It may very well be possible to actually disassemble the s4 camera sacrifice it into the s3 motherboard I might attempt to find a extra camera 40 s for online and try this only because the physical aspects of the cameras and design haven't really changed and I remember in old mod that was done on the T Mobile vibrant using AT&T model you could actually put the AT&T front camera into the samsung vibrant giving the vibrant a front cam
Anyone have opinions on this being done might need a software change if the physical cams swap over, I'm sure it will be a good amount of time before the camera alone becomes available online to purchase somewhere
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Remember you'll need the appropriate drivers just like the vibrant with the international FFC. It could be possible but I doubt it. I haven't looked into this though so don't quote me.

You think the the hardware of the camera is the same? If I remember the vibrant had the hold for it but in this case would like to know if the housing of the s4 camera is the same for the s3.

I just checked the pin-count on the S4 and S3 camera modules, and they are identical. Looks like they could fit, except that the flexcable is in the wrong place. This is something that might be possible to fix, though.
If I could get the module to fit physically, would it (in theory) be possible to use S4 camera module drivers for the S3?

Agreed! And if you are a photography enthusiast or professional, Im willing to bet you have a camera that no smartphone can match anyway! Plus the risk involved vs the cost of the hardware just makes this impractical, to me anyway!
But then there is also something else to consider. The S4 is already on 4.2.2. I seriously doubt the camera modules, let alone the SamsungCamera.apk, would work at all on our phones which are still only at 4.1.2.
After we get our update, this point may become redundant, but I do not think it would be possible right now.
I've also heard that it may be possible to mod the battery from the S4 to the S3. Think of the possibilities!
To be honest it doesn't seem worth it to try. If you mess something up you'll pay big time, and the quality isn't that much of a difference unless you're obsessed with photography. It just seems impractical to me. And there's no guarantee it'll work just because it worked on an other Samsung phone.
Just pointing that out. But you guys can do whatever you want just don't come crying to me when you break something.
I would just wait for the s5 or get an s4. Right now I'm more than happy with my AT&T S3.

No, the only people that are going to do this mod are people that are impressed by numbers and can not leave their phone well enough alone.
No serious photographer is going to use their cell phone camera, no less care about 8 to 13 MP. Its like sac religious.
Here just buy this Nokia 1020 with 41mp camera that is coming out in a couple weeks it spits out a 5mp copy with each hi-res pic taken for sharing......Only $299 with 2 year contract >>> http://i.nokia.com/blob/view/-/2723846/data/1/-/Lumia1020-whitepaper.pdf

ok heres the deal guys a got an upgrade next month and im trying to decide between the two. my main points of interest are a soild camera both front and rear, music, speed, wireless tether, display, development, build quality, and signal aka connectivity. the only thing keeping me from going straight to the gnex atm is the camera, signal (i read alot of issues with the gnex) and the processor is a tid bit slower. dont get me wrong i love stock android over sense then again the dialer for sense is nice with the auto completion. idk i just cant decide i know ill get a more 1 sided opinion on this forum but try to be open minded on your opinions....

This solves it every time. Don't like some guys on a forum tell you what device to buy... choose what's best for you. Just be an informed consumer.
I carry both phones on a daily basis. Both of them are great devices in their own respect. The only thing I'm not in love with on my nexus is the camera. If I'm going to take a picture I'll usually reach for my Rezound first but that's about the only time I will. The battery life has been better on my Rezound also but that is mostly due to the fact that I don't use it as much as my Nexus. The Nexus feels better in my hand than the Rezound (which I also like better than the blocky Razr), I like how well it rests in my palm and also really like the curved screen. As far as processor goes there is also much more to consider than a 300mhz bump in clock speed between the two. And after using my Nexus I will never want anything other than Vanilla Android 4.0+. It pains me to use anything else. Lol.
The signal on both of them has seemed equal to me to be honest. I haven't had any of the issues other users have reported with the Nexus and both are reliable as far as network connectivity and speed. The build quality on both of them are solid. As far as music goes the Rezound does come with the beats headphones which are nice...

Sort of agree with this but sometime demo units are laggy and not a full-representation of what the phone actually is when a person is using it.

The only reasons I would see to get a rezound would be if you love sense, or if you really need a good on your phone. I was a little iffy about the nexus, but 2 weeks in I have zero regrets. But then again camera isn't that important to me.

I have a GN and my wife has a rezound. Both are great phones. The Rezound does get a bit better reception. The screen is a matter of preference... The rezound is brighter, but the GN has richer colors.
I think the GN feels better in my hand and I personally prefer the button configuration
GN is definitely easier to root, although I did manage to unlock and rom the rezound also.
If you don't mind waiting, the Galaxy S III should be unveiled around then and may tickle your fancy. The Galaxy S II had a good camera so I would imagine that the next iteration would improve upon it

I really would like to get one but I'm having second thoughts about paying full price for a bigger screen. I should, but doubt I will knowing my impulsiveness, wait to see if there's any problems initially like there was with this phone when it first comes out. I will also wonder what kind of specs the g3 well have and when it will be here for us. Those are the two I'm watching. Also, if the note still has a dual core snapdragon when it comes out for us, I might pass. Two steps forward with the hardware then one back with the CPU.
Id buy one first day.

