Bricked or broken galaxy s3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So I was using my phone yesterday and all of a sudden it shut off. Now it won't boot. Every time I try to go into recovery or do a hard reset I just reboots.
I am running the latest update from sprint non rooted

If it has any power at all its not bricked, if it's just bootlooping and you can't get into the os, recovery, or download mode you'll have to bring it to Sprint

If it comes on, u are Ok. Just go into download mode and Odin back to stock or if u can get into recovery, just refresh what ever rom u are running if u are rooted

The battery might be dead....do you have another battery to try?

Does it go to the Samsung logo then stops?

You already have some good people asking and giving you suggestions. Just one more, questions go in Q&A not general.

This happing to me, the phone stays for few secs and the shuts of. I can boot into recovery and download mode but it will still reset before I can do anything. I thinks its a hard ware issue

Thanks to all for the advice. I have tried going into Odin mode to do that download thing but it just ends up rebooting. 99% of the time it just turns off says Samsung and then shuts off. I cannot get into Odin mode or recovery and I am running stock non rooted

And yes I have 2 batteries and have tried both with no succes

Check your power button, I have read about this in the past. It turned out to be a faulty power button that stays pressed in causing it to Reboot. Play with the power button make sure it's not sticking if you have a case on it take it off.

This happened to me Friday same exact thing. Took it to sprint they couldn't even get it to boot so I ended up with a replacement.

I took out the power button and now it works. I downloaded an app that uses the proximity sensor to turn the screen off. Will sprint replace the power button?

Can't you put it back in just making sure it doesn't stick anymore? If not then yes take it in, it's definitely a hardware failure.

Well I think it's the actual button inside the phone cause when I put it back in, the button sticks and it goes into a bootloop

Samsung epic won't boot past b/w samsung screen

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct place as this is my first time, so I apologize in advance if not. As my the title states I currently have a samsung epic 4g that will not boot past the samsung screen. The phone is not rooted and was running stock software. This phone also will not load a recovery menu as it will not boot past the samsung screen (and yes I'm aware of the redundancy). I have tried flashing older stock files using odin and I get a successful read with no errors, however when the phone resets post flash it will still not boot past the samsung screen.......PLEASE HELP I am at my wits end and open to suggestions. Thanks

Best I can say to you both is get a stronger cable if your not already using one and if you do have a cable other than the oem one then try leaving the battery out of the phone and hold the power button for about a minute to let the capacitors discharge then let it sit with the battery still out for about an hour :/ if you don't mind me asking, what happened to the phone before the issue started?
Try to Odin with the battery out.

Its possible to odin without the battery in? How does it populate the com and do you put it in download mode first then pull battery or just plug it and let it fly?

Thanks for the replies. I am trying "the duce's" advice first, no luck yet. She had went to take a picture of the "beautiful sky" last night in the hot tub and dropped it. I immediately took the battery out and when we got to our apartment took the hair dryer (on medium heat of course) to it. I then put the battery in and turned it on and it worked! Until she decided it needed a restart and it hasn't came on since...

In that case, I would make sure every last bit of moisture is out of the casing by leaving it covered by rice over night.... it might be short circuiting :/

Get this....never got it to boot using odin or by completely discharging the capacitors but on a hunch changed out the lcd this morning and boots right up. What the heck, does anyone know why this worked? Haha very confused now even though the issue is resolved.

Must have been some kind of failure mode for hardware check then. I had the same thing with my airbag switch in my truck. Airbag light came on because the stupid bulb in the switch was blown. Almost cost me $35 for a switch instead of $1.50 at Radio Shack.

You can try a reflash, restore your previous nand backup and try again, or Odin in a prerooted ROM and start from there. But if it goes more than a minute on SAMSUNG you are done. After flashing the S will take a few minutes (or whatever boot screen the ROM has) while it rewrites Dalvik cache.
My epic is doing the same thing. It was stuck in recovery menu when I pulled it out of my pocket. Rebooted and stuck on sanding screen.
I figured out what I did. I installed wrong kernal... noob for me lol

Received update last night... But...

Phone has been updating since last night and it's now morning. Any idea what the update is and if I can just do a battery pull? I need my phone today and I don't know if this update froze my phone or what...
Mine was in download mode this morning too, thought it was odd. Waited a bit and then rebooted since it didn't seem to be doing anything. Phone appears to be alright...?

I'm guessing it's the mediahub update.
NEVER do battery pull from download mode (not good for any mode tbh).. REGARDLESS OF CONNECTED STATUS...
This is how **** gets corrupted.. simply hold power for approx 10 seconds, phone will abort state and reboot
Oh yeah definitely, like Doug said. Hold power button to reboot. I've never done a battery pull on this phone.

