A few questions on tweaking note 2. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have spent lots of free time searching for answers on these questions and came up short. It is possible becuase I did not try all varients to asking the same question... well now I am going to ask them all in one place.
*I am rooted
*I use CleanROM ATT SE 2.0
Samsung Keyboard
*let me preface that I use the s-pen writing pad and I do not want to change keyboards. When I have pen out I want writing pad to appear when needing to input characters. Unless there is a way to use a separate keyboard, but when pen is out it goes to writing pad.
1) Is there a way to remove the numbers at the top of the SAMSUNG keyboard? I would rather use a function. This is particularly a problem with landscape mode, where the numbers really take up too much space... and this is a note 2.
2) Is there a way to change the dpi of the samsung keyboard (or stretch it)? I used the build prop editor in ROM Toolbox Pro version to set the DPi to 300 instead of 320. But the Samsung keyboard and even the stock phone is messed up. How can I stretch the keyboard back?
Other tweaks
1) How can I change the hold home button or hold headset to open a specific app?
2) How can I cause the hold home button or hold headset button to wake device and open app?
3) How do you change the lockscreen? I got MagicLocker - which btw did not show up in App store - for my Note 2. So I faked my phone and fooled the app store and got it anyway. Well it is kinda slow and buggy. Is there another solution.
*I KNOW I KNOW... it is a basic question that is searchable. Believe it or not it is hard to find this answer for me.
4) Is there any way to fool the market or the app you downloaded to being in tablet mode?
*I have Xposed and I have not found a successful way of making into tablet mode. I need a step by step. Trying to read the forums for this has been confusing. Perhaps there is a tutorial I missed?
Thanks so much guys. I love this forum and I support all apps I buy that I like. ROMTool box is one and it is great!

Alt-Tab equivalent? switch tasks/apps with keyboard?

Im looking for a way to switch between open programs using the physical keyboard. I'd like to avoid having to "pinch" the top edge of the screen to switch to a different running application.
Is there anyway to accomplish this?
Thanks!
You may use quickmenu for that, the running apps will show up on the start menu.
I personally found that the short menu on the home screen is good enough though.
here's how i made it work...
find and install a program called "RhodiumKbdControl_GSM.CAB" (on this forum), then find and install "AltTab.exe" (on this forum), configure RhodiumKbdControl to run AltTab.exe whenever you press a hardware button like Messaging.
Worked perfectly for me on stock tmobile rom

Thanks mail_e36!
I've already installed RhodiumKbdControl_CDMA_1.3.2 (im on Sprint), but I'm having a hard time really understanding how to use it (setting up rules, what the RWin, LWin, etc. boxes mean). I've asked about the existence of a guide or help document on that thread, but have not gotten a reply yet.
Would you be able to tell me how you assigned AltTab.exe to run when Messaging button is pressed? (assuming what you did would also work on CDMA version)
Is it possible to make the Message button run AltTab ONLY when multiple "windows" are open and retain normal function (or better yet, make it launch Start menu) when all are closed?
Thanks so much for the help/ideas !!
while I do not have the exact instructions on how to do this, I can assure you that if you spend 20 minutes looking at the options in the application I stated you'll figure it out.
It will definitely work, just look at the options on the many for assigning keys

I did exactly this and mapped to the back button (short press) on my TP2 and left long press = back. Works great!

[Q] Just got my HTC Desire... what to do?

