did you have do the mod to enable lte?
What's "the" mod?

I fhink he might be talking about this mod? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041
I am also running an unlocked AT&T Note 2 on T-Mobile, and I was pleasantly surprised how readily it worked when inserting my sim. I did the mod for good measure, so I will see how it works now.
I don't know if this began since doing the mod or if it was like this before, but my device seems to sit on HSDPA9, and then ramps up to HSPAP15 when downloading something or whatever. All in all I'm pretty pleased
I did the aws mod. I have h+ just haven't seen lte. I hope it works. I'll have to take a walk around the city soon. Any luck on long Island?

I was playing with an AT&T unlocked one I just got in a trade. Got T-Mobile LTE signal in Bayside, NY. Didn't run a Speedtest to confirm. Deciding whether I want to switch from my Nexus 4.
I was in a T-Mobile store yesterday, and the guy said the network refarming was complete, even on a nationwide scale, and that they are also incorporating LTE. not sure how accurate that is, but if it is, I guess we are good to go now on T-Mo with unlocked AT&T and international phones, without having to do any mods! I still don't see any coverage maps or official confirmation online anywhere tho
Speed test here in downtown Phoenix.

Just wondering what radio you guys are running in NY? I'm still on LJ2 for now. Just wondering if it's worth it to try upgrading.
I have an unlocked sgh-i317 with aws mod. I haven't seen lte yet and was wondering if anyone here has the same setup getting lte?
I fixed lte on my Korean made device see

We just got lte in Dallas this month....im using my unlocked att note on tmobile 4.1.2 update rom the asylum kernel overclocked from 200 to 1920
LTE in Dallas works!
Just wanted to log in and say that I just finished the AWS mod and I instantly have LTE in Dallas near the Pleasant Grove area. Will test in North Park Mall, Highland Park, and maybe Downtown. Those are the areas I'm in for work. I am so returning this crappy battery life Galaxy S4!

Yeah I am trying to figure out if I get an ATT gsm version would I get 4g speeds or would I be stuck with edge? I'm debating if I should do A trade or just go buy a nexus from google play.
You will probably get 3-5 mb/s in non congested area or non peak time. Some areas peak higher. But I wouldn't expect higher than 3 mb/s anytime. And in my area that is stretching it from 8a to 3p.
teach a man to fish, you feed him for life. teach a man to fastboot, and you create competency. and less threads on xda.
I currently have an unlocked GSM version on ATT and I have seen some downloads as high as 8-9mbps down. I average around 3-5.

An ATT specific version does not exist. The GSM Nexus sold in the google play store supports HSPA+ with both ATT and T-Mobile networks.

Oh ok, the guy in the thread said it was an AT&T variant thats why I asked, usually ATT phones only get edge or whatever.
Yeah most phones are that way. The galaxy nexus had a penta-band radio so it supports both.

Huh? not sure what you mean by that... If you have an "AT&T" branded phone and put it on T-Mobile it'll get EDGE only. And vice-versa. There are plenty of unlocked phones that will get HSPA+ on AT&T though, they just have to support the right frequencies (most do).
The GNex supports EDGE/UMTS/HSPA+ on AT&T. You'll get full speeds that any other HSPA+ device will get on their network. You will not get LTE.
You'll also get full HSPA+ support on T-mobile.
it all depends where you live..
Yes you will get 4G ATT speeds on your galaxy nexus... But you wont get LTE Speeds since it don't have a LTE Radio
i can get 5-8Mbps down on a good day..
but i avg about 2.5-4mbps
So is the T-Mobile Note II better than the AT&T one? I know it has a better 3G radio with quad band 3G that does 42mbps rather than the AT&T one that only does 21mbps and is only tri-band. How feasible do you guys think it would be to buy a launch day Note II on contract, immediately sell it on eBay and buy a T-Mobile Note II for the same price?
Plausible if you expect to get $650+tax for the AT&T note.
Is T-Mobile's coverage that bad in your area? If T-Mobile has good coverage in your area then why not just go for T-Mobile? It would make sense to go for Verizon LTE services for the large coverage and high speeds even with the Verizon premium price. But for me it makes no sense in going to AT&T if you have good coverage with T-Mobile. Both the price and speed differences between T-Mobile vs AT&T itself would turn me to T-Mobile and away from AT&T. The only thing that AT&T beats T-mobile is having a larger coverage area. But otherwise there is no reason to go for AT&T.
I just think you are trying to go the long way around. Which is not making sense.

