[Q] Gingerbread huge battery drain

This seems strange.Yesterday after upgrading to gingerbread ( with the RUU because the OTA didn't work for me) I got a huge battery drain.Over the night I got a loose of 40% and now only 3 hours after unplugged and lost 20%.
I only took a few pictures and a phone call.
Only few apps installed since i got this rom since only yesterday.
Anybody experienced this and is there a fix?
Hello,
I can confirm this.
I have also a high battery drain with ALL Android 2.3.* ROMs.
I use the recommend Radio for each ROM and I've checked the RIL to be sure the Radio is correct. But doesn't matter, current in StandBy is between 30 and 50mA.
Only if I turn off WLAN and Mobile Intenet, then I have normal values between 3 and 5mA.
With FroYo I can leave WLAN and Mobile Internet enabled and I had 3-5mA in StandBy
It could not be an application, because I've tried this with a fresh install without Google account to avoid the installation of external apps.

you'd have to edit the build.prop and change the rescan time from 15 seconds to 30, 60, 90 or 120 (or whatever you perfer the rescan intercal to be at)

Try resetting the battery stats by doing the whole charge, lead out, charge, turn off, charge etc. thing.
Also, whilst not a stock RUU I did find it took a few days for the battery drain to calm down a bit. First instal lowest was around 50mA but adfter a fe days it went down to 4-5mA.

Thank you for your help
What does that value do?
Is that the rescan value of WLAN?
The current stays high even if WLAN is off and mobile internet is on.
Only if both are disabled I get a low StandBy current.

Yes I know this, and I've tried this every time I was flashing a ROM (I mean reset the battery stats)
After a few days? How many days do you mean? 2, 3, 4, 5 days?
@both
But why this problem does not exist on froyo?

Varies but on average I find it takes about 3 days to settle to a point where I see a consistent drain.

Unknown. It's not 100% due to GingerBread as I've only seen a handful of people complain of this issue (relatively speaking). I see more people saying how much better their battery life is after the update than saying it's poorer.
Doesn't help I know but makes me believe that this is maybe a Network / Radio issue in that the new Radio with GB does not play well with the Network. We had this a few times on the HTC Hero.
Ok...i have airplane mode on for about 2 days.in those 2 days i almost didn't use the phone and got only a 7% lose.As soon as i used the camera(recorded around 15 min) it got down to 50% .
I will test it tonight widought airplane mode on and see the resoults. Also wifi seems to a lot of battery in comparance to froyo.

I haven't noticed these problems with CM7. I got 2.5-3 hours per 1% of drain in standby using juice defender.
If you are finding that turning off data etc is fixing the problem use juice defender. Even the free version will help a lot as it will stop your phone using data willynilly and instead turn it to a periodic sync. With the paid version you can have it stop all together during certain periods or increase doing certain periods. Aka stoping at night and extra during busy hours at work.
Should be a good fix, though it is only covering up the underlying problem still.
Can't really recommend the app enough. With it my phone only uses data when I tell it to (like opening facebook app) or periodicaly to sync and check emails etc. I do use the paid version though for the extra features.
totally agree. i have been using juice defender for about a week. its been a big help. just bought the ultimate a few min ago. going to start customizing.
sorry that i dont have any data yet to back up my statement. maybe in a future post.

