I have been trying to root my GS4 since Friday. It will not work. I have the Tmobile version M919.
I did the motochopper one on my Main Win7 computer it fails.
Did it it on the netbook win 7 failed.
Did it on the mac and it failed.
So, I decided to do the oden thing. Well I get to where it says passed. But when I try to boot into recovery it is the android recovery and not CWM. What the heck is going on. Ben at this for 3 days and it is driving me crazy. A friend of mine just got the ATT one. I sent him the info to root it on the mac he did it within 10 min. Mine won't do it. I am wondering if Tmobile has something to do with this. I got an update from them a few days ago.
Anyone have info to fix this problem or is it just me? The only other possible thing that I can think of is this. I have a GS2 and it is rooted. I signed in with my google info on the GS4 which brought some of my rooted apps and some of my superuser, rootchecker and stuff lilke that. Would that stop it from rooting? Sorry for the misspelling.

I have a rooted GS3, S2 but this phone man what a pita. But I know it should be super easy.

Showed it passed. It rebooted. I chose shut down. Pulled cord out volume up, home button power and the android system recovery comes up. Did this 3 times as far as trying to get into the recovery. I don't get it. Should I do a factory reset on the phone or something just to pull my root checking app, super user stuff off there. Also I did run the zip file a few times earlier today. It did something weird. After the phone rebooted it just kept playing this music over and over. Sounded like upbeat church music I would hear on a Sunday morning.

The phone is off. I push down volume up, home button down and then hit the power button. It comes up galaxy s4 and then I let off the power button and about that time the android recovery comes up. Happens every single time. I have rooted every single phone that I have had. I used to work at a cell phone shop here in Dallas. I am going to make some calls tomorrow and see if I can find someone else to root it and see if they have the same problems. But this should be a no brainer I would think. I just can't figure out why it is not working.
Since nothing is working I just did this.
I reset the phone. Created a new gmail and drop box account. Ran odin on it. Restarted it and same thing again. Just boots into Android Recovery.
it happen the same picture as me yesterday!
let start over from beginning.
1.first factory reset

Now you have to get the original unrooted factory rom .tar file and restore your phone back to factory. Your phone is just soft bricked so you are very lucky. Use google or the xda search feature and look up something along the lines of "SGH-T989 .tar file" or "T-Mobile Galaxy S II tar". The exact file you need is floating around here somewhere.

First do a battery pull, then put the battery back into the phone, hold both the up and down volume rocker and press the power button till the phone vibrates (letting you know its been turned on), soon as the phone vibrate then release the power button but do not let go of the volume rocker until you see the recovery image! Once you see the recovery image you are easily back in business. Let me know if you can at least get into recovery.

Then put in download mode and wait for comp. to recognize phone again. try entering recovery and flash a basic stock ROM from dev section. See if that works.

phone wont get into recovery mode or download mode...
So after rooting my recent Tmobile GS3 and then attempting to flash the overclock my phone simply wont turn on. The root did fine, and I was able to install setcpu and everything but the second I installed the overclock my phone shut down. Now whenever I attempt to turn my phone it just flashes the Samsung insignia and then it shuts down. I can get to the Downloading screen (by pressing Volume down + power + home) but can I do anything about that? If someone can help me out that would be amazing. Thanks.
Also, I tried flashing a stock rom with Odin and it keeps failing. If anyone knows anything thank you.
Can you get into recovery? Volume up + home + power
If so then flash back to a nandroid backup or to a new rom or whatever.
If recovery wont boot, try again but look for blue text at the top right corner that says "booting recovery" when the sammy logo comes up. I've had it where my recovery wouldnt boot but I saw that for a split second when I tried. If this is the case, get back into download mode and flash the insecure boot + cwm again with Odin. Then you should be able to get into recovery.
If Odin fails to flash, reboot you're computer and try a different USB cable.

well I thought I'd give it a try using instructions here. and now I'm hosed. I was able to root and install the ALLINONE (Insecure Boot, CWM & Busybox) rebooted, super user showed up in apps etc. I thought everything was fine. the next thing I tried was disable boot up animation and now the phone won't boot up at all.
I can get into the recovery and download screens but whenever I try to restore I get "can't mount /sdcard/"
The toolkit no longer sees my phone either. When it's plugged in and the toolkit is active, it just cycles over and over "samsung" then "Samsung Galaxy SIII" logo then black screen repeat.
The toolkit keeps giving message either "device not found" or "Waiting for USB debugging to be enabled".

I tried that a few times to no avail and gave up. figured out that I needed to unzip the stock rom from t-mobile in order for Odin to recognize and load it. That's where I left it last night. So I'm now back to stock and reloading all my apps and settings.

