Toro won't tether - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I used to be able to use the built-in tether app on every custom rom I used on my Toro. Now suddenly it won't work on any of them. Not sure what I might be doing wrong, but it's a bit frustrating as I'm in the middle of moving and won't have internet service restored for a few days. Any suggestions? I'm on the latest Atom rom at the moment, but it wasn't working on AOKP or CM10.1 either.

Carriers like Sprint not removing portable wifi hotspots but deactivating it. How?

On my Sprint Galaxy Nexus when I first got it the stock wifi tethering setting worked on my stock ICS. Later on I found that it just doesn't work anymore. It will activate and appear to be working and let my laptop connect but the 3G will go away like they have some kind of built in checker.
I did some research and found out that they might have a checking system set up. Well I found out you can still use apps like Foxfi which is great but I was just wondering if there was a stock work around.
They even blocked Foxfi from the market place but you can go to there main site and download it from there.
I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and what kind of solutions do they use.
Right now I am using Foxfi which works perfect but I read that you can use a widget like switch pro and create a toggle to switch the portable wifi hot spot without it going through the check.
I do not want to use USB only prefer hot spot.
So please let me know all of your guys types of solutions.

Well obviously the wifi tether built in is something your supposed to pay for. For stock no, there are no mods.

I thought it was just weird because it worked at first but now it doesn't the stock version. Maybe because my phone was just still getting set up. Foxfi works for me great because I like to have hot spot but I hear PDA Net still works as well for USB Tethering.

Does your Sprint tether work or do you have to use FoxFi?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
Just root it and tether it up
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
It probably worked because they hadn't yet blocked it for you. Then you tried to use it and they did block it.

Have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658288
I unlocked the bootloader, booted to TWRP Recovery without flashing it and flashed the tether zip. Keeps your phone stock and unlocks the built in tether. You don't even have to root.
What program do you use to unlock the boot loader or flash the roms?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
How in the world did you boot into TWRP without flashing it? That might not be rooted but seems like you have to flash a rom.

Do what everyone else does....
Root it (you really need to to install any decent app).
Install wireless tether from http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Always install the newest one posted (yes it's beta, but it's rock solid stable).
Which program do you use to flash things? Qdl tool or is that old school? I know there is a power house program for the Nexus but I forgot what it is its on my home computer am I out of town.
So you are saying you have to at least flash the recovery but not the from so its still a little more than FoxFi.
What's a quick step by step process because its been a while since I have flashed things. I use to flash my dell streak all the time until I got my Nexus which I love.
Why did you decide to flash? Is not FoxFi good enough and simple enough?

What other programs do you really need to install besides the tethering app?

You just have to be rooted and then install wireless tether.
It will prompt you to allow super user access on first start, allow it and tick the "always allow this action" box.
It's bomb proof....been using it for years on numerous different phones....and numerous different carriers (sprint included).
clockworkmod tether is another no root required tether app.

I use Chrome browser on my laptop, and change the user agent to the same as the phone (there's a Chrome app). No problems tethering...
Is that USB or Hot Spot?

Looks like FoxFi is still the easiest solution.

You can root your phone and then install wifi tether. Thus is what I did...

DrewGaren's 2.0 Blueberry JB Rom for Bell on Telus

For any Telus users - Drew Garen's BB JB for Bell works almost flawlessly with Telus. I dirty flashed from his 1.1 and have had no problems that I didn't already have on 1.1.

By the way these problems include poor interaction between Google play music and bluetooth, the same for Apollo, no wifi tether (but you can download an app from the market for this), and the keyboard reverts to swype after every shut down. Just put swift key in a folder on you front Page and open it up to fix.

Reverted to Wanam for this very same reason. Also calls on Bluetooth sound very low which is a dealbreaker for me. Against the law around here to talk and drive without a headset or Bluetooth system. Other than these two issues its an extraordinary ROM.

Wi-Fi tether on 4.2.1?

I have tried a number of 4.2.1 ROMS and still have yet to find one that will let me tether my laptop. I have tried the native wifi tether...and the tethering app... It used to have no issues working with my laptop on 4.1...but since I jumped to 4.2 I can't seem to get anything going here.... Is there a working wifi tether or am I SOL...

