handful of other handy editing features.
The build also includes a slightly refreshed Gallery. It has the same launcher icon and overall functionality like swiping from the camera app to a "filmstrip view," but the UI is slightly updated from its 4.0 and 4.1 counterparts.
To get the new camera/gallery on your device, you'll first of all need to be rooted. Assuming your device is already rooted, you'll just need to download the zip below and flash as normal.
Note: Original credit goes to XDA and AndroidCentral Forums but the download below contains a camera/gallery build that we patched to allow users of non-Nexus devices to capture and view Photo Spheres.

Photsphere wants to work but i dont quite get it. It seems hard to line up the first dot sometimes and then where to go? The most i got was a few images stitched together, its not quite right yet or i am doing it wrong.
I am running slimbean 2.8

Sphere Not stitching well on i9100
Does any one get a nice stitch from sphere option?
I dont...
What is the max resolution of pictures? Sphere files seem to be much less detailed and sized in Sphere mode
I have been trying to get the old gallery2.apk from 4.1.2 to work in 4.2 The gallery itself works but the camera Force Closes. This is the error that occurs. It seems that this method has been discontinued in 4.2.
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: **android.hardware.Camera$Parameters.setCameraMode**
However it is possible to get it to work in 4.2 as this app has ported the ICS camera just fine.

Until recently this app by the same dev had the 4.1.2 camera working on 4.2. The latest update brought it up to the 4.2 gallery/camera.

Hopefully, a solution can be found. Anyone else have any ideas on how to approach this?
Are you using the Camera's lib files too?
You can't use CM camera on stock Android..
I have camera ics free (same dev as the jb+ camera) installed from the play store, it's very similar to the original jb camera and has all the video effects.

Using CM10.1 on my phone. I was able to find the old version of camera jb+ before they updated to the 4.2 gui, decompile it, replace the icons with the stock ones and rename the shortcuts to just camera and gallery. Works in 4.2 cm10.1 fine and is identical to the 4.1 camera app with a couple of extra features like volume rocker shutter.

Using CM10 camera should require its lib files and maybe some of the modifications into the source files /framworks/media/ or somewhere....
Hi,
I've been trying a few camera apps. I'm using the A2 camera module (magisk), GCam_mod (R5Plus_fix_crash), CameraMX app, CameraZoomFX app and OpenCamera app (from FDroid). And I could only use the geotagging feature with the Open Camera app. The other 4 apps didn't geotag any photo. I must say I have google services disabled, I don't know if they heavily rely on them. All other location apps work just fine.
I tried leaving the app open for quite a while. Tried shooting with split screen (not the first two) with an app that uses location (satstat or maps) after it fine locates me. No luck. Only OpenCamera is able to use the phone location to tag the photos.
Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue?
