[Q] Speach to text issue - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

It seems that if I freeze either Google search 1.0 (the widget you can't get rid of) or Google search 2.0.0.438695, I have problems. Freezing either with TB causes NAV to crash my phone and pressing the mic on the keyboard simply doesn't work, it either won't come up at all or it comes up but doesn't start. If I disable Google search 2.0.xxxxxxx in app manager to get rid of widget the same thing happens. I want the Google widget gone but need the voice input options, an ideas? I don't think it's a ROM thing, and when I switch launchers I can leave it enabled and not have the widget.

Thanks.

After you freeze the widget check in your settings under "Language and Input" and make sure Google Voice Typing is still checked on. Then reboot and see if it fixes the issue.

No I mean update Google Search through the Play Store and try what you did before to see if the issue persists.

No that did not work either, but I now have Google voice in the input and language menu. Is there another method to get rid of the Google search widget that is locked to the top of each home screen? It's only showing up on my Razr Launcher, not my other 2 launchers even when defrosted, maybe it's locked into the launcher somehow.

There aren't any, at least none that I can find. Oh well, Thank you very much for all the help, maybe I'll re-post the question on the launcher DEV page. I realized that would have been a better place for this right after I clicked submit, LOL.

I figured it out, it's the launcher. There is an updated version with out the search bar. The thing I liked most tho was the clock widget but it doesn't work with other launchers, so that's that then.

good start
Its a good start. Needs some improvements Im gonna keep an eye on it. Would like to see the ability to send messages from widget instead of launching talk. Also its crashing alot on me on axium 2.4. Sent a report

Wow, thought one would never come. Considering I use Gtalk almost religiously, it's fantastic that there's finally a widget of some sort for it. I've always wondered why something like Gtalk didn't have more support for it.
This app is a good start but like others have mentioned, sending messages from the widget itself would be awesome.
nice find. works fairly well, it just needs the interface cleaned up a bit
I would also like to see the ability to only show active chats. Its definitely a work in progress bi just really hope this gets the attention it deserves
Thanks! Works pretty well.

Thanks for the tip, it worked and the widget did download and install now. But now I can not use the widget. I go between a Sense ROM(Android 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6) and a CMX ROM(Android4.1.1) and the Sense ROM is the one I had trouble installing the widget on. On the Sense ROM the widget showed up once in my list of widgets and put the widget on my home screen. But it just opens up to the settings for the widget, and it does the same when I open the widget in the app tray. So I removed it from my home screen and now it does not show in my list of widgets but it is in my app tray still. I will be testing it on my CMX ROM later today and will post back with feed back on it as well.
Edit: I just now realized this thread is in the Galaxy Nexus Themes and Apps forum. I have a HTC Sensation but I found this thread by google search for a G Talk Widget.
Has this been removed from the market?
Is an apk still available?
TIA

[Q] How to get lockscreen back to stock in stock rom?

I can't believe I am actually asking this as a question. But I was neither capable to remove some 3rd party lockscreen from my gf's entirely stock SGN (rom-wise), nor did I manage to google for help.
Tried Go Locker and LockBot. I can choose a different Lockscreen but this new fella is now before the one I try to get rid off. So we actually have 2 lockscreens now. The 2nd one is easy to switch back off but the one below stays right where it is.
Here's what it looks like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Also, you can set the phone to lock pattern. Works fine except for the lockscreen that again succeeds all other lockscreens. It's always the last barrier before you can use the phone.
Please be so kind and let me know where else to look for turning it off
The lock screen app your using, need to be deactivated... if that cannot happen, go to settings----applications---find that app----open it-----and press clear defaults-----bang problem solved

Thanks for the reply. My girlfriend says she never installed a lock screen app (intentionally). I was suspecting the range of Go products but uninstalling most of them (after going through all of their settings) didn't help either.
The question is what app might have caused it. And why isn't there an app that lets you default to stock? That's why I installes Go Locker and LockBot in the first place.
Actually this is quite a tragic flaw in Android. My gf totally diggs her shiny new SGN but is totally pissed by this lock screen. She never wanted it. She hates it. Now she starts hating the phone. She said she wanted a replacement...

