The usual recommendations are faux franco trinity and matrix. Try them out and see what works for you as every phone is different

Battery life is very important to me. My best combination has come with _motley kernel, now developed by @thracemerin as m+ (m+ thread, original thread). I slightly UV and UC using TricksterMod. For my ROM, I like some form of CM 10.1. The default CM 10.1 has great battery life, but I think the trailblazer11's linaro version is even better. I'm currently using Linaro Bean because it seems to get great battery life as well but is compiled with linaro and has a few added tweaks.
Personally, I love AOKP, but I've gotten miserable battery life with it on my N4, regardless of the kernel. Some of the combination/cherry pick ROMs are pretty good--personally I like Xylon and CodefireX, but Xylon has recently developed into a Frankenstein-like monstrosity, and CodefireX had some serious issues that weren't being fixed that were sufficient to send me back to CM.
Bottom line, though, like James says, is that it can vary a bit by phone, and a lot of it is personal preference.

I get really good battery life with SentinelROM and the included kernel - it is based on CM 10.1. With moderate use I get 48 hours, and I've never had less then 24 hours with normal use, including calls and the occasional game of Wordfeud
The combo i use now works great for me :
ROM - Stock Jelly Bean 4.2.2 JQD39
Kernel - Faux Stock Kernel Enhanced
Why ?
Stock ROM Because : While AOKP , CM and all others have very intereting features....i've noticed that the stock ROM is the most butter smooth of all of them...besides i think the phone on stock is just perfect.
Faux Stock Enhanced Kernel - While i consider the stock ROM is perfect...i cant say the same about the kernel. Faux's enhanced version provides you with GPU OC , Screen Color Control , UV and most important for me : Throttling temp upped alot.
With this combo i manage to get about 14 hours of phone (4h Heavy Usage + 2h normal usage + 8 hours asleep) and a buttersmooth user experience.
But the best kernel for just battery is no doubt Franco Kernel, i managed to get 18 hours out of it (5h heavy usage + 3h normal usage + 10 hours asleep) but the smoothness does dissapear i do advice that.

I have been using Francos kernel, and the new baseband, with both KANG and eaglyblood, i hav ejuicedfender installed on aggrasive, but i still cant get out much from the phone, i have right now on eaglybloods latest 1.5.
Running for 22h 4min
Screen on low: 39%
OS: 15%
Phone inactive: 12%
Voicecall: 9%
Mobile rest: 6%
Android system: 6%
Mediaserver: 4%
Now i havent used it alot, turn of everything i can, when screen of running on 2g only and such, i havent used it alot, listen to music for totaly 1h 30m. No surfing and such.
What roms and kernels have you used and what have you gotten out of it?
What extra apps maybe taskkillers and such do you use or think is good to get more battery?

Bad battery life? Do some searching and read his kernel thread. Battery life has been amazing with his past releases. Build 7.1 are heavily exceptional builds.
Anything before that, yes the battery life hasn't been so good. But now his focus shifted onto the battery. Many people included screenshots of their battery graph.
Aokp also has a power saver mode, read into that as well

I did run AOKP build 12 for 1 day, and thats how long my battry lastet with nearly no usage at all. The same with eaglyblood all on latest fran kernel, with juicedefender ultimate on agressive setting.
So how can i test and post graphs for you?
What baseband are you on?
Is there any good taskiller i can use?
Dont know what is using so much battery except the screen and i have it on very low always.
I use stock 4.0.2, non rooted or unlocked bootoader, and I find the battery life better than most android phones i've used previously. However, occasionally, it gets low, then i plug it in, and later it's charged again!! As if by magic!! Also i noticed that if i turn it off completely, the battery life is aammmmaaaazzziinnngggg!!! *palms face*
sorry, these battery life threads really get my goat! On a serious note though, one nugget of knowedge that I have taken from messing with android for years is, that if you, like me in the past, have been one of these types that just cannot stop flashing roms left and right, then you will never get to see the full potential of your battery. It does depend of course more on individual usage than anything else, but, settling on a rom of choice and using it normally over the course of a week or so will see you gain an increase in capacity thereafter, just through simple calibration.
Im running AOKP v.13 with Franco's Kernel 9.2 and battery is really great, even on heavy usage. There's almost no batter drain in Sleep Mode (last night ~8 hours, the battery just dropped for 2%).
I've set up my syncs, set up AOKP's Powersave Mode to my wishes and made a ScreenOff Profile for franco's Kernel. That's all, and im still on my second battery loading cycle. Cant wait to see what will happen if it's callibrated well.
With AOKP Rom and its Powersave Mode, you dont even need Juice Defender anymore, its doing nearly the same.

