NFC on Sony Headphones and Speakers - NFC Hacking

According to this article, Sony is looking to make a big push for NFC enabled products and should have the largest portfolio of such products by year end:
http://www.sony.com.au/pressrelease/asset/550842/section/consumerproductspressreleases
What I don't understand is, what exactly is the advantage to have NFC enabled for products such as headphones and and speakers? The article mentions something about pairing bluetooth using NFC with one touch - is that all it is good for?
So from my understanding the connection to play music between my phone and the speaker will still be using bluetooth, what NFC enables me to do is to touch my phone to the speaker to pair it quickly, without having to mess around with the menu settings?
If the above feature is really the only thing that adds to the product, then I'm not sure what the big deal is, or is there some other use for NFC on these products that I'm not seeing?

Yes quickly pairing is the killer feature. You start music on your phone. Touch the speakers to switch them on and pair at same time. It is all about convenience

following step will show you how fast and practical is
- connect headset, earphones, any speak through jack connection into SBH20 device
- power on SBH20
- enable NFC on your phone
- put your SBH20 near into NFC area of phone
- both devices are paired
- now you can listen music through audio player app
beside with smart connect, you can make event for it
- connecting SBH20, choose anything you want to do e.g launching and playing playlist from audio player
- disconnecting SBH20, choose anything you wan to do e.g disabling bluetooth if you do need it further

I see... In effect I've done the same thing by sticking an NFC sticker on my Bluetooth speaker and programming it to toggle Bluetooth and start/stop my playlist. Just missing the part to automatically turn on the speaker.

how do I stream audio to my Jabra Stone?

Having trouble trying to figure out how to stream music to my Jabra Stone bluetooth headset. Any suggestions? Also having problems with my audio dropping in an out during a phone call; looks like the headset will disconnect in the middle of a conversation and then randomly re-connect again. Rooted running Myn RLS5.
Thanks.
For the streaming: To my knowledge, unless the headset declares to your phone that it has BT A2DP profile (aka, headphones/stereo audio), it won't work for anything other than voice commands and calls (aka, Handsfree or Headset profile).
Disconnecting: Put your phone on the same side of your body as the headset. If you're outside, it'll probably cut in and out due to ambient RF interfering. Believe it or not, your body has enough water in it to block the relatively weak BT radio.

Dual Mic. With Noise BlackoutTM Extreme
Touch volume control & Ergonomic Design
MultiuseTM - connect to two devices at the same time

It streamed music fine to my previous iPhone but not finding an easy way to stream music to it via the EVO. Navigation does work thru the headset if I have it connected but that's it.

When I look under bluetooth settings/bluetooth devices it shows:
Jabra STONE
Connected to phone and media audio
surprisingly....its now working at least using powerAMP, I'll try a few more apps such as Pandora and Youtube...only thing I did is re-charge the headset.

Odd. Might be that the Sense music player just doesn't like it for some reason. I have had zero issues with A2DP-capable devices on CM6 or 7.

Galaxy Nexus Car Setups

Just created this thread to find out what kind of car setups do you guys have with your Galaxy Nexus?
I just created mine using NFC, BT and Tasker to send all music and calls to car stereo when I enter the car, read out sms while driving, turn up backlight during daytime etc and then go back to previous state when I exit.
Details here: My Android NFC BT Car Audio Setup
What have you done to pimp up your car with your beloved GN?
I have a 3.5mm audio in jack for aux, I purchased a XtremeMac InCharge BT for wireless music. No special "read text aloud" apps or anything, I just try not to text in the car.

I have a Parrot MKI9200. I get in the car, it connects and I drive off. No point in turning BT off (very low power in standby) and you can do the other stuff with a BT on-connect event in Tasker. Don't generally bother, TBH. Lazy, me

Interesting. Right now I just keep Bluetooth on always, and then manually open the Pandora app (for music) when I'm in the car (built-in BT stereo). Leaving the car, it turns off automatically. Eventually I'm going to set up Delayed Lock to turn off lock screen while connected to BT.

I wanted to go that route too earlier but I connect to other BT devices as well through the day . Hope Tasker adds rules for specific devices soon.

Do try out tasker along with secure settings plugin. You will pay just a little bit more but acquire this and lot more functionality.
I'm using a Kinivo BTC8 bluetooth to fm
With the OEM car dock.
NFC key-chain and NFC Task Launcher to change my settings
Works great for music, calls, navigation, etc

Doesn't Tasker already do this? When I select a context for "Bluetooth Connected," it opens a dialog where I can choose the name or address of the Bluetooth advice from a list of devices I've paired with. I choose to pair with my Parrot device, and it's always worked for me.
I should admit that I very rarely pair with any other device, so I might not notice whether Tasker is only responding to the fact of the Bluetooth connection, rather than the specific device. But if that's the case, why provide an option for you to select the specific device?

Ah thanks for letting me know about this. I had tried this very long back when Tasker had just been released and didn't think of seeing again if it had been changed. Will try this.

