Hi one V user.
Can i know what is the pros and cons of this phone?
I should buy this phone or incredible s?

Very good camera, good roms, cool guys here  cons : sometimes it bricks easily, not updated by HTC, probably s off wich will force you to flash kernel via fastboot every time. All I can say is that I love my phone

You will need to unlock bootloader and flash custom recovery, totally void the warranty.
It's hard to decide which one is better. One V got much better screen quality(It should be a low-grade IPS), much better camera though only with 5M pixel and 4GB rom. However, incredible S gives you 768MB ram(One V only 512MB), replaceable battery but with only 1.5GB rom(One V got 4GB). If you always play games, more ram and battery will be better. One V is more preferable for normal use without gaming.

You can see the One V LCD is superior over incredible S. For the LCD, the One V 3.7" IPS like panel indeed beat my old SE Arc S 4.3" TN panel. I can read the text on One V more easier than on a suck 4.3" screen. I think incredible S is using 4" TN panel only.

[Q]Is it worth buying Desire now?

Ok, so, i sold my SGS because it was boring and i wanted to buy Desire because it has a LOT of custom ROMs and it has Sense UI.
What are the main disadvantages of this phone.
Or i should save some more money for DHD?
Desire cost 220€ and DHD 330€...
What should i do?
Main disadvantages is definitely low memory(512mb) and lack of real multitouch.
It's still a great phone when taking the price into the equation.

Real multitouch? Can you explain it? I dont understand...
EDIT: oh, i saw a video on a youtube...this sucks :S
You may as well get the Desire S really.
Sent from CM7
Custom ROMs with Data2SD or A2SD+ will solve the memory problem of the Desire.
The DHD, in my opinion, is an inferior product in that it doesn't offer much more than the Desire does, and even has a smaller battery while sporting a larger LCD display.
You should just get the Desire S, IMHO.
for me.. desire still relevant and worth to buy since the new phone still using single core processor. a lot of customization is make desire very useful in the future because of the development of desire custom rom is still in progress.
Desire is almost 2 years old now. Its great but check newer Desire S.

I think it released in 2010.
Personally, I love the Desire line. Even the basic provides just about everything you need. Completely customized if you wish to root and flash ROMS. Not to mention, it is probably still one of the top selling phones.
As with processor, who needs dual core? Hardly any apps for it. If you need more speed, you can overclock it. (like me)
As with memory, as previously stated, when you customize it, you can partition and move apps to the SD card.
If you can get it for a good price, I'd go for it. In fact, I'm thinking of getting another for my wife. Besides, the basic design for HTC hasn't changed much.
Not to mention, Desire forums have the best support.
Choose wisely!

[Q] Opinions on the Desire

Hey guys, I'm looking forward on moving to a phone with a bigger screen and the Desire (Telus version aka a8182 since the 3G is compatible with the Argentinian band) is the best I can afford ATM.
I would like to know your opinions on the phone and the new SLCD screens that replaced the AMOLED featured on the first series of the Desire. Would you recommend it? Is there any problems I should be aware of- besides the multitouch "bug"?
Go for it mate. I just bought it a month ago and I have to say this is the best device i have ever had ( was symbian nokia fanatic before N5800 lol). Believe me its a beautiful device with best hardware out there.
The only device within reasonable distance price wise and feature wise is Desire S, so if u can get that go for that or else the classic desire is a very good device.
Desire is a great phone with thousand of great ROMs.

Well I'd love to get the Desire S but unafortunately it only comes with european 3G bands (900/2100) and where I live we use the same bands as AT&T.
I know that the last official update that the Desire was Froyo and there is no GB update yet. I belive this is the right place to ask this. Is there any fast & stable GB ROM with Sense out already?

Thats the beauty thing about all the custom roms, they all have some kind of A2SD option. With so many developers you have so many options (Sense, no-Sense, Froyo, GB). Just get a decent sd card and you will be happy. My only complaint really is the purple colour
Thank you all for your ansers. Do you all like hardware buttons on the Desire over the capacitive ones on the Aria/N1? I'm aware that capacitives are very easy to "press" when you're using the phone and that kinda sucks but they look way better IMO. Not that image matters that much but hardware buttons feels a bit 2 years ago.

i'm upgrading to the Sensation next and am dreading not having hardware buttons
but either way, whatever you have, you DO get used to it
I have had my desire for just on a year now & i would recomend them to anyone.
Also has the advantage of being easily rooted & a large dev base.

