Action Launcher - Great improvement for those who like TouchWiz vertical scroll! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey all!
I would like to make mention of an unbelievable launcher from Chris Lacy called Action Launcher. It is like the TouchWiz vertical drawer on steroids. The drawer slides out from the left, with an alphabetical list like how TouchWiz can be configured. It has many groundbreaking features that I have never seen in other launchers and it's very easy/clean/minimalist. For those who don't like tons of homescreens but still like to use widgets, you can doubletap or swipe an app that has a widget, and it will just simply popup until you press elsewhere. (Similar to Overlays only automatic, less customization, and not persistent.) You can even do this from inside folders on your bottom bar. I've took some screenshots of my setup to show it's awesome functionality. Note: This launcher puts focus on ingenuity over raw amount of customization. It is not a replacement for you customization junkies, sorry; however, I've found I simply don't want to customize much anymore - it's all there! I hope some of you find something you like in this.

It is pretty cool, but its not free and I haven't seen a lite version. I just downloaded a pirated version to check it out. Many cool ideas, but they didn't work very well. I can't spend money on a work in progress.

High-res custom icon collections?

Is anyone aware of any high-res custom icon collections becoming available for the SGN? I've used the excellent Droidicon pack for a long time, but its icon sets seem to be fixed-res for 840x400 screens and so are way too small to use for the SGN's high-res screen. I've looked around the Market but haven't come up with any hits. Thanks!
I'll be watching this. I really don't like the new colorful/cartoony icons they are using in ICS. A smiley messages icon? Really? Is he waving at me? And that camera looks like it's from the 80s.
I am waiting for a nice pack for my ICS phone!
keeping an eye on this thread.
would be awesome for some high res icons
Try the icons from here:

ThaPHLASH has been making high quality Android icon packs since the dawn of time. I've always purchased his icon packs and they work really well with this 720p display. DOwnload his app (ThaIcon Ultimate) and take a look at them. He's a very good friend of mine and very talented at what he does.

bottom deck/icon app

hi i saw from somewhere where you can have numerous docked icons for the bottom row where normally just the 4+1 buttons.
not sure if its an app or widget or rom.
Can anyone verify?
Anything related to the dock, home screen or app drawer is due to the launcher used.
What you're referring is a scrollable dock where you can have many rows of docks when you swipe. Apex launcher has it and many others too.
Im using Nova Launcher and you can set how many apps you want in the dock, plus you can swipe the dock left and right for extra docks.
thanks for the feedbacks!
it got me started on Apex
and i've now also tried Go Launcher as well.
I'll try nova soon.
so far i liked apex more
there are so many random launchers out there its confusing!
just tried Nova.. its almost 95% identical to Apex?! lol
i guess we'll just have to choose one and stick with.
cheers.
thanks guys! this is exactly what i have also been looking for!
after trying few launchers around.
GO LAUNCHER is probably the best so far due to popularity (hence more themes), i can actually make everything look transparent and neat
But there is one really annoying point when used on ICS4 devices, which is that there is no option to disable/hide the menu bar on the bottom of the screen.
here are my screens:

Advice on Android app design needed!

Hi,
We’re designing our first Android app.
It’s a game app, which works like this: the home screen (the one in the mockup) has the person’s avatar and options like settings. There are certain tasks in the activity screen. For example, “Help parents with cooking.” When this is done, you can check it off in the activity screen. The achievements screen has a history of all previous achievements, details, etc.
The mockup is attached.
My concern is about the bottom bar. I added the bottom bar, to be a constant on all screens, because it makes intuitive sense for navigation—you don’t have to navigate back to the home screen everytime you need to go from say, achievements to activity screen. I’ve read a lot of stuff that says this is bad practice for Android, and to use action bars instead. But this is a kids’ app, and I’d like to keep the icons big, bold, distinctive and also in line with the general feel of the app.
Is what I have in the pic even a bottom bar? How else should I do things?
From the app described i think you need first swith to a bit neutral color becouse of the avatar possibility i think , also revisionate a bit the layout becouse you say is a game becouse is game need to add a bit of details ,
so i ve done a proto of what i say

[R] A better multitasking concept

Hello devs & m8 users! I've got a question to you.
After moving from 4.4 to lollipop I was frustrated to its multitasking scrolling slides. After a month I'm almost got used to it, but have a concept of how it could be slightly better.
Since sense5 HTC got a very neat multitasking feature with the windows of running apps composed in a grid:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
It was great to use your phone on the go, not going to many moves
Today using lollipop slides it is sometimes very hard to find the exact app you need - most of the card slides are used by chrome windows, or a mess of ungrouped apps. So I thought it would be great to compose them in single "slide cards folder" - you just simply swipe from left to right, browsing through them, the way HTC realised the whole multitask in sense4:
It is also possible to combine other apps in "slide folders" with their lables related to google play - for example a photo "folder" where apps like "pixlr, instagram, snapseed..." are held, email progs - another "folder" to slide", games, sports... etc.
I believe that this raw concept can bring an order to the mess of opened proramms & give people more user-friendly experince.
What do you think about this thing, guys? And is this even possible to code?

Question Does anyone know if there is a way to get rid of the huge space that is taken up by the clock when fully extending the notification panel?

I want to get rid of the huge space when fully extending the notification panel, so when I pull it all the way down, the brightness bar is around the center of the screen, does anyone know a way to do this, with or without root.

"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

Try using Galaxy Goodlock family of apps,
Quickstar. See if it can hide it for you...
Try notifications settings, try searching for "clock" in settings.
Quickstar hides the clock on my homescreen page, they may have added more options for Android 11/12.
On my N10+'s Android 9/10...
I will try that. Thank you.

Click to expand...
Click to collapse
That looks horrible. Is that Android 12?
13 will likely be worse.
On 9/10 it uses the space much better...
This was modified using Quickstar for the custom colors.
If you want to quickly access brightness control you can use One Handed Operation plus, Quicktools to do so.
Sadly there was no option for this, it seems to be essentially color type changes you can make
