[Q] G2 Won't Charge - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My G2 didn't charge last night. I tried multiple chargers, batteries, wall sockets, and even a USB connection to my laptop. The cables fit snugly into the micro USB port on the unit. When I plug it, nothing happens. no charging indicator. T-Mobile tech support told me to buy a new phone.
Is there anything else I can try?
UPDATE: Tried a master reset but no change. Is it a hardware issue with the port?

Broken micro usb port

That's my fear. Time to figure out a replacement.

A simelar problem
Hi there, i think i have the same problem.
Only one thing is different. When i putt it on the charger the charging indicator blinks for 3 times and thats is. Does anyone has a idee?
Also the boot doesnt work(volume - and the power button)

check whether the fast boot is turned off before trying (volume down+ power button.)

Yes, you can try to repair the phone replacing charging controller. At official HTC Service repair cost will probably be equal to buying mainboard from ebay or aliexpress.com - around $80-95. Individual (non-certified) service men will do that for $25-30, but risk of killing the phone in this case is pretty high. But in the situation described above there's nothing to loose.
Another solution: in case your phone is working well with pre-charged battery you can buy one masterpiece by chineese manufacturers - universal charger or charger like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BMHD6LA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Try with another battery (pre-charged). If the phone boots up normally and works well - see my previous post.

Its most likely a 3 dollar USB port that probably needs replacing, have a look in there and see if there is any visible damage as in broken away contacts.
If you want to replace it yourself its not terrible to do if your OK at soldering, had to do this to a few phones and only once did I fail, but then I don't consider my self an expert at fine soldering.

How much moisture do you think it takes to short out an electrical circuit?
For water to have gotten in the case far enough to damage the battery, it would have ruined more than that.
Did the phone stay on after you dropped it? Then no, it's not your battery.
Have you tried just letting the phone sit, off, and dry out, before trying it again?

Hi thanks 4 ur reply yes the phone stayed on after it was working fine till I put the charging in it. It would not charge the battery.
Just let it sit out over night...take the back cover off and battery out and just let it sit around...or if you have a blow dryer you can try that but dont put it to close

Good advice, but I'll just amend it to say ... ONLY when the battery is OUT. In fact, be sure to give it a few minutes after trying that before booting it back up. And, only point it at the back cover, it could easily have negative effects on the screen.
Hi appreciate the help everyone yeah I left battery out last night it still won't charge this morning, I am using the usb to adapter that came with the phone 2 charge it. This happen once with my HTC 8125 & I had to get a original charger to bring the phone back to life no charger will charge it but the original after u can use anyone, I will update u later and c how that worked out.
Hi guys on found this online on ppctechs.com it says "In some cases, your HTC Touch Pro 2 will not charge from an AC/DC adapter or other charging accessory when the battery life is below 30 percent."
Are you trying to charge from a USB port or an AC adapter?
Maybe the USB port is bad.
Do you have another charger to try?

Hi I try usb to adapter that came with the phone 3 different wall chargers and still not charging, last 2 try is a car charger don't have one and there is 1 ft of snow outside
Hi I ordered a new battery & a battery wall charger off ebay when I get it I will update u on how things when.
Hi I got the wall charger battery is fine I think I have a faulty usb port cuz the phone still won't charge or connect via usb can it be u need software to charge
have the same issue (didnt drop it in snow though) it won't charge via usb or car charger.
So you got a new battery and still won't charge via USB?
Mine connects to my pc fine, just doesn't charge. Ordered a new mugen power 1800mah battery, waiting for it to get here to see if its a battery problem.
yeah still don't charge plus it is in a bootloader loop think it is a hardware problem with the usb port
I know that, for example, the iPhone has about 4 moisture sensors, one inside the USB connector port, one in the headphone jack, and 2 inside the phone, the last 2 will trigger things like reboots or even blocking the charge. Put the phone in silica gel or, more convenient, a bag with dry rice (that's how I've saved my old lg vu) for couple of days...

Have you tried plugging it into the mains (wall) charger and let it sit for a while?
That fixed my bootloader loop, turns out the battery was too weak to power the device on that it went to bootloader. I Just plugged it into the wall charger and ignored it, came back and it was working fine and charging.
But it won't charge via usb or car charger
I had the same loop problem but mine never recovered. Never dropped it in anything wet either. I let it die once and could never get it to turn all the way back on because it would just try to boot and then shut off again over and over. Had to send it back for a new phone. If its new enough and there is no water damage marks then I would send it back for a new one.
Hi everyone phone is fix now it was a bad usb port that was causing the bootloader loop so protected your usb port.
I have a problem with my USB port too. Nope, no snow. Just realized one day why my internet kept getting disconnected. It's because the USB connection was the problem. Jiggling it around gets the orange (or green when battery is full) light to come on and computer will recognize it... or it starts charging from wall charger. I think the phone's USB connection is bad. Is this a common problem with this phone?

It seems to be yes, I've seen quite a number of people who've had this type of problem on the Rhodium end up finding out it was a bad USB port on the phone...I think HTC just might have used ones that weren't nearly sturdy enough.
USB Port of Kaiser TYTN II very sensitive to moisture
I have the same issue described here, with 2 different HTC Kaisers : (

[Q] Charging the phone

Some chargers just wont charge my phone, for example: iPhone's original charger or a powerbanks portable battery...
My guess is that the voltage is little bit different than the original wall charger and the phone wont charge from it, is there any soft\hard mod to overpass this issue?

What? Iphone's original charger? I don't think it won't ever can be used by our phone. Because it is for iphone. If it is a blackberry charger it can work but not all of it.
For powerbank maybe there is something wrong with the usb cable because mine can work well on every powerbank. Except the last one i used it didn't work but after i change the usb cable it works flawlessly.

wierd
By "Iphone's original charger" I mean the wall plug that you can pull the USB cable out:
[see attached image]
I've tried with three different cables.
BTW, I tried Powerbanks super magic stick, nothing happens when I plug it in...

Why don't use the original charger from the phone? It is definitely compatible though. But for the powerbank i don't seem to know. Sorry for my limitness

I've opened this thread especially because of the Powerbanks issue...
iphone's cherger is only an issue that I've mentioned because it may help to understand the problem.
why?
May I know why you keep calling your charger as iphone's charger? You realise that you're using an Android based phone right?
Is your original Android's charger broken? Why not just buy a new one? Or maybe asks for replacement if it's broken from the beginning.

Oh okay. Is your powerbank working on other devices except your wonder?

found a way to make it work
I solved my own problem..
It seems that if the connected device is not sending data (like PC or car host) to the phone the device wont charge.
Also I found out that the charger short circuit data+ and data- pinouts so the phone knows its the charger.
All I had to is cut a usb cable in half and connect green and white wires together (on the phone's side)
Not the chargers side! (to prevent potential damage)

USB Charging Port Malfunctioning

My USB charging port is acting up recently. It's very finicky.
Just last few days, I cannot get "Fast Charging". It just shows regular cable charging.
I've tried:
(1) Firmware Factory Reset
(2) Tried different USB cable aside from the OEM
(3) Tried different wall adapter aside from the OEM
(4) Making sure USB cable is pushed all the way in.
(5) Tried using different wall outlets
I have had this phone for a little over a month.
Anyone else having this charging issue, and found a resolution?
Is your device stock still? If so, you may want to send it back to the OEM now so you don't have the same problem later when out of warranty.

Just for kicks though, have you tried turning the phone off to charge it, letting it fully charge and then let it run all the way down? Is the prong inside your phone still in good condition? I've noticed that the micro USB port on this thing is a bit harder to plug in than the one on my Note 4. Seems more susceptible to getting damaged than the older ones for some reason.
You may also want to see if it has these problems while using a wireless charger. That will help you diagnose the port.

Thank you. I called T-Mobile, and requested a warranty exchange after conveying to them my predicament.
I will get a replacement overnighted.
it's really odd how the Quick Charge/Fast Charging stopped working. I hope it's not a widespread issue.
On a side note, wireless charging works as normal.

It's not your charge port , I had the same issue...try another cable and it will work. It's something with the oem cable, try using the "malfunctioning" cable and plug it in really fast and use pressure, that's how I get mine to work, basically line it up in the hole but don't plug in and then go really fast and plug it in hard.
I explored that avenue. I used various cables aside from the OEM to no avail.
I even tried different Quick Charge 2.0 wall adapters as well to no avail.

