privacy screen protectors despised ? Poll! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Takin a poll on screen protector preferences for the note 2 ,and mainly how the privacys are nice but jack up the screen quality, if not for the pesky cross lines that angle across lcd they would be ok, Seems yeda is a popular brand that presents this .... Any makers of a clearer cleaner Privacy screen protector?

Ive tried about 4 differerent privacy screen brand and all have a slight issue. Clears way to go.... unless your going to like f4p in public or are on some secret mission noone cares enough to spy on what your doing on phone.

I personally hate screen protectors in general. It totally crappifies a screen. Why don't you try going for a software solution like Screen Filter?

HAGZ Screen Barrier....might help
We make screen protectors in Southern California from HD Japanese film, but not privacy filters yet. Working on it.
They come with a 3 year warranty; don't bubble up over time. Easy to install and will not peel off. More info on our website Hagzinc. Also available on Amazon and Sears.
Thanks...

Since ive posted ive torn off my privacy protector and canned it.
Probably just get an hd zagg
I Only use them to protect in pocket use from quarters Pennys and miscellaneous pocket junk that could scratch screen

I agree. I am not a fan. I like the flip cover the Note 2 for protecting the screen while in my pocket. My wife on the other hand, puts a screen protector on her phones the minute they come out of the box. She normally gets a lot more for her phones when she sells them but oh well.

I can't go with out some form of screen protector mine has already saved a ton of scratches off mine. But the privacy ones jack things up to much .

What do you have in your pockets? Screws and nails?
I've not used a screen protector on all my android phones, including ones without gorilla glass. I've never had scratch issues.
Just need to dedicate one pocket specifically for phone and all other stuff in the other pocket.

Yeah, I think we might be the few. I'm super careful and also put the phone in my pocket facing me (always make sure nothing else in there). Seems to do a great job of keeping all the smudges off. ( I dont have much to begin with but) I seriously can't imagine putting anything on the beautiful screen. But I think for a lot of people who don't pay much attention to these kind of stuff, maybe the protection is worth it. Certainly beats scratches.

I just bought the new glass version from sphein 'sp' i got on a discount from 36 something and paid 21. Its not a film, its 9h hardened glass. Its the best money I have ever spent on screen protection. It really feels like going bareback.
One of the biggest plus's is you wont see single finger print, no sumges, no glare like bareback. The edges are rounded unlike my buddies glass version. His was the first I had ever felt and had to have one. I just didn't know my version had the rounded edges which makes a great deal of "feel" difference and doesn't snag in you pocket like his does. I would say if you can afford it then its atleast worth trying.

I dedicate one pocket for phone as well and have never had a scratch that my naked eye could make out. I have had quite a few Android phones over last few years as well.
I do immediately put a case on it though.
Fancy pants Note ||

I don't know how people can get by dedicating a pocket just to a phone.
What about a pen and pad, smokes and lighter, gun and ammo, keys, wallet, sunglasses, knife, not to mention charging cable and adapter...and those are just basic never-leave-home without it essentials?
I love privacy protectors but haven't found one for the note 2 yet. I frequently have to report on people next to or near me and they should not be seeing what I am writing, that is between them and hr, not them and I.
I also need to make adjustments to cad drawings supplied by clients which they should not be privy to, as they are internal company documents at that point. If the client is standing right there, how else to manage that?
Frequently I have to use my MyTouch 4G Slide phone for these things since it still has a privacy protector on it.

yeah i dunno where you live to need to carry around gun, ammo, and a knife O_O ... anyways, use a car charger and you won't have to carry around a cable/adapter and i'd just stick the rest of your other things in a backpack ... or something. keys, phone, and wallet are really what i just keep on me.

I just ordered one and cant wait to get it... this phone catches peoples eyes and i hate it when theyre reading my emails and texts etc..

