Don't flash ICS - the ICS bootloader is locked and will throw up a security error if you try and install a custom recovery.
Otherwise the steps are correct.

ok, so skip first one, just root...
any normal root option for 2.3.5?

you can root then install CWM recovery if you think that your device doesn't have secure bootloader.
if you try to boot into CWM recovery and you get a fast boot error, it means you have to unbrick using the unbricking guides found in the general forums, then flash cm10.1
---------- Post added at 07:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ----------
dont try to install CM 10.1 if u aren't comfortable performing steps on unbricking guides, read one of them first then decide.

if you try to boot into CWM recovery with a secure bootloader your phone gets bricked, thats why i say dont do it unless ur comfortable unbricking. make sure ur phone is fully charged when u try to boot into cwm for first time

This method of rooting and installing CWM worked for me on a Bell P930: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784709
I am running Liquid Nitro v7 and intend to try CM10.1 RC2 later.

[Q] Help my Arc unable to boot??

Ok I was running version .145 (rooted) with unlocked bootloader already. I am just trying to update my version to the latest one. So what I did, I download the stock .145 version and flash them using Flashtool. After flashing the phone booted just fine. After that, I go to update the software from the setting option. The phone downloaded the software and eventually install it. Since then I dont know why the phone is unable to reboot itself??? I have tried to re-flash again using the flash tool but still unable to boot my phone??? (seem to be flash ok, no error messages what so ever). Can anyone help me, how to boot my phone again?? or to make it work normal again?? Thank you.

Ok, think I finally fixed it....thanks to the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126358
Seemed like I bricked my phone....thank god it work again...
Everytime bootloader is unlocked, OTA will brick the phone. That's a fact. Anyway at least you figured out the solution.
Hey..
Nice that you fixed it..
Please read the Namaste guide sticky in Genral forums for info on locked vs unlocked bootloader..
OTA update for any unlocked bootloader will end up with a bricked phone.. So instaed simply flash the latest ROM ftf and then flash a rooted img.. Check forums for threads on tutorials for this..

Hello world !!!
I've created a project of a new kind : The RecoverX Project
The goal of this project is to gather ALL the recoveries for ALL android devices in ONE tool which install them on the devices. RecoverX is coded in C++ thanks to QtSDK and allow to install a recovery on more than 150 different devices !!!
You just have to select your device and the recovery, click "Install" and RecoverX does the rest !!! It's that simple
This program require different prerequesties, depending of your device
- Wether you need an unlocked bootloader to flash the recovery partition (and fastboot drivers on your PC)
- Wether you need root access and usb debugging activated (if busybox is not installed, RecoverX will ask you the permission to install it).
This program have been published on XDA News : Here
Here is the list of supported devices :
Finally, a small preview
Awesome !!! Where is the download link ???
Here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227
Thanks...bit I'm sccurred.
Who has tested this on their a100? You?

I was feeling ballsy so I gave it a go. Went from TWRP and with this tool I installed CWM with no issues.
I shall give it a go when I get out of work today. Thanks.
Your welcome
Ok, I am going to give this rooting of the A100 and unlocking of the bootloader. Just a question... Say I use method 1 and root, then do the unlock procedure... at that time after those two steps, could I just download the latest CWM from playstore, install, and then make a Stock ICS backup... then procede to downloading and flashing a Rom? Do we have to install CWM in the way shown here? Also, once I unlock the bootloader, does it stay that way until I lock it back?

You cannot download CWM from the playstore. CWM is a custom recovery and it is specific to each device. You will have to get it from here. Also if you unlock your bootloader, it will stay locked until you relock it, but as a word of advice: do not re-lock your bootloader. If you do any you have something like CWM installed, then you are toast.

So, once I flash the custom recovery (CWM) is there ever a way to go back to stock recovery, in order to re lock the bootloader to flash a stock rom back to it? If I understand correctly, if I had a custom CWM recovery, I would not be able to flash a stock ICS rom, unless it was th nandroid backup?
Yea if you start playing with custom ROMs you can always go back. There are threads in the Acer A100 forums with specific instructions of how to do it. Make sure you read them carefully and perform all the steps in order. Essentially you would need to flash the stock recovery back to your tablet, and then from there you can download the update.zip that ZeroNull has posted and then flash it to go back to stock everything. I had to do that in order to create my first ROM based on the newest Acer build of ICS.