You mean like any bluetooth stereo headphones? I'm pretty certain no wired headset will do this because the headphone jack doesn't support it.
There are quite a few standalone bluetooth stereo receivers around that you can plug generic headphones or a stereo line-out into though. I prefer the Jabra BT-3030 'dogtag' receivers, but there are plenty of others around. Just do a search on Froogle, Buy.com or any other big electronics site and you'll find them. The only real difference between them all is battery life and sound quality, they all have media player controls using standard Bluetooth profiles and they all include a condenser mic built-in.
No, I was talking about a button on the wired headphone, like the Galaxy S, to skip track, answer call, those sort of things.
From what LG answered me, it's not possible...
Downer there :|
Finaly found a spare pair of headphones from a Galaxy, with the button for the media controller.
Turns out, it works!
Long press opens voice control,
short press starts media player
two short press skips the track when playing.
There must be a standard for Android, I'll try to find the list tomorow and test it out, but anyway, good thing it works.
Anyway, good things it works! I'm running a lot, long distance, and it'll screw up any bluetooth, even S-10 (my current pair had some issue but cleaned up after drying in rice), so the good ol' button hearphones with the media controller is the best for me!
I've ordered a "seperate" microphone with a button and the input, I'll test and let you know!
I just bought some a-JAYS One+ for about 60$ The remote works with the Optimus G and most android phones.
The remote lets you:
Skip tracks
FF / Rwind
Play / Pause
Volume up / Down
Pick up calls
The sound quality is actually very good especially for bass junkies like myself. Not to mention the sleek swedish design.
I absolutely recommend them to anyone out there.
Cheers!

Hello,
Using the application "Jays Headset Control" (Play Store) we get the same result with the original headphones lg ^^
And you can change the button action in Advanced Mode...

it is not a Android feature, it is just the the extra rim on the 3.5 headphone minijack that adds controls to it. and Android have adapted it. like micro USB for charging and connecting.
open standards are always to prefer

Well, I tried with my old Nokia N95 headset which has play, forward, volume, etc. And it did not work as expected, some buttons work as a single button headset. Also bought a Samsung headset (could not find LG headsets) with a button and volume control and the volume control does not work, the volume up key replicates the button.
So it is not that standard.
Or is there an app to activate the volume and multimedia buttons on those headsets?

NFC tag with BT speaker

so as those of you watching ces coverage might have seen a few manufacturers are using nfc in their bluetooth speakers to link them up to phones tablets etc.
NFC-enabled Bluetooth accessories
So why not do this with existing bt speakers by using a tag?
So at the moment I've got a tag on my speakers that will enable bluetooth so that the phone (n4) connects to the speaker (they have previously been paired) and phone and media audio gets piped to the speaker (speaker also has hands free function Gear4)
So what I'd like to be able to do is
1. tap the tag while the speaker is in pairing mode.
2. have the device turn on bluetooth
3. search and pair with the speaker
4. output media (but not phone) audio to the speaker
is this even possible? how would i go about it? I've been using NFC Task Launcher but don't seem to be able to mange to do it within this app.
cheers in advance

There is a specific NDEF Message containing the MAC of the BT device that you can write to pair. However this precludes using NFC Task Launcher or other apps to perform other actions. This is only supported in JellyBean and up from an Android side.

Sony Android 4.0 supports this too.
If you a tag with the special NDEF tag it will do everything you want. I think news version of TagWriter can do this. If phone is routed to the external BT device depends if the bt speaker support headset or not
Here's a video review/demo of an app I use called BT Tag Writer: http://youtu.be/u1z6-pa_1Wc
Just have the andytags nfc sticker on my BT media receiver. When I tap it, it turns on my BT on my phone and then automatically connects to the media receiver.

Thanks for this. Have now upgraded my Phillips Fidelio dock to NFC tap-to-pair! Goodbye horrible Phillips app!
Also, this works just fine with Samsung TecTiles.

[Q] Possibly A Tasker Question

Hello All,
I'm not sure how to have searched for what I'd like to accomplish for lack of "proper" wording?
But, I have the Jabar Free way with two phones. I'd like when my Galaxy Nexus connects that it would play a tone such as a"notification" sound for a text.
If I buy tasker, would I be able to set up a task that when Bluetooth successfully connects to my device, then prompt sound x to play over speaker to let me know it has connected without having to look at the phone and see?
Or is there a simpler way to get a sound alert to play for what I think would be called: Bluetooth Connection Audio Confirmation ?
Yes you can do this with tasker. You can set up a task to run on connection to a specific bluetooth connection and play any sound you like and also pick which sound stream to play it through (speaker, bluetooth audio, etc.) You can also set it to play a sound on disconnect if you wish.
I use tasker to auto launch car dock mode and pandora when connected to my car bluetooth system. Works pretty well.

Here's a website with almost all possible Tasker tutorials. http://www.pocketables.com/2013/03/overview-of-pocketables-tasker-articles.html
Also ask a question there and there's a 99% chance you will get the reply within the day. :good:
