[Q] Can not boot into recovery - Cyanogenmod 10.1 and Desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I installed a new ROM last night - CyanogenMod 101 - CyanoMod007 v16
Everything is working great. Except I am not sure how to rebood into recovery mode so that I can make a nandroid backup. I used to just hold down the power button and then would have that option (was using Leedroid before).
Any ideas on how to get into recovery???
Thank you very much!
Glenn

ok go here (if u want) and download 4ext recovery updater app, install it then flash 4ext recovery using the app. 4ext is waaaay ahead and much better than cwm.

Booting into recovery, boot loader, etc are hidden initially in cm10.1 ROMs. You can activate these by going to settings.....developer settings.....check advanced reboot.

Dude, this guy didn't know that he was in recovery all the time he flashed the ROM, why you so serious I can't stop laughing at that

I can help you!
Go into "About Device" and click 7 times on the "Build Number". Now, you will have "Developer Options". So, go back and click on "Developer Options". Now scroll down and click on "Advanced Boot". Once you have switched it on, click on your power button. Now, click on "Reboot" and select "Recovery". Now you will have booted into your Revovery!! Hoped this helped you!

[Q] Quick Q about flashing with ADB

Hi there.
My ClockworkRecovery has become unresponsive. I can get the main menu of Clockwork (reboot, flash update.zip, etc...) but when I select an option, it just goes to a black screen. selecting reboot doesnt even reboot the device. I downloaded and reflashed another Clockwork recovery, but it still has this issue.
Does anyone know how to ADB flash a new rom from the zip file provided? thanks

Are you using the Power button to select the option, as you do in HBOOT?
If so, you don't do this in custom recovery - you use the trackpad button.

Dave

ruh oh, need help!

Okey doks, just received my new HTC One V and got myself in a pickle.
Using CWM 6.0.1.5 made a nandroid backup of the stock phone. The I proceeded to do flash the rom & kernel to CM10 nightly following all the directions. Then noticed it was able to boot into CM10 JB; however, it would keep saying the keyboard stopped working and after a min or so would reboot. So I then proceeded to try to go back to stock then I got md5 mismatch.. i was like wtf.. so i decided to flash the recovery to CWM 5.5.0.4 and now im stuck at the recovery and when i press the power button to select an option in CWM all my options just disappear. If press power again my options come back but if i try to select any and hit power it just disappears again. What to do?
Have you renamed the backup ??

Yea I tried renaming the backup and it still says mismatch md5. But anyways I put CWM 6.0.1.5 back on it and decided to try loading a different rom. I data/cache/dalvik wiped the phone, installed from zip AOKP PrimoC (I did CM10 the same way), Rebooted phone to fastboot and grabbed the boot.img from AOKP PrimoC zip and threw it in my fastboot folder and used:
c:\fastboot>fastboot flash boot boot.img
rebooted and i get a black boot screen and it just keeps rebooting. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
You are probably gonna have to follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018518
And in clockworkmod 5 you have to use the volume buttons to scroll through the list from top to bottom a few times before using the power button to select items. A quirk but it will work after you do that. Let us know your results.

Dude ...reflash the first recovery you flashed then make a new nandroid backup to rename the old one as the form as the new one .....and you can get the date and time from details of the folder ...that's what I once did

lol nicely put.
your phone will charge in bootloader and recovery. and im pretty sure thats the radio i had when i was bootlooping, and the ruu downgrade fixed it. just remember to relock your bootloader, and follow the instructions in that guide to pull your stock recovery and flash that back in fastboot.
Having a space " " in the Backup name also gives md5 md5 Error

[Q] S-OFF but not Rooted, Recovery not working

I tried rooting my HTC Wildfire using the Revolutionary method. I was able to successfully S-OFF, root and install a custom ROM. Realizing I haven't installed gapps, I thought of flashing gapps alone and later changed my mind that I can try flashing CM 10 and then gapps. But strangely, the CWM recovery does not work for me now. Every time I enter into recovery and select an item in the list by pressing the POWER button, I get a screen with CWM icon and then nothing. Pressing the POWER button again returns to the menu, but no action done. Now my device is S-OFF but without root access. Help me out of this please.
P.S: I have tried running fastboot executable from the PC and also by putting files as PC49IMG.ZIP in the memory card. Nothing has got me the CWM recovery working nor the root access.

Simple solution for the CWM Recovery menu... You use your trackball to scroll and press it to select the option. The power button always hides the menu. you use trackball.

Hi GlennBrownie,
CWM recovery works now, thanks to you. But am facing another issue. As stated earlier, my phone is not rooted. I tried to flash Mini Cyanogenmod 9 and after successfully installing from SD card, I rebooted the phone. All I got was the Cyanogen image and nothing more. I had to restore my previous ROM. Please help me out of this so I can enjoy ICS on my phone.
Your phone is rooted. MiniCM 9 V2.0 hangs at boot animation. Try V1.0 it works fine (Benni has just released a version of CM10. It is in the General section. I am going to try it this weekend. It sounds very good to me)

Won't boot - urgent help needed :)

I seem to have messed my SGNII again I didn't do anything strange - just wanted to reboot into recovery, but instead of pressing pwr+volup+home I thought it easier to do from an app. So I searched for an app to do that and found that Titanium backup as option to reboot into recovery. So I selected reboot->recovery, and my phone rebooted and now it is stuck on SGNII GT-N7100 screen... I pulled battery out and nothing, tried to press pwr+volup+home, nothing, pwr+voldn+home works and gets me into dowload mode.
What should I do? Pls, ASAP I need my phone!!! Thanx!
Really strange. I suggest you to boot into Safe mode to see if you can go to the OS or flash wia Odin your custom recovery if you have one or your stock version.
The global solution would be to flash a stock firmware of course.

You have Andromizer, Rom Toolbox, Rom manager...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
There are some more apps that you can go into recovery for example an app called "Quick Boot (Reboot)" if you don't want to use rom manager, or rom toolbox.
And I had strange issue with Titanium Backup too, just when I used SlimBean Weekly Rom and I wanted just to backup my Nova launcher and power toggles apps, so strangely my phone went into bootloop and I had to wipe everything to get it to work again...

have u tried flashing philz recovery from odin there is an option to untick "autoreboot" in odin. Once flash is done, keep pressing power button until it reboots (normally will go to recovery)
when in recovery, if you choose option "reboot system now" and you get "yes - disable flash recovery", select that option to avoid stock recovery overwriting cwm
some people may can go into cwm by pressing volume up + power + home simultaneously. .. i already fix it.. during we push volume up + power + home, once at the logo of samsung, realease only the power button and keep pushing the volume up + home. It works at my note 2 to go into cwm.

Hi Guys, My phone is made in Vietnam. The language I see in download mode is Vietnamese. The baseband version is N7100ZHDMB1.
It says it is rooted, I have super user and titanium backup running but whenever I try to reboot to CWM the screen flashes gibberish and then goes to the Samsung Note II logo.
Should I still try this method?
The phone works fine but I want to run another ROM.

had the same issue. downloaded latest philz touch & flash by odin. rebooted & all is good. Now will root using Dr Ketan Multi Tool
Please have patience with this noob. When I look through titanium backup all the firmware programs have N7105HDMB1 while the "About Device" menu in settings say N7100HDMB1.
Which one of the Philz downloads should I use, N7100 or N7105?
Solved!
I used the Philz for N7100 and I am cooking with gas!!!!