Very true statement. If it domes with an S4pro with the new adreno gpu that thing will be a monster. I know that Samsung will eventually integrate lte in their processors but when is the question.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yes. Give me one with LTE and any exynos processor and I would be totally satisfied and have no need for anything else for the rest of that contract at least!
With how big the battery is, couldn't they just put an lte radio in there and have a toggle to turn it off and on like wimax? Then it would still be our responsibility to watch the battery. I could totally go for something like that as long as they kept the exynos. But do not count out the S4pro it has the upgraded gpu also with lte built on the die.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
If it came with ICS out of the box, and LTE support. Would definitely pick it up.
Because I too will be paying full price (unless I come up with a way to sweet talk an early upgrade out of someone) and since I'm not even 100% sold on getting the phone, I'm definitely going to wait awhile and see how it performs. Also the extra wait time will allow a chance for the SG3 to possibly make an appearance, that's the phone I really want.
But I'm a major gadget whore so there's no guarantee what I will or won't buy regardless the cost. lol
I don't know...I like the Note, but I would need a few things in order to lock myself in for 2 more years for it. First, LTE capability. ICS would be good, but not necessary at launch for me.
It would need an upgraded processor though. With the Evo LTE coming out and the SGS III likely to be announced sometime soon, I don't want to get stuck with a last gen processor for 2 years.
Honestly, I probably won't make a decision on my next phone until I see what Sammy has up their sleeve.

Thought I'd share my thoughts on the N4 vs. the S3
I bought my wife a Nexus 4... if I liked it, I planned on selling my S3 and getting another one for myself.
That way we could share accessories, car docks, etc... there would be some benefit to having the same exact phone.
Anyway... her Nexus 4 was delivered yesterday and I'm not sure that I like it any better than the S3.
The N4 seems bulkier and while the N4 does have a slightly higher resolution than the S3, some of that real estate is used for the soft buttons home, back and recent apps.
So when you have them side by side it looks like the S3's screen is bigger on a smaller device.
The play store is sold out of N4s right now anyway, so I don't really have a choice.
I think once CM10.1 (or any AOSP 4.2 based ROM) is stable there'd be no reason to go from the S3 to the N4 (until 4.3 comes out and you have that 3 to 4 month lag).
Also, my S3 has 32GB and a micro sd card slot.
Ok?

There are many things that I don't like hardware wise about the nexus phones, I used to own the nexus one and I was very very happy with it until I lost it, but the new models don't appeal to me like the original did... too bad other android phones get updates only if you're lucky :/
I almost bought an N4 over the S3 until I heard about no wifi calling on the N4 through T-mobile. That plus the lack of expandable storage and glass back of the N4 pushed me towards the S3 and I haven't regretted my purchase at all. Dropped a 64gb Micro-SD in the S3, installed Nova Launcher and BAM..Samsung knows how to make a great phone. I still hate touch-wiz, but any launcher of choice fixes that rather quickly. I really wanted the N4 until I tried the S3 + Nova Launcher.
Same here buddy. I got my gf a N4 and I compared it with my s3. to tell you the truth I figure why would I want a nexus4? If I flash CM on my s3 would be better. The only thing I liked about the n4 is the hardware with the back glass. But Im happy with my s3 and not going to get me a n4.
I agree with you the s3 seems to have more space on the screen.
By the way my gf is getting tired of the n4 she doesnt want to root. So there is no way I can fix what she wants. She says that some apps like bank of america and cnn dont work properly, she hates the fact of not having adobe (even thought i told her I'll put it on and she dont want to, she says that if it was taking off it was for a reason.) Another thing she doesnt like is the speed of the phone browser wise. But anyways I like my s3

Well unless you are on the value plan. Then your price is 500+ $$. That's what drove me to get a gnex prior to this phone. I paid only 250 for it when I paid 529 fory gs2. I paid 549 for this phone and laying it in installments. The nexus four is half that price. So yes it is an advantage.

Well comparing a phone that is actually sold to a theoretical phone "s4" is not a comparison at all. I do think that Google has put out good nexus devices bit obviously not everyone likes what they put out, hence why people choose the s3 or other devices . Those people want SD card support, etc. When I owned a gnex I actually felt at peace knowing I'd be running g the latest and wouldn't have to be refreshing xda forums hoping for a good rom to run. There are reasons I'm on the sgs3 and not in the gnez but its not because it wasn't an awesome phone , but because the features it offered were not as beneficial as what I get from an s3. (WiFi calling, SD card, increased in call volume, media volume. ) I am not going for the "s4." Because Samsung is also towing us along like sheep. Yes I said it. How many of you actually will keep your s3 longer than 1 year? They only care about competing with iPhone.

