[Q] Did anyone try those impact resistant screen protectors? - Galaxy S III Accessories

Hello there
Did anyone here actually try one of those screen protectors that claim to be impact resistant? The reason I am asking is because a couple of days ago I accidentally hit my phone while sleeping and it fell on its screen (unfortunately the flip wasn't closed, as in the screen had nothing above it, although I don't think it would have made much difference) and the LCD broke from the inside and basically died. I replaced it at Samsung Service Center and it cost me an arm and a leg so I am searching for accessories that can protect the screen. I don't want to invest in an Otterbox cover or something as I'd like to keep the flip cover which is awesome, which is why the impact resistant screen protector seems like a viable option IF it actually does what it claims. I Googled it and I found a lot of videos showing how it works but then again I don't really trust most of the videos I've watched as there is a lot of controversy to them.
I was buying a regular screen protector yesterday and the guy told me about those impact resistant ones (very expensive to say the least) but I didn't want to go for it before I ask and research.
Thanks for your time.

Sgp oleophobic = FAIL!!!

I returned my ZAGG within the 45 day period to get this thinking it would not have the orange peel (which it doesn't) and thought the anti fingerprint would be nice but this thing shows all fingerprints! And when you do get smudges.. Which is all the time.. It's nearly impossible to get them off! It just spreads the oil/fingerprints around..
So disappointed!

Yep, I took mine off about 30 minutes after putting it on. Hate it.
i am getting some screen protectors from diztronics. i hope they are the same as i got with my tpu. awesome dry screen protection.
They don't have the same guarantee that ZAGG does do they?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
probably not. but they're not as expensive either. nor are you paying for advertising. could be the same thing. never know these days.
go look around this forum. there are dozens of people, including myself with those skins. there is no orange peal and they do help with fingerprints.
you got a bad skin, or you got scammed because honestly, there are dozens of people here with this skin and no issues. including myself.

lol. i was just saying that diztronics screen protector is pretty good and it's a freebie with their tpu's. i ordered some more screen protectors for my nexus from them. i'm not a big fan of those phone shields. would rather run naked if i was going to do that and kind of feel ripped off for the price of them. tpu's, imo, off better protection, but i can see the value of a phone shield though. to each their own.
Try these if you're interested.

Make sure to use the make an offer and offer like $2.
I've used Zagg and hated the orange peel/rubbery texture. It was really good for finger prints though.
These have far less orange peel and less rubbery. I've tried several others and found this one to be the best compromise.
Are these wet or dry??
I have a diztronic that I totally forgot about... Might try it... But I was thinking about returning that case since I don't like/use it..

That's what I see on the page.
Why does everyone expect a screen protector to be the savior of common problems of a screen? If you're getting a crystal clear dry application screen protector, expect it to attract fingerprints regardless if it's oleophobic. The only way around this is to get an anti-glare/anti-fingerprint screen. Yes there is a trade off but it goes both ways.
Crystal clear - keeps the quality of the screen but smudges and attracts fingerprints like crazy.
Anti-glare - gives you a grainy display but gets rid of the fingerprints.

To use screen protector or not???

So I'm debating on whether or not I should use a screen protector on my S3. With the new gorilla glass is it necessary?
What are all of you doing??

I think it's personal preference I bought a screen protector and I am using mine. It depends how well you take care of your phone. Get a cheap one off of amazon or eBay and see if you like it
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
i take care of my phones so i will not be using a protector. I never have. I took my X2 to the extremes once i activated my s3 and it was difficult to actually scratch the screen.
hoping this holds up equally well. I did by a sleeve for the phone though.
At first I didn't plan on using one, but I did end up trying a wet apply protector and I'm liking it ok. The Gorilla glass seems pretty resilient, and there are videos on youtube of people taking keys, razors, knives etc to the screen with no scratches but the last thing you want is a scratched up display.
Come on guys, there has been threads about this

I have a My Touch 4G Slide. I hate the long name.
I have been using it for over a year now and it has a few very slight scratches. It has Gorilla Glass.
Now about the videos on YouTube: They all use metal that is not so sharp. I would like to see how the glass stands up to a single grain of sand, dirt or rock fragment.
I'm a mechanic and work in a rough environment. I get dirt and grease on it all the time but I don't purposely scratch it.
My 4G was a replacement for the G2 I had for almost a year before and did use a Zagg and it got dirty within a month and the free replacements for life cost $6 to ship them.
I'll have my S3 this week and don't plan to use a protector. I don't think that a screen protector can save it from a direct hit. Since the majority of the surface is non screen, I am considering a case to spread out the impact damage if I drop it, which is more likely to break the screen.
My opinion is non scientific and is from limited experience.
The Verizon guy installed one for me and its working fine. I wasn't gonna put one on but I do like it.

