Okay, so I'm familiar with what I thought were all the signal types - H, H+, E, LTE...
But today I saw one that I haven't seen before...
"D"?
Haha may be Tmobile start to categorize their customer.

Wow, really? What's the difference between HSPA, HSPA+, and now DC-HSPA+? How many different speeds are we going to have?
Edit - Oh, heck no. It couldn't have been DC-HSPA+.. I was in Charles Town, WV, and had NO signal while driving through town, and then a couple miles south, I suddenly had the 'D' signal. I live in the boon docks outside of town and get 'E"/ Edge.
..Unless, they're putting a new tower into server. Ooh, that would be cool.
HSPA is 3G, HSPA+ is 4G (but it's just a buff up 3G version), and DC-HSPA+ is 4G its 42 Mbps

4g in LI is a secondary market, but I bet they are already starting to change to Network Vision. The whole Island will have 4G LTE by mid to late 2013. As soon as the NYC market is finished your area will get a LTE bath.
I saw on the S4GRU map that Queens and parts of Hempstead was already being worked on for Network Vision.
yeah ive been hoping those predictions are true... i work in queens and am in NYC often, but haven't had to much 1x experiences there yet...
hear NYC should be by the end of this year, so hopefully wont have too long of a wait...
Dying for some LTE in the city and Bx, my phone is pretty much like a dummy model when I'm at work.

LTE is NOT 4G. They all call it that, but it's more like 3.9G. LTE-Advanced will be 4G when it is finalized and deployed on carrier networks next year.

I personally don't notice much difference by leaving LTE on versus turning it off. I usually get 2 days of use on a full charge. My results may be skewed a bit cause the lte signal is weak in my area, so my phone automatically switched over to 3G.

Give me a break man. I know what 4G is constituted by but with the carriers pushing out their crap (HSPA+ as 4G) calling LTE 4G is a happy medium.
And I was just trying to figure what the hell that guy was talking about when he said 4G. LTE, WiMax, Real 4G, dumb AT&T/T-Mo 4G?
If I understand correctly. The s4 processor has the lte integrated in such a way that is a bit more battery efficient than a snapdragon s3 device with lte.
This might be better in the Verizon form as they have LTE (we do too but in 5cities).

Do you mean normal for Jacksonville or normal for LTE? As far as LTE, I guess it varies...Like I live in a spotty LTE area right now and pull anywhere between 5-9mbps but when I go down near Jerome Ave in the Bronx, I'm always pulling 20's. Today I got 33.29mbps in that same neighborhood. We'll all get there...hopefully sooner than later.

LTE is very signal strength dependent. EvDo RevA's (Sprint's 3G) speeds don't deteriorate unless it reaches a very low signal threshold. Next time you connect to the LTE site at Publix, open up your debugging menu and screenshot the LTE engineering screen and post it here.
With 6mbps, you have a rather low (-110dBm to -115 dBm signal strength). If your signal strength is high, then you should experience better speeds.

Sprint's in a position where they simply don't have the spectrum to deploy anything greater than a 5x5mhz carrier per market. This means LTE speeds will max out at about 38mbps, and even this is under extremely favorable conditions.
But worry not for Clearwire alone has more spectrum than Verizon does, and Clearwire, starting mid-2013 will be deploying LTE advanced on a 20x20mhz carrier! This means speeds will be up to 90mbps. Hang in there because even with Sprint's LTE maxing out at 38mbps, it's still very fast and the best part...unlimited.

And do you really need higher than 35 megabits on your phone... hell no. I'd be happy with 3 or 4!

4G LTE is also available at DFW. I did a speed test and it was running 19 mbps. Not sure if it can go faster or not since the max is 20 mbps on speedtest app. I am very happy with galaxy s4.
Can anyone in a KNOWN LTE area who is using PREPAID confirm whether or not they are getting LTE? I was told by T-Mo that prepaid SIM are not provisioned for LTE.
I've always gotten 20mbps down that's not LTE. Your on LTE if your upload speed is well over the normal 2-3 mbps
If it was HSPA there would be better coverage and it would have been there in the past. This coverage map was empty one month ago when i checked it. Its appearance coincides with the lte roll out.
Did hspa ever get 20mbps?!
The data icon should be something like 4G with subscript LTE. Also, the tests that I ran, the upload speeds were 7 Mbps and 12 Mbps. The bad news is that LTE was on for couple hrs and now it is off. I guess they are still testing the towers. Im from DFW.
I'm using an HTC One, but just noticed today that 4G LTE was displaying in the status bar whereas before it just said 4G. This is in Hollywood to be more precise.
There's LTE all over West LA now. This was as of last night.

That is pretty impressive. where are you located?
I don't know why, but with my S4 and Note 3 HSPA (4G) I get 27 down and 9 up on average, but on LTE I only get 13 down and 12 up. HSPA seems to be a little faster here in Tampa, Florida than LTE. T-Mobile's HSPA is capable of 42 MBPS and so are the phones. So i keep my phone set at hspa instead of LTE. I also get 4 to 5 bars of signal on 4G and only 1 or 2 on LTE which might explain the speed difference
Just did a test outside near a tower. I got 22 down and 11 up. Pretty decent.