[Q] PRIVACY screen protectors

used the search to no avail.
SOOOO, i was looking for a privacy screen protector for my captivate.
looked on amazon, ebay, some online vendors.
i ended buying one off of ebayer belldandychan and it did a good job of limiting the viewable angle of the screen BUT, a HUGE BUT, the damn thing was so thick that it rendered the capacitive touch USELESS. the touchscreen was 100% unresponsive with the protector applied.
after exchanging a few emails with the seller, i got my money refunded (spent around 5 USD total) and threw the protector in the trash.
so, if anyone has had any experience with a good privacy screen protector for captivates that doesn't nullify the touch interface of your phone..... let me know!!
also- cost doesn't really matter to me, although i expect to probably pay no more than 10 for a small sheet of plastic.
i'm a little bit shocked there wasn't already a thread about this in the captivate accessory forum. aren't privacy screen protectors pretty vital? i just think it would be reassuring to know i'm the only one who can see what's on my screen, whether it's private personal information, emails, sms. i don't even like it when people on the bus watch me play a game. it's just a little too intimate for me. then again, even riding the bus WITH STRANGERS, who are sometimes dangerous, smell bad, have lice, are sweating like shaq at the freethrow line, etc, is sometimes a little too intimate for me.

I can't vouch for the quality or the transmissibility of the light through the privacy screen - but Sammy sells their own 3 pack (clear, mirror, privacy) of screen protectors:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ET-I897SRPGATT
If you wind up purchasing, please post a review - I've been considering this for the privacy screen myself!
LOL I love how it costs $30 and in the only review for the product on the webpage the guys says Pros: Inexpensive.

I have their regular screen protector and love it, but I don't have any experience with the privacy version.
Go to any AT&T store and buy their screen protectors, they are the same as Samsung ones and cost $9.99
I see from samsung site that they have a separate screen protector called "scratch resistant"... well, since when did screen protectors giving being scratch protectants? Isn't it their basic job?

My wife had a mirror screen protector on her captivate for a bit. It too was thick and her back button worked about 5% of the time. She has since taken it off and went back to a standard screen protector. I think you might run into the same issues with most "privacy" protectors.

Nice review. I'm enjoying mine after a week and a half. Weird question: do you notice that the screen protector seems to shift around slightly? Sometimes mine is perfectly centered, then when I look at it later it's very clearly too far to one side? And eventually it shifts to the other side or re-centers itself. Either my finger swipes are causing it to slide around or I'm hallucinating!
I just installed this today. Very easy install went on perfect first time. Just have to get used to my fingers not sliding across the screen as well. It's super clear tho can't even really tell it's there unless you are looking for it. Nice sp.

The initial friction you feel goes away and it feels and looks smooth as glass.. I've had mine on for a week and a half now, these things are great. Also, to the guy who said it is sliding around, either you did not install it correctly or you are REALLY putting some pressure into your swipes (even then I don't see these things moving). I have used Steinheill protectors for years, once they are down, they do not move! You are hallucinating.
I just put one on my GS3. Have to admit, its awesome once on. I've had to double check multiple times to make sure its actually there.
Getting it to separate from the back and front covers it ships with was a challenge. I ended up wasting one of the three in the package, but got a good install on my second attempt. Paired mind with a diztronic tpu case. So far no issues -- let's see how it fares long-term.

S III Durability

Hi folks
I'm considering getting the S III but am not sure about the screen durability as i've heard a lot of mixed reviews. How durable is it? Looking at some break tests on youtube suggests that the screen is a lot more sensitive as compared to other phone. Is that true?
btw, what is a good case for this device ?
Thanks!

I dunno if this counts, but I keep dropping mine and the only damage so far is a little scratching on the corner of the outer plastic bezel when I dropped it once pretty hard on some rough tar. I haven't seen any other blemishes on the case, and so far no scratching at all on the glass. I loved my Nexus One, but the glass on that scratched pretty easy just sitting in my pocket. Not so with the SIII, no scratches at all on the glass in the 3 mo I've had the phone.
I don't have a case for it.

Similar experience...phone dropped from my pocket while sitting, landed on the corner, cracked screen...probably hit the weak spot on the phone, regardless, shouldn't break that easily IMO..
It is not durable at all compared to my previous phones (gs2, hd2) if you drop it there will be serious cosmetic damage. The plastic is extremely soft.

