Is this a paper weight? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I got a sgs4 and was selling my s3 on craigslist. And was puting it back to stock. Well my son decided to unplug the usb as it was odining.
Well now, it wont go into download, recovery, wont turn on, and wont even show an led while plugged into charger.
Im guessing this phone is hardbricked. But is there any way of fixing it?
Iv heard of the jtags, but have never known how they worked or what they do.
Can my phone be fixed at all? Or is it done for?
Thanks in advanced if anyone is able to help

Sure sounds like a paperweight..
Go to mobiletechvideos.com and read up on how to use their Jtag service. It's very easy and they are very reliable.
Before doing so I suggest double checking that the phone is indeed hard bricked.
1) Remove the battery, reinsert it, and try entering recovery or download mode once more
2) plug the pbone into the pc and see if you can see a red led light. If so try entering download mode from that point on. If ODIN can recognize the phone try flashing back to stock even though you may not see anything on the phone.

like the guy above me said I believe the service is about $60 which pretty sure your getting that and more when you sell it

Bricked my phone. What do?

So I was playing around with different kernels and whatnot but it froze while I was flashing back to stock. I pulled the battery and tried to reboot the phone but only the blue LED came out. Anyone know how to solve this issue or am I screwed?

As a last resort try a USB jig. I wouldn't mod a Samsung without one.
There are several OG Epic tricks you can try. Try removing battery and SD card and plug phone in to PC and see if it powers to download mode.

I had the EXACT some problem last week. I went to the repair center, said the phone was plugged in at work, we had a power surge, and afterwords the phone wouldn't turn on. An hour later...BOOM, new phone
I then went on amazon and purchased a usb jig and kept my phone stock until it came. lol
Every rooted owner should spend the 2 bucks on a USB jig. It's not the holy grail, but it's one more tool in your belt to potentially get out of a frustrating and time consuming situation.
I bought mine from here and got it pretty quickly considering where it came from ...

It will potentially force your phone into download mode from an "off" state when you otherwise can't so you can connect to Odin and get your phone's system restored.

I forgot to mention letting it sit when I mentioned this to someone else (or was it here?) about pulling battery and SD card. Also repeatedly press or hold power button with those out to purge any remaining juice in the phone. This stuff sounds crazy but ask any former OG Epic owner.. some of these tricks have brought phones back from the dead. There isn't a pinhole under the battery cover below the camera is there?
That last part was an OG Epic inside joke but the rest is worth trying

Bricked :(

I tired flashing back to stock using odin and now my phone won't even turn on let alone go to download mode. Can somebody help me?
letting us know the model number of your phone might help
SGH-T989
Get a USB jig.
make sure your battery is fully charged
boot it into download mode
if you can get it to show download mode, then you can use Odin again
what did you try to flash with Odin earlier?
my phone won't go into download mode or turn on.
I tried flashing a stock recovery file
does the screen light up at all?
When you flashed the recovery file did it finish or fail during the flash? If the cable is plugged in does the battery charge indicator pop up?
No the screen doesnt light up at all, and the flashing failed.
If you plug it into the computer and it says qhd-usb or something along those lines in device manager, it is shot. It will also make a noise (from the computer speakers) like you plugged it in twice.

if flash failed and you turned off your phone(in download mode), you're screwed.

Yes, It was my nephew's s3. He was blindly flashed it, now He asked me to help him, and I am asking any one in here know how to get it power up and into download mode.
I think that flashing the wrong radio version could fry the whole thing dead permanently.
However, if you can get ADB to recognize the device you may be able to get it working. See if you can get adb to recognize the device at all, if you can there may be hope.

Does any screen come up? If it's hard bricked, just bring it to the store, and show them. They'll probably try a new battery, and if they can't boot it up, then they may replace it.
Worst case, they say they won't replace it cause you messed with it, and you're back where you started.

Cause the USB dongle will put you straight to download mode. From there you can flash the proper ROM.
Anyway, if you can't get in to download mode, can't boot up to anything, and especially if ADB can't find your phone, then you might have just gotten yourself a very expensive paperweight.