im using Leedroid 3.0.3 and i dont get any such battery drain..
tbh im getting a better battery life from GB than from froyo..
on standby currentwidget shows me between 4-7ma with wifi on... with a peak once in a while..and i lose abt 1 to 1.5% per hour
with wifi off i get about 3-5ma..
i dont use mobile data much so cant really comment on that..
try calibrating your battery and try changing the scan interval in the build.prop... i normally keep it at 90...
i never used any battery saving apps, so cant comment on their performance either...
go to wifi advanced settings and untick Best Wifi Performance... that also helps a lot!
hope you get your problem sorted
Thank you all for the help
The issue was not with gingerbread...I just left my phone one night with wifi turned on and lost 40%.But still when I was on Froyo wifi wouldn't loose so much battery. Now I loose almost 2-3% every 15 min if surfing the web with wifi.
And about changing the scan interval in the build.prop...How can I do that?Do I need root?
I'm also having battery problems, but mine are a little bit different, if I'm on wifi it uses between 3 to 5% with a peak now and then. if wifi is off and I'm on 3g, it's between 5 and 500 ma and you see only peaks if you check currentwidget. anyone a clue? working on ARHD 5.1.6 now, but problem was there since version 3
I have battery problems also, my battery dries after 1 day of use. For example this morning, I unplugged my phone full from the charger at 10 am. I went into town, listened to about 20 minutes of FM radio. When i stopped the radio, I still had 98% left of the battery. OK so far. After, I talked for about 5 minutes, sent 4 messages and played for about 15 minutes. I arrived home at 2 pm with 75% of battery left. That is 25% in 4 hours.
I was on 3G, but with Mobile network off. BT, WIFI, GPS off. A few days ago, I tried running the Battery Calibration app, but seen no improvements so far. My phone is routed, 2.3.3 and has Android Revolution HD 5.0 RC1 ROM .
I expected the battery not to last for long, but this is ridiculous.
Help me, please!
I don't know if that will help, but I sometimes switch to 2G networks as HSDPA is using quite a lot the battery.
I have a DHD running 2.3.3, and it's definitely the mobile standby bit which is first in the battery use screen (33%). It was true before 2.3xx but now it's a bit more - annoying in other words.
I have to admit, having to switch to 2G networks is a bit of a pain in the *ss, so I'll check if juice defender give me some good results tomorrow and will post a feedback there.
Maybe try AR 5.1.6. + he recommended radio. It works wonders. the battery life is improved a lot...
malik
Juice Defender works very well - with basic settings I still have 35-40% of battery by 7pm.
furstrated with the battery life...
hey guys,
so this is my first post and all i've done up until now was to read... i'm afraid not real solution has come up.
i have:
Leedroid 3.1.2 with the recommended radio and i ran the script for Full Wipe 1.5 and cleared the battery stats, i did a fresh install and then didnt restore from backup - just installed everything from scratch. i hoped it would be ok, but when i woke up to check the current widget log, i saw that in the middle of the night he climbed to 150mA and stayed there draining about a 1% of battery in 3-4 minutes (!!!)
what can i do? 'where is my droid power' shows only HTC Sense at about 3.8%
please please help... thanks!

[Q] Battery issue : software or hardware ?

Hi everybody,
I'm facing with a big issue since a while with my battery life. The battery is draining very very fast without visible reason...
I've tried everything to spot the problem but I now wonder if it is not an hardware problem (died battery).
So how can I know if I have to replace my battery or not ?
Thanx
P.S : sorry for my english
There are lot of recommendations to improve your battery life, have you tried them? Explain more about the problem.
What I've tried :
- Calibrated my battery with all the the existent tutorials but it doesn't shut down at 0% (but not my biggest issue)
- Installed current widget and studied the current log which showed normal values (5mah in sleep) with few higher values
- Installed Better Battery Stats which didn't spot problem neither in ''Process" or "Partial Wakelocks"
My current set up :
- Latest Oxygen rom, with recommended kernel and radio
- Set cpu ==> wake up 245 - 768 (ondemand) / sleep mode : 245-384 (powersave or ondemand)
- Automatic luminosity
- I manually switch off 3G every time I turn off the screen
- Synchro : mail (every hour), facebook (every 4 hours)
In general, my battery last 8 hours even if I don't use it a lot...
Did u try to use a different Rom.
I had the same thing with Oxygen. Just went to ICS and now everything last even longer.
I also got stunning results with a MIUI rom, about 2 days of usage.
Yep, approximately the same results with every roms (aosp, sense and miui)
I would try CM7, anyway how old is your phone? and for how many time you 've been with this trouble?
I already tried cm7
I bought the Desire at his launch so about 2 years ago. I've been with this trouble since 4 month approximately...
I am more and more convinced that this is an hardware problem (my battery may be dead)
See in Battery Stats what exactly consumes . Screen is very hungry , even on automatic , after that comes phone calls , wi-fi , data transfers
Why opening a second thread with the same problem????????

I already checked several times and indeed the screen is very hungry (40 to 70%). Then, comes the wifi, cell standby, android OS, phone idle.
Nothing unusual regarding what I found in this forum...

Hi,
I bought Used Samsung Galaxy Note ii N7100 4 days ago ,which was around 11 months used in good condition .
When I bought phone first I flashed it to Prerooted JB 4.3 found on xda-developers threads only .for 1st full charge i got good battery backup .
After that day i am not able to get half of that backup , I didnt do anything extra , ive uninstalled evry new apps , then I did factory format . still nothing
I am using power saver mode , but nothing . getting very bad backup .on first day i got gud backup n after that i started to gave me worst , why is that ? I am charging my phone from travel adapter which came with phone . it takes around 3 -4 hrs to full charge , any help ?
Using stock charger will indeed takes 3-4 hours to fully charged the battery.
Download Battery Doctor from the store. When your battery is below 20% charge it until Battery Doctor says it's complete. Tap 'Optimize Now' button to let it kill the apps which running in the background.
Go to WiFi advance setting, disable location service that Google can use even your WiFi is off (new setting in 4.3).
Set your mobile network to either 2G or 3G only, don't use automatic. It seems your mobile network keep doing something, maybe the signal in your area is not good.

