[Q]how to get rid of background apps - HTC One X

well the title said it. i have HOX unlocked and rooted with stock rom , the problem is there is alot of apps running in the back ground sucking my batter dry and filling my ram for no reason. i know there is alot of task mangers apps on the market (im using Advanced Task Manager Pro) it close all the apps running in the backround every 1 min, thats good but i want to stop the problem at it source. is there is a way to block the apps from even running in the first place?
im using :
Ds Battery Saver Pro (to save battery life)
Set Cpu (to control CPU clock thus save battery life)

Go to all apps in settings click the app and then disable.

Should have, I've been using it for over a month and it did wonders for my battery. Did you hit the little plus button in the lower right hand corner. That's how you add apps that you want to "greenify".

Need educated!!!

I need educated on a few things, I'm concerned with the performance of my phone so I have it rooted and I have installed system panel to monitor things, autokill memory optimizer for ram of course as well as watchdog to alert me if any apps are outta control. Am I crazy for having these or is it a good idea? Also is there anything better I should use rather then what I already have? I just want my phone to run smooth and my battery to last bc I use my phone all day long

A lot of that is unneeded. I have System Panel, but only use it if I'm having problems with an app. Rarely is there a use for watchdog. On stable ROMs, I've never seen an app get out of control, and rarely on betas. So it justs sits in the background eating battery itself. Also try, using a stock speed, undervolted battery with SetCPU. If I'm trying to make mine last, I have a screen off profile of powersave 384/245, and regular of 700-800ish (I forget)/245 conservative.

[SHARE] Battery Saving Techniques!

NOTE: Im turning this into a sharing thread where everybody can post and share their techniques on how they save battery consumption. I'll quote all the useful suggestions here in the first post
I would like to start off by saying that all ROMs basically consume badly just like the stock version. There could be little to no differences between them with regards to battery performance. Right now I would like to share my observation, on what I presume to be one of the best ways to save battery while maintaining good performance.
glennlevi's Technique:
1. Get Antutu Battery Saver Pro (Free version can be found in the market). Install and untick the option control cpu speed.
2. Using No Frills CPU, or any other built-in cpu settings app, select your default governor (bcm####) and sio as your I/O scheduler. Maximum Frequency should be your highest available, and Minimum Frequency your lowest available.
3. Manually adjust screen brightness in settings to about 20%.
4. Untick Background Data and Auto Sync in settings, under Accounts and Sync Settings.
5. Get Ram Booster (Free in market) and install. Open. Under settings, set Boost Level to aggresive, set whitelist apps and tick your launcher, sms app, keyboard, and Ram Booster and Antutu Battery Saver. Untick Show Overlay Widget in Overlay Widget Settings. Enable the widget in the notification bar, refresh every 5s, Report Style Dont Show. Under Advanced Settings, set Feedback to None. Clean Ram using this app everytime just before you turn off your screen or want to stop using your phone.
6. Drag down your notification bar and tap the Ram Booster Notification. Now wait a couple of mins while browsing through your phone (without opening any apps)
*You can use other task killers if you want, but Ram Booster is the best IMO. A better replacement however is 360 launcher's cleaner widget (which will save more memory, ram and battery usage since its all in one app)
7. Open settings and go to Applications>Running Processes and look at all running apps, you will see some auto-start apps like Beats Audio, DSP Manager, Google Mail, Google Maps, Google Playstore and others. Uninstall all user apps that have autostarted. Download Titanium Backup and use it to uninstall stock bloatware, like google maps and google mail, or other custom bloatware like Beats Audio (If you dont use them at all). Clean Dalvik Cache using Titanium Backup and Clean Cache using Ram Booster. Freeze seldom used apps like Google Playstore. Just unfreeze when you want to use them.
*You can use other apps like Root Uninstaller to remove system apps, but IMO Titanium Backup is the easiest to use and has one of the most functions.

