You probably wont be able to add any, you can change the current ones by editing the apk, signing it then installing it. Once you open up the apk (with 7zip, winrar etc.) look inside the drawable-hdpi folder. Thats probably where the emoticons are kept.

Adding icons to whatsapp
Hey Guys has anyone tried adding new icons into the default whatsapp?
Or do the modded versions allow adding additional GIF'S to be added to the instant messenger?

yes i have tried it, but it's useless since the recipient of the emoticon should have the "moded" version too, so that he could see the emoticon

Just wanted to add that Ive noticed the Iphone has new icons and I can view them on my phone which dont have those icons :/

I used 'Formatter' to rename (whatsapp) .apk file into .zip did required changes (replaced one .png smiley file) & again renamed it into .apk
But then, I'm not able to install it (even after uninstalling previous version). An error saying 'Application not installed' shows.
How can I modify .apk files (in terms of replacing only the smiley image files) & repack it into proper .apk file so that I'll be able to install it without any error?
Please help me..

After modifying the apk i think you should resign it to be able to install it

Good idea, but not practical
In order to install an apk, it must be properly signed and with a password that only the developers know. If you own the app though, you will still need to to decompile and recreate the apk structure by turning the directories of the zip into an android structure, since the compiling will change pretty much everything.
Worst part of it all, if you somehow manage to change and install the app, only you will be able to see it since only the apk installed on your phone has those custom emoticons.

[MOD] Remove SMS from Logs - Working v2.2

Hi!
after countless FCs from the stock email app, when trying to open new emails, i finally found a better solution for removing sms from call logs.
not the LogsProvider.apk should be modded, but instead the Contacts.apk
i modded the Contacts.apk from OMEGA 11 ICS stock rom
which is a XWLP8 rom

update: new version now fully works! settings are saved
after install you need to REBOOT!

no need to rename this file.
rename or delete your original Contacts.apk, then copy this file to /system/app/ with rootexplorer. thats it

does not work still shows when you send a message it shows under all messages Im using ICS LPS
biggest flaw is i can no longer delete the logged SMS sent either

install
go to /system/app with rootexplorer
remount filesystem R/W
then rename Contacts.apk to Contacts.apkx
then copy the modded file to /system/app (no need to rename it)

replaced my contacts.apk with this one using root explorer rebooted the phone sent an SMS to test it and it still shows under logs when you select to show SMS messages from then on you can no longer remove it from the log :-/

when its reported to work fine, i will post the sources.
i will improve it a bit in the next days.
now lets see if it works for other people, or not ...

I use Homam's mod (little modded by me) without any issue, and no one reported any email issue!

you dont need to delete the entries.
does anybody know what happens if you have too much log entries??
the problem is already in samsung stock contacts.apk!
stock email app puts entries for new emails in the database of logsprovider.apk (you can check it with sqlite)
but contacs.apk does not show it ever in the call-logs view.
so email can fill up your database, and you have no (normal) way to delete it.
therefore i say it does not matter if the same happens to sms-logs.
i just would like to find out what happens, if you have 2000 smslogs inside your database and 300 emails logs.
will it crash? will it auto purge old entries? what ? what?

still the hack of logsprovider.apk has bugs and is not done correctly.
contacts.apk should be hacked instead, as i have shown

I think the 2 ways are good, just like you said it needs to be done correctly.
You try to hide logged sms, and Homam's one try to disable sms logging.
Anyway, good work karl999999, i ported it to my Blue ICS themed lp4, it's working great (with aosp email).
Best point for your mod is that it will hide also all previous received sms .
Get it from attachment, you have to restore stock LP4 LogsProvider.apk (attached too) if you want to test it.

acutally hiding is not really what i wanted
i want the menu to work, only the startup default to be set at "show only calls"
(instead of "all protocols")
but then i have found out, that the stupid phone.apk seems to change the value at random times.
what i will do in the next version, is that the menu will actually work, and you can delete old logs normally.
if that is possible, that is
PS: what would be even better is, if the call log screen could also show those damn emails. the logs ARE in the database. the damn app just does not show them. (as i said before, i wonder what happens if you have 2000 email logs in the database, and you have no way of deleteing them?)