I'm on contract with AT&T for another year so I'd have pay cancellation fees and what not.
And the T-Mobile service isn't very good in my area at all.. atleast it wasn't a year and a half ago.
Not to hog the thread, but, would a T-mobile Note 2 (once unlocked obviously), work on atleast HSPA speeds on AT&T - im not really too bothered about LTE, though obviously don't want the tmobile phone restricted to EDGE on at&t like iphones 4s are on tmobile _ this situation is the reverse of that scenario.
?
I have an option to buy a T-Mobile one for relatively cheap off a colleague, but want to use it on AT&T as thats the contract I have and T-mob don't have great reception in my house!!.
I know the 4G LTE in the T-Mobile Note II is currently disabled but... once enabled would it work on AT&Ts 4G LTE?

If you don't care about LTE, then get the T-Mobile one as that has 42mbps HSPA as opposed to 21mbps of all other Note II versions and it's also pentaband too so it'll work pretty much anywhere around the world

I'm considering the Note2 on all carriers even the international model if Multi-View doesn't come soon but last weekend tested the Note2 in a T-Mobile store & was impressed by the SpeedTest of 20 ( +/- 2) Mbps down & ~ 2 Mbps up (store is in a well covered area) & Friday night I was with someone where I'd more frequently use the Note2 & tested the network down on her original Galaxy S still pulling down ~10 Mbps down (+/- 5 with avg ~ 8 Mbps down-streaming quality video was great which I can't currently do with my Sprint EVO except off their network here on Wi-Fi) & still ~ 2 Mbps up.
So far I like T-Mobile speeds & plans (reasonably priced unlimited option should I need it though I usually but not always have access to fast Wi-Fi) yet I'm concerned they don't have the same coverage as AT&T (I'll also speedtest AT&T locally this week) so was considering getting the Note2 on AT&T & if not satisfied ($300 + $325 ETF) go get service on T-Mobile with option to go back to AT&T should I move. What limitations besides the 21 Mbps HSPA+ would I have if I get the AT&T model which would also offer me LTE ~ 20 miles away?

Here's my experience with T-Mo on a car trip from the NW to Midwest. The data was non-existent except on cities & towns, I'd say over 10,000. Where a data signal was available it was typically very good. I didn't speed test my note 2, but likely =/- 10Mbps. In the NW (Seattle area) I find some rural areas with poor data signal. My daughters house is on the edge of a town with pop of about 5,000. I have to go outside to get a descent data signal while she gets good signal inside with AT&T.
Personally I'm very happy with my T-MO service. I've been with then for 10 years, but only about 2 that I've been concerned with data, whereas previously I used primarily wifi and now using predominately data.
Hope with gives you at least one useful perspective.

I will test to confirm but I think T-Mobile service will be faster on HSPA+ (LTE is 20 miles away & don't expect to get it here soon except for Verizon) & less expensive but I'm starting to suspect the potential for range anxiety (that people with electric cars often feel) when traveling out of metro areas hence consideration of AT&T model (which offers superior coverage as well as LTE in some markets now) to use on T-Mobile if possible?

I'm going to look into this further (the T-Mobile pamphlet they gave me last weekend still listed "America's Largest 4G Network) but I'm going to try to check it out again in a T-Mobile store now:
http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/t-mobile-drops-americas-largest-4g-network-claim/2012-07-18

"T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42 is the 4G dark horse. It's really fast, covers a lot of the country, and is inexpensive. We found it to be faster than Verizon LTE for downloads in 11 cities (T-Mobile didn't win, though, because Verizon had much faster upload speeds.) Outside cities, where T-Mobile has coverage, it blew away other 3G networks. But that's the key: T-Mobile's truly rural coverage is slimmer than AT&T's or Verizon's."

I had to do the same and phone is rocking
The choice is really easy for me, as my country doesn't have 4G. So the 7105 would be a waste.
I got my N7100 on launch day and I love it.
If I had the choice to get the LTE version. I would have. Since LTE cell service wasn't available on launch day, it doesn't mean the service won't be there in the coming months or next year.
It would make sense to have a future proof phone, and also for resale value when LTE service becomes more mainstream in the UK.
Beamed from Jupiter on my Galaxy Note II
The 3G speeds would be the same. The LTE version would only be faster it it were actually connected to and using 4G. If you were to put a N7100 & an N7105 side-by-side, both only using 3G,the speeds should be identical.
As for battery life, it will get you through a day and a half easily on moderate to heavy usage (couple of hours of browsing, phone calls, IM, music, etc)

So I've read thru many threads on here and found people that seemed to have flashed their tmobile ROM onto their AT&T device in order to get proper 3G+ speeds.
1) Does this actually work?
2) Is it better to flash the other way (if possible, AT&T rom onto Tmobile) in order to get maximum service from both phones? What is the best/better phone to purchase for future LTE future proofing?