The best way to save battery is really to know your fone.
1. any type of widget should be avoided( except maybe clock) as they are juice hoggers.
2. ANY app that suggest or implies that they save battery defeats their own purpose for they themselves consume battery life...figures.
3. ANY app that has "killer" attached to it isn't really helpful because most of the app be it user or system just restarts after. Same goes for anything with "booster"..
4. Ram cleaner should suffice
5. keep most settings to a minimum.

i do. well, not full kernel, just kernel module. search bacem-tweak in dev section. but i find that the best thing you can do to save battery is keep your phone sleep as long as possible. that's means remove bloatware, limit installed app with service, and only turn data/wifi when needed. combine with undervoltage, usually i got 3-4 days in single charge. in some very rare condition i got 6-7 days.

Well, most custom roms are rooted anyways. Im just saying this cuz you might be running on stock rom

First off I would like to quote myself -
"Right now I would like to share my observation, on what I presume to be one of the best ways to save battery while maintaining good performance."
As such, Im sharing this because
1. I think it might help other people.
2. I've tried it and compared it many times in many different rom, and what I recommend is based from my own experience
3. I know youre a dev. Im not, obviously. That doesnt mean I cant share what I think is useful. This is also backed up by the fact that Im not claiming Im sure that these actually work and that I can back it up with additional information. Again, this is just based on my experience.
again I would like to repeat the quotation from myself:
"Right now I would like to share my observation, on what I presume to be one of the best ways to save battery while maintaining good performance."
There you go. I hope that clears it all up. So please dont pick on me or anything just because Im not a dev. Thank you.

Well, thanks anyways for noticing my thread. Now I know some of my suggestions may be far from the theoretical facts that you know, but there are times when actually testing something and comparing it with others yield better results than just looking up the figures. Thats just my take on it though, so Im not saying thats all there is to it.
Anyway, maybe I'll edit this thread and make it a SHARING THREAD instead. I'll just regularly view it and put all suggestions that other members have in the first post

Sir i want to ask you onething, offtopic, in nexus there is no memorycard slot, so we have to keep all data including gallery files and even a new rom in phone memory. If we want to flash a new rom, then how can we do that? While we wipe the data and cache before flashing all data will be deleted? The rom file too?.

Battery problems

I flashed the honeycomb battery icon. I have another app that I've been using (Android booster) that is a task killer. it shows my battery life, it was right on before the new icon but now they don't match up the widget says I have 10% more life in my battery then my battery icon on my status bar. Is there any way to fix this problem? or should I just deal with it
Thank you in advance

1st off, I'd recommend dumping any "task killer" as the GN2 has this functionality built in, especially since we're talking about battery performance...
2nd, I'd concentrate more on wakelock settings, and if I had to download any app it would be those that helped manage this. This way you can force everything to sleep when your not using your phone...
Also, depending on the governor, you may need to adjust your phones clock throttling upon waking/using the device, custom may be your best bet, but there might be a "built-in" profile that works perfectly for your particular individual usage
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
For some reason, I seem to only be able to manage about 5 hours of screen time. I've heard of people getting 6-8 hours.
I'm using this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2150145 but for some reason, that thread isn't very alive..
I tried the jedi ROM, but I just can't stand it when developers change little things about the UI. Is 5 hours normal for a ROM that's mostly stock? I'm using the UNEAK kernel.

3 'New' cool apps

Hey guys,
I just wanted to inform you about two apps I found recently that appear to boost performance and battery life a bit.
The one that boosts performance is a better and more efficient version of Seeder. It's called SeFix and (as opposed to Seeder) really does seem to work!
The second (the battery booster) is actually way more versatile:
It's called Greenify and it lets you disable apps to run in the background.
Eg. I set it to decline the Google Maps request to run in the background all the time; because as we all know, Maps often sucks somewhere near 7% of the battery.
(However, it needed me to root uninstall it and then install it from the play store, so it wasn't a system app anymore)
Anyway: I hope this helped and that it makes your device nicer to use (like it did for me)
Last but not least: as you are probably aware: Orange Backup is a backup app that lets you do complete (CWM or TWRP style backups) without having to go into the recovery!
Really awesome.