Depends on wether you like buttons or capacitive ones... I am more than satisfied with my Desire especially since the Official Gingerbread is on the horizon... If you can afford it, go get it... you wont regret it in the end... believe me
Most phones with capacitive buttons tend to turn the backlight off too soon then you can't find the button in dim light. You can always feel the hardware buttons on the desire even in pitch black.
I can't think of a phone I would replace my desire with at the moment
I have a desire for almost a year with no problem at all, display is good for every day stuff, like watching job's email, surfing the internet etc... buy it defo
I've only had mine for 3 weeks and chose it over anything else at an HTC store. I like the Real buttons, great for GBA emulation. Really is just a great device with a load of options from here.
i've had the desire for a year now. i dont know how it is for other android phones but i love how theres so many tools to root and customize the phone. the desire never feels old with so much active development going on in terms of roms. i plan to keep my phone for another year or two and by then i hope they actually come out with something thats worth upgrading for. no regrets on buying it.
i know theres phones with more memory or cpu speed but honestly theres really nothing that i've seen so far that has made my phone feel slow in any way. aside from 3d games maybe but i dont see the point of playing them on my phone when all it does it drain your battery like crazy and there are way better things to play on the pc.
Is the Desire easy to root? I own an Aria and it was very easy to root. I'm afraid that if I get the Desire a8182 it will come with the lastest Hboot and I may have to downgrade it and it sound like something very hard to do since I don't understand much of programming. I'm also not sure what S-Off means. It is always S-On on the aria since it can't the turned off yet but that's all I know. There's also a lot of radios. How can I know which one is better for my location and if they're compatible with the local carriers?

very! you don't need to be s-off to install roms (just look for A2SD+ roms instead of CM7 hboot roms), and you won't need to flash a radio unless you have a reason to\
i used this guide to root, and then install CyanogenMod...now i'm flashing all over the place just for kicks

[Q] Do you recommend buying Desire ?!

Hi all
Do you recommend buying Desire ?!
I tried Android at Wildfire and found it so good and amazing so i sold it and want to get a new more powerful device
It costs around 420~500 USD in my country - Egypt and the devices in that range is New Galaxy Ace or used Galaxy S and i don't like both
already compared it to Desire S and couldn't find any huge different which will cost me more 100 USD !!!
so do you recommend buying HTC Desire ? and is it true it will updated to New Sense same one in Desire S ???!!!
Desire S has the double of space (1.1 GB internal memory) compared to the normal Desire
Desire will never get sense 3.0
But if u can spend a bit more or found a cheap offer, i'll go for the samsung galaxy s 2, once buyed it u can stay with it for 2-3 years without need to change phone (the same is not true for the desire s in this moment, because it's already "old")
Just my opinion if you going to buy a new phone, anyway i will stay with an other year or more with my desire (got it in april 2010) before buy an other top phone, this is my personal philosophy
I just recently bought a used Desire for about $200 CAD and I love it.
My voice plan with Rogers comes to like 22$ and I have no desire to add a $25 data plan to get $50/month plan to get a phone subsidized from them.
I just the App2SD with a 1GB ext4 partition on my SD card to get around the limited space the phone has.

Galaxy S II will cost me about 800$ and this is too much for phone , buying i7+6GB laptop will be better idea
i think that i already saw costume roms for Desire with sense 3 and circle lock screen or i am wrong ??!!
and i am still noob at Android but i thing with root i can add more extra space for phone to install apps to it exactly like installing them to phone memory and it's so easy to get 8 or 16 GB SD Card ???
and as you said Desire S seems to be old and same as Desire so i think spending more money on it will not be a good idea
What about Desire HD , If i managed to get it with good deal do you recommend it ?
will it be updated to new Sense the one in Sensation officially or also will be custom rom ?