Hello everyone,
I just got my HTC Desire, and I've been looking around at all of the cool things I can do with it. Unfortunately, I'm not the most technically savvy when it comes to these kinds of things.
I understand that if I truly want to unlock the power of my phone, I need to root it. I'm not exactly sure how to do that. I found a guide on this website that explains how, of course, but I'm not sure if my phone is a candidate for such an operation.
For instance, to get my build number I need to go to the 'About phone' section and find the RC number. However, when I look at my build number on my phone, I don't see 'RC' anywhere.
I just got the phone, so I assume everything on it is as up to factory date as possible...
Firmware version 2.1 update 1
Kernel version 2.6.29
Build number 1.18
Software number 1.18
Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I'm using the guide located here...
[edit]I tried to post the link, but as a new user I am unable to...[/edit]
Also, I know this is a silly question, but how do I make the keyboard appear when typing? I did it once, and am not sure how. I would, of course, read the manual for such a trivial thing, but I live in Japan, and only have a second grader's kanji reading ability. Thanks.
First of all good luck with the new phone
For the root part, the phone is quite good by itself, and after you recieve the official update to froyo, most of the earlier reasons for rooting is eliminated.
If you want to root it, you should understand, that there is allways a risk of breaking it even though it is very small.
The things you could gain from rooting is access to some special apps like screenshot apps, and special backup programs, which can backup far more, than non root apps. The most interesting part though is the custom roms with custom themes, which is only available with root.
If you want to root, you should try using unrevoked, which makes it very easy. You should read more about it in the forum though, to see, if your phone i compatible with the current version.
Btw. the keyboard should appear when you touch a box with text input.
I see. Thank you for the useful information. When can I update to froyo? I've read a little bit about it here and there, but I don't really know much about it.
And when you say "custom ROMs with custome themes," what do you mean? What kind of ROMs? When/If I get Froyo, will I be able to use custom ROMs, or will that only be possible on a rooted phone?
And when I touch a box with text input, a keypad shows up... not a keyboard. Like I said, I got it to come up once, but I have NO idea how. I've tried to recreate the situation (by just randomly hitting buttons/parts of the screen), but I have yet to reproduce the keyboard. Like I said, by default, a keypad just shows up.
Thanks again!
@Keypad/board thing
Go to settings -> language & keyboard -> touch input
and check if your keyboard is set to QWERTZ or QWERTY depending on your location
Most of us have got the official update, but i don't know, if it is delayed in asia or something. Try searching for new updates:
settings ->about phone ->System software update -> check now
About custom roms, those are for root users only as i said before.
About the keyboard, i am not sure, if i get you right. When you touch the textbox, the keyboard app opens. If you mean you want full qwerty keyboard, it is changed in settings:
settings ->Language and keyboard ->Touch input ->keyboard types
Rooting and custom rom is much more than theme customization. It allows the phone to do exactly what u want it to be: install apps to SD (on ext3), move cache to SD, set cpu clock for longer battery life, hack the keyboard, etc.
Spend some time searching how to do it
from my Desire + XDA App
Thanks guys for the responses.
I tried to update, but it says that my phone is currently up to date, so maybe there is a delay in the Asian market. No big deal... I can wait.
And as far as the keyboard goes, yes, I'm saying that I can't figure out how to get the QWERTY keyboard to show up. All I can get is a keypad, like on your home telephone.
When I go to settings -> Language and keyboard I only have the ability to select the language (English or 日本語), or iWnn IME.
In the iWnn IME selection, there is no option anywhere to change to a QWERTY keyboard. I got it to come up once, though... so I know it's possible, at least.
I think I'm just going to go back to the store and ask the employees if they can help a bakana gaijin.

Keyboard that does autocorrect with S-Notes?

Maybe I am missing something but I can't get the autocorrect feature on any of my keyboards (including Swiftkey) to work inside S-Notes.
Did Samsung design this to actually disable any autocorrect on any keyboard? Why would they do that?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Wow, 149 views and no one has any idea?
Is it actually possible that Samsung has intentionally disabled autocorrect by ANY keyboard in S-Notes? I love Samsung hardware but on the software side they continually make choices which confound. It's not that they write bad software. It's that they seem to PURPOSEFULLY make choices which harm the user. For instance, how hard would it be to give users the ability to create and save their own templates? How about typing styles? It would be incredibly simple yet they choose not to.
I am beginning to think Samsung hired the same guy who decided getting rid of the Start Button in Windows 8 was a brilliant idea to run their software development as well.
** Or it could be that Samsung's idea of "Customer Feedback" is an utterly lame Facebook page that looks like it is manned by high school students? They don't even have Forums for God's sake! S-Notes could have been a OneNote killer yet they just sort of said, "Nah, let's make it suck instead..."
Frustrated. S-Notes has been out for a while now and apparently they have no intention of improving it.
I never looked into it because I don't like autuocorrect. But I would checked either in the keyboard or language settings. It's probably something you just need to turn on.
I guess I'm not understanding exactly what you want. I use the stock Samsung keyboard and the Kii keyboard from the play store and they both have the suggested words pop up and try to correct my spelling when I either type things out using the keyboard or use the s pen in handwriting mode using the s note app. I'm on stock deodexed MA7. What are you wanting it to do?
he wants autocorrect where it automatically makes corrections even if he doesn't use the suggested words.
Same here!... I thought Swiftkey would mend this problem, but it DIDN'T !!!!
So only in S-Note even Swiftkey refuses to give suggestions and/ or autocorrection.
I'm really angry, 'cause I sort of planned on using it.
But since it already got on my nerves, that I constantly had to change from drawing mode to keyboard input whenever I opened a note, although the pen was not drawn(!), it's probably time to look into another app.

