It's actually not, because you would've had to use parts from AOSP 4.2.2 anyway
Using Touchwiz as a base wouldn't turn out well because there are too many proprietary things everywhere anyway

Thanks for the advice! What type of kernel do I need to use then? Aosp?

I mean, we only have AOSP kernels for 4.2.2
Since you're porting from Samsung to samsung, I'd say to try unpacking the s4 boot.img, replace the zImage with the zImage from out 4.2.2 AOSP boot.img and then repack and try flashing the rom with that boot.img...changing the mount points in the updater-script of course

Okay looks like I'm all set, I'm going to get started tomorrow, and hopefully be done by Monday

There is a reason that no hardened veterans have done it yet, its going to be damn near impossible. The hardware of the phone, software, and literally everything else is entirely different. It is the same reason we can't just port sense to other phones

I randomly pmed times_infinity bugging him for help as well, and he gave me a whole host of more updated files he's been using. That makes him awesome. Seriously, everyone is being so awesome to me. With any luck, I will have a (probably glitchy, most likely alpha) build of just straight vanilla ICS for our phones soon. Its a ROM I have been wanting for a while. I also know vanilla will be a good base to build off of, so, once it is solid, I will be allowing any dev to use my ROM without having to ask my permission first.

Chris it won't boot because it has the international sgs2's egl props to get sbrissen's 3.0 kernel to work properly.

it may have used to, but they have been changed a few times, and have some ff18 props, which also dont boot..
This will be my first ever rom, and I have very little idea what I am doing. Even if all the files times_infinity gave me work brilliantly, the odds of this booting my first attempt are next to zero.

It would be neat, but the community was already fooled by someone who promised this once already and I would imagine no one will donate for this to happen until after it actually happens.

The fact you just joined the site looks fishy (No offense, I'm just a paranoid person). At least you aren't asking for donations. If you can do it, do it. if you can't, oh well. I will say this though, you have better luck trying to port sense 2.1, 3.x... It has been confirmed that sense 4.x does not play well with samsung devices and many other devices as it is in this current state.
My personal opinion is; It'd be nice to have more options on this device because the reality is, this device is fast, fluid, and has a lot of possibilities! I feel as if I should have gotten a nexus device sometimes but sprint always fails to get the latest nexus devices by months...

My random ported roms thread

Basically what this thread is meant to be is just a thread where I port random ROMs I don't really want to support or bother with bugs. You'd be surprised about how many cool looking roms there are Here's a list if what I'm porting. List will get bigger as i find something of interest . Ideas/suggestions are welcomed *I do not mess with international roms * I'm not risking my phone or yours
*Disclaimer: some of these ports might be roms I haven't tried on my phone due to lazyness so i might not know if it boots but you take the risks of flashing so its not my fault if your phone bites the dust

I would test on my phone when I don't have anything happening and if I'm not busy. I usually don't have time to wipe my phone. For example im 2 releases behind on my own rom because I don't have time to update. Also any rom I post here won't brick your phone the worse that can happen is a boot loop. Like right now i have the time to test my provision port from the Gnex and it bootloops so gonna figure this one out

Yep that's what usually happens. International versions get it first. Samsung can just push the update to those devices. However, for the US versions, the carrier gets the update from samsung and "tweaks" it... Basically making sure it works with their networks and adding the carrier bloatware.

I don't know man.. I'm sure that's how it will go down but they have been sitting on this update for a minute now. They just wanted 4.2.2 on their new flagship before updating people's older devices.. I'm ready to go back to the Note 2 for a while, just waiting on this update.

It takes a while to completely change where everything is, and what it is called in a ROM for no apparent reason.

Every time Sprint releases firmware upgrades they take the old firmware and put it in a blender. Breaking all the learned and established ways of adding features... Forcing devs to continually reinvent the wheel each and every time. All for no real reason.

I have to disagree. At least with my old epic touch. Ics was a complete flop as far as I'm concerned and jelly bean was worlds apart. And after source got released the devs over there anyway were able to create some great roms and kernels. I think this update will be pretty good. However it will still be jelly bean but with some tweaks of course.

You're talking end user experience. I'm talking how much of an unnecessary PITA Sprint makes it to mod Twiz ROMs.

Yeah you're right. I wouldn't really know what that entails.

People need to just chill and enjoy what our devs have currently made for us while sprint rolls 4.2.2 out to us. It will happen soon enough!