My battery holds 1 day 24hours, would say normal use with 2g on when screen of, 3g when screen on, i dont surf on it check facebook maybe 2 times on it, nothing more, text sms and few calls lasting maybe 40min total

How is your standby drain with that setup? 1% per hour? Or less?
Been playing with many combinations of ROM and kernel yet seems no matter what I try battery life is poor. Right now running coreDroid 1.3.3 with latest Franco kernel seems so so with slight under voltage settings within setcpu. So what is everyone else opinions? Thanks for feedback!

My best combination has come from AOKP Milestone 3 and Faux's 12u kernel. Usually get 16-20 hours with light/mod usage during the day and heavy usage in the evenings.

Best battery life I've seen yet is the stock 4.0.4 release w/ the kernel that comes with it. I get 4-7 hours with mod-heavy usage and 14-16 hours of light-mod usage.
I get 2-3 hours using Franco's kernel. Really not great. I should look around for a better kernel to suit my usage.

Jeez you use your phone a lot. I'm on kang 1/31 with faux's kernel. I use my phone for the commute to work and turn off lte when I get there. Mostly music and reading. I have it underclocked at 1060mhz and running under performance governor, it helps me check my phone and send out texts at work faster. Then at night I flip on lte again and a lot of the times go out. I don't think 15 hrs is too bad.

best battery life i had was 36 hours with moderate usage. no lie.
aokp b17 + francos 13.1, smooth and amaziiiiiing battery life. if i wasn't a flash junkie, i would be sitting on that right now.
I'm a little confused by your post. Are you developing a kernel or a rom? Either way looking forward to the release.

I got 42 hours without charging the phone yesterday, with 2 hours 40 minutes screen on time. I was using it very sparingly over the period though.
If we you want this thread to be useful we need to make sure all posts at least state screen ON time. Even then there are so many other factors:

Clarify Battery Life Info
I am not developing anything. I am just wondering what people that flash different kernels and roms have experienced and settled on as far as best battery life. In my sig there is the one I currently use. I actually have been trying franco kernel lately and that seems to be slightly better. Its tough to tell since I try to plug in the phone as often as possible either to outlet or my laptop. Does that help clarify what I am curious about??
So I've been using aokp for months now and franco's kernel even longer. both amazing pieces of work. franco's kernel has been 99 percent stable for me, with an occasional sod with a few builds here and there (nothing a full wipe can't fix). However after my last sod, I kept getting forced reboots upon startup so I just flashed the newest version of aokp and it's been working fine as expected.
my question is, can you guys tell me exactly all the advantages of using franco's kernel with this rom as opposed to the stock? even after using it all this time (since early December) I guess I haven't noticed any significant differences. maybe I haven't paid enough attention because so far this stock kernel in aokp seems to be handling everything just fine. thanks in advance

Ok..., let's give it a try:
Franco's latest (nightly) kernel has (in contrary to stock AOKP kernel):
Sound Control (in latest builds from Ezeechiel (is that the correct way you write his name?))
GPU overclock
HotPlug for disabeling 1 CPU whith screen lock
USB Fast Charge enabeled
Wifi Power Management for better WiFi reception on screen lock
Color control.
I'm sure I forgot some settings.
Right now I get about 1% of battery usage in 2 hours when idle with data on (not Wifi), maybe 10 - 20 % with screen on (depending reception, what I do etc.) and I never have reached such figures with stock. I would for sure recommend Franco's kernel but a lot depends on your preferences. For me long lasting battery is important so I go easy on the clock speeds of the CPU.