Get an Otter Box, you pay that much for a phone then spend an extra 50 bucks to keep it safe.
Get a case if your gonna pick up the GS3... its a beautiful phone but you need to make sure you can protect it... I dropped my phone 4 times since I got it and thank God I bought a case for it. If I didn't have one, then my screen would have been shattered already

yea that's why i'm hesitant in buying it (3 actually). The issue seems widespread and if it is a case of bigger screen then it is a serious design flaw or maybe a manufacturing flaw. At this point im probably going to put off buying this phone but let's see if things change

I feel like the S II was way more durable. But that's why I bought insurance for this phone. Never had insurance on any other device. And the fact that I have an extended battery and there really aren't any good cases for extended batteries made me get the insurance.

It's a phone and it uses glass, it doesn't matter what phone it is if your looking at Youtube and their hitting it with a hammer or dragging a razor over the screen then it's gonna do as expected. It's almost comical that people do these tests considering you spend money on the phone you should be responsible for it and take care of it. Accidents happen and the carriers know this so instead take care of your property, it doesn't matter who made it or what some moron with a hammer says.
all that is fine but generally speaking one does expect some level of durability for a device that costs upwards of $700 dollars, specially if the company is touting the latest and greatest gorilla glass 2 as one of the main features of the phone. Cellphones break when dropped, everyone should know that. But the amount of complaints i've come across regarding the S III and the different ways the screen is getting damaged is quite abnormal to say the least.
Anyway, i'm still debating whether i should pass on this phone or go for it. Anything new coming up in the coming weeks?

You never hear the whole story either when people give these reviews, "I had it in my pocket and the screen cracked" turns into I was drunk and fell down the stairs.
I still have all of my devices in perfect shape and it all comes down to how well someone takes care of their things. If your gonna carry the phone in your pocket with your car keys then its gonna happen, I see it all the time and like you said at $700.00 you should act like it's worth it. You want an honest opinion on the device? It's worth every penny but the one thing that would make me warm and fuzzy about it is if HTC built the body. It still feels solid but theres nothing like a well built frame like you would find on the One S or X. No other device comes close to the functionality and multitasking that this one does and I own 8 myself (different devices not all cells.)

Scratch on note 2 screen, anyway to fix?

I just paid $325.00 for a note 2 on ebay. The seller stated that the phone was hardly used, looked and operated like new. Besides the fact that i got no charger or box which was in the picture, the phone has a 1 inch wide deep scratch on the bottom part of the screen. I REALLY want to keep this phone but man i feel like i just got had and im ticked off. I already ordered a screen protector from SGP and my question is, would this help diminish the look of a scratch? Ive asked for a full refund but maybe im thinking i could deal with it if he is willing to give a partial refund and i can mask most of this scratch some how. What would you guys do?

basically you have no options other than buying a new screen or trying to "fill" the scratch but that would never work. you would really have to know what your doing to do it right without making that portion of the screen inoperable.

I advise against getting the glass replaced.. The Note II screen is like many new phones these days fused together with the digitizer.. Sure it can be done but I wouldn't attempt it myself.. When I was using my Note 2 I got a scratch on the display and bought a replacement lcd/digitizer on ebay. It was around $200 but replacing it myself was simple.

If you get an anti glare screen protector it will diminish the scratch of the glass and make it somewhat smooth when you use your s pen... You won't feel a thing and you will most likely notice the scratch a little less... But this things are annoying as heck. Knowing it's always there, screen replacements are expensive because of the digitiser... But I think you can just buy the glass instead of the whole thing... You won't be able to do it yourself without damaging something though.

Depends how deep is a scratch and how much patience you have, you could wet sand and polish the screen. I did successfully sanded out scratches from smartphones. I started with 1000 grid sand paper, followed by 1200, later 1500 and 2000. Polished with fine compound using dremel and buffing pad and looked like new. Just remember to mask area around scratch and make sure that water will not go inside phone.

Unless the scratch is worth $300 more to you. In that case don't.
Or you can google "remove scratch gorilla glass" and see how to grind and polish the whole screen down.
Or you can order a screen and take your chances doing the surgery.

Here's a pic of the scratch. Upon turning this phone on, I've noticed a much smaller but oddly more noticeable scratch in the middle. It's very shallow so I'm sure a screen protector would mask majority of it. Of course the buyer is not answering my messages.