I really feel it extends my battery life. I like how it prevents Maps to run in the background.
I guess you can also set it that way for FaceBook too (if you have the app. I don't because I don't want to be tied to FB all the time) lol

[Q] RAM is at 2GB of 3GB ??

I have noticed that im using up 2gb of ram. But i have only downloaded a few apps. No games. All the stuff i had before. My old phone was a little over 1gb total. Is this normal. Does the phone uses a lot of ram out of the box. Im thinking of rooting just so i can free up some ram. Not sure if that is possible. Im coming from a galaxy and very happy with this d851 g3.
Anyone having a memory problem ? Issues? What can i do?
Android always runs while using up as much ram as possible. Thats normal, if your phone had 8gb of ram, most likely it would also be using most of it up.
Makes app switching faster.......
All that bloatware runs in the background contributing to a high ram usage

Not completely true. I disabled most of the T-Mobile and LG crap on this phone and it's still using the same amount of RAM. It's Android's memory management.
I bet if the Android team could go back in time in the early days of system development they would have probably removed the ability to see free ram. So many people get caught up in free ram when the phone is using the available ram to the best of its ability.
Windows does alot of the same as well. Even though if you go into task manager it shows free if you actually look at your system resourses it shows alot of it is taken.
Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
Not sure about the whole 2g for 3gb thing but your system need all the rams it can use to keep your phone running smoothly. If you use ram cleaner (so they are call) you will notice your phone goes through a gitter before it it can pick up again. You look 5 minute later, its like you never clean anything.
and tmobile is surely 3g
Free RAM is wasted RAM.
Android uses RAM differently from say Windows. Android will use as much ram as available and when it needs more, it will free it up as needed. This is normal.
So yea i installed greenify and it made a **** load of a difference because i have like 40 games and a load of other apps. I have less than 1.5 gigs used now. And my phones way smoother and batterylife is good again

Don't worry you're about to see that battery life drop like a rock. Constantly killing apps will kill your battery fast. Greenify is a nice app if you have a crap phone but your G3 was made the way it is for a reason. What you think is smooth and fast is actually hurting your phone. Don't believe me, Google it and do some research. I do not recommend anyone using any format of task killer or ram optimizer on a phone that is current with the times.
Do I think the phone has issues. yes. When using it the apps don't close when ram is needed. Only fix is a reboot or kill the app but at times that does not work

Don't worry Jammol doesn't know what he is talking about. Greenify doesn't hurt battery life and performance like a task killer because isn't a task killer. It is completely different. I agree that task killers should be renamed to battery/phone performance killers but Greenify is very different.
First of all it requires your phone to be rooted. Assuming that it is, it uses special permissions from the rooted device to essentially freeze the app unless it is opened by the user. For example, I use facebook but only casually. I look at it once every other day or so but have noticed that the push notifications and messenger uses a lot of battery because it does a partial wake everytime it pushes a update which activates the internet and cpu.
The solution is to "Greenify" the app. The app still loads normally when I open it up although, because it is not in the ram, it likely takes slightly longer to load. Once it is opened, I can use it like normal and I get push notifications again until my phone's screen goes off. Once the screen goes off, facebook and all the apps that I "Greenify" are flushed from the memory and are banned/essentially frozen until I launch the respective app again. The only drawback to this is that you essentially never get push notifications for the apps but it saves a lot of battery if you pick the apps that you don't care much about/rarely use.
So greenify does work really well. Today my phone had 17% left. I it had 16+ hours of battery time total. I got 4.25 hours of SOT with sync on (with 3 email accounts getting push notifications plus other apps), GPS high accuracy, LG health automatically recording my exercise, and 1 hour of navigation with Waze. Basically I used my phone how I wanted and didn't micromanage my battery usage throughout the day at all.
I used 3 battery saving tools. 1. ART 2. Greenify and 3. Custom Kernel V002 from KAsp3rd. These three are very powerful together.
I hope that helps someone!
