Today I flashed the new Revolution ROM on my Inspire 4G using 4EXT. I wiped all partitions, flashed from SD card, flashed gapps and then the inspiremod+gps package. Everything worked great except the sound, and I tried to solve the problem by installing the KangBang V3.3 Stable Kernel (because other people in the thread did that and it worked for them).
After flash, WiFi ceased to work - the toggle showed 'Wifi off" even though it was highlighted (usually meaning it's on), and when i tried to toggle it nothing happened. The device says it's "turning on wifi" but it never does - it just loads the wifi capabilities forever. I tried to turn wifi on from the settings menu - same result.
Moreover, I don't know if this is related (or if its meant to be this way), but the "about phone" menu shows that the kernel stayed the same. Tried with two other kernels (don't remember which ones, not KangBang), same result exactly. When I tried to to a total wipe and re-flash ROM with the kernel to begin with, same result as well. I have a feeling there is something about kernel flashing I don't understand. Do I need to be S-OFF to do it? because I'm not...

Hi Guys
I have become a victim of the dreaded "unable to scan for networks" wifi issue and need some suggestions.
The problem originally occured when I upgraded my phone to MIUI-Au, I also upgraded the radio to the recommended version.
When I enabled the wifi after the reflash the phone went into a reboot loop which I could not get out of. I reflashed the phone again with MIUI, everything worked fine until I enabled the wifi and then ended up in the loop again.
I did some looking around and found the suggestions to rename/delete the /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf file which I tried to no avail. I gave up with MIUI and decided to go to another Rom and decided to try out InsertCoin CM7/A2SD+. I installed the rom as per the recommended procedure i.e. Wiped Malvik and normal cache partition & data/factory reset. I also tried both of the recommended radio's on the Insertcoin thread.
My system now no longer gets into a reboot loop when trying to enable the wifi but simply comes up with a "unable to scan for networks" message and then switches the wifi off. I have tried resetting data/ factory resets, Cache and Malvik settings and everything else I could think of.
Has anyone got any other suggestions as to how I could try and sort this out as I have followed all the suggestions I could find on the site?
Thanks
JohnB
Did u try only a factory reset without data wipe? Usually a factory reset solves the problem...
Maybe this might help:

First, perform a Nandroid Backup via Recovery Mode, which you can later restore, just incase anything goes wrong.
Try flashing the modified kernel 2.6.29 in Recovery Mode (MCR_oc_v14-signed.zip ), it should work then.

Thanks for the suggestion MatDrOiD. Yes,I have done a factory reset, if that means setting/SD & Phone Storage/factory data reset (tried with "erase SD card" ticked and without ticked). Have however tried your suggestion again but still comes up with the "unable to scan networks" message.
I have also reflashed several new roms (in default settings) in an effort to try to find something that would work, all seem to have the same problem.
I also tried with a different SD card with nothing on it and have reformatted it several times.
System info
Kernel version 2.6.35.10-gdd56551 [v03]-snq-is-still # 1
Build Number: IC GS A2SD+ V20
Software number 2.36.405.8
Android Version 2.3.3
Rom version: InsertCoin_GB_Sense2.1_A2SD+_v20
Radio: 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 tried 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08 as well
Would changing the radio make any difference? I have tried the versions recommended for MIUI as well.
Anything else I could try?
Changing radio could work. At first, i would do a full wipe and flash the original htc froyo rom. If the issue still exits, wifiadapter could be broken.

Thanks for the suggestions Mat, I tried to reflash the 2.6.29 kernal as suggested but my phone seems to just sit with a black screen with white stripes on the edges when trying to restart with the new kernel. Left it for 1/2 hour but just sits there. Also tried a few other versions of the kernel but all seem to just sit with the white stripes on the scree.
I am going to carry on trying over the weekend and if I don't get it sorted will switch back to the orginal HTC froyo ROM and see if that sorts out the problem. If not will send it back to manufacturer
Thanks again for the suggestions.

I have massive problems using WiFi.
If I activate it, the phone spontanously "crashes", means it reacts extremely slow and is totally unusable till restarted.
It's always when WiFi is on, just the time till it starts differs. I've tried some different ROMs (MIUI with LordMods kernel or stock kernel with vanilla ROM-settings and no apps, CM7.1 stable with stock kernel) and also different WiFis and settings and can say it's independent from an established connection, so it also occurs when there is nothing in sight to connect to.
I can't remember since when I got this problem as I only recently activated WiFi again for usage. Before I never had such problems. I accidentally flashed a zip file as a radio some time ago o) and then flashed the right radio again after I got the battery out for some time. Possible the phone got damaged somehow or is there a possibility that it's a software related issue like a module that doesn't work well with more recent radios in combination with my phone?
I tried radios 12.59.60.26_26.11.04.21_M and 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M, same problem.
Thanks
See if the official software works, try to install a 1.32 RUU.
I first noticed this problem when I was on a CM9 nightly a few weeks ago, but the problem resolved itself after I installed RC1. When I installed RC2 the problem resurfaced & I can't seem to find a work-around. I've tried enabling & disabling the bluetooth radio, turning airplane mode on & off, wiping both cache partitions & even wiping all data yet the problem still persists. If it makes any difference I applied the leaked ICS & unbricked later, so I should be on either the latest AT&T baseband or the original SK one. I'm afraid of adb flashing the AT&T ones from the stock images because I'm afraid it'll enable secure boot again. Oh, & also for those who haven't been following outside the US, AT&T found a way to enable secure boot.
okay so it appears they re-released RC2 w/ some bugfixes, one of which covers this problem...
Hello:
My wifi is not working, on the menu on cM9 it just have this stupid message "Turning wifi on" and nothing happen... In other mods it says "wifi error", its not grayed but it says it. If I switch on it goes back to off with the same message.
My phone felt and I had to get the screen changed but it started BEFORE. Bluetooth seems to work.
Tried basically anything I found on google::
-CUstoms (CM7 and 9, WC) and stock roms w/ full installs with wipe/factory reset and so on
- So-called "forcing wifi" aps
-*#*#526#*#* dial on the phone.
So its not lupus ...
ANY help is welcome. Im starting to think its hardware, any way to be sure?
I had this problem once on CM9 but I think a reboot fixed it. Not sure though.. Anyway your problem is worse if flashing other ROMs doesn't fix it.
Also, use the Q and A section in future please

I thought I'd try out a USB Host Mode patched kernel (even though my new Note II should be here Monday) but that stopped the wifi working for some reason. I tried flashing another kernel (no host mode) to fix it and the wifi is now working but shortly after booting the signal disappears completely.
It's fine when the phone boots and can ring/access the net but very quickly I get "No service". I also flashed a new radio just in case and still not working,
I'm running CM7 on it, tried flashing Tiamat kernel and ManU but both do the same. Any ideas how to fix it?
Hmm, even going back to the host mode kernel I tried first isn't giving me signal now. I did start to think it might just be a coincidence and be something to do with an upgrade I ordered today but my old Kaiser is working with my SIM card.
Odd.
I reflashed the CM7 zip and its working again now.