DHD is a fair bit better and still has some decent rom support. It will probably get the sense update, so if you can't really find a newer phone i'd say yeah, go for it.
i'm also pretty much new with android and htc so let me give you some n00b insight...
i've owned Desire for 3 months and i got used to it by now. it can give you both joy and anger. it depends on how you use it. if you live it on stock ROM it'll work smooth and you can find tips and tricks how to make it somewhat better without rooting and flashing roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653310
if you decide to root and flash custom ROMs then you can get even better device with many tweaks already built-in new software. for example you can flash Desire HD rom and therefore don't have to actually buy DHD (hardware is not that much different IMHO). now i'm running InsertCoin Gingerbread based rom which hasn't even been released for Desire yet, with many Sense 3.0 goodies which probably won't be officially included in GB update at all. as a downside, these roms can have some bugs, but are overall better than stock. just take a look into some rom development topics...
Desire has it's flaws but overall i'm waaay satisfied... although it's now an old rag D) it still kicks many "smartphone" butts out there. i came from nokia x6 and now i wonder why did i go there in a first place...
anyway, i think you can't go wrong with it. you can of course buy DHD for somewhat better hardware or spare some more money for sensation, but if you're unviling to do so, Desire is still great choice...just my 2 cents!! cheers, i hope this helps a bit!

The problem is getting SGSII or Sensation that thier prices are too high now and sooner their prices will be lower than now so i don't think it's good idea to get 2 months old phone right now ,,,
i liked HTC Sense a lot so i am choosing from HTC not Samsung also HTC have bigger support from developers than Samsung as i can see
but i read that it's sound is low and LCD Screen not that good ,, is this true ?

I will ditch my N8 for Android/HTC ,,, I really loved Android and HTC from using Wildfire for 10 days only !!!
mmmmm , DHD Roms working on Desire ?? very good and new info for me...
and i am agree with you that there is no much difference at specification just bigger screen and camera but ditching 12MP Cam - the best i ever used - means that i don't care that much for it
so your are happy with desire and it's worth it's money,,, is there any news about official update from HTC ???
and what is DHD latest official version right now ??
Comparing DHD to Incredible S latest HTC one core device they are the same !!! and i think that DHD is even better !!!

yeah, x6 had much better camera, and camera is my only problem with desire. but the phone (any phone) is never meant to be a substitute for real camera..so no real prob here....
DHD rom for desire is actually a port, so desire can run it. it's not THE rom from DHD. with that said, you can put virtually any rom into desire but with more or less tweaking to the point where hardware eventually becomes incapable of running much newer rom. therefore sense 3.0 stuff are greatly tweaked for desire to be able to run it. it's not like the real thing but pretty much close. and it's getting better every day... modders here are the wizards, i tell you...
so yeah, i'm happy with desire, didn't regret spending the money on it at all!
as for the official update from HTC, there were many contradictory statements, and the final one is that there WILL be gingerbread update but no word on sense update. you can find it in desire-general section.
I'm using Desire since April 2010, so it's more than a year now. I was very excited about the whole Android thing. And still am. But the phone itself has some big issues. First of all is the huge lack of internal memory. I can't even install the most necessary apps. Secondly it's the overheating problem. My Desire was one of the first Amoled batches and it had issues with the SOC. While using processor demanding apps like navigation, flash playback etc. It was constantly rebooting. Had to repair it. For 3 times. Then it's the speaker and battery. They both are weak. After my previous E61 Desiree's speaker really sucks. Camera is decent too. But in overall I still like, though I would really consider buying SGS back then. Now I'll wait for another year or so. Btw I'm now using MIUI ROM and it gave a second breath to Desire. Good luck with buying!

[Q] I went from an x2 to the Dinc2. Was this wise?

Hi gang,
I am a very unsatisfied motorola x2 owner who after three handsets was offered any 3g device vzw offers.
I looked into it and decided against the droid 3 (motorola, and no tbanks) and picked up the incredible 2...
I based this off the unlocked bootloader, reasoning that it will definitely get ICS even if in the form of cm9, and that the screen may be lower resolution but color was better.. Also more ram less cpu was a hard choice but I've seen cm7 quadrant scores of 2100 on the web which my x2 doesn't really even beat!
So my questions:
If I unlock the bootloader and need to return the phone can I get it back to factory like with motorola and iphone so it can be warranty exchanged?
If not I will need to get a separate 3rd party warranty right?
Is vzw going to go so far to check a bootloader if the os is back to their bloated stock state upon powering up?
Also how BAD is the 1450 battery?
I've heard miui and cm7 increase battery life. Is it usable over a day of random browsing and email with moderate call usage?
I get the phone tomorrow. As a photo enthusiast I am also stoked on the camera. My x2 camera is 100% terrible.
Thanks all. Looking forward to a phone that works. Loved my iphone and my x2 has me so turned off of android but the Inc2 seems better from reviews.