[FIX] Battery Drain,No Deep sleep, Android os wake-up all time

Tested on Lineage OS14.1, PurefusionNougat, CRDroid (not tried in other ROMs, it may work)
After trying a lot of modifications in two weeks regarding battery drain due to android os wakeup all time and little or no deepsleep, found a simple way to solve the issue.
1. Calibrate your battery according to post #9 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765663)( (Essential- it will fix almost all errors regarding battery)
2. A simple build.prop tweak wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=200
Add this line to system/buildprop using a root explorer with root permission " wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=200 " and reboot.
Screenshots after applying the mode
I edited the build.prop file via BuildProp Editor in the app store. So does i add that line in the beginning of the file or at the end?
do build.prop edits need a reboot to work ?
But yeah... WiFi has always been an issue on the HTC10 -.-

I'd recommend in this spot in my picture.
Battery Caliberation that also worked for me according to this xda post by @bikercr https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765663
Thanks to @bikercr
His Post
"This is directly from HTC tech support. To recalibrate battery and HTC charger when battery rapidly or erratically discharges, this procedure clears all battery stats, coordinates and normalizes charging.
Turn off Fast Boot in settings. Power off phone.
Plug phone into HTC charger and charge for two minutes or more
While charging, hold down volume up+volume down+power button and continue holding
Phone will turn on and off repeatedly every 15 seconds or so while continuing to hold all three buttons
Keep this going for 2 minutes, then release buttons when phone is ON
Now, let phone charge fully normally (with phone either on or off--doesn't matter) and battery level reporting, charging and battery life should be normalized.
Do this every month or so to keep power system healthy--even if everything seems fine. Also, don't leave phone on charger overnight for best long term battery life (according to HTC tech support: "The first thing they tell us." This is true even though charging is supposed to turn off when battery is at 100%)
NOTE: Another potential fix for battery/charging abnormalities if this procedure fails (esp. after an OTA update when corrupted files can remain stuck in device cache partition)--clear cache partition using this method: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ver...ted-phone.html"
New screenshot attached- Still 100% after 59 minutes (Note: without Gapps) Running crdroid from @andybones

This fix increase standby time (battery drain and no or little deepsleep due to android os awake all time)
This fix have little impact on SOT. SOT depends on many factors like Screen brightness, Surfing on 3g, 4g or wifi, playing Games, watching videos etc.
A Little Story
I bought this device through OLX and the seller selling it due to poor battery backup and warmer device even in standby. Due to interest in tweaking and modding from my first android device(Samsung spica 256mb RAM!) i bought it (with Android MM). Found the device doesn't enter in to deepsleep and android os is in the top of battery consuming. Two weeks of flashing differnet roms, Kernels, tweaking kernel through Kernel adiutor app, disabling and removing of apps , build prop edits etc. One day i noticed that my device goes to deepsleep almost suddenly after locking. Flashed the device again and do the tweaks one by one to know which tweak give me the result, and found the wifi scanning interval build prop tweak is the reason.
And it runs smoothly almost all time and some time it shows battery drain. So done some more googling and found this post in HTC One (M8) forum https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765663)(. It realy helps to completely overcome the Battery drainage issue. Then i tried almost all nougat roms and all of them are giving excellent battery backup.
Now my device have no deepsleep battery drain issue and now trying some bloat removed nougat stock.

Yes i tried today i take my phone away from charger 6:30am
i made some screens.,. will upload later
first of all, it was defintly better than last 4-6 weeks...
battery juice goes down from 100-0% not like 100 to 98 to 86 to 80 to 52... u know that % jumping around, reboot between 19 and 23% and so on...
but i have had a screen on time of about max 2 hours and my battery was down after 8~9hours... -10%battery per hour in power saver mode with lowest brightness
heere my results :
6:25 100%
74% after 2h30m with screen on 21 min
45% after 6 hours with 52min screen on
12% after 9 hours with 1h16 screen on
3% after 10h15min with 1h18m screen on
after the 10 hours i have had battery usage:
40% Mobile Network Standby
29% Apps
15% System
6% Phone inactive
it was defintly better than before but i have had also the battery draining... btw im on lees r143 with cleanslate kernel....
i install elementalX Kernel with a bit of uc and deactivate some stuff i dont need i will test it tomorrow and report....
maybe we find a solution together....

40% Mobile network standby is due to low network coverage and network use more battery to establish a good connection.

on my phone , wifi running is always 100% , I think that is "always scanning option enabled", so this option is draining my battery?
or
which I sacrifice doing your method to my phone?

wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=200 if you switch on the wifi always scan mode, then wifi trying to search for available networks all time, if you add these lines to buildprop it pause 200 seconds between scans and it help to reduce battery consumption, drawback - time for find a new wifi hotspot may increase.
