Hey guys, random thing I just discovered while holding too many gadgets at once and trying to smoke simultaneously. As you know, random objects (pencil, pen, popsicles.....) do not work on phone\tablet screens since capacitive screens use dielectric conductivity between the screen and skin. However, the electric cigarettes you see everyone using nowadays, do in fact work quite well. The bottom part of them, where the battery casing is, for clarification. Anyhow, never seen this mentioned anywhere and figured this is the spot for it.
Tested with an eGo SOV model, but I imagine the concept is universally applicable.
Yup eGo twist works

Evod works
A piece of bread works as a stylus also.
So does a tomato

Volt ecig does not work with the Note 2. Interesting.
Logic does not work with Epic II 4g Touch

I'll have to test this with my Blu when get home lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Blu only works if you don't use the tip. (Plastic) any of the metal surfaces can act like a stylus though unwieldy and useless imo.

Lmao too funny
The Billet Box works, not so sure how practical that is though lol.
Wouldn't this be a good way to scratch your screen

I saw this on you tube its basically a metal bumper style case its for the normal GS2so i guess it fits the At&t one as well. Has anyone seen somthing along the same lines for our phones

I've been looking for this bumper (or something like it) for weeks... we may have to get a group together and contact the manufacturer to get them to produce it for us Touch users.

There is one manufactured by a company or called a BLADE, and it is much less flimsy looking that this, it is one large piece basically a frame and a small attachment to lock it in the frame. Seemed much more durable, this thing appears less durable than good old tpu...

I saw these stylus pens on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Capacitive-Cellphone-Motorola-BlackBerry-AMM0101US/dp/B0053NBLFW/ref=pd_cp_cps_1....looks like it works with different smartphones. It could become handy for doodling etc..
Anyone ever tried one before? Or could recommend a decent one? TIA
I bought a 6pack of capacitive stylus, they work on my et4g, evo, and kindle fire, and they work better than my finger. I use em for taking notes on my phones and drawing on the fire, or phone if I'm really bored while waiting for an appointment at work.

I bought a similar one from Fry's. Works fine
Transmission sent from a Galaxy S II, CODENAME style.
I made mine and it works awesome

No link but they are on amazon search for capacitive stylus and seller is "the friendly Swede" 6 pack with next day shipping was like 12$ they will have kindle fire, iPhone, evo flyer tablet and some other devices in the description they have a pressure sensitive rubber tip the firmer you press the heavier of a line it will leave behind they are aluminum body with a pen clip on em very sturdy and work well with all of my capacitive devices

I bought the black one at Staples for $14.99.
Thanks for the info guys! Definitely gonna go buy one then...or a pack. I've been playing Draw something (addictive) game, and it's difficult to use your finger to draw anything.. Lol. Plus I think it's a good accessorie to have..

I only got the 6 pack cuz we got 5 androids in the house and a Samsung series 7 windows tablet so each device got it's own stylus and I have 2 with my kindle fire cuz one of the Androids is a note so its got its own super pimp s pen that thing is cool as hell, u cab draw/write with one side and erase with the other and it learns multiple styles so if more than one person uses it it will adjust to each persons style based off of small things like angle its held against the screen and pressure used to contact the screen, but that's wacom for you they have some seriously sophisticated touch pen technology, If the note/journal or something similar comes to sprint it may just be my first Lte device

I just ordered the ones from the link. Thanks for sharing lol

Monoprice has those too for very cheap
http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=stylus&x=0&y=0
be careful when using those when you write on an angle though, you can scratch your screen if you press too hard with the metal part
I have a question is there anyway or it might already be ported to get the s-pen to work like it does on the galaxy note? Being able to write and it shows on the screen? Or is that a hardware type thing? All these might be a stupif question but I thought I'd ask
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
As long as the pen tip conducts ur electricity to the screen it should register properly. (Its not really conducting your electricity im just avoiding getting into the physics) I'm just not sure if our screen has the appropriate layers for pen tip abuse....scratching etc .
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
There are stylus' out there that are made for use with our device, to prevent scratching and they register fine on our screen. I recommend going online and looking up some accessories for our phone and they will usually point you in the right direction.
Just go on amazon and look for capasative stylus. I got a 3 pack for like $5 that work great.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
I recall seeing a review on this. It doesn't work on anything other than the Note. The reviewer said something about the Note having added software that allows it to work with the s-pen. I'll post the link to the review when I find it.

The s pen will not work. It works differently than a standard stylus, (its inductive) and will only work with the hardware layer on the note. Any CAPACITIVE stylus will work.

Brought it with me to Afghanistan for a little entertainment and it's definitely worth it. I also bought 2 extra batteries for it and it's great. I got music, movies, games and I get to talk to loved ones when I get the chance for wifi. Very durable phone and I'm just glad to have it.

How's it hold up against the sand out there?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Lol
Not every where in afghanistan is a sand box like Iraq and other haji countries. It's actually rather mountainous
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
The sand or dust is awful. My sinuses are so dried out! But the phone is fine. I have a screen protector so I just wipe it with a rag. The area I'm in is really dry. Lots of hills that are brown and look like they are made of pure dust!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I just hope that the dust doesn't ruin the charging connectors. If it does, I should be okay with just charging by using a universal charger on the batteries.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Sounds like hell lol, I've been thinking about joining the military lately... I guess if I end up somewhere like Afghanistan I'll take my E4GT for entertainment as well.
Good luck out there, I'm sure you'll be back to the states in no time. My cousin just got out of the Marines, he was also stationed out there.

They do seem to be pretty durable. The only complaint I have on mine is that there is a scratch op paint missing from the metal grill for the ear speaker. It is supposed to be painted black, but mine has a chip on it where the bare metal is showing through. Wonder if sprint would replace it for me....
Mine phone was dropped in water while bathing my kids and sucked on by my 8 month old and it still works like new!! This phone is like a toyota cant blow it up!!

They showed an iPhone getting dunked in a bucket of water. Interesting idea. Would anybody ever try this on their phone/tablet/keyboard/laptop?
Now that I took a better look, it's a Sprint iPhone. No better iPhone to dunk in water. Just sayin.

That's really neat technology, but I wouldn't do it to the phone I paid $600 for. To be honest, water damage is the least of my concerns. I'm far more likely to drop it on pavement or gravel.

I sure hope you weren't a can of hydrophobic solution!
I remember seeing the first videos for this and thought it seems awesome. Many kinds of possibilities for the stuff. Just wondering how clear of a coating this stuff is, if it'll affect the touch sensitivity much, heat dissipation, and if it'll muffle the speakers and mic.

How much per spray can?
Sent from my Sony Xperia™ Duo using xda premium
What about the connectors for battery, sd and sim cards, headphone jack, usb port.....I'm assuming you'd have to scrape the stuff off of where ever there needs to be bare metal for a connection. If anyone does this be extremely careful of the usb/charging port! It can be easily damaged. And this stuff probably won't be easy to get out of a headphone jack if it blocks the connection.
I'm also curious about the effect it has on the sound, but more importantly the mic. Will others be able to hear you as well?
I'm cautiously optimistic with this stuff. It is awesome, but for a smart phone, I don't know. Kinda wonder if they were just using it as an extreme demonstration, like the guy with a screen door in the bottom of the boat. Sure it can be done, but it is never actually recommended you do so.
Not trying to be a downer, just thinking of all the angles to look at before doing a $600 test. Be careful! And good luck! I really do hope it works w/o any issues!
Oh and someone asked about touchscreen sensitivity. They did not apply it to the screen.