I am using the kernel that come with CM9 beard off of Linux and I love it, I am getting better battery life using this than Franco's, but I'm not sure if you can just the kernel, I think you need to be on the ROM as well...

i've tried lean,franco,glados and trinity..
both lean and trinity are my favorite, but for now i think i'll stick with lean
trinity for smoothness and super fast kernel
lean is for fast kernel + good batt
the latest trinity kernels...ofv and flatline are equal and in some cases better batt life then lean...without sacrificing performance...
I just recently purchased a Galaxy Nexus and have only tried out Franco Kernel. I get an average of 3.5 hours screen time while underclocked. After I record some accurate results, I think I'll switch to Lean Kernel in order to see which Kernel gives me the best battery life.

My thoughts exactly, although I've had my GNex for over 2 months.
Why not try both yourself for a while? Just flash them and see what suits you best... For me I started with Franco and just sticked to it as it works perfectly for my needs but I can't compare the both.
Tried Franco kernel, 17.2 give me the best battery life with slightly more than 3.5 hrs on screen time, for M1 and M2, can only last slightly less than 3 hrs on screen. Anyone also experience this?
Anyone here tried GlaDos kernel and have any reviews?

GLaDOS has both speed and good battery life. It's more or less based off the theory that processing stuff at higher speed will allow your phone to get more quickly back to sleep (not the same as "Deep Sleep"; the C4 rest state happens concurrently, even when you're on 1200 mhz).
But the only way to see if this pans out is to use it. You should try it with your daily usage and see if it works for you.*
For example, I find it has the best battery life for playing music with screen off (3% per hour speakerphone, 5-6% on bluetooth) and matches [or beats] the others for stress-usage (screen on, 8-10 apps in background gets around 20%). I haven't tried intermediate usage, because frankly, I don't use only a few apps when I'm using, so that's a gap to fill I guess. Note: streaming music is apparently a problem, judging from recent reports.
*Use BetterBatteryStats or an app with series history; the graph should become linear partway and that's when you know to take numbers.

For example: previously while running bixie's stock and AndroidME, I had great performance with Trinity. However, on AOKP, trinity delivered poor battery life. With AOKP, I found Franco to be a better match.

OK, you're right I didn't really gave you enough information on my end)
I'm using stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1 OTA, I did rooted my phone so that I can install different kernel
I'm using few social (facebook,google+,foursquare,etc) apps, some messengers (what'sup,kik,google voice)
as far as data goes I'm using Juice Defender and that helps me a bit with my data on/off
but what _REALLY_ kills my battery is screen, in the best case scenario I was able to archive a little over 2h of screen time and in most cases it's ~1:30h
i'm using standard battery in my phone.
my goal is _SOMEHOW_ increase screen time
that's why I'm trying out franco kernel)

I get horrendous battery life on just about every rom and kernel I try that's just a gnex I guess, that being said air kernel has significantly increased my battery life on any rom I use it on. Settings I use are 1200 max 230 min smartass2 governor and sio scheduler

I don't think that there is much difference between Custom rom and Adroid versions, I noticed that JB seems to be more of a power drain hog than ICS.. But as usual it mainly depends on your personal usage and the main drain source is (then) always the screen.
Lowering the screen brightness will have more effects than kernels and custom roms

There isn't one... and nobody can tell YOU what kind of battery life YOU'RE going to get. Try something and make it work for you

well, i've been testing, and now i have nearly 24 hours of medium use with MIUIv4 with GLaDOS kernel
liquidsmooth v2 beta 1 with trinity
Although it still has a few bugs it's really fast and smooth and I get about 15-18 hours with 2-3 hours screen on and a few apps keeping phone awake