[Q] Writing on desktop

Howdy gurus,
Is there any apps out there that would allow me to write on the actual screen on the Note 8? I mean, can I use my S-Pen to highlight, take notes on the actual screen?

Hoping I understood your question correctly :
If by desktop you mean like windows or mac, then you could use a remote client like splashtop remote/vnc etc.
or there is another app called virtual tablet that makes your note a virtual tablet for your computer (though pressure sensitivity does not work, but other features can be used)
However if what you are asking is all to do on the note itself then there are a plenty of apps that let you do that and have pen support.
for example in pre installed s-note you can switch between writing pen/pencil/ highlighter / eraser.
I mostly prefer handwriting recognition in the samsung keyboard as with that I can do a lot more in most of office like apps.
Search for 'Snap Pad Free' on the play store. You can set the paper transparency to 100% if you wish so it looks like you are drawing directly on the desktop or within any app (it's always available)... then to save, simply make a screenshot. Done.
That's the closest app I know to what you're asking for.

Hi intelliriffer, thanks for the advice. I think that your second option is close to what I'm focusing on.

[App] sMouse : Use your Note 10 S Pen as an air mouse

Hi,
I'm happy to present what I think is the first Air Mouse app for the Note 10: sMouse.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.kinesthetic.smouse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZI6yBJ3u1c
sMouse is a virtual cursor for your Note 10 that you can control with the S Pen.
sMouse uses the Gyro embedded in the S Pen to detect movement and move the cursor.
To navigate: Hold down the button on the S Pen while keeping the mouse still. This engages 'Warp mode', where you can re-position the cursor, or go back or home.
To scroll: Hold down the button on the S Pen and quickly flick the S Pen up or down to start Scrolling.
Permissions:
The app needs two permissions to operate, these are:
* Overlay permission: This allows the app to draw a virtual cursor over your screen
* Accessibility Service permission: The app needs to be granted the Accessibility Service's 'Gesture' permission so that it can perform clicks, navigate Back and to Home on your device.
Current limitations:
* The S Pen Gyro only works well when the S Pen is held horizontally. If you point the S Pen down (vertically), the gyro can not detect movement, and your cursor won't move.
* The virtual cursor can not move/draw into the system bar at the top of the phone. This is an Android OS security thing where Android will not let apps draw in this space.
This app is just a bit of fun that I made after playing with the S Pen SDK to see what the S Pen could do, and to my pleasant surprise it has a functioning gyro sensor that is readable from the SDK. I've made a good attempt to make this as usable as possible, however it is limited by the hardware in the S Pen.
Thats it. The app is free, no paid versions or advertisements. If you like it please leave a nice review, and maybe checkout my stuff
Hope you enjoy!
Very useful app that you have created. It is very useful. Brilliant work.
ironic that i spoke to someone weeks ago about having an app made like this, wish i was quicker, well done looking forward to test it.
This is great. Seems to work well so far.
This would be a great addition to Dex Desktop while working on a TV. I haven't tested it yet but it seems like a fit made in heaven.
I will try! Great work! Thanks!
Great app and work. Anyone could post a new video showing all the functions?
It could be used like a regular mouse ... Pointing, moving, right and left click ... Except toolbar?

Looks interesting
thanks for your great work, can you please provide us a link for the apk file, for those of us who can't access the play store?
This app save me; I was looking for all kinds of alternatives to use the Gear VR on my note 10 as a cardboard viewer but couldn't remap neither the spen nor the controller to trigger a screen touch (click). With this app I can finally do it.
Only one request, would you send me an apk wich doesn't write the mouse on screen? I always end up putting the mouse on the right and setting the sensitivity to 0 in order to hide it, but when I restart the App it puts it on the center.
A suggestion, make something like this app with the settings I'm telling you and put it in the app store with something like "Spen VR clicker" or something, I know it would be really helpful and many users would download it.

I don't manage to get it working on my note 10+. It's running Android 10.
I think it has to do with the permissions or the s-pen. Can anyone tell me exactly how to set them correctly?
Awesome. Most definitely will be a neat tool to use