this one seems to fully work now, and save the settings to preference file.
after pushing the file to /system/app you MUST REBOOT, because its not zipaligned yet. (maybe i will fix this later)

I meant was missing 3 xml in layout related to sms showing. Well you are actually hiding sms
I am sure you ll improve your mod, for the moment i ll keep using logsprovider mod, for our rom (Simplistic lite and Disaster) we had no complaint about email client ;-)

[TUTORIAL] Change App Icons In Touchwiz

Hey Friends,
This is a little Tutorial about changing app icons permanently. There was a lot of applications available in Playstore like
“ icon changer free” etc etc to change the app icons. But the problem is that u cant use that changed apps in ur app drawer. U can only use that in ur home screen as a shortcut.
So I just decided to put a little tutorial to do that easily. I know everybody will know this already. But it will help for someone I am sure….
TOOLS NEEDED..!!
1.Photoshop(Ps)
2.a flashable zip
3.root explorer on your phone
4.7-zip
STEPS-
1) Get some cool icons from my xperia z icons pack - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287388 and save it to your pc.
Edit: If u need some cool Galaxy S4 icons Download it from Here - http://www.mediafire.com/download/k2522edgik21tp1/GS+4+Icons.zip
2) Whichever app icon you want to mod say the "video player",just copy it's apk from /system/app/<apk_name>.apk
and paste it to sdcard.
3) Now transfer this apk to your pc and extract it using 7-zip.
4) Now look for the app icon the file name maybe in drawable-hdpi and drawable-sw320dp-hdpi under res.."video",or"homescreen_icon" or anything...
5) When you find it just right click on it and click properties under the details tab check it's dimension something like"84X84","42X42","50X48"
6) Alright then you know the app icon dimension now.
7) Now save the image as <app_icon_name>.png on the desktop(make sure the name is proper)
8) Open the apk with 7-zip
9) Now drag and drop this image from the desktop to the folder drawable-hdpi and drawable-sw320-hdpi
and click yes when the prompt appears and close 7-zip
10) Open any flashable zip and don't touch anything except the system folder.
11) Open the system folder and keep only the app folder delete other folders in this app folder copy your "video.apk" and delete other apks if present.
12) Now close the flashable zip and send it to your phone ext _sdcard and flash it by mounting system...and you are done!!

Same procedure as mentioned above.
Copy that apk on pc open it with 7 zip and follow the procedure.

Besides drawable-hdpi and drawable-sw320dp-hdpi folders, icons are located in mipmap-hdpi folder in most apps. And they are mostly named as ic_launcher_appname.png, so change this png to change icon of that app.

Superb !! I would always wanted to change my app icons as I own Sony Xperia J and this device icons is totally different from those of xperia m,z etc! A while ago I tried to find a fix for using dark themes (saves battery life) but MMS text always turned out black on black. Making it unreadable.
So after a some investigations I am happy to say I have a fix that works with sending images
The CM10.1 version works with Shpongle for me fine so far.

I really dig that ics colored icon, is there a way to change it within the app as opposed to using something like desktop visualizer? I'm looking for it to install that icon by default.
I know i can decompile the apk and change it that way. But I'm prepping to do a reinstall on my pc and don't want to install an apk tool till after.
If not that's cool, just figured I'd ask

i dont think u can change the Icon of the Messages app ... the icons come from Framework-res.apk .. you have to change it there or use a theme :good::fingers-crossed:

Here's another hmm for y'all. And I'll mention that I pulled the native mms apk from the phone first.
Does anybody have the app going back to the light colors after a reboot? I still have the native apk but it's on my sd card. So I can't see where it could be influencing the dark apk. But sure as the sun rises in the east, when I have to reboot for some reason it reverts. If I reinstall the dark apk it all goes back to what is supposed to be, and I retain all my messages. Just curious if it's just me. Or something I did