I manage for Tmo and had 2 customers come in the other day with their sgs2 in DL mode.
Did a batt pull and then soft reset from settings and everything was fine.

Good to hear, but as doug mentioned above, should one really pull their bat in this situation?
If it's in download mode, but stuck I suggest plugging into PC and Odin a stock tar just to be safe. You'd hate to lose download mode due to a bad flash, just in case.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
The download mode of the phone I believe backs up boot to ram before flashing, so holding power and forcing abort I do believe restores this if modified, shouldn't be able to loose odin/DL mode or recovery even from stuck OTA..
Unless your a n00b and battery pull, ehich in this case you deserve a paperweight anyways
What was the update? Media hub or something else?

Epic 4G touch won't boot..

I'm usually good at fixing my phone issues myself but this one has me baffled. I was using my phone and it froze up and now it won't boot up. I the indicator light just stays blue and it won't do anything. The light stays blue until I pull the battery and then comes right on when I hit the power button or plug it to try to charge. I can't get into download mode or recovery. Any suggestions would be appreciated I'm on the official ics ota.

Just bought a S3 from Craigslist -- May be bricked?

Hi,
I just bought a Pebble Blue S3 from craigslist without checking it out properly. (I know, shame on me). The phone is in physically mint condition, the water damage tab is not red and there are no signs of dropping.
The phone's screen does NOT turn on. When I hold the power button to have it load up normally, I can hear the T-mobile jingle and then a constant blue indicator would stay on the top left corner.
I have tried flashing it back to stock through download mode (Power, volume down, and home --> volume up mode) and it seems to make no difference to the screen's issue.
Flashing it back to stock might have made it worse because I can't even access the phone's internal memory through USB anymore.
Any help towards fixing my screen would be great!
Thanks.
So out of curiosity how much did you pay for a phone that you did not check to see if it turned on?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I paid $250 for it, came with original box and accessories. I thought it was too good to be true, and it seems that way. At worse I can probably break even and sell it as-is.
Is the battery low?

What does windows report it as in device manager?
If you can get to download mode it may not be hard bricked.
You could flash twrp recovery with idin, then boot recovery and try flashing something from thrre.
Also twrp has a builtin file manager so you can try to see if you can find sny problems that way. (Look for logfiles)
Are you sure its an SGH-T999?

I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark.
Positive it is a SGH-T999, before I flashed the stock PDA in ODIN, Windows Device manager would list that. How do I flash TWRP? Do I need the screen to do it?
Oh the battery is fully charged.

Here is the thread for TWRP. But you get to download mode by starting with the device completely powered off, then pressing the volume down, home and power button at the same time until it powers on. I dont understand what you meant by "I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark"
Button mashing I guess?
And just fyi, to boot recovery from power off
Hold volume up, home and power. When you see blue text flash on top of the screen release.
Also, flashing recovery in Odin will trip the flash counter. Prob doesn't matter considering the situation, but just so you know.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
If you can get the phone in download mode, odin back to stock. Then boot into recovery using power +home + vol up and do a factory reset. This step is important. I borked my phone with a bad jb install and using odin on its own doesnt completely reset the phone. Using the factory reset fixed this in my situation

By saying I'm able to access recovery mode, I got in by basically doing the sequence of buttons, without seeing any display on the screen. I know it is in download mode because it reads on ODIN.
No matter what I click or what mode it is in, the screen is still completely off. Sorry for the confusion.

Well that's a different story lol. Seems like a hardware fault. If you feel comfortable, take it apart and check all connections. And use a very bright light to look for any cracks on the LCD (not the digitizer) but the underlying LCD.

I've had Samsung service my SGS1 that I bought off Kijiji while it was still within its one-year warranty. It doesn't just apply to the original owner, just call them and tell them it was a gift, they'll ask for the phone's IMEI, and then they'll be able to tell if it is still within its warranty period.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 Sudden Death Syndrome(or something like it)

I was on my T-mobile Galaxy S3 today when all of a sudden it turned off. It's now stuck in a boot loop and nothing I try does anything. I'm running Carbon custom rom 4.3 and I tried wiping my cache through clockwork and eventually tried factory resetting through clockwork but it always shuts off before I can choose anything. I talked to a Samsung customer service representative and they suggested I send in my phone. The only thing is that I'm rooted and running a custom rom, so I'm worried they're just going to say I'm screwed and that they won't replace it even though Sudden Death Syndrome happens to tons of people running stock and who are not rooted. Any suggestions?

After about 5 seconds the screen turns black. The charging light doesn't go on even when it is plugged into the wall too.