I am waiting for an AT&T Stock Rooted WITH MODEM included in the same flash zip before I begin testing myself... I already ordered from ebay a dual sim card adapter for the Note 2, and the Note 2 is already unlocked... so... any news on this would be great...

Sounds like you might be in the same boat as me. Anxious to get a Note II but not sure which network to commit to with it. Your comment about needing to get a TMo ROM to get "proper 3G+ speeds" is disconcerting. It also pushes me a bit towards TMo since it's got the LTE radio promised for future update.
What exactly is wrong with the stock device's 3G+ speeds on AT&T?
Where I live and work (Los Angeles area - San Fernando & Santa Clarita valleys), LTE's not activated, and no firm date when it will come our way. AT&T's HSPA data speeds here aren't anything to write home about, but neither are TMo's when I tested one of their devices in the local shop. My AT&T phone is lucky to get 4Mb/s down, 0.2Mb/s up, and generally only about 2-3Mb/s down. The TMo Galaxy SIII I tested got 4MB/s down. Hard numbers to swallow when I've got an SIII on VZW LTE pulling down 20Mb/s in the same area.

I need clarification on this. Just because the ROM flashed worked, doesn't necessarily mean the proper AWS radio's were activated to attain 4G speeds that are required on T-mobile (this is nothing to do with LTE).
Are you saying that by flashing the tmobile ROM onto your at&t note 2, you are able to attain all connections (not just Edge, but HSPA+ 4G) with your AT&T device to tmobile using AWS? I know Tmobile has begun refarming out to 4G on a different band that is compatible with more handsets, so you might just be in an area where they have already done so, which mistakes you into believing that you are actually connecting via the old school AWS Tmobile bands, when you aren't.
I really need to decide which phone I want to take the risk on - The tmobile LTE is locked apparently, doesn't seem to show as many capable bands as the AT&T version, and also, I'm not sure what to bank on in terms of there being a software vs hardware lock (Would be nice if the tmobile can be unlocked via software to fully operate on all LTE modes that the AT&T supports).
I'm actually in Canada, and would probably end up needing to purchase the Wind version in order to get what I'm looking for (since Wind operates on the same AWS frequencies as tmobile). But losing out on Bell/Rogers/Telus LTE in the process is just something I don't want to do either.
Going to have to see what can be unlocked via software on all these different phones................
I would also appreciate a response from someone if this is possible... using T-Mobile ROM and modem to work on At&t (with aws frequencies).... just like the S2 I717 mod which after flashing was working with aws frequencies....

Yes... it should... as soon as I get my dual sim card adapter for the Note 2... I will post a million results/combinations here on T-Mobile and AT&T forums... I just don't want to open the back cover 30 times a day and swap sims a bunch of times... with the adapter I just insert the 2 sim cards and done... testing all the way from that point on...

I have the SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 from AT&T, unlocked via unlock code from AT&T. No root, stock AT&T android 4.1.1. I got the t-mobile microSIM card with an unlimited talk and 2GB unlimited data plan, but I can not get tmobile 3G/4G working reliably. I get HSDPA/HSPAP/UMTS/EDGE randomly. 80% EDGE, 20% high speed between 4-8mbps down, 0.7-1.9mbps up. I am in Los Angeles, CA.
I know my SGH-I317 does not have the 1700MHz antenna needed for t-mobile 3G/4G data, but somehow I get 3G/4G 20% of the time. I have not adjusted any special settings on my phone, other than to reset the APN to default epc .tmobile .com. My guess I am getting 3G/4G via the 2100MHz antenna for download, but without the 1700MHz for fast upload, I get 0.7-1.9mbps only. But most of the time I am stuck at EDGE.
So has anyone gotten the AT&T Note II to reliably work on t-mobile 3G/4G? is there a special setting I need to enter on my phone? does flashing the t-mobile ROM on the AT&T phone solve any of the 3G/4G issue? or will I lose the unlock on my phone when I root or when I flash t-mobile ROM on my AT&T Note 2?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hey I got a unlocked & Rooted At&t Note 2 on T-mobile running CleanRom with perfect 4g. Before I rooted my phone I changed my phones modem to T-mobiles because I only had edge. After that I have flashed several different At&t Roms and still have 4g. On speed test I get about 7-9mbs download and 2-3 mbs on upload not the best but way better than edge