I have same problem..my phone is acting weird. .says usb connected and disconnect withoit any cable..not fast chargin either ..and is weird cuz i rarely use the usb to charge. ..and my warranty is void
Samsung needs to have more quality control on it's charging port.
First month, I had the phone, the charging port malfunctioned. I was able to ask T-Mobile for a warranty exchange, and got a replacement.
My replacement recently is also sporadically experiencing the same malfunction. Errrrrr.
Happens with mine when I use the original supplied charger. I have other quick chargers and they always work. So far, my issue is just with samsung charger.
Sent from my SM-G928T using Tapatalk
I have had this problem as well. It seems to me that the supplied cable gets worn out. I have used what I consider to be higher quality ones from other HTC phones and have had no issues.
It's a wide spread issue especially with the s6 edge plus. Mine has been doing it too. Nothing worst than plugging it in and seeing "cable charging" with a ridiculous about of time estimated until full. It's the cable!!! I bought some heavy duty cables a while back... Use it with the supplied charger from my s6 edge + and the note 4 and it's been working every time. That oem cable is a piece of garbage. When you trouble shooted with another cable.... It probably wasn't one capable of carrying the 9v for fast charging. Rarely is it the charger.... It's always the current running through the cable.
I have the exact same problem

S9 Moisture Detected in Charger Port message, port is dry and clean, never been wet.

SO yeah, I've seen where people have had software issues causing this on the Note 8, and S8 models, is it a bug that crept into the S9 as well? The tech at the Sprint store verified the cleanliness and dryness of the port, thinks it's the port, and they won't have parts to fix it for probably a month or so. I REALLY don't want to send it in to be fixed, so I bought a couple wireless chargers.

All the time. It has a popup with sound when you plug it in. The rest of the time, it's just a notification in the tray.

Yeah, tried rebooting, wiped cache, power down all the way, multiple times. Tried plugging the cable in while booting. It looks to be charging while plugged in and powered down.
So, the message went away, and it would charge with 2 different chargers, normal speed, not fast charge. Would not work with a charger I have here at home. None are Samsung chargers, but all are QC 3.0, which will report as fast charging on the phone. Then today it charged fast in the truck, and the one at home works, but only slow speed.
I'm not going to stress over it as long as the fast wireless charging keeps working. The battery life is more than enough to get me through a day, and I'm ordering stuff to integrate wireless chargers into the vehicles.
Thanks for reading and trying to help!

Yeah, I had tried the original cord and charger. whatever it was effected the phone before even plugging it in. The message would be there in the notifications, then plugging the cable in would set off an "alarm" telling me to unplug it and let it dry.
A couple weeks later and it is working just fine, charging with pretty much any cord, and charger. Ugh. I hope it stays that way! LOL At least Sprint DID give me a pretty good discount on a 2 pack of wireless chargers, which is what I use most of the time, now.

Thumbs up!
So, I've had this problem with my new Galaxy s9 as well. Here's the specifics - this only happens IF the phone dies from running out of power. If I let the battery drain on accident, I plug in the device...new cord/charger, original cord/charger, doesn't matter...and it shows the charging symbol for just a second, and then warning there's moisture in the charging port. There's not... If I set the phone on top of a wireless charging pad for a few mins, it charges just fine.
All I have to do is get 3 - 4 % so I can power on the device and get to the home screen. If I can get to the home screen, I can plug the phone in with the cord/charger and no problems.
I just did a warranty replacement because this problem is real annoying. I don't let the phone run out of power often, but sometimes when I'm traveling for work or camping with scouts, it happens. So, before I sent my old phone back for the warranty swap, I let the new phone run out of power and then tried to plug it in. Same error!!
If anyone has this problem follow this trick. "connect the charger half to the charging port." that is it. works fine to me..

RN5 Global won't charge

Hi all,
I have a ~2 year old RN5 Global. About 1 week ago, I noticed that it won't charge anymore. When I plug in the charger, the charging icon switches between on and off every second.
After the battery died, I was able to charge it to 68%.
I already tried different chargers and USB cables. I also changed the USB charging port.It doesn't look like the original, however, the problem remains.
Does anyone have an idea what I can try?
Update: I just replaced the battery. Still same behavior as before.
Does that also mean at the same time, that is it not a software issue?