Oh, figured out how to get the ics icon to show on your homescreen.
Before you flash your Rom, go into system/app and pull the green mms.apk, and replace it with the dark version. When the phone boots it'll use that apk and viola. Ics icon and dark mms.
Hope this helps somebody. Personally I think the dark version actually sends the msgs faster. Maybe it's in my head, but it sure felt that way,
Update: for clarification, this needs to be done on your pc. Don't have to unzip the file or anything, just open it as you would a normal file/folder. I is definitely say to do this before transferring the Rom file to you device. It seems to take forever otherwise. Plus one on the phone, it seems you can't change the name of the file. Which I'd definitely recommend. Just name it "mms.apk" the device seems to take care of the permission stuff itself.

Using root explorer you can just paste it into the system/app folder, also if you use Titanium backup then once its installed you can incorporate the update into the rom. This means it will always boot with your new .apk
I have just installed the BlackOut clear theme with mms.apk and all the rest. You can install all the zips etc for GAPs as well

That's interesting.I was using smanager to do the same thing. But whenever I'd rebootthe phone it would revert to the native style. The only way I've gotten it to stick permanently is with the method I mentioned before

You need to rename and redo the permissions as well, but all that can be done on phone with root explorer.

Just replacing the one in the Rom with the dark one and flashing the Rom did it for me. No permission stuff, just renamed it. And flashed the Rom. aside from pulling the native app from the Rom zip. That is

http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/downloads is where I got mine from, there is a little variation from rom to rom but generally pretty mint. Plenty of dark gapps in there as well, I used most of the 4.4 ones in the SlimRom except for the camera which I got from a normal google apk.
I'm working on a apktool guide so you could always read and use that :angel: .
Do you want direct links for apk only to save bandwidth? or are the rom files fine?

Hi Rohov, its in the rom.zip all the mms.apk s are in the /system/app folder. You can use any zip program to open them and pull the apks out. Once they are on your phone you may need to change the permissions to -r -rw -rw itll make sense in the root browser if not post me.

[Services] Changing Application Names in App Drawer

We've all been through it. We install an application but the system name on the file is different from what you want it to be. One example would be the WhatsApp+ MOD on XDA. Most people would just like it to be name Whatsapp.
This is where I come in. Everyone says that you can NOT change the original developers system level name for the application, but I have found a way.
I will be taking requests for any applications that are free. I will not do paid applications.
How to request:
Upload the APK that you would like to be modified and send the link to me in this thread.
Tell me what you would like me to change the APK's name to.
It's that easy.

I've noticed you can do this with a few custom launchers like Nova, but not at the system level. However, if you rename an app in the drawer it with realphabetize itself properly.

Yup, that's the only way to do it. All these other apps and APKs that say they can rename it do not work. I just thought I would help out people who don't have time to decompile an APK and edit it.

Hi, I almost sure that android does not work like I suppose (so probably my question does not belong here), but I gonna ask anyway, There is the stock browser in sense roms, and the AOSP browser, (i flashed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173565) if I flash the AOSP browser the stock browser is replaced, is there a way to keep both browsers (on topic) maybe changing their names???

Hi, I almost sure that android does not work like I suppose (so probably my question does not belong here), but I gonna ask anyway, There is the stock browser in sense roms, and the AOSP browser, (i flashed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173565) if I flash the AOSP browser the stock browser is replaced, is there a way to keep both browsers (on topic) maybe changing their names???

They already have different package names, you can have both. They are two different browsers. The zip you flash must be deleting the Sense browser, remove that line from the updater-script

I could try that, but both apks are named "browser". I thought that's why the original browser is replaced during the flash, but I tried the following: flash the aosp browser, then add the stock sense browser renaming it to browser1.apk (to avoid the overwriting) and setting permissions, but after doing that, the aosp browser is not availble to use (it still is in system/app but is not 'usable") its like a rule to not be able to have both browsers because in every MOD which do that the stock browser gets replaced :silly:

I would be willing to do this edit myself, but I'm not seeing android:label= in the androidmanifest.xml file. So I can't seem to make the change. Is this located in some other XML file in the APK?

As Matt stated, look for something alone these lines:
