Hey,
at first, I want to say that I am from germany and you shouldn't expect the best english from me...
There is a little problem with my Xperia S, I can't flash any kernel... When I try to flash with Flashtool, it allways says "FAILED (unknown status code)" or "FAILED (remote: Unrecognized command, bork!)". What is actually wrong with my device? I unlocked the bootloader mouths ago without any problem and installed CM 10, but now it takes to much battery and I wanted to flash something else. I tried to flash the kernel from P.A.C. and afterwards I tried the CM 10 again. I was able to flash the stock rom, but now I don't even have a recovery.. >.<
Can someone help me, please?
flash any custom ICS kernel with fastboot method, search the forum for fastboot.

Be carefull.... Some kernels with cm10 = soft brick.
With roms based on 4.0.4 Sony i try ICS Advanced Kernel
PAC V22 and leaked 197 came with kernel and work ok.
My english is bad too.. Sorry

Try flashing it to stock FTF of Xperia S http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599303
and install CWM Recovery, flash any kernel you want and clear cache and dalvic. You can now install any custom ROM.
My currently using ROM is XZXperiece 2 by Niaboc79.

Hey Guyz,
i unlocked by bootloader using fast boot method
then i rooted my phone using the same method and it was working fine.
Yesterday i installed CW rom and CWM autoinstaller , to reboot in recovery and installed a mod to bring reboot in Power Off menu options.. it intalled correctly.
But when i rebooted the phone, the sony ericcson logo appears again and again.. i.e it is stuck in boot loop.. m still able to enter in recovery but unable to boot my phone properly..
Please Help...
The First solution is to flash a stock firmware using flashtool.
But which Kernel and which Rom have you tried to flash?

k.. i'l try to flash 4.0.a.283 using fastboot..
BTW
I am noob.. Dont know anything about anything about kernel.. all i did was install Clock work rom.. When i opened it, it said, "you need to install CWM". So i installled CWM autoinstaller...
Now with everything installed, i booted into recovery and installed a mod ( which brings the option to reboot in Power Off menu). It installed correctly... Then i clicked on reboot system now.. That is when i realized that m stuck in boot loop..

You must first check the compatibilty of "reboot mod" with the firmware version you use.
Just check the firmware you have in your phone and make sure it matches with the firmware on which the mod is based.
@wayne
I have flashed my phone using fastboot method just like i did it when i was rooting my phone. And Thank GOD it is working fine now..
@KingWecked,
M still trying to figure out, where did i go wrong at the first place...
was it the CWM auto installer ??
or was it the Reboot mod ?? coz i downloaded the mod for xperia arc only..
Do we need to change that kernel thing after rooting ??
I don't know what the hell is a kernel; and after rooting i haven't done anything with my kernel. Should i ???
A kernel is the base of what Android runs

Before you install any mod,you must first check the firmware version you are using. You can find it out from Settings-->About Phone-->Build Number.
It contains the firmware version on which your phone is running Ex:4.0.a.283
.283 is the old version firmware and most of the mods dont work on this firmware. You must flash the latest firmware .42 in order to support the majority of the mods and themes available in this forum
And a kernel is very complicated thing.you must not mess with it unless you know what you are doing.Manipulating your kernel might brick your phone permanently. And if you want to know much further about kernels then search the forum and you must find loads of threads explaining about kernels and stuff related with it
@ KingWickedd
are u sure .283 is an old firmware
Coz initially i had "unrooted .62"
For rooting purpose i downloaded this firmware..
So can U please tell me where can i get " rooted 0.42 firmware" where i can start installing all mods right away..
Note: Multiupload links are not working ... Any other links ????

Yes I am sure its the old version where as .42/.62/.69 are the latest firmware versions. They have almost everything in common and they differ based on the regions they are released in.
For rooted .42 firmware..follow this link below..

hello everybody
My Friend gave me his phone as mine "arc s" to root and install new rom
the rooting succeeded then I installed CWM using "SE Extreme Tweak Installer" and it worked well
then I flashed the kernel to "KTG anzu Kernel" and the flashing was OK ..... then I forwarded to install the rom
I intended to install "Xperia Ultimate HD 2.0" but when I chose "install zip from sdcard" it sent error "couldn't mount sdcard" !!!!!
so I flashed the next supported kernel "Advanced stock-4.1.B.0.587-boot_587" also the same error !!!!
Note : I'm using on my phone "Xperia Ultimate HD 2.0" but no errors happened with me like this at all
after that I re-flashed the phone with "Sony_officially_LT18_4.1.A.0.562_NCB.ftf" to recover the original kernel and re-install CWM using SE EXtreme
and installed the rom using it then I flash the supported kernel but the phone freezes after Sony logo
I don't know what happened and the wrong in my job !!!!!
the most thing caught the eye is this : why CWM installed using SE Extreme could mount the scdard normally but after flashing the kernel couldn't mount ???
may any one help me please
thanks

You cant use a stock rom with a custom kernel...
If i am not wrong you are now having .562 rom with some kernel which is not stock kernel.
Flash .562 in flashtool and reboot, it will work...
Have you unlocked the boatloader?
Sent from my Xperia Arc S using xda premium
If you can use custom kernels, why are you using installing CWM recovery through some other application? Every custom kernel has it's own recovery.