Lmao "fake" S4...
Google wasn't trying to make an S4, or to even compete with the next generation of the Galaxy line; they wanted to make a high end Nexus device with a low price point so they can gain a higher userbase in their ecosystem rather than giving Apple a chance to herd more people into their's.
It's really not about which is the better device, the S3 or the N4, but rather which device is more suitable. I love the S3 because of its screen size, microSD slot, and the screen saturation. On the other hand, I'd jump at the chance to try out a Nexus 4 because it's pure vanilla with a sharper screen, pure black slate at the front with no branding or logos, and the build quality looks to be able to provide a very premium feel.
That's actually a good point.

If everything works except the rear camera, buy a new camera . it only cost 33 dollars http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-samsung-galaxy-note-ii-sgh-t889-back-camera.html

The n7100 camera module looks the same. Cant find the factory part numbers for both but it looks like it should work. Only 16 bucks on ebay

Well that website linked by deez has the 7100 camera too. It is only 19 and had a different part number, so if u was a gambling man I'd say it won't work

Considering the fact the radio, kernel, and OS are pretty much interchangeable between the t889 and n7100, I'd say it uses the same driver. ....... meaning same hardware. Looks identical, same connector, and same drivers...... you think it wont work why?
Both use the tolte kernels and build tree as well.
Besides, I cant imagine Samsung would make multiple camera modules that are all different.... but look alike..... that wouldnt be very cost inefficient for them.

Based on my stated reasons, the same website list 2 part numbers and 2 different prices.
And to cost efficient why do some have wireless charging and we have to mod ours. The s3 had a thread just like this and you know what, there was a slight size difference they caused it not to work. Will this one work, I don't know I'm just looking at details and made a comment. By the way I'm talking hardware differences. It can be the same core hardware with difference shell causing it not to fit
OH AND THE N7100 IS TO3G THE N7105 IS TOLTE! So you're whole argument is wrong

BURRNNNN!
For future reference i would take each advice with gratitude and not trying to prove one person wrong. Have an open mind. He is right if you did a little more research you would see he is right.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
First of all... the only thing I was wrong about was that the tolte was n7105..... for that, I stand corrected.
HOWEVER.....There is no burn as I am not wrong. Hardware wise the devices are identical as they use the exact same drivers for the cam.
Much like you can use the same driver made for a dlink on a netgear, or belkin wireless card, as long as they all are the same interface ( pci / usb ) and run on the same chipset. Same concept. Different part numbers but the same driver and connection = same device period.
Proof? Refer to this thread... you can port any n7100 rom to an n7105.... and since n7105 is tolte...... as is the t889, all drivers are the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018411
Partitions are laid out differently. ..However....you can modify n7100 roms to work for n7105 and i317. As such, that means the firmware to run the camera module should identical...also meaning the camera hardware is using the same components.
Now.....Since we do use the international note base in some of our t889 builds, ( JediX to name one ), that means the n7105 camera is the same as the t889 at least driver wise.
As long as the connection to the motherboard is the same, which it appears to be, and it has the same driver to control the hardware, he should be good to go. Ill order one next week just to try ......
Never go 100% based on part numbers ... I worked for Ricoh as a field technician ( digital imaging + digital copy equipment ) ...we used the same 5 photo sensors for 30+ machines. All had different part numbers but were all interchangeable. Part numbers were different so there was accountability for which models used sensors more.
One more thing. Some one also documented that when they tore down their phone, there were multiple models printed on the ribbons and other hardware ( i317 , n7105 etc ). Im willing to bet that there are n7100 parts in some of our phones anyway.....

Well congratulations you win. I don't waste my time arguing with fools on the internet. I made a very simple comment that if I was a gambling man I would bet it wouldn't work, that's it then you had to turn it into a in right you're wrong thing. So go ahead you win, you're also exactly why I'm getting tired of xda.
Also, I'm not going by part number only. In your rant you missed the fact I said we had this exact scenario on the Verizon s3 and there was a slight difference in size that didn't allow it to fit.
But go in with your Internet gangster self, you're a bad man and the smartest person here.
I'd like to remind you on one thing though. You're talking about the RON being interchangeable. The"drivers" are in the kernel, which is not interchangeable. Try a TO3G kernel on your phone and let me know how that works out.

Wasn't trying to "win" for one. I was merely giving support for my theory. That whole comment was to the person who made the "burnnnnnn" comment. As far as this topic goes, I already said im going to buy the cheaper camera and give it a shot to be sure... its not a big deal to test things out. You keep doing you bro.... I harbor no ill feelings towards you.
Also...I never claimed to be the end all to be all. I DO however have experience as an electrical / mechanical technician and worked on circuit boards / imaging equipment following point to point schematics..... Im not just some Internet made want to be know it all.