App drawer from Nav bar

Hi trying to free up room and get priority shortcuts in Nav bar. Anyone know how to open the app drawer from the Nav bar? Opening apex itself obviously not. I've looked in activities as well but nothing
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It doesn't go on the nav bar, but WavLauncher will complete this function. You set it up how you want it to be brought up - my app drawer opens if I hold my finger in the right spot for 2 seconds. It's not a launcher replacement either, even though it sounds like it, you still use whatever launcher you choose.

You probably have to leave it running as the default launcher (similar to WidgetLocker even though it's not actually a launcher) which has always caused nothing but problems for me.

It uses the persistent notification trick to stay in memory. Which I love in apps since I can just go into app info and uncheck the box to "show notifications for this app".

I guess I should have specified that it doesn't open up the regular app drawer, but it's own built in app drawer, which functions the same. I guess that could be a deal breaker.
Other than that I'm pretty sure you can set up a shortcut or rather an icon on the home screen that opens the actual real app drawer. For sure Nova has this option if stock doesn't.

Spot on but it's worth noting that the feature requires Prime.
So..best thing to do keep an icon to open the app drawer lol. Damn shame though. Thanks for the ideas though.

On some roms with built in navagation bar tweaking you can set apex actions as a shortcut on the navbar which brings up the app drawer.
Black bean and sourcery roms work for me when doing this

Get a rom that has navbar button replacement, and add a like hold recent apps button to open the drawer, or add an icon that is a shorcut to the drawer.
interesting...
Nova and Apex both have this option. In nova its under buttons and gestures. My screen with home button as app drawer.

Sourcery ROM has an option that allows you to hide to nav bar and all you do it swipe up on it to bring it back up. Here's a pic with the normal setting and one with the hidden nav bar enabled. I HIGHLY suggest Sourcery rom. Its available for all GNex variants, and imho, its the most stable and customizable rom out. And it has the best developer support out of all the roms I've flashed. Don't get me wrong, 99% of the roms I've flashed from XDA are bad a$$, and the devs are great, bit Sourcery is my rom of choice.
Edit: and you can add a soft key to your nav bar and select the option for it to open an app of your choice, including the app drawer.

[APP] Nova Launcher Beta (for 4.4.2 with KitKat look)

This the best Launcher I have ever used, fully customizable and looks just like KitKat works on 4.3 and 4.4.2 aswell.
What I like about it is that you can hide apps in the app drawer, like hide stuff or bloatware you don't use and also rename and change the icon of any app. Also works with transparent status bar and navigation buttons.

Always rated Nova as number 1.
I've honestly tried almost every other launcher out there, including Aviante. I keep coming back to Nova Launcher. The stock launcher has improved some, but there are still a few things I miss from Nova. The first thing is the pop-up when you long hold on a app icon. That pop-up has "Uninstall" right there, so I don't need to view the App Info just to uninstall it. I can also remove the icon without having to drag it to the top of the screen. Second thing is that other settings such as Wallpaper is within a long-hold + tap's reach. I can also add multiple app icons to the desktop whereas I can't with the default launcher.

Customize Status Bar?

Can anyone tell me how do I customize the status bar icons on my G3? I really need to add a button to enable or disable GPS.
Thanks!
On the toggles drag them all the way left, at the very end there's an edit toggle that will take you to the customization screen thing.

It is bizarre. I can access Google Play, find an app, and attempt to download, except that the app never downloads. I get an error 495. I've googled that error and I've cleaned data and cache from Google Play and Google Framework. I've also removed my Google email address from Accounts, cleared it all again, then added my email again. No joy. Seems there are a small number of people with that problem. It's very frustrating with my brand new phone.

Try downloading an app from your browser and not the Play Store app. This has got mine working in the past when nothing else worked.

Sounds like switching Roms might solve that problem. Are you on the stock Rom? Here's the one I'm using, there are only two for now and they are both leaps and bounds better than stock. Additionally, it may be a problem with an older iteration that rom if you are using a custom one