Downgrade and s-off is much wiser than unlocking. This is the case since once you unlock, its on record, and they know you're unlocked. Now, if you downgrade and s-off, then you can return to stock and have no issues as far as them knowing you unlocked.
Another thing is battery, I'm running a sense 3.5 ROM which is pretty demanding, and I'm easily lasting all day. Don't worry about that part.

Wow, ok where to start?
I think you made a good choice based on lots of people saying that the inc2 is still the best 3g phone verizon offers.
It's very easy to modify and use different ROMs, Moto didn't do too well with the x2 and the tegra 2. Other tegra 2 devices are a lot better than the x2.
Even though the resolution might be higher than the inc 2 the pentile screen on that phone is horrible.
It's very easy to return the phone back to stock which is what you'd want to do if you ever have to return it to Verizon or even 3rd party insurance companies.
The battery? Amazing, with custom settings i've gotten well over a day on a single charge just using the phone moderately. It will definitely hold up.
The camera is decent but as a photo enthusiast you should know that an actual camera is going to be better than any camera phone.

Okay I haven't read any guides yet aside from the htc site for unlock which sounds like a legit factory process which you guys reinforce it is... So the phone is registered that way and a simple check by vzw cross reference if you may, would show it.
Wasn't aware downgrading would accomplish the same thing.
I used a toolkit to s-off my wives htc Inspired to put it on tmobile so I assume this is the same process. Or very similar and it is permanent I would assume?
So since cm7 is on 2.3.7 and eventually cm9 is 4.x.x the s-off just allows root and clockwork recovery that allows you to flash cm7 right?
Also camera wise... Just want a decent hdr shooter. I have a dslr but I have low light probs with the x2. In short its junk.

By downgrading and achieving s-off, there's no extra steps to having to flash a kernel or radio and such, its much better to downgrade and s-off vs unlock via htcdev.com.

Let me add my vote for the advice listed above. I chose the Inc2 over the X2 when I upgraded last Nov and I'm a happy camper. I used the downgrade method to S-Off and root and it worked flawlessly.
The Inc2 has a very active development community so you're in a good place here, although I'm currently running a debloated stock-based Sense 2.1 rom (everything works, which I couldn't say about the CM7-based ROM for my previous phone). But in any event, you have lots of choices here.
And regarding battery, running the stock kernel and my personally-debloated version of AndyBONESTOCK, I easily get 2 days with Exchange email + Gmail, some web cruising, FB, some map checking and such. Don't worry about the battery =)
i s-offed mine back in july when root first became available (thanks to alpharev ) and my gfs using the downgrade tool posted by attn1 it was pretty easy and if you have any trouble theres an irc you can go to where someone can help you if you have trouble. i unlocked a moto droid for one of the guys i worked with and it was a PITA! i recall seeing a quadscore for one of newts roms that was insane. these little guys are pretty powerful.
not to mention we're a kickass community welcome aboard
Thanks everyone.
I've since hit up Youtube and learned a lot about revolution.io and the like.
It's about permanent s-off I see... But that can be undone by software if necessary to return?
I may just take advantage of a return un June before my 1 year hardware ends in July so as to get a freshly remanufactueed device.
I'll have to find the links for the downgrade package as the revolution.io site has what I need for the actual unlock.
I've wanted to try cm7 for a very very long time. Looking forward to it.
Thx again all!

To answer most questions as far as rooting and unrooting, look up nat3mil on YouTube, and he's got downgrade, s-off, and return to stock.

Nice. Lol I want an extended battery.
If you perm root with revolutionary you can easily roll back to stock no problem and no one would know. It's pretty easy too. I've done it many times for warrenty purposes using other peoples phones

lmao. amazingly enough, when I went to try and put my 8gb card from my x2 in, there was a 16gb card inside the phone.
like wtf?
Extended batt?
Extra 16 gig card?
I guess getting so mad about things and calling the "loyalty" department and talking about how no one at verizon could help me out of my x2 must have helped... a lot.
Lol hate to be a buzz kill but the 16 gig comes with the phone.. the other two definitely was a hook up

Well yes when brand new the incredible 2 does come with 16gb sd card but certified like new replacements are not supposed to, which im positive thats what he got. Sorry i am not necessarily new here, just never posted before. I myself have been through 2 droid x's, 2 droid x2's, and 3 droid 3's in the past 10 months(all certified like new replacements that had problems) so i decided to leave motorola behind and they sent me an incredible 2 as a replacement that came with a regular battery cover, and they shipped me an extended battery and cover seperately. Well i am now on my third incredible 2, finally problem free, and the third one did come with a 16gb card as well but first 2 did not! So take it as a bonus from verizon probably saying how sorry they are! I am finally happy with an awesome phone that works with no software or hardware problems. Successfully rooted and s-off on updated and rerooted 2.3.4 running liquid smooth 3.2 tweaked by me and overclocked to 1.5ghz.