Im currently using this ROM and native wifi tether works perfectly fine. I should add that I'm on R6, 4.2( R8 is the current one which is 4.2.1) as I've had no need to update it.
Ok..as soon as I can find a R6 ROM I will give that a shot and see what gives... My laptop connects but it says "limited connectivity" ... basically no internet...
Would the kernel make a difference? If I ran a 4.2 kernel?
Works with the Paranoid Android ROM and Franco Kernel as well.
Damn...PA is a R8 release? What the hell is wrong with mine then..LOL

I'm using rasbean and with trinity kernel. And I can't get it to work either. Using wifi tether it gives me errors and won't show the created network. It has errors in the log creating "ap". If I try to use the builtin app it creates an "ap" and allows me to connect, but it won't actually let me to browse the Internet. This is over two rasbean roms and the stock kernel and trinity kernel. I've tried changing the device to the gsm version and I have also tried using different apps. Open garden, barnacle, etc. So I do know what else to do.
Thanks ...

I would first try flashing it clean. Wipe System/Data and Factory reset. Then before installing anything test the Native tether to see if it works. I suggest using Cyanogenmod because many ROMs are built off of it, but that is your choice. I also suggest you try connecting another device to the AP to make sure the problem is not your actual laptop. Try tethering a tablet or another phone and see if it works.

WIFI Tether issues on most ROMS.

Hey Guys,
I've tried all kinds of different roms, from different versions of Liquid Smooth, Carbon, Jellybam, but one common issue i experience is WIFI tethering.
All roms except Liquid Smooth 4.1.1 RC7. I've done clean installs, even went back to stop and flash fresh, and to no avail. None of the roms let me tether other than RC7. Even with RC7, the native tether doesnt work. I'd have to use a wifi tether app which only works for rc7
So a quick summary of what ive done so far:
-All wipe steps, factory reset inclusing data and system but to no avail.
-go back to stock, root again, flash any rom, nothing.
-go back to RC7 liquid smooth rom, and the wifi tether app is the only way to get wifi tether to work.
Any recommendations on what i could try or even use another rom will be awesome.
Thanks in advance.
WiFi tether on AOKP's 4.1.2 works for perfectly. Additionally, the rom is super stable.

i was using 4.2.2 Rootbox prior to this flash. I had tried to flash over the KT747 kernel for D2ATT however it did not work it just hung the phone in a continuous boot loop. i tried to do the method with fixed permissions in TWRP also but still no luck.
However it seems like on the AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.2 )Task650 (2.23.2013) (AT&T) rom i'm running the wireless tether is an issue still for Canadian customers as per the FAQ section that's in their main Rom thread

I've had working wifi tether on my 4.2.2 rom for quite some time. Where you getting the "Wifi tethering hasnt yet been perfected on 4.2.2" information from? You have to have a ROM + Kernel that will allow it. Most AOSP roms should be up to date. If they are not then I'm not sure why.
Another plug for task's latest. Tethering works with underwear and ktoonsez kernels.

ROM and kernel have to support it.
I'm not Canadian nor do I have Canadian service. So I can't confirm that. But I have a ton of Canadian users and have seen no reports of it not working. So that must mean it works just fine.

wifi tether works with one rom, not another

the wifi tether for root users is not working with the liquid smooth rom just released, but the optimus DE rom works just fine as well as stock. tried reconfiguring it all different ways and mimicking the optimus rom settings I had that worked just fine. not sure why it works fine for one and not for another. any ideas?
just so everyone knows, I'm not a total noob at this. I've had a Samsung nexus S 4g forever, had it rooted for almost 2 years. great phone, moved up to the optimus for its hardware capabilities, but have had some issues with configurations on certain apps. great phone so far, the lg firmware makes it a little difficult to play around with. I've tried wiping davlik, pulling data from my other rom and everything. I went from a 4.1.2 rom to a 4.3.1 rom. i'm wondering if the 4.3 doesn't support the wifi tether? I use the crap out of it and haven't ever been billed for it. its awful handy, and sucks not to have it. tried the trevE mod version too, with the exact settings off my other rom it always starts with errors. if I turn it to NetD it works properly but doesn't show up when I scan to find it. not sure whats going on here?

CM/AOSP depending which one, have a free hotspot built in. I think it's usually in settings>phone or roaming. Somewhere around there on the settings.
