I am not sure this is even possible. If it is though, the community here will know how to do it. I am looking for a way to force the LCD off but keep the foreground app active. I don't want the device to sleep as I need the app (a video app) to continue to run in the foreground just as it would with the screen on.
I realize this may have as much to do with the hooks the app has as far as checking if the screen is off or listening to screen notifications (?). Anyway, wasn't sure if there was a lower level root hack or something that I could turn it off with. The reason I want to is that with the screen on, and plugged into a wall charger the GNEX can run the battery dead after a few hours of video play. I would like to keep the audio playing but save power by turning the screen off.
Any ideas?
Looking for something similar! Tried "no lock" app, with no success.
Don't know why you want to do it.
Anyway, if you are playing the same video everyday, you can convert the video into audio format. Every music player can play music with screen off.
it's not really like turning it off, but you can use apps called screen filter and reduce the brightness a lot. I used it when using a phone as a surveillance camera for nesting birds. Surely, it's not perfect but maybe a first step.

Download Coreplayer. It lets you put your device on standby while listing to music
Which version should be look for?
isnt the screen auto turned off after 30 seconds (maybe you can set this in somewhere)?
after it's truned off automatically, the music is still on. i never turn off screen with my hand, dont bother,pro2 does the thing himself.
Pocket Player is another (not free, though) music player that has the ability to continue to play the music when the screen turns off. I find I like PP better than CorePlayer for music.
I have the same problem. if I'm playing music, the screen dims then blanks out and when it does the music stops. Seems pretty stupid. Same thing with the YouTube application. Would love to know how to let the screen go off but let the music keep playing
This sounds similar to some settings in diamond rom's. In some cooked versions, the cpu speed is set too low in standby mode. Search for the registry setting here, I'll bet this problem is similar.
This will probably be one of the first things I try to find a fix for when my TP2 arrives today.

Download Nitrogen from these forums. Its free and it better for MP3's than most of the MP3 players listed here ( believe me I have tried nealy all of them ). Nitrogen has an on screen button that when pressed turns the screen off, then all you have to do is in the phones actual settings is to select to lock buttons when the screen is off. Only the power button will then turn the screen back on.
I use nitrogen also and I highly recommend it.
I have the video out cable for my Dinc and It works very well, but I can't figure out a way to disable the main phone screen while I am using the TV out cable. I use it quite a bit on flights as I have some MyVu video glasses that let me watch movies on them. The issue is that the battery is being depleted very quickly due to havign the main screen on even though I am not watching it.
Is there an app or setting that will either let me toggle the main screen on or off, or let the screen sleep without stopping the video playback like when you hit the top sleep button?
I would say the screen has to stay on because if the screen goes to sleep it stops the video player app..... as for the battery you should be able to plug the charger into the side of cords adapter I know I can with mine

Everytime I'm watching a video in my browser, it'll sleep after 30 seconds which is what I have it set up to. But isn't the display suppose to stay on while watching a video. Does anyone know how to keep the screen on?
Sent from a Galaxy that fits in the palm of my hands.
that will depend on the video player App you are using
some will keep it awake, some will not
i got the same problem on my Windows PC
there are many work around, like easily set the phone to stay awake, and you can still turn it off when you hit the power button
or pick up another Player App from market, that has the feature build in
Hi am looking for an app that will still allow my phone to dim after so many seconds but not completely off. Anybody know of one or know how to do it with android?

My old phone had a car mode that kept the screen on dim and unlocked. It was real handy for stuff like pandora. I think android has pulled it since 2.2 but im also interested in something like this for ics
Actually this still works, first figure out hoe to launch car mode from that vlingo app or download a car mode launcher app. Next download an app called car dock settings by ig88 and uncheck all the options except disable screen timeout. Now whenever the phone is in car mode after 30 seconds or whatever it will just dim but not lock. There must be a better way though.
You know most phones have had this option in the apps development settings to have screen always on when charging. It would eventually dim but never time out or turn off. I believe it's disabled on our phones due to that it uses an amoled screen. Leaving amoled screens on for long periods of time with a static image will cause the image to be burnt onto the screen. You can try searching the market for screen timeout for apps that will allow this and I believe there were some roms that allowed longer screen time out time and also the development option of screen always on, but just be careful that it will have a negative impact on the life of your screen.

Hello,
My huwawei smartwatch sometimes turns off its screen automatically to full black, not the screens saver mode. So I need to touch my watch again to get the display on again.
What can I do about it?
Thank you for reading,
Genezing
This is a new energy saving feature. It will switch off the display if the watch doesn't move for a certain time. I also experience this sometimes, especially when playing with my Playstation. I usually rest my arms and mainly move only my fingers while playing. This causes my watch to go to sleep.
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it. But it should not happen during normal activities, when you move your arm from time to time at least a little.
Happens to me when playing games, I figured it had to be some energy saving tech., glad to hear confirmation.