I think there are many debait about this, it's up to you, and as said many times gorilla glass is not future proof it will get scratched easily, forget about keys and coins, just get some sand and try it out.
There has been some discussion on this. There are also some threads about individual screen protectors. Look here.

Amzer shatterproof screen protector

I have been hearing a lot of cases when our Galaxy SIII's screen has shattered when dropped that too not from a height. Then i heard of AMZER's shatter proof series and i pre-ordered it 3 days ago. Now my case protector has arrived and it is the toughest screen protector i have ever used. I was so lucky that i bought it on time. It was dropped by a kid with face on and nothing happened. This one is really tough guys.
Check this http://www.amzer.com/Amzer-ShatterP...-for-Samsung-GALAXY-S-III-GT-I9300-P94905.htm
It's definitely scratch proof, but shatter proof?
Yes I agree with the OP - knocked my sgs3 off and it hit the corner of the table and then floor - screen first - i have cracked by display on the sensation in a similar situation - this time not even a scratch and this thing sticks right on! Solid stuff here - will post a review later on! must order it guys only 29 bucks!

If it doesn't suck completely after 2 weeks it is better.
i have the verizon protector on mine, which doesnt go all the way to the edge, but when mine cracked, it rounded it self off when it ran under the screen protector and turned around like "ohh can't go that way" lol https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/s720x720/386262_10151093476528557_832449593_n.jpg

I just noticed on amzer's site they posted a few videos - you got to see them to believe them - i will ask you guys to dump zagg hd - i have used it and it feels super uneven, can't play temple run with it on - this is as smooth as the glass itself!

Looks awesome, but for $29.99? I rather get the Spectre Glass screen protector for the same price.

Wasn't so impressed with the hammer or drill test BUT the brick test just baffles my mind. Hell, the corner of the brick even embedded itself into the damn thing and even tore n stayed stuck after peeling off the protector ? !

This is exactly what I've been looking for. I haven't been able to find a screen protector that fits with my diztronic tpu case. They always peel off at the corners.
I got my LGOG in November and after having no screen protector since then I still have 0 scratches. I'm just using a TPU case that is raised on the front so when I set it down or drop it the screen doesn't have any contact. I've even had the phone in pockets with change and keys on accident. With newer phones screen protectors aren't needed nearly as much as they used to be thanks to Corning Gorilla Glass and such.

Same here. I got a screen protector (zagg) immediately after purchasing mine in November. I've been too lazy to put it on. Still, no screen protector, just an otterbox case, and the screen is in perfect shape. I would like to rock my phone with no case, but the camera sticks out on the back.

What screen protector do you prefer zagg or ghost armour

I haven't heard of ghost armour, but I prefer spigen or realook. I have a zagg invisible shield on my N7, and it's awful. It feels tough.
You should put this in the Accessories forum.

neither- Xtreme Guard. Cheap if you get the right promo codes online and its strong.
I got the Spigen slim armor case and GLAS.tR screen protector this time around. Expensive for a screen protector, but this is a $650 phone after all. So much more luxurious than the plastic protectors... I don't think I could ever go back to one of those.

These aren't a bad option. I have use them since the Sensation with no complaints, only problem I ever had was with the Note 2's S-Pen leaving trails on the protector.
I personally buy the 10x $1.79 screenies and wet apply them. Come out great and it's not big deal to replace them.

first off i dont blame anyone for using a screen protector with the prices of some of these phones today.
but personally i stopped using screen protectors all together,it came to me one day as i was looking at my phone and seeing all the scratches on the screen protector,i was like why do i pay $25 for a screen protector so i dont get scratches on my screen and in reality all it does is make my view look scratched easier and never get to fully enjoy my shiny new screen.i understand that you can just keep replacing them and it can keep your screen looking new right up to the end of your contract but at that time it will not matter to me as i will be getting a new phone anyways and can care less about if it has any scratches when bestbuy gives me $8 of credit for the trade in lol.
also i must say these newer glasses they are using on there screens are impressive i stopped using screen protectors when i got my S3, and after using it for a few days shy of a year i still had 0 scratches but was always careful to not put it in my pocket with my keys and all that.i just got my S4 and plan to do the same with this one and from what i read this one has even better glass, while i dont think my sprint mogul would have lasted a week without screen protection back in the day these current phones really dont seem to need them.
but to put in my 2¢ i believe i was using screen protectors made by 3M, im sure they where not the best but they worked pretty good for about $15 each.

It's the first glass one I've ever tried, and I love it. I got it directly from Spigen at spigen.com. They have a lower-cost replacement plan in case you break it, so I thought it would be good to buy direct in case I ever need to use that.
The Glas.TR was $35 through Amazon IIRC, not a cheap screen protector, but easy enough application, and smooth as the "naked" screen
The generic tmobile screen protector is pretty good.
