My Old HDMI cable - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Does anyone else's HDMI out not work in there galaxy S4? Do we need a newer style for our S4?thanks for any help
Edit... We need a 11 pin micro-usb adapter
I had the old 5 pin adapter.

Edit. Sorry guys I probably should have done some research first. Since its here I will elaborate on what exactly we can do with the old adapter. They sell a 5 pin to 11 pin micro-usb adapter. That's the cheapest route. The best option in my opinion will to probably buy the OEM, 11 pin, 1080p ready adapter straight of Amazon. Between 40 and 46 bucks

I have one ans cannot get it to work . Are u sure HDMI out is supported?

Well there goes twenty bucks! I bought two of them and two HDMI cables.
It does work, did you hook up a charge cable? MHL won't supply power unless your TV supports the standard.

Mine arrived today, works great.
Just received mine. I had to mess with the overscan settings on the tv to get rid of the black bars but it works well.

could you help me guys since it could be a deal breaker

Yes you do. It's annoying. I think there's a mhl cable you can buy that has the new hdmi pins without a need for a adapter.
well I dont have the adaptor at all...
what can I do so I wont remove the case an extension or something I dont know..

the monoprice 11-to-5 adapter has a longer-than-usual connector to allow it to work with cases.
Might be long enough to make it work with the defender case.

MHL Adaptor

Are you guys using the OEM samsung one or a third party one? I've been looking to get one and the Samsung one seems really overpriced. I ordered the Fosmon one but it was out of stock and the reviews for it aren't thay great so I might up ordering the OEM one.

I'm not talking about chargers, I'm talking about the adaptor that turns the phone's usb port into an hdmi port

I'm pretty sure we as Note 2 owners are locked into using Samsung's proprietary MHL adapter. We can't even use one that worked with the GS2, Galaxy Nexus, or even the Note 1 without an additional adapter. The GS3 and the Note 2 have a special pin layout that requires their newest and most expensive MHL adapter. Amazon has one for 34 bucks and I've been hesitant to jump on it because I don't know how much I'll really use it.
i just bought one samsung mhl to hdmi of ebay and it dint work on my note 2 only on the galaxy s3

I am using an 11 pin wire I bought off of amazon for 15 bucks. Its an all in one soulution. It has a micro usb head for the phone, full size usb to plug into your tv or power block and an hdmi. Works well. Ive had no problems.

It should be here tomorrow. Wish i would have seen that red one. Does the same job for half the price. Oh well i guess.
I ended up getting the official Samsung MHL adapter from best buy online because I had some rewards zone credits. paid nothing for it. Unfortunately, it turned out that it was the older generation adapter and doesn't work with my note 2. Ordered the 5pin to 11pin adapter from samsung using the 50% off coupon and paid 5 bucks (plus 4 bucks shipping sadly) This combination works perfectly. a bit clunky with the additional piece but cost me 9 bucks total, can't complain. Works perfectly even using the extra adapter. :good:
ps - smart dock for the note 2 is also avaliable on amazon atm

Galaxy SIII MHL?

Hey! Does anyone know if the MHL connector for the SIII is compatible with the the O.G? I just recently switched and I had my old one, but it seems like it won't plug in. Any help would be appreciated.

AW: Galaxy SIII MHL?
i think there are all the same
That's what I thought but for some reason it doesn't seem like it fits.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
That's because Samsung changed the number of pins on the charging port from 5 (which MHL requires) to 11 on the GS3. The OEM Samsung MHL cable takes this into account and is made for the SIII's 11-pin port. There was also an adapter made for the S3 which made it 5-pin compatible. Next time, if you still have your GS3, take a look at the differences in the charging port between the two phones.
For the LGOG, you just need a standard (non-Samsung) MHL cable.

How to play games in TV?

Hi,
I have mhl cable
I have HDMI cable.
I have LG LED HDTV
I connected the mhl cable to my s4 and connected HDMI cable to the mhl port. I switched on TV and selected the HDMI as the input but nothing is coming up on my TV screen.
In my knowledge, using mhl cable or adaptor I should be able to share my screen on my TV.
Any idea why it's not working as intended. Also is there is any way to play games on to my TV from my phone?
Your help is much appreciated.

Which MHL cable/adapter are you using? There are a lot of knockoffs and cheap-O brands.

You need the new mhl 2.0 adapter. The s3 started with the new adapter and the one for the s2 won't work anymore

Try The Samsung Brand
Samsung Makes a MHL to HDMI OTG style converter, I got one from amazon and it works for me, They tend to be a little bit more money compared to other though
Thanks All for your replies. that makes sense.
i will try to buy one, any recommendations apart from the Samsung brand?