Guys i need some advice with rooting my friend's Arc s. Here s what i did
Phone was on official ICS. I unlocked the bootloader using the official method.
Then i rooted it using some one click root method
Then installed recovery using recoverx software
Booted to recovery, wipe data, format system
Then tried to install a rom called racing bean. But i got and status 7 error. I tried some other JB rom.
But got the same error
Then i switched off and tried get to recovey. but could not
So i relocked the bootloader and installed official ICS again to boot the phone. The phone is fine now.
so can anybody help me to properly do this?? I just want to install CM on this phone
Racing bean or any other jb rom needs a JB Kernel too!.the ics kernel and jb rom mismatch might give that error.First flash a jb kernel and then it should work fine. This one's what i use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1885559.
First, you forgot kernel. Second make a backup with cwm before any wipe.

I flashed lupus kernel but after that i could not get into recovey. How can i do that?? I had the same problem with Arc fusion kernel
Well, there shouldnt be any problem, vol down or up button while the device lights up(led glows) does the job.But maybe u can try flashing it agn..if still having an issue..use an app like rom toolbox or boot manager to reboot into recovery..btw srry for the late reply
I gave up the effort. I tried about 6 Roms and kernels. Even ICS kernels with ICS roms. But After flashing the rom the phone does not go pass the kernel boot screen. I had to relock the bootloader and flash the stock Rom again. I have flashed hundreds of roms on so many devices. But never faced this kind of situation

Not sure why you would have installed RecoverX if you have an unlocked bootloader as all you need to do is flash a kernel that includes CWM.

Ya right i did flash the kernel via fastboot. Then booted into CWM and flashed the rom. But when i reboot it gets stuck at kernel screen
This happened to me and all I did was leave the phone like 10 mins booting, then it magically worked. I'm using Arc fusion 4.3 with racing bean, no problems. Try this, flash lupus kernel, wipe everything, go on fastboot and flash fusion, try to go on cwm and if it works, try to install racingbean again. At least that's one of the things I did.
AW: Need Help
Always give the recovery log...
& exact error code ^^
Than search google.
Than xda.
Than post ^^
flash newest sony ics stock rom-->fastboot kernel in the cm zip-->wipe all cm need-->use cwm flash rom-->use cwm flash gapp (goo.im/gapps) (ex: cm10 should be gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip)-->enjoy!!
NOTE: If you are facing problems such as "Status Error 7" while installing, try THIS

After flashing fusion 4,5 kernel,cm10 rom 208 ver always return back fxp kernel after rebooting. Unchecked automatic restore in backup & restore.

Thanks guys but what means "prerooted" .
I just cannot flash fusion kernel becouse cm10 return back fxp kernel when rebooting, and this hapens only with fxp208, this is first problem with this rom.
Second is that with fxp kernel I cannot have root access but if I flash fusion 4,5 I have.
Thanks in advance
Pre rooted means the ROM is rooted already.
As for your problem, can you list the steps you did to flash the kernels?

step 1. flash fxp208 kernel
step 2.(wipe delvik, wipe cash) install cm10 208 from recowery I try to wipe after install rom same result
step 3. flash fusion 4.5 kernel
when I first boot fusion kernel is on, but first after I try to reboot device rom return fxp kernel
Ok I solved.
Problem is flashtool
This is not hapend if I flash kernel in command prompt "fastboot flash boot boot.img" but if I use flashtool always back previewsly installed kernel
Regards
I started off by install unlocking bootlodaer, install CWM and then finally CM10.
But, when I was install CM10 via update.zip, I got some symlink error and phone just didn't boot & it always got hunged up at "SONY" logo screen. Clicking on Lolo of Sony more than 3 times was not helping either to get to CWM.
The way I solved this issue was by starting mobile in fastboot state and using recovery-nozomi file to flash it. May I know what this file did, because after that, I was able to enter CWM directly without doing any taps on Sony logo.
Someone please guess as to what might have happened? It's just a start & I've to do a lot of things from here on.
General is not for Questions. Post question on Q&A section.
And answering your question, I think you didn't flash CM10 Kernel. Isn't it? Stock kernel not work with CM10. You have to flash CM10 kernel in the package. Go HERE if you want more info about flashing kernel.

That was the thing, flashing the boot.img from CM10's zip fixed some random freezes that I was having. Why don't we flash those boot.imgs from the zip+CWM method itself? Is it like, it's not possible?

Its not possible to flash boot.img from rom via cwm over stock kernel. Once you have a custom kernel, the recovery will automatically flash the kernel from zip the next you flash a different rom .
