Is it me or... - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

is it that development for this phone slowed down just a little bit?

lol nvm
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

Just a little bit. Mostly because there's nothing else to put into ROMs, most are pretty complete.
Sent from Jedi Mind Tricked Galaxy SII X

Phone is old now. Not obsolete, but very outdated at this point. A lot of people including myself upgrade every 2 years or so or when performance essentially doubles. Basically when an upgrade can not only be seen, but felt. People are moving on to bigger and better devices. To add, development for this phone is on its way to the grave. The phone has AOSP 4.2.2 and the last official update it's ever going to get, TW 4.1.2. Something that can't be said for most other phones from its time. Which is a surprise to me because as the crappiest version of the GS2 line, I didn't expect the t989 to get more dev support than its exynos powered siblings.
Angwho, I digress. What more do you want?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app

I agree with most of what above poster said. This phone has fewer and fewer users every week. So development with reflect this.
As far as worst s2....nope, that would be my wife's bell s2 hd lte, i757m. Only one active jelly bean rom....no official jelly bean coming apparently, and its newer than the t989d. Lol

Sammobile reported this: http://www.sammobile.com/2013/03/18/galaxy-s-ii-galaxy-note-to-get-android-4-2-2-android-5-0-for-the-galaxy-s-iii-galaxy-note-ii/
Perhaps it is what he was referring to. T989 and I727 are not listed at this point, but I9100 is.

Yeah nothing mentioned about any variant besides the international S2. Not saying we won't get 4.2, but imo the realistic chances of it are virtually nonexistent.

I agree. It's difficult to imagine Samsung or the carriers investing any further for devices with a relatively limited user population. I just wanted to share what @hatememarkz might have been referring to...which could very well be legitimate (but perhaps also irrelevant?)

Sprint finally rolling out 4.1 to Galaxy Nexus tomorrow. You know what that means :)

....GS3 is not far behind. And/or one of our brilliant dev's will port that bad boy to our beloved gs3's and we'll finally get some stable Jelly Bean goodness. (not that flashing nightlies hasn't been fun)

Actually it looks like some good stuff is happening over here on this thread. The brilliant Mr. Myn is cooking up some goodness for us based on tmo 4.1 leak. He ported a TW pre-build of 4.1 with very minimal bugs. And now according to the thread, there may be another leak that may fix those bugs. Either way, looks like things are coming together quite nicely. Have a look:

JB/Key Lime Pie

Once Jellybean is released, I wonder how long it will take before Key Lime Pie to be released. Jellybean has great features and wanting to know what features KLP has to offer. KLP might be android 4.2 or 5.0.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Is it really going to call key lime pie? (source?) anyways it just depends on what features it offers my gs3 is stock at the moment only cause I really need a reliable device and flashing ain't my cup of tea at the moment (I used to be a flashaholic) but I got a nexus and I can't wait for jb to come to the gs3 later on this month, the notification part is the most wanted feature and gofle now

It's too early to talk Key Lime Pie (Android 5.0), the norm for upgrades on Android phones has always been 1 major upgrade and that's normally it. Considering Galaxy S III is a great device I highly doubt we will see Key Lime Pie and they will save it for Galaxy S IV (or whatever their next Flagship device will be called)
That's not true. The Nexus S started with Gingerbread, then got the ICS update and now it has Jelly Bean

I agree. We dont even have "Official" Jelly Bean. Sure we have leaks but nothing official has been released other than the rollout to some internationals last week.
Let's be more concerned with a working JB and all the probable incrementals that come out afterwards (like ICS 4.0/4.0.3/4.0.4), than about leap-frogging onto the next OS.

So true, used to own a Nexus S and was supposed to get Google first updates right after the Galaxy Nexus and of course take a wild guess on what happened... Got it like after three other phones.. :what:
This time we can blame more on carrier like T-Mobile because phone like GS3 has leak for update on international version tells me that Samsung is working harder to release updates this time around. But update for carrier specific phone like ours will get stuck at T-Mobile for adding bloatwares and testing and such.. Had same issue with GS2 we will probably never see 4.1.2 on T-Mobile GS2 even though there was leak images for international one.
In the end it's all about business for them really..

I just installed embryo 6.8 today. So far so good! Was using Whitehawkz Aokp 4.2.2 for about a month...its very good! I just wanted to try a TW rom again, since last time I did there were alot more issues on the t989. Seems most of its been ironed out now....even have signal bars now.
Anyway, those are the 2 I've used recently. There are a bunch of great current roms tho! Just read thru the different rom threads to see what folks are saying about them.
Remember....for what I do with my phone I have very few if any issues....but for what you do with your phone...that could be different. Just nandroid a safe good backup....and flash anything that appeals to you. If you don't like, then restore your nandroid.
Have fun!

T-Mobile has announced software updates for the many of the devices I've used over the years and rarely have they ever followed through. There are plenty of JB ROMs that are worth looking at that will blow any T-Mo OTA out of the water.
And the T989 doesn't have the hardware capacity to run what the S4 will be able to run.

Looking forward to clark44's new rom

Yup
Though he was looking for testers for 4.0 release... only person to say if and when an update is coming out for sure is @clark44 himself.
Maybe someone else can pick up development for him and of course having permission to do so.
I for one would like to see and updated ROM with the latest releases because this is one of the few that is simple and clean with no theming.
Clark only supported the Sonic S3 for about 6 mos. He obviously was not in for the long haul. So more than likely his support for S4 is also gonna be short until another phone to his liking comes out. IMO cellphones popularity lifespans are about six months.
Is it really worth supporting some devs that disappear in 6 mos.?
I think he will still release something for the S3. I just saw on his twitter "I never forgot about FreeGS3 " but I'm not really sure what that could mean.
He's been very active in the S4 forums. I'd be shocked if FreeGS3 received an update. Not to worry though, there are other ROMs available that actually have good developer support, are as stable or better, and have many more features and options. What is the attraction to an updated FreeGS3 ROM? You can be quite certain it will have little to no support even if it ever surfaces.

I too am looking forward to a new version. In the mean time i've tried almost everyother rom out there, found some really great ones, and im still hoping a new version of this one will be released.

That'd be because at the time of its release and support FreeGS3 was one of the better bug free TW roms without over themeing the piss out of it. It was a damn good rom back in the day.
But in the end life happens and people move on. Just like whenever i upgrade to w/e phone is out, i wouldn't think twice about picking up my gs3...

I'm sure if he was going to update the S3 something would be out by now. At least he would have said something on his thread for the S3. At least I'll have his S4 ROM once I move to the S4.

He had the thread reponen and stated that there would be public beta for those being able to test and report back with full release possibly by the end of the upcoming week. Stay tuned at the rom's thread.

Good to hear, I'll have to give it another test drive!

As much as I agree with Mlin, Clark's rom was a bug-free rom after several updates. I just wished someone would update his rom and his thread in a fairly regular basis. But when a rom is that good, there isn't any need to update.
Let's see how long he'll stick around.
I've left TW roms for awhile. There are quite a bit of good AOSP roms out there now.