I did the same thing, quit wasting time, you need a Jtag service period, if you can't get into download mode, Odin and Adb IS NOT going to work. It will not see the device. Go into device manager, if you see this QHSUSB DLOAD, you are seriously bricked, only Jtag can help it. The usbjig will NOT work with this issue, I have tried.

Just bought a S3 from Craigslist -- May be bricked?

Hi,
I just bought a Pebble Blue S3 from craigslist without checking it out properly. (I know, shame on me). The phone is in physically mint condition, the water damage tab is not red and there are no signs of dropping.
The phone's screen does NOT turn on. When I hold the power button to have it load up normally, I can hear the T-mobile jingle and then a constant blue indicator would stay on the top left corner.
I have tried flashing it back to stock through download mode (Power, volume down, and home --> volume up mode) and it seems to make no difference to the screen's issue.
Flashing it back to stock might have made it worse because I can't even access the phone's internal memory through USB anymore.
Any help towards fixing my screen would be great!
Thanks.
So out of curiosity how much did you pay for a phone that you did not check to see if it turned on?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I paid $250 for it, came with original box and accessories. I thought it was too good to be true, and it seems that way. At worse I can probably break even and sell it as-is.

If you can get to download mode it may not be hard bricked.
You could flash twrp recovery with idin, then boot recovery and try flashing something from thrre.
Also twrp has a builtin file manager so you can try to see if you can find sny problems that way. (Look for logfiles)

Here is the thread for TWRP. But you get to download mode by starting with the device completely powered off, then pressing the volume down, home and power button at the same time until it powers on. I dont understand what you meant by "I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark"
Button mashing I guess?
And just fyi, to boot recovery from power off
Hold volume up, home and power. When you see blue text flash on top of the screen release.
Also, flashing recovery in Odin will trip the flash counter. Prob doesn't matter considering the situation, but just so you know.

If you can get the phone in download mode, odin back to stock. Then boot into recovery using power +home + vol up and do a factory reset. This step is important. I borked my phone with a bad jb install and using odin on its own doesnt completely reset the phone. Using the factory reset fixed this in my situation

I've had Samsung service my SGS1 that I bought off Kijiji while it was still within its one-year warranty. It doesn't just apply to the original owner, just call them and tell them it was a gift, they'll ask for the phone's IMEI, and then they'll be able to tell if it is still within its warranty period.

Well Im desperately trying to find anyway to avoid jtag expenses, i took.it to a sprint tech i know who deals with this stuff after i had exhausted my options .He said jtag it . Earlier today i made a 300kohm 1/2 watt jig but to no luck it wouldnt force dload mode?
Ive been reading on this other explored method of sd card unbricking using a jig and tweezers to trip a resistor on the board and manually flash a new bootloader it seems..very very very complicated
And noone has succesfully done this as far as i know.
All i did was accidentally flash my old gsm note 2 t889 backup ,jedi master10 rom, when i meant to flash jedi invasion I overlooked the words master for invasion after it flashed it said
Install failed in RED and No OS installed at top then i realized what i did and tried to Save my a** and restore my nandroid that failed also ,then i tried to dig myself out this mess and flash the only other t999 zip rom i had on my sd and that failed Said no OS Installed on top after i rebooted never could reboot again Not even 3button.works for dload mode

I don't know all the specifics in your case, but I can tell you this about a hard or a soft bricked phone.
Plugging a Jig into any android phone is safe and will not harm it at all regardless of it's condition.
If the phone is hard bricked it will not go into download mode even with a Jig.
It makes no difference what the issue or problem is with the phone, simply
plugging a Jig into it will either get you into download mode or it won't.
The way you can tell if the phone is hard bricked is if the phone's screen and or
led's do not light up at all even with a known charged battery and regardless
of which button or combination of buttons are depressed.
If the phone vibrates it usually means that it's not hard bricked.
Hard bricked phones are DEAD they show no signs of life at all
that's why they are called BRICKS.
One of the nice things about the jig is that it can work even if the computer
does not recognize the phone when it's normally plugged into the usb port.
So if your phone is NOT hard bricked my suggestion would be to plug in the
Jig get it into download mode and have Odin ready with the stock or stock
rooted Tmobile Jellybean v4.1.1 firmware ready to flash using the TAR file.
Good Luck!