I'm very comfortable with flashing and using custom roms, I've been doing this since the original Droid.
I rooted my GS3 right after I got it, and it was great until the OTA updates started coming out too quickly.
I like having root use, so I decided to flash the new blazer rom, I always liked the one for the gs2.
So I download it, put it on external SD, go to clockworkmod, nandroid backup, wipe data/factory reset twice, flashed the rom.
It won't turn on. It just buzzes, shows the samsung screen and shuts off.
Fine, it doesn't work i guess. So I go to put it back in recovery. NOTHING. just buzzes a few times, that's it.when charging while off it shows the battery icon, but when i hold volup home button and power it acts like it's going into recovery, then shuts off.
I don't know what to do I've never had an issue getting any phone into recovery.

If you took any OTA, Samsung patched the stock recovery to rewrite itself everytime it boots. I suggest you odin VALEN (LEN stock 100% stock), and start the rooting process all over again. Look up QBKing77's videos on youtube on how to unroot SGS3 and how to root it and you'll be back to where you want to be.
Blazer didnt brick your phone. You did by accepting the consequences of flashing a 3rd party rom on your device. the warnings are in post 1 of his thread

I think whoever said that if i had ever accepted an OTA update a few comments ago hit the nail on the head. my kids were playing with the phone and accepted it about a week ago. it didn't work obviously, but i guess it re-wrote something that is causing this issue. I'm going back to stock whenever the VPALEN stock rom is done downloading. It seems sprint or google or samsung doesn't like us to mess with the phones, and keeps putting out "fixes" for people who have rooted. it'd be nice to watch my movies on there without worrying about the drm but at this point I'd just like my too damn expensive phone back lol.

This is exactly what I was about to suggest. File corruption is actually quite common and you can get a bad download just by downloading a file straight to your phone. Try re-downloading the file on PC, then transfer it to the device.
Ok, I am in big trouble. I was flashing a new rom which needed me to switch to CWM as a recovery. I thought I had flashed it correctly but when I booted to recovery all it does now is stay on the Samsung logo over and over. The volume up, center button, and power button sequence will not load the phone into default recovery. I can use the volume down sequence to get it into odin download mode. I am a mac user but I went to friends house to use a pc. I downloaded Odin, downloaded drivers for Samsung, downloaded stock tar file. Odin recognizes the phone when I open it; or at least I think it does, it shows a com port selection in yellow which goes away when I unplug the usb cable. So I go to PDA and select the tar file I downloaded and then odin runs for a second then says all threads completed, success 0, failed 1. I have downloaded two different tar files each time making sure I have the correct one for my ATT model. I then tried the Kies method but Kies will not connect to the phone. What can I do now? Why will odin not work? Please help. Thank you

Thank you for verifying, but as I said I can't get the phone to do anything when I do the volume up, home, and power button.

No the phone just does a continuous loop of Samsung logo. I can do the volume down sequence to get into download mode. But no luck hitting volume up, then home, then power. Also no luck hitting them all at the same time. I read in another post that as long as I can still get to download mode there is still hope.
Keep trying u are just doing it wrong... what I do is in this sequence, go vol up home powere then hold for a bit then release power then release other 2

Ok I will have to give it a try tomorrow. I only have a Mac, so I will have to go somewhere to us a PC. Wish there was a an Odin for Mac. Hope it works. So bricked is only when phone won't turn on at all?
I was using the Cyanogenmod that recently went out to the Google Play market. I decided to go back to stock and tried to do a Firmware recovery in Samsung Kies. It all seemed to go fine but when it's time to start up I just hang on the Samsung logo.
I've been trying to fix it and even used Odin to flash a stock ROM (latest release from November 19th) which was successful, but I am still not having any luck getting the phone to start. It's just hanging every time I restart.
Does anybody have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I hate to be such a noob but I could really use a few pointers.
Thanks so much

I don't have the stock recovery or I can't access it I think. When I hold the Vol Down + Home and power it on I get the screen that says to hit Vol Up to continue. When I do that I don't have any options, just the "Downloading" screen. It also says "Odin Mode" at the top

Factory Reset didn't work.
The last thing I flashed using Odin was this: T999UVUEMJC_T999TMBEMJC_TMB
Not sure if that makes any difference.

Any time you do a factory reset or flash a new ROM it may take 5 to 10 minutes, and this is pretty standard. The reason why is it is booting deodexed instead of odexed I believe. The distinction is clarified in the link below.
Please see "Deodex is Slower, Then Why Bother?":

Everyone started out a noob here. The difference is that some of them persisted. Keep up the tinkering :good:.