I'd go with the G2 just to have a faux Nexus 5, very much like how our LGOG is a faux Nexus 4. But the M8 does look quite sexy, and you can always throw AOSP on that once the dev team steps up. Logically I'd say go with the M8 for it being the latest and greatest, but for ROM purposes I'd say the G2 wouldn't be a bad choice either.
Or, you could flip a coin and let fate decide. I usually do that when I'm really stuck between something, lol.

I was thinking that, but looking at specs, it doesn't seem to be so much better to warrant the price difference.
I read that the LG G2 has serious issues with ASOP roms. I may be getting a new phone and that would be a deal breaker.
EDIT: maybe not serious problems but that kinda put me off also resale value of the new HTC one!
The HTC one 2014 still has 4 MegaPixel camera. Keep that in mind. I would say G2 for camera and AOSP ROMs will get better in time. Plus the UI is pretty nice on G2. One has beautiful UI, but lacks camera. Honestly is it up to you. If you use camera on phone, I would go G2. If camera isn't important, look at One.

I had the HTC One for a while before I had to give it to my wife and get the LGOG. Long story.. Anyway, the 4ultrapix camera was awesome and the software that came with it is amazing. I can't imagine the m8 would disappoint. I love rooting and playing with my phones but the One was so sweet I never got the itch. The Zoe feature for the camera is awesome too. My 2cents

I'm in the same situation. I'm renewing my contract by end of April. I was already decided about the G2 but came the M8. I don't really use the camera on my phone that often, because I prefer shooting with my Olympus camera. The design of the M8 is just so sexy, but I'm drawn back to the G2 when thinking about the battery. So confused!

I will never buy an LG phone again. 1 significant update in the 1.5 years for the LG OG is pathetic.
The Dev community has been great, but ASOP does not have conversation view and encryption does not work on LGOG CM
I purchased the M8 and have no regrets. I was concerned about the camera but the pictures have been a lot better then the LG OG in low light.
I would not purchase the G2.

The camera on the G2 sucks. It's great under good lighting conditions but fails at a lot of other aspects. It pretty much suffers from the same problems the LGOG suffered from. Great camera but awful software utilizing it. LG don't know how to tweak a camera to save their lives. Even the original M7 with its 4mp was better to use. At least the M8 has an extra sensor to improve it some more. For best camera I would always go with Galaxy devices, Samsung tweaks their cameras for optimum performance and do a great job at it.

I agree. The galaxy Cameras are great. Only problem I have with Galaxy devices are the power button fails. Went through 2 because of it. LGOG didn't have a terrible camera, but it wasn't the best either. I just don't believe 4MP would cut it if you wanted to crop or zoom at all. Don't know what HTC was thinking. He is correct though, if a camera is what you're going for, Samsung can usually deliver. G2 just has some neat functions and is good for daily use. One has speakers and clean UI with good built quality. Samsung has good cameras and (to me) pretty good build quality, even if it is plastic. Don't forget about the Nexus! Good build quality, more bang for buck, and all the AOSP support you will ever need!

For the second time, it's 4 ultrapixels lol.
And it zooms just as good if not better than this phone .
Also, my next phone will most likely not be LG unless they get there crap together. Will most likely go with HTCs newest phone next year if doesn't look like the m8(not my taste), as I deeply miss sense and the aluminum my evo shift has.

I hope you know ultrapixels is a made up gimmick word HTC came up with to make 4 megapixels sound awesome.. And yes you can zoom but doing so ruins the pictures quality because at the end of the day it is just 4 megapixels. Only reason they made up the word ultrapixels was because of the low light performance and to sell off 4mp.

My friend has a one max. It is four mega pixels, but the sensor brings in more information. We tested our cameras side by side, and his was the same as far a zooming in went. And low light was better.

Than either he has a very special HTC One or you two are not photoheads. I have the One on my account for my aunt and when I compared it with my Note 2 back then the Note 2 blew it away as far as cropping/zooming goes. You will start to see some distortion as you zoom/crop.. Did you do your test on a PC or from the phones display? It's funny because all the reviews have similar results. Idk if your fanboying to the max or really believe you got those results. Those sensor bring more information for lowlight performance they have nothing to do with zooming and cropping, just nice pictures at night. Heck even my sisters HTC EVO 4G LTE smokes the One..
If I can I'm picking the HTC one M8 over the LG G2. Build quality/speakers/Snapdragon 801 is enough for me.
The only LG product I would buy now would be a Nexus. I read all the horroe stories about updates of previous phones. I thought for sure because our flagship phone was based off a Nexus we would get timely updates. I want to wait and see what the Note 4 has to offer.