So, logically, once I root, unlock, flash CWM... then I can do a nandroid backup through CWM.. and essentially have a "Stock" image to go back to if I bork something up? And, that being said, since the A100 will never see a true official JB update, would I really ever need to go back to a unlocked bootloader and stock recovery? If I wanted to go back so to speak, I could just reload my backup?
---------- Post added at 04:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:56 PM ----------
Oh, and this method looks pretty easy to put CWM on.. i assume I just install the zip on my PC and hook up my rooted, unlocked, and backed up ICS and flash?

The backup won't touch the bootloader and it'll always restore back cwm. There's threads about returning to stock, like full stock. The nandroid would restore you to how it was when you backed up, meaning stock rooted ics with unlocked bootloader and cwm recovery.

which would be good, since I dont really need to worry about going back to unlocked stock since there will never be any updates.. right? I just want to make sure I have a firm grasp on this ting.. I already had to send it back once and I never even flashed anything.. lol.. Is there any fully functional JB roms yet for this? As for ICS roms, which one is most complete as I use all the camera features and such..

We've had fully working cm10 for a few months now. All ics roms work also, and you have stock, and modded stock and cm9 to play with there.

Yea you might want to ask some of those questions in another thread, but check out jellytime by pio. Its about as complete a JB rom as you are going to get on this thing.

The easiest way if your still on stock unlocked ICS, is to download 'quick boot' from the play store.
Question though, way are you going to fast boot?

Quick boot is an app that will allow you to boot to the recovery, boot loader, power off, or standard reboot. Just by pressing a button.
Ahh, I was under the impression that this app would reboot the tablet for you into fast boot to flash the recovery. So never mind me, if it is telling you to manually do it.

Here you go mate, thanks for providing your CID you are all good to go, here you go:
Firstly you will need to download the rom you wish to use and this tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924003
(this is the mutt's nuts, the dog's bollox, the Jap's baps or whatever, its great)
You will firstly need to put the rom zip on your sdcard
Then boot your phone into fastboot
Then use the tool in the link above This will flash the firmware you need and also boot.img for the rom you want to install. Just unzip the download, put the boot.img in the root of that unzipped folder and then execute the bat file. It will talk you through what its doing.
After that, boot into recovery and flash the rom
---------- Post added at 07:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:56 PM ----------
Oh yeah you will also need to put the unlock token you originally used in with the boot.img

[Q] SGH-I317 - Cannot Get To Recovery Mode

I cannot get my Note 2 into recovery mode. I am able to get to download mode and have tried installing a few different ROMS through Odin. The install results in a "Pass" but the phone does not make it past the Samsung boot screen. I have tried a few of the suggestions on different postings in the forums but haven't had success. I am somewhat new to the rooting community and am in need of assistance with this, I am getting nowhere on my own. Thanks in advance for any assistance you all can offer.
You didn't mention if you ever flashed a custom recovery.

Sorry for the lack of details. I am sure I made a rookie mistake but heres the process that got me to where I am now:
I was rooted on 4.3 (used CF Autoroot). I was attempting to upgrade to 4.4.2 using EZKat's zip file, installing it from an external sd card throuh recovery mode. I did get that to take, but was having issues with the Samsung keyboard crashing (I now know there is a second file that fixes this, but got that info too late). So thinking I had made a mistake at that point I attempted to revert to the stock 4.1.2 rom, which also took. However, I then got a notification for an OTA update, and I went for it (probably a bad choice?).
The OTA update completed but on the reboot it started hanging at the Samsung logo. And that is where I am stuck now. I can get to download mode and Odin still lets me flash roms and gives me a "Pass" but the phone never gets past the boot screen freeze and I cannot enter recovery mode to factory reset or clear cache.
Thanks for your replies, I appreciate any assistance you have to offer.

Just use cf auto root and make sure you get the right recovery and put it in the pda or ap slot in odin or you can flash a stock custom rom that's rooted already like the one I'm on

Note 2 I sent out of state is also stuck. I had downgraded to 4.1.1 to root it and left it there. It did work for a little bit, but not now. Will just flashing the bootloader file do the trick or do we have to flash the ROM too?
If it won't boot on 4.1.1 you might have to go up to 4.3 or 4.4.2 to make the phone work again I tried to go back to 4.1.1 and I couldn't get it to boot but I didn't try flashing the bootloader but it won't hurt anything if it don't work

That's why I asked for a full dload version.... Instead my first cast file was C636... If I don't find the proper C636B103 version I will flash again C636B170 to return to my cast version... I just want to have my phone from start...