Considering an Xperia S/SL

Hello,
I'm considering a new phone and have been looking at the Xperia S/SL. I like the feel of the devices and the design. I think having a physical camera button is great! If you have an S/SL, what do you like most about it? What do you like the least? Seems other than 2 additional colors and a bump in CPU speed, the SL is the same as the S. Is that so? Most everything I've seen in terms of customization (new ROMs, etc) talk about the S and not the SL. Can I safely assume that the S and SL are synonymous with regards to rooting, ROMs, etc.?
Thanks,
cesman
Well I must say the XS is awesome, i mena the camera is great (except some autofocus issues, however you can get another app for that) the screen is gorgeous, flaws ... must I say non removeable battery, lacking micro sd port (however 32 gb I think It's fair enough)
I should go for the S if you want to unlock your bootloader
You can flash a custom kernel to have 1.7GHz like SL, no other main difference between S and SL.
The camera is good, and the device runs smooth with some tweaks for custom looks it's the same as other devices, you can always customize Android
Non removable battery and no micro-sd slot doesn't bother me, there is a key reset combo and I don't need more then 32GB
Battery life isn't superb, but also not really bad, you can easily get one day or more. Unless you are a very heavy user or have a lot of apps that sync data

just like my phone have lots of apps that need sync , and thats why i bought smartphone , so it can sync automatically and not to do it manually.
For the price you really can't go wrong, you get a stunning 300+ PPI 720p HD screen, a 12mp Camera and a decent dual core.
It's got a gorgeous UI but since it's an android you're probably going to be skinning it anyways. It feels weighty and it's sturdy, it doesn't feel cheap at all and you feel like you're holding a sturdy phone. Build quality is good, I've dropped it countless times and it's still yet to break for me.
You can unlock the bootloader officially which is good and it really isn't all that hard to root the device and install roms on it.
The downsides I'd say is the non-removable battery which for is a concern and a problem considering the battery isn't all the impressive, It lasts me from 8am in the morning to about 3-4am with low/moderate usage.
32gb for most people should be more than enough.
Again, for the price it's an amazing phone; it ain't the best phone though obviously but if you wanted a good phone you'd be looking at your Galaxy S3s or waiting for the Xperia Z

Interesting choice of adjectives as some would consider "amazing" better than "good". I held the Z in my hand at CES and didn't care for the feel. The ZL has a much better hand feel. If anything, that is the phone I'd wait for... As long as I can get it unlocked. I'm more attached to the Xperia line than the Galaxy... Although it is nice that Galaxy has official CM releases up to the current M1.

Does this mean that the SL's bootloader can't be unlocked?
I'm planning to buy a XS/XSL too, and i can get the SL for a lower price

I've search on here and no one has come right out and said they have unlocked the XSL's bootloader. Sony's own site doesn't show it as a supported model. Where can you get it for less?!

It can also be unlocked but I thought the S would be cheaper then the SL
Just buy the cheapest one, XS roms also work on SL and vice versa
any body make a custom rom for Xperia SL (Real SL)
becuase all of custom rom are Xperia S
I guess all Roms for Xperia s will be compatible with the sl. Not sure though.

Kernels are compatible too, right? I really don't matter if i end up turning the SL into an S, because, as i said before, i can get the SL for a lower price
If for some reason i would like to go back to the stock rom, could i use one of the "stock roms for xperia s thread" that is at the development section or i would have to get the stock official rom for SL?

It'll be better to get an S!! because its tries and tested and u have a lot of ppl to hold u back!! SL is just picking up!
The S is exactly the same as the SL just the SL is overclocked from the factory. I have a SL, shoulda just bought the S and saved some money.
Is something wrong with the device
i want to know is there something wrong with the hardware or anything i really want to buy it but m confused.