Aren't you the buyer? If the seller isn't answering messages take it up with eBay. They usually get you your money back. If the seller won't answer ebay they will ban him from making anymore sales

Replacing the screen by itself is extremely hard to do and you risk cracking the AMOLED, too. I repair Note 2 cracked screens/AMOLED by simply replacing the whole housing with a new one. They're expensive however. They can run over $100 in ebay.
Easiest thing to do is get a full refund if you can't stand the scratch. Complain to ebay or credit card company if you used a credit card in paypal. Or just put a screen protector to mask the scratch out a little bit.

You could try lens repair compound. It won't risk damaging the screen like wet sanding can, but it may not bond although it should without any problems. Its a polymer you rub into the scratches and it backfills them to make them less visible to almost invisible and makes them smooth again. It's usually around $20 for a small kit but it lasts a long time since you only use a few drops per scratch. I'm not sure where to buy it in a brick and mortar but it's pretty easy to find online. Its almost identical to the cracked windshield stuff they sell but is more viscous since it's for scratches and not cracks. The best ones are the ones used for eyeglasses. Some of the others aren't as optically clear if they're for glass objects and not glass used for viewing. I've used it on everything from eyeglasses to high end wristwatches without any problems except one item I used it on it didn't bond so the scratch remained after the compound peeled off.

I do a lot of business on eBay and worst case scenario is to return as it wasn't described as received......
EBay resolution is very good with those things

I would try to get partial refund and deal with the scratch. Other than that your other option is put a screen protector and maybe that will cover it a little otherwise file a claim with eBay for full refund. Depending on the description of the eBay ad you may have a case. Remember that eBay will pay your shipping back to seller. This is one reason I , are there any scratches on screen before I bid, eBay will use these questions in case anyone ever files a claim. And this is another reason why I now use swappa.com to buy and sell all my phones.
In the end if scratch really bothers you first contact seller to arrange a return. If they say no or want to make you pay shipping back to him then you'll have to file a claim. Good luck. Any questions let me know. I sell alot on eBay and have recently sold 2 phones with another up for sale on swappa.

If seller doesn't answer then start the resolution process. If they don't respond within an alotted time you automatically win the case.

The seller has agreed to refund me part of the money to go towards a new digitizer. Hopefully the phone activates without any problems.

Okay guys..

I've been reading a lot of reviews, but I value the opinions of my fellow xda members a lot more than those of strangers on amazon
I just got a cheapo screen cover for my phone, and I'm a little disappointed.. This sucker is an unbelievable fingerprint magnet. And not only does it catch a lot of prints, bit you actually almost need soap and water to get them off. Additionally, it really doesn't have the smooth feel than the naked glass did. My fingers seem to catch and snag way more than they should.
I've looked at the sprigen glass.t and glass.tr and there seems to be a lot of negative feedback regarding their sizing and how well the corners stay down, especially for their high price.
So does anyone know of a nice, high quality screen cover that feels good to the touch and doesn't look like a toddler has been running his candy covered fingers over it after 30 minutes if use?

If installed correctly the glas.tr works perfect.
I had it on my phone for a couple months. Loved the feel, feels just like the phones screen. No fingerprints. I dropped it somehow and the screen protector cracked but the phone was fine.
SPG does 1 year warranty replacements on them. $18.

Do you have the glass.tr from sgp?
If so do the software buttons work on custom roms, like CM and GE? Because HTC just updated their stock os to make them work.

I don't have the Spigen tempered glass protector, but I do have MIME's version. MIME and Spigen both report requiring software version 1.29.709.12 or better. Every current Sense and Google Edition-based rom should work fine, as they're built on much more recent versions than that. Not 100% sure about the AOSP-based roms, but I suspect they're fine too. I've personally used TrickDroid and the GE version of ARHD with no issues with the buttons.

I got the mime glass screen cover and it's perfect
Capacitive buttons work flawlessly. You have to have your firmware updated to the 4.2 version, can't remember the actual version number for it.. That firmware contains an update to the button drivers which fix the unresponsiveness with glass covers. What rom you're using won't matter, as roms don't influence firmware.