Yea your right...hey i know this has nothing to do with this thread but i want to ask you something. You have the exact set up that i am currently using.I also have an unlocked At&t Note 2 SGH-i317 on T-mobile running CleanRom SE1.5. I absoulutely love it. I like the stock look with better performance. Are you using another Kernel? And im also thinking about flashing a new Rom what would you recommend? Im kinda looking for something Similar to Clean but better battery life. Any Suggestions???

I am actually using the CleanROM 4.5 (haven't flashed 4.6.1 as I do not see much new on that ROM). I am actually using it on the stock kernel because I am not a huge flasher like many of the members here. Since Note 2 is my daily driver, I don't want to keep updating it and customize it after each ROM flashing. I like the CleanROM 4.5 since it was the way I got it and I just updated to the new version. The battery life is pretty good as I can last a day or more with moderate use.

Im with Videotron and they even not have a setup a working LTE towers in Quebec, we're far to see this happening. But i've read somewhere that their Radio Towers were fully compatible to an upgrade to LTE. But still, they've pushed 4.1 android only last december... They are slow on updates. Btw HSPA + is anought for anybody, I can reach 10 -12 Mbts ( faster than my computer internet speed) and I live far from Montreal.
Considering that the T999 for T-Mobile doesn't support LTE, I would imagine that the Canadian version doesn't have the hardware either, carrier roll out aside.
Vidéotron have always use older technology, maybe LTE will come for us in 5-10 years or before if they receive another grant from Québec gouvernement.
Also don't forget Vidéotron is just a Rogers reseller so they probably don't have the last word on that.

Aside from a few leftover accounts from that era, VTL has stopped being a Rogers reseller a long time ago...
They have their own network for the big city but for the aera less important are still covered by the rogers network but with no extra fee
Their own network now covers a large part of Quebec's population. They should be free of Rogers completely soon enough.
As for LTE, that's their big weak point, as they never talked about the possibility of implementing it...
I was thinking as soon as we go out of Quebec province that we switch automatically to the rogers network. I think my account still on rogers because when I send email to mynumber @ pcs.rogers.com I still receive back the rogers welcome message on my phone (even if this function have never work).

Within the province of Quebec Videotron is pretty self reliant they have their own network that covers most of the populated areas. I say most because they are still expanding their network and optimizing trouble spots. When you are within the province of Quebec and have no Videotron coverage is available the phone will look for a Rogers network to connect to, and this is also the case for the rest of Canada.
Also keep in mind that Videotron first rolled out their network in September 2010 and only covered Montreal and Quebec at launch
They currently use a AWS 1700/2100 HSDPA/HSUPA which can support a maximum theoretical speed of 42 MBPS.
Obviously they must be working on LTE as all the other players have moved forward with it. The advantage that they have is that they are still a relatively small player and their network was designed for a higher total amount of subscribers than is using the network.
There you go Videotron will get LTE

That mean galaxy S3, S4 going to have upgrade!?!? software?
S4, im not sure. The S3 can only yse LTE if its got the correct hw.
The orig T999 cannot, so a new version, the T999L was just released. No idea what to expect for the T999V, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Don't think so not even S4 the link I posted just says Rogers and Videotron signed an agreement to build an LTE in Quebec and Ottawa I know the Roger's tower's are already there but the financial term agreement might "take time" anyways I'm just saying my opinion only
Is Videotron part of telecom? Seems to me that a lot of tmobile devices have the same hardware as Videotron. Also they seem to run the same spectrun as tmobile here. Just wondering. If we tmobile got lte in a few areas maybe when they fully get it to work here videotron will jump on it. Just a thought though

@gypsy214, not a bad assumption to make, but I knew Vidéotron belonged to Québécor.
They only happen to both be using AWS spectrum, as are Wind and Mobilicity. (That spectrum was auctioned off much later in Canada than it was in the US.) You piqued my curiosity into getting actual numbers, here's what I found:
Vidéotron is a subsidiary of Québécor Média, majority of which is owned by the Québecor corporation (75.4%) and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (24.6%)
